Thanks and respect for all…

Thanks and respect for all your comments.  My favorite comment from 4godkingandwol pretty much sums up my feelings about tonight's game:

"Watching Corrupt team A beat less Corrupt team B because of team A’s willingness and effectiveness at running a corrupt program is not enjoyable. Likewise, watching two highly corrupt organizations paraded as the best in college when to me college and corruption should be antithetical brings little joy and only dims my worldview."

Silva was a late scratch at…

Silva was a late scratch at 141.  Late insert true freshman Mars was 125 in high school vs. 141 r/s sophomore Storr was a bit of a reach, though Mars held up well.  Silva vs. Storr at 141 would have been very entertaining. Thanks for your wrestling posts!  Appreciated.

Sugarcoated Article

While I get the cozy connections with Donlon being tempted to join his childhood friend, and also his former high school coach, and then having his Dad move in with him in his old hometown of Chicago, I sense there is something sour beyond this serving of sweet lemonade.  Donlon has been a professional in this business long enough to understand and expect all relationships and friendships are transient.  He is many years removed from his childhood playing days with Chris Collins and his former high school coach.   If he were content here at UM, he surely could have multiple reasons to stay, AND even arrange to possibly have his dad live with him in Ann Arbor.  If I understand correctly, this is a lateral move in his career.  Friendships survive and thrive in this business of college basketball without the requirement to be on the same staff.  It is especially convenient to associate and interact in this case, where Ann Arbor is a mere 3 hours from Chicago.  There is plenty of opportunity for year-round interaction with his buddies at Northwestern, and not just because of proximity, but especially because the programs are in the same conference. There are numerous opportunities for path-crossing during any typical year simply due to multiple games vs. each other, B1G Conference meetings, award ceremonies, tournaments, recruiting trails, etc.  Then there's always the off season.  Sorry but I'm just not convinced that the lipstick on this pig is merely home-sickness or a fondness of friends.  Pick any number of reasons:  contract $$$ and/or insecurity, Beilien micro-managment, the opportunity [or lack of]  to become next head coach at UM or Northwestern, returning roster... or whatever, but I suspect somebody just wasn't happy in the relationship.  And here's the stab in the gut that could give us indigestion immediately as well as for some time to come:  Donlon not only transfers to a conference foe, but he is a DEFENSIVE coach who takes Belein's OFFENSIVE PLAYBOOK with him, where he will have quite the (immediate) advantage when facing UM.  He knows our playbook, our kids, our system, our recruits and our coaching tendencies.  And to add salt to the wound, he does this so late in the off-season that we are instantly handicapped while Northwestern will have a head start in preparation for the season.  Northwestern is already off to the races while we're stuck in the starting blocks, tying the laces of our "coaching search" shoes.  No.... I suspect this was way more strategic (maybe even vindictive) than the article makes it out to be. Sorry, but in this report, you may be serving up the rationale of sweet lemonade, but I'm smelling sour grapesjuice.  I could be wrong, but I have my "we can't haz nice things" suspicions.  So I will just say:  Good riddance, Coach Donlon.  Thanks for your one year of service.  I hope we kick your ass EVERY time we meet.  And GO BLUE!

Bo and Woody style.  GO BLUE!!!

I don't count out ND.

I think Kelly has lost his team.  Bad sign.  Kelly has a lot of contract left, but so did Charlie Weiss.  The boosters have deep pockets.  Other jobs are definitely opening up, but Les has the perfect midwestern and national recruiting ties for ND.  That job may not actually open up, though.  And his age may be a factor.

That

would have been SO much better than what the producer gave us !!!

Thanks to everyone

for your contribution to my first ever Thread converstation.  Insightful!!  GO BLUE!

My irritation

is with ESPN for stated reasons.  But thanks for the downvote.

Erased the game

and cannot find the interview replay.  I was so annoyed at the time I couldn't focus on the game or the interview.  But I remember one of the last questions was so ridiculous about did Les "wish he were fired at the end of last season".  He looked stunned at the stupidity of the question as he sidestepped it with political correctness.

More ESPN fail

If indeed they invite a guest for interview and do not provide him with reliable and tested audio equipment.  Disney needs to right-size the business and focus on core quality, I think.

Pretty sure

popular thinking is to play for the tie at home.  Go for it on the road.  Even so... an O'Connor pass play was a horrible call.  The running game was lethal all day, and got them in the end zone in the first place.

Love love love

Our granite countertop. When we remodeled our kitchen a few years ago, we labored over which type of countertop to install more than anything else.  It will be the quarterback of the kitchen remodel, so I feel for you, as I know the choices you face.  You have many good options, but it's delicate, because you must live with your decision for a VERY long time. For my wife and I, it came down to the top two qbs in camp.  Brady or Henson.  Henson (quartz) was the latest and greatest new kid in town, but came at a higher cost.  Quartz is a hard natural mineral but the actual countertop is artificial; flashes of natural brilliance embedded in mainly epoxy (Steinbrenner?) or some type of contaminant. While initially beautiful to the lusting eye, upon closer examination, it will break your heart.  There's no loyalty or love of art in a quartz countertop.  Its appears rich at first sight, but soon the pattern is revealed to be redundant and boring.  While "seemingly" low maintenance, the work will be looking at the same picture, inch by inch, day after day.  The disappointment of this largely artificial piece of work will set in with the betrayal of interesting.

Granite (Brady) on the other hand, is the real article.  All natural,  hardened stone, formed under heat and pressure from the hands of time.  Each slab is cut from the good earth in one piece, strikingly different than the last. Once installed and polished, it has a soothing calm of presence.  It truly radiates a strength and beauty all its own.  Unique in every way. One of a kind.  Built from the ground up.  A masterpiece of artwork from Mother Nature herself.  Every square inch a different brushstroke than the last.

I was once told that the beauty of granite is in its depth.  Every square inch of granite is truly deep with colors and specks of minerals found only in nature. While you look AT quartz, you look INTO granite. Much like seeing a laminate countertop, vs admiring a Rembrandt.

Or to be more precise... GLANCING at Henson vs STARING at Brady... for a very very long time.

But hey, that's just my take.  Maybe not so OT after all.

P.S. If wiping your dining room table is a nonissue, then polishing granite is exactly the same effort; except only once or twice a year. WELL worth it!

Good luck with your decision!  And GO BLUE!!!

Manny over Money =

Mo money.  This is boxing.  Logic has nothing to do with it.  Paydays matter.  Mayweather could fulfill his contract with CBS Sports/Showtime if he loses this first one and wins a rematch in say 6 months to a year.  Then HBO would re-enter the picture in the bid to re-sign Mayweather.  Huge money for Money, even before the third and decisive rubber match.  Who knows how much could be made in a series of matches like this?  Boxing is a business.  Even a shady one, perhaps.

I am predicting the Tigers will lose to KC

last night 8-1; Manny over Floyd in 12; and Jaylen Brown commits to Michigan next Tuesday.  There's my Trifecta.

Goin' out on a limb here....

but picking Pacman over Mayweather in 12 round decision.  Then a rematch.

Bye Daniel Howes!

So sorry to see him have the cushion pulled out from under him.  Maybe he can land one of those second tier autoworker jobs he's been trumpeting for so long now.

Wish I could UPVOTE

Seems personal, though.  Especially since you called someone a "tool" in Nov. 2011.  Maybe I'm just not clear about your standards for people other than yourself on this blog (especially a blog where the author tags someone as "a piece of **** human being").   Anyway, maybe we can agree to....Go Blue!
