Hands down this is the best candy ever. Sadly, I don't even know if it's seasonal anymore. No sign of them this Easter season, and I looked everywhere. Can't for the life of me understand why this candy isn't everywhere all the time.

And they are either called Bumpy Jellybeans or Giant Chewy Nerds...same thing but different packaging.

If he is so astute such that he has the ability to recognize the lack of attention on the part of his players, do something about it! This is the equivalent of a coach saying after losing by 3 when your team missed 15 free throws, "what can I say...kids these days suck at free throws." That coach wouldn't last long because there is a way to fix that as a COACH!

In his effort to conceal the opening day depth chart, Jim Harbaugh concocted an elaborate scheme that fooled the world into believing Jabrill Peppers had been drafted to the Cleveland Browns. In fact, in the greatest of offensive surprises, it is Jabrill who takes the first snap of the season at the wildcat position. Take that Gators!

49 weeks 3 days ago I can see the biggest issue

I can see the biggest issue being the recruit who has been "committed" to a school for several months or more who decides to forego the early signing period. How will staffs handle these situations? Are they automatically moved to "soft commit" status? I think the early signing period is an excellent development, but I do wonder how coaching staffs (and fanbases) will treat the seemingly locked-in commits who do not sign early.

OSU: 5.1

Both are projected to win The Game, just a little bit, but us by a little bit more.

I got mine awhie ago, but it appears there are still a bunch available, and the prices are all face value. Pauley is pretty small, so there aren't really any horrible seats. I don't know about any blocks of tickets resserved for UM folk. It's more fun to be in enemy territory anyway.

3 years 9 weeks ago Brady Hoke = Tom Crean?

While he did inherit a program in the midst of scandal turmoil, his job isn't without its advantages.

1) He coaches one of the most storied basketball football programs in the country.

2) His school is the flagship university in a state with plenty of high-level basketball football talent and is conveniently located near another large metropolitan area (Chicago) with even more talent.

3) He has had plenty of recruiting success, reeling in plenty of highly ranked and talented players.

4) His school has one of the most racuous home courts the largest stadium in the country providing optimal home court field advantage.

Maybe it's time to move on.

3 years 10 weeks ago UM and UCLA grad here

I have my undergrad degree from UM and grad degree from UCLA, so here's the deal. UCLA has weather and their student body some other pleasureable aesthetic advantages over UM. But, I've always wondered how they could recruit when they have to put their recruits in a car/bus and drive an hour+ in traffic to show them their stadium. The Rose Bowl is nowhere near campus, and the students don't have a clue about football. To me, selling UM's history and passion for the game and gameday experience is the biggest advantage. Sitting in the stands during a UCLA game and listening to fans (if they are even paying attention to the game) is a weird experience. They truly don't know anything about the game, nor do they really care.

3 years 10 weeks ago It's really more than just a

It's really more than just a month. Meyer was effectively unemployed prior to the OSU job other than random color commentary gigs for espn. He could scout recruits and stay on top of things before being hired, so he likely had targets in mind the day he stepped in the door. Harbaugh was employed, and presumably focused on that job, until the day he was hired. I think that's likely a big difference too. Plus, Meyer was only one year removed from college coaching. Lots of elements that would swing the recruiting pendulum in his direction.

Unless he resigns on the air (wishful thinking), this is just going to be yet another string of infuriating non-responses that will only aggravate the fanbase further. I can't even imagine a satisfying soundbite from him at this point. Even if he issued a complete mea culpa and acknowledged every single blunder he's ever made, it would be far too late at this point. I see no reason for him to even give these interviews.

3 years 44 weeks ago This ^^^^

I have these thoughts all the time when the Brandon bashing is going on. People don't like him because of what he has done the last few years. I'll tell you what else has happened the last few years...our football team hasn't been very good. He's trying to keep the ship afloat while there is a sub-par product on the field. (Full disclosure, I do agree that tix are too expensive this year.) But, we all love the renovations to Crisler and sing praises about the improvements to the bball facilities...winning helps paint things in a prettier light (similar upgrades happened to football facilities too). I promise, DB will look much more appealing when the team is better and students don't give a damn about the cost of tickets because they will pay whatever it costs to see a good team.

3 years 44 weeks ago Two points:

1) Jamal Crawford is immensely removed from John Beilein.

2) The important thng about Beilein is that he not only puts people into the association, but he puts unknown/low-rated recruits in. How many people predicted, when they were recruited, that THJ, Burke, Stauskas and Levert would even be sniffed by the NBA? That's what makes JB great.

You nailed it on the head. I couldn't imagine not going to every second of every game, as I did when I was a student way back when. But, that doesn't mean I was right and everyone else was wrong. Regardless of the reasoning/rationalization, people have a right to choose not to go to games. If I had to guess, a good chunk of the alleged "boycotters" are people who don't really enjoy the games in the first place and are just using the current fodder as an excuse not to renew/purchase. But, in the end, it's each person's choice to make.

Yep, KG and Nowitzki. That's pretty much it. Obviously a 15 year old kid who is 7 feet tall needs to bulk up, but this is quite a frame and skillset to build upon. The only hesitation with recruiting a kid like this is the investment it would require for one year on your team. Not so sure it's worth it.

4 years 15 weeks ago As scary as this is (and it

As scary as this is (and it is!), this is the best argument to divert blame from the coaches. I am no apologist and feel like I'm pretty much on the same page as everyone else with respect to the staff's job status, but Hoke & Co. have zero control over the lack of experience on this depth chart. Seniors next year would have been recruited long before their tenure began. All that being said, we have a line filled with 4-5 star talent that, I would think, should be coachable into a serviceable (at least) line.

