There are several proven non elite coaches that I would take right now that if nothing else, get the most out of their players and don't need 5* recruits:

Utah's Kyle Whittingham,

TCU's Gary Patterson,

KSU's Chris Klieman

ISU's Matt Campbell

........please don't roll the dice with a coordinator who has never been a head coach...go with a proven head coach, even if is a lower level like FCS.  At least kick the tires with Chris Petersen, although that is a very long shot.

Whose got it better than us?…

Whose got it better than us?.............eeeeeeeverybody

The sad reality we are stuck…

The sad reality we are stuck with is no NFL team in its right mind wants to hire Harbaugh and Ward cannot/will not fire him this year which means at least one more year. Then, what is worse, keeping Harbaugh with only one year left...bad for recruiting?  Or renewing his contract and having to commit to another 4 years?

Roy G Biv......That has been…

Roy G Biv......That has been grinding me for years that Harbaugh's offense avoids throwing over the middle and down field.  It seems to accomplish three things:  gives the defense less field to cover,  QB is muzzled and more afraid of mistakes, keeps receivers from making big plays especially when our athletes are better.

Anemic, sloppy, impotent,…

Anemic, sloppy, impotent, bad, ugly.....See you next year.  I'm checked out for the last two games, hopefully the last game is canceled....or else OSU will drop 75 to 100 on this defense

Exactly.  Brandon Peters…

Exactly.  Brandon Peters really looked good yesterday, throwing accurately down field.  I expect the same with Dylan McCaffrey too.  Dylan's next two years will make Harbaugh look foolish.  Harbaugh track record with 4* QB's is horrific.  I wish we could go back in time and replace Harbaugh with our alleged near miss on Dan Mullen who always gets the best out of QB's and already has Florida beating good teams.

We'll see...i will bet on…

We'll see...i will bet on Dylan McCaffrey over the Harbaugh staff....that has a bad track record of maximizing offensive skilled positions, especially WR and QB....and Dylan's younger brother has already taken the QB job from Adrian Martiniz in Nebraska....I predict Dylan will find a competent offensive staff like Purdue or similar...and do great things....better than our QB over the next 2 years....assuming Harbaugh is still here.

Yeah, i agree nobody is…

Yeah, i agree nobody is likely to duplicate what Joe Burrow did....Joe Burrow was other worldly last year....i was using hyperbole.....but I would not be surprised if Dylan goes somewhere and surpasses what our QB will do in the next 2 years.

I wouldn't count on it....I…

I've seen every snap Dylan has taken in a game and he has more moxie, fire, intangibles, and accuracy than what I've seen from Milton....Milton so far is slow, plodding, and inaccurate.  That's what got Dylan concussed.....he didn't slide....he wanted to show he's a gamer.  Milton might impress in practice with 70 yard throws, but his game accuracy is very bad.....hopefully that will get better with more experience.  I think if Dylan would have started this year he would have scored a lot more touchdowns, just by throwing a catchable ball with a little air under it.  I have no faith in this coaching staff that just because they though Milton won the job in practice, doesn't mean Dylan isn't the better QB when real bullets are flying.  Some guys are just better under pressure when the game speeds up.  So far there is enough data to think Dylan could have been better....even Cade looked better and he was 3rd string going into the season.  Anyhow, it's too late, Dylan will be gone after December and we will find out next year who is right....I'm not betting on this staff.

Just to rub salt in the…

Just to rub salt in the wound, Dylan McCaffrey will go on to be Joe Burrow 2.0 with 75% completion rate and win the Heisman, while Milton struggles to get 50%.

24/7 composite bumps 2019 class up to #7

Love this class!  Should have another signing of the ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️!

In fredjacksonian terms he…

In fredjacksonian terms he he's got the game and attitude of Jay Cutler, the craftiness of Tom Brady, but more elusive than John Elway.

There was no firm handshake…

There was no firm handshake.  It has already been reported that Mattison was offered a 2 year extension with a raise.  This one is understandable because it was not a lateral move.

The Al Washington move is more troubling because he was a "Brown dude" and this does look like a lateral move.  He was an up and coming recruiter.  You just don't give this guy a firm handshake.  You pull out all stops and over pay him to keep him.

