It's because our rb do more than run. They have to be able to run, block nd catch. Smith is probably the best option to do all at this point. He may not be the best option to just run but he's a good option out of the back field and blocks well.
Are you sure it wasn't that he's tired of losing to teams he knows we are better than? I have a hard time holding it together while I watch some of the mistakes I can't imagine what he feels like, especially if they aren't making the same mistakes in practice. His Monday presser didn't seem any different than usual. I think Dave Brandon being so close to the program works in Richrods favor.
If he's not worried about his qb (likely concussion against us) why would he be concerned about the cameraman? Not saying he put them in harms way intentionally, but the lack of concern for their well being is a problem.
I think it shows the types of players Rich and Co are bringing in.

I'm not Tom but rivals lists Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo, and Michigan as his only offers. I wouldn't count on him making an immediate impact LB seems like it would be difficult to come in and play right away.
I thought that at first. But after thinking about it if the coaches wanted him to play offense from the start and allowed him to try d-line, once the change was made it would allow them to redshirt him to adjust to the position switch.
Has anyone seen Hopkins catch pass in practice or a game? I've thought about it, like most of us, and that's the only thing I can come up with for lack of playing time. I'm not saying he can't I just don't remember seeing it. With this offense he has to be able to catch coming out of the backfield or it's limiting the offensive play calling.

Say what you want about this coaching staff but playing him early to give him some time on the field was a great move. FWIW I'd be willing to bet a penny that this happens on a regular basis.
Best case....we won't have threads like this talking about next year. Not trying to put your thread down but if we aren't talking about them they'll be much improved.