4 years 15 weeks ago Chris Fox

I am driving from LA, and I got my tix on stubhub, so I don't know if it would count against the UM allotment. Buying tix through mgoblue.com doesn't let you see where the seats are...just the price level. So, for an extra $15, I got tix on stubhub and picked out my seats. Not saying it's a big game, but there are little things the school could do (like let you pick your seats!!!) to increase that ticket count.

It's clear this is not a good team. Lower expectations...expect the worst and don't stress when it happens. When we do well, it's gravy. Just lower expectations, get really excited when something good happens (which is admittedly rare these days) and hope for better future seasons.

Trey's loss will be made up for by two things: Walton will be very good and the rest of the team is a year older. We were in the national championship with 5 key freshman, all of whom now have significant experience at the highest level. The experience of Stauskas, McGary (come back!!!), GRIii and Levert will all help fill the whole Trey left.

4 years 46 weeks ago Not much difference

The two options you discuss aren't really that different...maybe a few minutes. Really, how much substantial throw-away time is there in a full season? Maybe 1-3 quarters. Definitely NOT worth burning a redshirt to get him a few snaps with all the 2's/3's. If he is the listed #2 behind DG, and his redshirt will get burned  no matter what, then maybe it's worth it, but I'd think Cleary could hold down the fort in those blowout situations. Redshirt and hope for the best.

Both of their families are clearly very well off (thank you daddies), and college has to be more fun than the NBA if you take the money out of the equation. These guys should stick around, have fun, get a degree and develop into lottery picks. The threat of a career-ending injury just isn't the same motivation as it is in football.

While dominating a game definitely gives insight into a team's strength, I don't think domination is any more valuable than having the skills, coaching, etc. to come back from a deficit to win a game that most teams would lose (see UM-Iowa, 1997). Clearly these are two opposite approaches to winning, but in the end, it's the W/L record that counts most.

Great writeup and good backstory. Clearly you've done a lot more research on KSU than I, but I can't help but think we warrant a prediction with a larger margin of victory. Against Pitt, our 3-point shooting was abysmal. Even if that rebounds just a little bit, which it should, I truly see our team as dominant this year. If it turns out we shoot 15-20% from three against good competition, then I can agree with you, but based on our previous games (~50%!), this will not happen. In the meantime, I'll reserve the two-point margins of victory predictions for our far superior B1G competition. I feel like we should be steamrolling all of our competition (NCST included) until conference play. Our #4 ranking suggests I am not alone.

5 years 22 weeks ago Perspective

I love Denard as much as any Michigan fan. He is no doubt near or at the top of the list of the most electrifying players in the history of our program. That being said, I think we are all getting a little carried away here. We've had Desmond. We've had Woodson. We've had Carter. We've had Hart and Henne and Long. Believe it or not, they all played a last game at Michigan Stadium too. They were perhaps honored and applauded more vigorously than some of their lesser known classmates, but they were not idolized. I can't help but think Denard has taken on this godlike status because he has been so much fun and such a success who kept our program afloat through some tough times and ultimately thrive. I'll miss you Denard, but I can't help but look forward to the future Wolverine(s) who will join you near the top of that list.

The state of NCAA basketball is such that there is incentive to root against your best players. I, and I presume most UM fans, are quietly glad THJ had an off year so we can get him back again. And, we now all know that if Trey does return, he is as good as gone next year if he repeats his 2011-2012 performance. So, we need to either rely on JB bringing in classes every year like he has lined up for the next two, or we need more guys who don't project well to the NBA but are college stars. In a 12 game season, one W is going to affect a teams winning percentage in a significant way. So, by sucking so bad, both of them are effectively boosting their opponents' winning percentage. Without giving it much thought, it seems that the games opponents play against the team you are measuring should be removed from the analysis. This may not be the best way, but by definition, I would expect all really bad teams to boost opponents' SOS by about 8% (1/12).

You are not the only one. I agree that it is a great way to get some national exposure a little closer to the tourney. Of course, many of our conference games are televised nationally, but no doubt the audience is more diverse by going out of conference.

I got a mint condition 1961 UM-Ohio game program. It is a very cool piece of memorabilia, but unfortunately the good guys lost 50-20 that day.

There is no better rival than one who competes at a high level and is so clearly the bad guy. I look forward to many years of big Ws for the good guys.

I don't remember who was calling that game, but as the team was going in for halftime, he said, "To call Michigan's offense inept would be an insult to inept offenses everywhere." Amazing we ended up pulling that one out.

6 years 18 weeks ago UM and UCLA grad's take

Having gone to both schools (and being born and raised in LA), I have always said that the biggest issue with UCLA is the fact that their stadium is 20 miles away from campus. This has a profound ripple effect in that it takes loads of effort for students to get to games and greatly diminishes the gameday experience compared to a school like UM. The result is an apathetic fan base and virtually zero buzz about the program among the students or otherwise. I have often wondered about recruits visiting and going to campus and then sitting in traffic for an hour plus just to see the stadium--that can't help to lure elite talent. On top of everything else, most of their games are on local Fox Sports channels, usually not even broadcast in HD. Football simply isn't a priority, and it should be. They missed their opportunity to strike while USC should have been down, but they let USC dominate, even with one hand tied behind their back. Very sad.
