Purdue upsets Blue

I'm a big M fan but I think we get upset tomorrow. I think it will be similar to last years Iowa game (which ironically I also predicted we'd lose and got flamed for it).. we'll go down early and make a late comback that will be too little too late... I expect average play for Michigan across the board. 27-24 Purdue

Really?

Your information is not helpful.

I'm more surprised to see

I'm more surprised to see four Big10 teams in the Sweet 16. The most teams representing one conference in the Sweet 16 is the Big East who had 5 teams in one year. They also hold the record for the most teams in the tournament with 11 which they did just last year. Its impressive but they also have 16 teams in the conference.

I remember reading about

I remember reading about Moana about 2 months ago. From Utah. His dad went to BYU (which has offered him) and also played in the NFL. I watched some of his film. He WAS one of those under-the-radar guys that has a very good amount of potential. IIRC, he didn't have nearly as many offers as he does now. I think he only had a half dozen legit offers a few months ago but now they seem to be piling up (Oregon, FSU, Nebraska, Cal, Utah). Its so early to say, but I think this guy is a stud. I'd love to land him. He's got a motor, has a great frame to add some weight, and is a ball player. However.... He's moving to Arizona to live with AZ Cardinals' Deuce Lutui. I'm not sure if this means anything for Arizona or Arizona State (they both have offered him and he plans to visit ASU in January). Moana would be huge for us to land, as I think he'll be a future all-conference player but that conference very well may be the Pac-12.

Did you just call your wife a

Did you just call your wife a has-been who hasn't looked hot since 97?

I have no problem with them

I have no problem with them being ranked. What would be unacceptable is if Houston was NOT ranked. Not only are they undefeated but they've been womping teams. They've won their past 5 games by a combined 230some points or something like that. They've also bludgeoned two teams which beat Big 10 teams (North Texas and Rice). I think they look better than Hawaii did in 07 when they went undefeated until getting it handed to them by Georgia in the bowl game. If Houston does make it to a BCS game, they'll almost certainly lose but I don't think it will be by 31 points like Hawaii. VATech had a tough time putting E Carolina and Marshall away.

Yea but we can't just go away

Yea but we can't just go away from the throw or else defenses will load up 7 or 8 in the box ala MSU. Iowa, who runs cover 2 99% of the time showed us a decent amount of 1deep bringing an extra guy down. We HAVE to be able to throw in order to utilize Denard's legs.

You kind of argued

You kind of argued against your own thesis. You pretty much said RR looked stupid for running his offense in 2008 because he didn't have the players. And now it seems like you are wanting Borges to do the same. Borges is in a similar, but opposite, situation as RR was except Borges seems to have a much deeper and more diverse playbook. Borges has done a good job of installing some elements of Prostyle but about as much as you want him to with the personnel he possesses. Generally speaking, Borges is doing what is going to get the most production/wins for the team, and that is utilizing the strengths we have (Denard). I have no problem with what Borges has installed. I think the majority of the fan base would agree. I mean, how many of us were crying "PLEASE NO TAKE AWAY DENARD!!!"

It looks like I disagree with

It looks like I disagree with most of you on here. Legally, I don't think Penn State had any right to let Joe Pa go.

"So let me get this straight... I didn't see any of this happen 12 years ago, but when it did happen... 12 years ago... I told my boss about it... 12 years ago... and a third of you on the committee knew about it as well... so I didn't break any laws, or even lie about anything. But I'm still getting let go?"

I don't think JoePa is a hero anymore, as I once though. But I don't think its justifiable that he got let go. Its clear that the Board understands that the University needs to sever all ties with the PSU that was associated with this disgusting shit, but this wasn't justifiable. And it looks like Scott Paterno's lawyer agrees wtih me. But I'd say he's a little biased as well. Lol

Paterno didn't witness it. As

Paterno didn't witness it. As far as Paterno was concerned, it could have all been hearsay.

Mcqueary, while very gutless,

Mcqueary, while very gutless, was put in a very shitty situation... He was a twenty some year old man chasing his dream as a coach and also his livlihood. His future as a coach would be in jeopardy if he made a big deal of the situation. Obviously, he was being a big pussy in doing nothing. But lets not get all high and mighty and pretend like half the guys on here wouldn't have done the same thing. So you want to beat the shit out of a guy for being a coward? Why not beat the shit ouf of the pervert?

