Yep. Totally tearing up at work. I have a feeling Denard will always be my favorite Michigan Man. Not just because he was such an exciting player and seemed like such a fantastic person, but also because of the spark he gave the program during such a discouraging time.

By the way, I took four semesters of Latin at UM, and I'm pretty sure I remember translating a passage from the Aeneid along the lines of: "If you don't like the way a blog is written/ feel free to stop reading it/ instead of being a condescending troll." That Virgil was a prescient dude.

Coming from a former journalist... it is unfortunate that the media tends to turn tragedy into 24/7 sensationalistic entertainment, but that has been the trend for years. It's one of the major reasons I left the business.
My heart aches for everyone affected today. Such a horrible thing to go through, on a day that should have been about celebration, achievement and joy. Just sickening.
This team has been crazy fun to watch, and everyone here at MGoBlog has made it all the more enjoyable. Even when I was in the throes of anxiety watching the game last night, I was cracking up at hilarious posts in the liveblog and feeling grateful that I have a place to go to indulge my obsessive fandom. I picked up a create-your-own six pack with Blue Moon Valencia Grove Amber, Purple Haze, Shock Top End of the World Midnight Wheat, Leinenkugels Summer Shandy & Berry Weiss, and Florida Avenue Blueberry (local brew). I wasn't planning to consume all of them tonight, but really it depends on how the game goes...
Maybe a little of both? There are *a lot* of Michigan/Midwestern transplants here in Florida -- people of all ages. Also, I think many FSU fans like Michigan right now simply because they love seeing Florida lose :)
I live in Orlando, and when I came into work this morning, I had numerous coworkers who are Florida State fans come up to me and high five/congratulate me on the win yesterday. Haven't been approached by any Gator fans yet, though...

I'm actually a big fan of Cleveland, too. Some cool neighborhoods and great restaurants. But every time I say that to someone, they look at me like I'm crazy.
What really got me was the list of the different media outlets that reported varying dates of death (and apparently made up a city that doesn't exist... Associated Press, I'm looking at you). Embarassing. It's times like this that make me glad I left the journalism business -- all too often now, it's about sensationalized stories rather than actual news.
These highlights made me smile and tear up at the same time. I'm still in denial. I don't know what to say, so I'll just say: Thank you Denard, we love you and we'll miss you.

I see a lot of missed tackles... what a speedy little roadrunner! I'm glad that she appears to be doing something she loves, and is supported by her coach, team and family. Go Sam!
Thank you for the opportunity to contribute. I'm a Michigan alumna now living in Florida, and I've spent a lot of time volunteering with homeless children and low-income families in the Orlando area. I know there is much work to be done... but it's people like you and programs like this one that make a difference and change lives, one step at a time.
I don't even want to think about next year without Denard. I hope he gets well soon -- our chances to watch him play football in a Michigan uniform are dwindling, and I'll take as many chances as I can get.
Last night's game was frustrating and disappointing, yes. But after the past few years I no longer think it's the end of the world when Michigan has a bad game, even one that was this bad. I think 2008 permanently knocked some perspective into me. Time to focus on the Big Ten schedule.
As for Denard, my appreciation for what he's done for this team and this university far outweigh any frustration I feel about his performance last night or during any other game. He had a bad night (it happens). He took responsibility for it. That's all he can do. I, for one, am still glad to have him leading this team. I've had to stop reading other fans' comments in places like the Michigan Football Facebook page because the level of vitriol against Denard is getting out of control and embarassing. If only certain portions of the fan base could show the same maturity and class as our quarterback...

Okay, I'm a posbang thread virgin, but here goes -- I'm flying up to Cleveland this weekend for my sister's graduation. I know it's Ohio, but I'm sort of looking forward to escaping Florida for a few days... I love springtime/early summer in the Midwest (also, I love Cleveland).
Ha, that reminds me of when my sister came to visit me while I was attending U-M (she attended a party school in Florida). While we were walking around campus she said, "Wow this is like a *real* college."

The only thing keeping me going at work today is the fact that I get to see penguins this afternoon. Penguins make everything better.
