This is a misrepresentation. Browsing through the comments, I see plenty of folks who do not expect to see a good product on the field and for whom the emotional toll of watching Michigan football grew too high this season. They therefore do not see the expense of going to the bowl game as worth is. I am in that camp. But, this does not mean these folks think the bowl game is meaningless. That's an unfair characterization. A win is always meaningful, to a varying degree depending on the stakes and the opponent. What is meaningful in the comments here is the apparent level of competence to which fans hold Michigan football, the percieved level of competence displayed on the field this year, and the interrelated frustration they felt when watching Michigan football this season.
For these fans, the emotional costs have been too high to justify the expense of going to the bowl game. These fans care - a great deal, it just manifests in a different way. Yet, in a way that should be respected. What you see here is not a fans who claim not to care and then who care once the game starts. That's not what is going on at all. Its much deeper and complex than that.

Why would Bill Martin be smiling about this somewhere? Is this the only case besides Michigan of a search committee being formed to look for a new coach? Or, is this sort of approach more insitutionalized?
Do you know what the process looks like or are you just making ass-umptions? Such as, how do you know the executive committee will not have much input regarding football coaching? Or, would looking further into such matters do too much violence to your overarching goal of straw manning the imbecility of people who are more powerful and knowledgeable than you are so that you can feel smart?

I get what you are saying - the rule is made to account for timekeeper ambiguity, in terms of starting the clock too early or too late. But another problem is that the rule is based on a false binary in that there is a tip-in and there is a shot - nothing in-between. Or, anything beyond a mere tip-in takes more than .3 seconds. I think that's unfortunate.
There's the logic of the rule, which is meant to takeaway human error, and there's the error of the rule when humans get it right. The latter is the case here.

I agree with your overarching piont, but any track and field coach, or basketball coach, and I woudl bet football coach would tell you that you can coach speed, size (save height) and agility. That's what fundamentals and the weight room are all about.

The [SEC, OSU] cash-for-recruits argument is sooo played out. Every time a Michigan fan makes such a statement, our fanbase grows a little dumber. It. Happens. Everywhere.

Good for George for deciding he committed too early and taking more time to look around. It's a great life choice. I hope after gaining perspective, he finds out his first choice was the best one.

The only logical explanation for the relationship between this person's avatar and his actual posts is that it is meant to be ironic. Because his posts are not logical at all.

Winning has a positve influence on recruiting. Not winning has a negative influence on recruiting. Elaborate that relationship as you will, but that's the gist of it. And we get it.

Not quite. A better reading is that one thread created a lot of uncertainty, which naturally sparks attempts to make sense of the changed reality. The other created certainty, which naturally does not spark as much attemtps to make sense - its already made.

I agree with you on this point - I dont think Texas hires Dantonio. But you are shifting from Dantonio's qualities as a recruiter and developer of talent to what Texas would do. Its a different side of the issue.
|5 days 23 hours ago||From what we have been able||
From what we have been able to gather, Dantonio's players love him. Yes, these are kids that already have signed up to play for him, but from what the media report, Dantonio is a player's coach. What this would mean if he gets to fish in a larger talent pool, I dont know.
|6 days 10 min ago||Ok. Umm, care to elaborate||
Ok. Umm, care to elaborate instead of making someone respond asking you to elaborate? Are you saying Dantonio is or is not a good recruiter? From what I have seen, he seems to have a eye for talent. Its that simple. Basing recruiting prowess on how many stars, which are created by for profit external entities, one can accumulate is a fool's game.

Whatever else DB may do right or wrong, the film watching argument against DB is the dumbest argument in the history of dumb arguments.

Your logic is way off here. Its not about how many years have been good and how many have been bad, its about progress, trajectory. Its about building something. And its about beating rivals. As for recruits, its all about dvelopment, whether you get a 2 star or a 5 star. He has been awful at bringing in top talent at MSU because top talent doesnt normally go to MSU. Its not Dantonio's failure. Top talent does go to UT, in droves. Put a cardboard cutout in as a head coach, and they will still get top talent. He has shown he can develp talent. That is the key.

Kiffen a flashy hire? If by flash you mean a drunk 65 year old overweight mother of 8 flashing at Mardi Gras, then perhaps. Hiring Kiffen is an admittance by a D1 program that they can do nothing better than bring in proven failures.

I agree with most of the above, especially the notion that Sam Adams is craft beer, and the underreated qualities of the fillet o fish.
But if you think one player, even of the Woodson caliber, is respnosible for elevating a good team to national title winner, you are crazy. Woodson was a great player on a great defense, which was accompanied by an above-average offense. Put Law or Hall in there for Woodson, and they would have still won the title.

The Big Lebowski is an ok movie. It appeals to the teenager in all of us. The Cohens have done much, much better.
The construction [adjective] [noun] is [repeat adjective] is just awful (e.g., awful meme is awful). In using it, you are telling the world that you have zero creativity. And you are lazy.
I think Hoke will be the next Bo.
I think Michigan fans are no worse than any other passionate fanbase. To think otherwise is just solipsistic.
The NFL is a watered-down version of college football. Who really cares who wins?
The NBA is a freakshow.
M-Wolverine was one of the best posters here.
|1 week 3 days ago||A movie for the mindless||
A movie for the mindless masses. Haven't they done this multiple times before just in different iterations? Let's see - some unknown creature threatens to destroy humanity. Military has little effect, so some hyper-intelligent yet bumbling dude, who is surprisingly handsome given all of that, finds a way to both destroy the creature and save the girl, who paid him little mind before. In the middle we are subject to a mindless 45 minutes of the creature destrying a city or two, and some military blowing shit up with new-fangled weaponry.
Just like they did before.
I will pass. You leave these movies dumber than when you went in, and I just dont have the luxury of getting dumber. I'm already too close to the edge.

A bowl game at this point is about practice and recruiting. Give us a name brand team, one that will put stars in the eyes of recruits. Recruits dont come to Michigan to play the likes of KSU in bowl games. I have no doubt we will beat a team like Georgia. Michigan will come out ready to dominate after the heartbreaker with OSU.

I applaud you Section 1 for pointing out the hypocracy of many Michigan fans on this site. It does at times get unbearable. But I also hope this thread shows you that such efforts are typically futile, for people will go to great lenghts to rationalize cohernece into their incoherent viewpoints rather than attemtp to see things in a different light.