Yeah, he's a bum.  Coached…

Yeah, he's a bum.  Coached at Baltimore Ravens, Michigan for almost 20 years, Florida, Notre Dame, and now Ohio State.  What were they thinking?

LOL.  Alumnus 93, go have another drink, it will make you feel better.

I think it is funny how…

I think it is funny how people act like Mattison isn't a good DC anymore, as if he forgot how to coach defense.  He coached defense for one of the best NFL defenses ever, for John Harbaugh.  Ask John Harbaugh how good of a DC GM is.  He is also a great, not a good recruiter.  Urban Meyer called Mattison the best recruiter he has ever worked with.  Defensive line is where the best teams shine, like Clemson and Bama.  Now OSU has two of the best for the D Line with Mattison and Larry Johnson.

People forget that one of the reasons Mattison took the demotion to be Harbaugh's assistant is he wanted to stick around until his daughter finished school.  She is probably done now, so why not take a top 5 DC job and double his paycheck?  I don't see how he could say no?  I don't see how this isn't a very good move for OSU?

You may be wrong about in…

You may be wrong about in game adjustments.  Mattison might be able to diagnose things quicker than most when the bullets are flying.  That alone could make all the difference in the Game.

Mattison has practiced…

Mattison has practiced against Michigan's offense and been on the sidelines since Harbaugh started.  You don't think that will help OSU in game planning and to make quick in-game adjustments?

This is not a good development for The Game.

Can't blame him one bit.  He…

Can't blame him one bit.  He has the chops to be a DC.  Why be an assistant when a top 5 program wants you as DC?  Our loss.

Perfect hire for OSU.  Knows Harbaugh's offensive tendencies very well.  Probably doubled his paycheck too.

Gentry should have been our…

Gentry should have been our go-to guy in the end zone with his height advantage. He will probably go on to have a great NFL career and then we will be scratching our heads wondering why he wasn't our go-to guy when we had to settle for field goals.  Come to think of it, I don't remember Jake Butt getting targeted much in the end zone.

"Pass to set up the run" is exactly what our offense needs.  It is so much easier to run the ball without 9 in the box running down hill at you.  Pass first offense will have the desired "body blows" effect the current offense is trying to achieve unsuccessfully against premier competition.

From a program building…

From a program building standpoint, there may only be 1 more swing at the plate for Harbaugh.  If we dont beat OSU in 2019, it might impact recruiting irreversibly.  No hope left to sell after that.

Put me down for beating Ohio…

Put me down for beating Ohio State 50% of the time.  That means we will beat them the next 4 years (with Harbaugh).

just dreaming

I would like to see our 2…

I would like to see our 2 minute offense for 60 minutes against a good opponent.

It is hard to diagnose…

It is hard to diagnose anything in the second half of the last two games.  It seems like after the other team got the advantage,  our team was not tough enough to keep up the intensity to prevent a collapse, similar to last year's bowl game collapse.

So I have to go to the first half to try to make sense, and I have to primarily blame the offensive game plan and play calling.  Stalled drives, lack of big plays, generally very conservative play calling; everything seemed to snowball from this.  When we don't convert on the 1st half drives, the other team gains confidence and momentum.  We end up giving the other team more opportunities and more time of possession.  You can't let other good teams smell blood like this, and let the fish become sharks.

I agree, there is nothing…

I agree, there is nothing wrong with a TE and a FB.  I am generally arguing the playmakers are not getting enough touches and not enough attempts downfield.   What is the sense of a 6'8" tight end if you rarely exploit mismatches?  Why are Peoples-Jones, Collins, Black, Bell only getting a few looks each?  Why have a dual threat QB and only run 1 or 2 designed runs?  The offense just doesn't utilize its best weapons enough.

I will concede though, if we…

I will concede though, if we had a Bama like offensive line the last 4 years, we would have won more of the close games and the optics change.   Especially if we had won half the Ohio State games, and a few other games where the offensive line was the main problem.  But we didn't (still don't) have a Bama like offensive line.

As long as we have this…

As long as we have this collaborative offensive process without a named coordinator, it will be more of the same.  Harbaugh is too proud of his Bo inspired, Full back/Tight end/ 3 yards and a cloud of dust approach.

Not suprisingly, we are getting similar results as Bo did:  beat up the weak Big10 opponents, fall short on the big stage, and lose most of your bowl games.  The big difference is Bo beat Ohio State his fair share.

