I'm at the point where I'm…

I'm at the point where I'm actually ok with things getting worse so they can get better.

Yep….   Doink.

Yep….   Doink.

Being admitted to the law school

Being admitted to the UM Law School was one of the happiest days of my life.  I was much more excited than when I received any of my college acceptances.

I'm a little surprised -- but

I'm a little surprised -- but pleasantly surprised at how little we've dropped.  I honestly thought we would be in the 7-9 range.  Part of it is that I find it hard to believe how well Colorado and PSU are regarded.  Especially since we demolished PSU.

I also don't know that our offense really passes the eye test.  Our offensive line still needs a lot of work, and our running backs, while good, aren't really elite.  Mike Hart was probably the last great Michigan back, and that was a long time ago.

ESPN has different AP

ESPN has different AP rankings for some reason.  In their version of the AP rankings, we're the first unranked team.

I have to admit I'm a little worried about getting that "average play".  Really hope Speight's shoulder is healing on overdrive!

I'm actually happy to have a limited edition typo-laden edition of Endzone!

I don't remember MGoFans

I don't remember MGoFans being so critical of commits in past years.  We used to be pretty psyched for even fairly pedestrian-seeming 3*.  Given that, the relative lack of enthusiasm here is pretty surprising.

Also, why do we need another Also, why do we need another WR? Unless this is to help solidify Gary....
Rich Rod era

I lived the Rich Rod era, and only the Rich Rod era, since I went to the law school from '08-'11.  The year after we graduated, the team goes to the Sugar Bowl -- the most inept BCS bowl game I think I've ever seen.

The good thing is that I know I'm not a fair weather fan, because my love for the team developed in the middle of a typhoon.

Disappointed

I have to say I was kind of disappointed.  I used think that even though he couldn't win at the end, you couldn't question that he was trying and that he loved the school.  So obviously he's a person and it's hard to love a school that canned you ... but it was still disappointing that he seems to think that the school gave him some kind of a raw deal, and he doesn't seem to really be on board with Jim being a "home run hire".  I can understand that it's hard to love your successor when you've been booted out.  But.... still kind of disappointing.

West End Grill

It's not so overbearing as Chop House, but the food is excellent.  When my firm goes to Ann Arbor for recruiting, we like to rent the place out.

Mathematically, that's going

Mathematically, that's going to require one of two things:  (1)  somebody is going to have to leave or (2) Hatch is going to have to go on a medical scholarship.

At this point it's hard to see who would be up for leaving.  We have a huge logjamb at the wing position, but all of those guys (except Irvin) were made by Beilein.  In my mind, the only way we fit another player is by putting Hatch on a medical -- which is obviously controversial.

I think this article

I think this article reiterates how blessed we are to have Ross as a supporter of the program and the University.  He gives generously and doesn't (appear to) threaten to take his ball and go home if things don't go his way.

I guess this was written

I guess this was written before the spring game.

I think we can be much better, but I think it's going to take a while for Harbaugh to work his magic.

Then again, Hoke (or Mattison) turned over our defense overnight...maybe Harbaugh can do the same for our offense?

I predict some people on this

I predict some people on this board will flip out at how we look on offense.

VCU is one of the few schools

VCU is one of the few schools I really enjoy watching outside of Michigan.  I think Smart is a great coach, and it will certainly be interesting to see how he does at Texas.

If Belein were to retire, it would be hard to look at anyone as a home run coach given that we probably aren't getting anyone like Calipari or Petino the Sr.  Given that, I think Smart would be a home run hire.  I would also be happy to see Jordan be promoted as the head coach.

Let's face it -- it's going to be really hard (or impossible) to say we're making a step up in coaching once Belein is gone.  Honestly though, it may be possible to get a better recruiter that would be able to keep the team at least at the level that it is right now.

Maize looks a lot stronger to me, especially on defense with Mone and Peppers standing out.

I don't really understand why

I don't really understand why a person who is almost definitely a one and done or two and done would actually care about academics.  They're likely not going to graduate from the university unless they take take an inordinate number of classes between pro seasons or come back full time.  Of course that's aside from the whole learning stuff while you're there thing....

If Jaylen does come to Michigan, I would think it's because Belein and co. can probably teach him a lot of of the things that he's not already super awesome at.

They may be bigger than us,

They may be bigger than us, but I think we really do look faster than them.

I don't remember Funchess

I don't remember Funchess being that jacked.  Woah.

There are a lot of parents

There are a lot of parents that go, as well as grad students who can be in their 30's.  I wouldn't worry about it.  In general I think it's more fun to go with people you know, no matter what section you're going to be in.

Are these hand timed?

Are these hand timed?

I have to admit that I'm a

I have to admit that I'm a bit less worried about this than I was before.  With our freshman coming on strong, I don't know that Caris will move the needle THAT much.  I think we're going to be way more dependent on the improvement of our bigs.

The differences in the law

The differences in the law schools is huge.  HUGE.

I think Toronto is a fine

I think Toronto is a fine school.  But to your point, I'm surprised that Toronto is 16 whereas McGill is at 35.  I think back in the day McGill was though of as being a lot more prestigious than Toronto, although Toronto has caught up and perhaps overtaken by a bit in recent times.  However, the 16 vs. 35 differential doesn't really ring true to me.

EDIT:  I think the country to country comparisons are even more subjective than the intra-national comparisons, and even more useless.

I love that the link is to

I love that the link is to "adidass".

It's a fun, but useless list.

It's a fun, but useless list.  All things considered though, I don't think it's really unfair to U of M (and I'm saying this as a law school grad -- one of the highly ranked units at Michigan).  The only schools that make me raise an eyebrow are UCLA and Toronto.

That having said, I would much rather have gone to Michigan for my undergrad than where I went (which is higher on the list) and would definitely encourage my daughter to go to Ann Arbor no matter where else she was accepted.

I don't disagree.  However,

I don't disagree.  However, there's also a difference between having competition and having the number of QBs that we'd be projected to have.

Apart from the "all the QBs

Apart from the "all the QBs must suck" worry, my other concern is how this affects our future recruiting for high level QBs.  No matter how awesome a QB coach you think Harbaugh is, only the supremely confident wouldn't worry about depth, and attention from the coaches.

More like, just wait until

More like, just wait until 'The Harbaugh' takes effect and we start taking down MSU and OSU on the regular.

Ouch.  That's gotta be rough

Ouch.  That's gotta be rough when your dad's the coach.  Anyway at the end of the day he's getting a great education, learning the game from one of the best, and now he's playing like a boss!  All good things.

Agreed.  There's a reason why

Agreed.  There's a reason why people have incredibly short careeers in the NFL.  At a certain point you have to think about your long term QOL.  There are plenty of things Jake Long can do now that don't involve wrecking his body any further.

I think it's going to really

I think it's going to really depend on our bigs.  It's unfortunate how much they get pushed around in the paint.

Supposedly we're in good shape for him.