It took Lewan two years to gain 34 lbs and he had the biggest gain of those listed. And Taylor is 6'7" Johnson maxes out at 6'0". Other notable weight gainers, Roh and Heininger, are 6'5" and 6'6" respectively. I don't know where the fuck you guys think Johnson is gonna put 30-40 pounds but you're outta your fuckin minds. Isaiah Bell has gained like 40 pounds since he's been here, but on a larger frame than Johnson. And Bell has some bad weight on him, but I would obviously never say that to his face. So yea, if you want a fatter, slower version of Johnson, I guess 40 lbs is a feasable.

I have no problem with this

I have no problem with this being a topic but I doubt PSU will see any attrition because of this.

ive seen drake play a few

I've seen drake play a few times. he isnt 215, probably more like 190. Gaining 40 lbs for a 6'6" lineman is no easy task and adding that much weight to Drake's frame seems very unlikely. i could see him as more of a slot guy but definitely not tight end.

You make a solid point.

You make a solid point. Denard's production the last dozen and half games hasn't been where we want it. But I'm not ready to lose faith. Denard's arm has made it a long way since his freshman year here and I'm sure it will continue to improve. We have to give him some credit... He has shown us some strikes. When he's just sitting in the pocket, he can throw the ball on target just as good (which is average) as the other qbs in the Big 10. My issues with Denard thus far is probably what everyone's issues are: 1) He seems to lock on receivers. He doesn't seem great at checking down/going to his 2nd and 3rd options. On several instances we've seen receivers wide open yet Denard misses this as he's locking on the primary like Jerry Sandusky on a lathered up prepubescent boy. 2) This doesn't even need to be said, but his back-footed throws are a killer.

But I support him 100% and would only trade him for a handful of other qbs. I love what Denard represents off the field. We have to keep a few things in mind. Denard is going through as drastic of a coaching change as one could. While Borges has kept a decent amount of RR's spread in our running attack, most of our passing game has been MANBALL... A lot of playaction, a lot of the 12-15  yard stuff and very little, if any, of the bubble screen & QB PA to hit the seam. Just take a look at his yards per pass attempt between 2010 and 2011. He's completion percentage has taken a 10% hit but his YPA isn't far off from last year. And while wideouts will always have their share of drops, Junior had some uncharacteristic drops early in yesterday's game.

Denard is the same running threat as he's always been, teams are just able to prepare for it whereas in September/October of 2010, Denard was a different breed of athlete to the Big10, and even nationally for that matter. This offense will be magical (yes, i just used magical) when it all comes together. When defenses want to put 7 or 8 in the box, Denard's arm will be competent enough to make the defense pay. And when the defense is forced to play balanced, Denards legs will be there. I think this was kind of the game plan the coaches wanted against MSU.. We're going to pass the ball 30 times and then Denard is going to beat you with his legs. But the wind killed us. The progression this will take time. Once Denard is comfortable reading through his progressions, this offense will be very difficult to stop. I don't think the same could be said for RR's offense. He was doing all the bubbles and giving Denard 20 some carries but we saw how that turned out at the end of last season.

I was more pissed about the playcalling in the MSU game than yesterday. We tried to go deep 3 times in a row against state... something which should never happen with our QBs. Yesterday, we still ran the ball over 30 times as a team. Fitz got 16 carries.. I would have liked to see Denard get a few more, but his passing wasn't terrible enough to go away from it.

Everyone is putting waayyyyyy

Everyone is putting waayyyyyy too much weight on last weeks MN loss. A terrible MN team beat a decent Iowa team in 2010. For whatever reason, MN plays Iowa tough. As does Northwestern (Idk why, but Northwestern has a knack for beating Iowa at Iowa City). Iowa's cover 2 D has a similar mentality as our D... bend but don't break. They are willing to give up some underneath stuff, but they don't seem to give up the big play often. I don't see the deep jumpball working this week which in the past few months has significantly moved the momentum in our favor. IMO, a 14 point win isn't realistic. If we win this game, it won't be by more than a score.

Iowa hasn't lost by more than

Iowa hasn't lost by more than a touchdown at home since 2007... which was incidently the same year in which Iowa last lost to Iowa State. But Michigan seems to always have trouble with big running backs. When was the last time we held even an average B1G team under 100yards rushing (MN, Purdue, NW don't count)? Its been a while. I say Coker goes for at least a 120. Hopefully Denard took his good arm to Iowa City because Iowa's cover 2 has halted our last two comebacks in 2010 and 2009. I'd say the wind will be in Iowa's favor. I expect a close game. The X factor is gonna be Vandenberg. 27-24 Michigan.

They already have the lines

They already have the lines out. We're favorites in the Illinois game. And we're favors this week in Iowa City.