True.  Why pay Pep $1.5…

True.  Why pay Pep $1.5 million if he is just implementing Harbaugh's plays?

I think the offensive woes…

I think the offensive woes boil down to statistics.  It takes big plays to beat good teams.  You limit the number of big plays with Pep's "body blows" philosophy.  The playmakers simply are not getting enough touches. All these "body blows" are wasted opportunities for big plays.

Case in point, when Clemson couldn't run the ball in the first half against ND, they went with a vertical pass attack (with freshmen QB & WR).  They made the big plays in the first half to get a comfortable lead, and then went back to the run game in the second half.  The big downfield plays won the game, not "body blows".

Watching Clemson last night,…

Watching Clemson last night, they couldn't run the ball in the first half, so they went with a vertical pass attack, freshman QB to freshman receiver.  Very effective.

This is an indictment against Harbaugh's offensive philosophy.   How can Clemson have a vertical passing attack with freshmen, and we limit our opportunities with seasoned WRs and QBs who have been in the system a while?  If you can't run the ball, you have to get the ball in the hands of playmakers more than 3 or 4 times a game.  Seems elementary.

To add to that, how can Purdue get the ball to a freshman WR to the tune of 1000 yrd plus, while we haven't yet had any receiver get 1000 yds under Harbaugh?   I don't get it.  At least two of our receivers, Peoples Jones, Collins, ,Black, or Bell should be knocking on 1000 yds.  If not they are being underutilized.

Brohm at least knows enough…

The talent differential in the Purdue/Auburn game was overwhelming at most positions, making the OSU win simply awesome.

Brohm at least knows enough to get the ball in Rondale Moore's hands as many ways as he can and as often as he can.  Not Harbaugh.  Has Harbaugh ever gotten any receiver 1000 yds?  Rondale Moore is just a true freshman and has 1000 yds!

That's called great coaching.

These half collapses are…

These 2nd half collapses are brutal.  Two in a row, and last year's bowl game.  Our bowl preparation is highly suspect.

There seems to be enough data over 4 years to show a trend of late season underperformance compared to earlier in the season.  Why?

You forgot Jeff Brohm who…

You forgot Jeff Brohm who beat Ohio State with a bunch of moons and 2 stars.  Brohm is a superior offensive coach by a lot.

End of season coaching sucks…

End of season coaching sucks....For 3 years now!

Even Virginia beat South Carolina/ Jake Bentley 28-0 who torched us last bowl game.

Maybe we should have hired Mullen instead of Harbaugh.  He took the same players we beat last year and had them ready with a good game plan and play calling.

So glad for early signing period.  We would have lost a couple recruits after that performance.

Maybe the game will get…

Maybe the game will get cancelled due to lightning, like the Boise St/ Boston College bowl.

I love how Harbaugh & Co can…

I love how Harbaugh & Co can identify talent early in the process and beat others to some low hanging fruit, and not rely on other evaluations.  Wait too long and this guy could get enamored with some other program waiting for the evaluations and recruiting ⭐️S to go higher.

Yay!  Got our QB for 2020!

Yay!  Got our QB for 2020!

Must be in a good system (with Spencer Rattler.)

He kind of snarls like Jay Cutler.  Might be a good thing.

What a complete class, strengthening both sides of the ball!  Added speed at skill positions and added prime beef on both lines.  Would like to add one more RB, and maybe  a transfer DT.

Ugh.  More nuclear fallout…

Ugh.  More nuclear fallout from the Game

Dollars = prestige.

At 10-2…

Dollars = prestige.

At 10-2, the Peach bowl ( or Fiesta) is the biggest dollar bowl we qualify for.

Look at 10-2 Wazzu, they got screwed with the Alamo bowl. 9-3 Penn State and 9-3 Kentucky get the less relevant Citrus bowl.  At least we are in a big dollar NY6 bowl.

So glad we are not in the Fiesta playing middleweight UCF.  Beating UCF proves nothing and gains little.  Florida is ranked higher than LSU and beat them too.  We landed the best available matchup.  Beating one of the better SEC teams gives us the best opportunity to gain prestige and a recruiting bump.  Better to have a Florida audience than a LSU audience when we hardly recruit Louisiana.  Better to be in Atlanta near recruits, instead of Arizona with  almost no recruits.
