I think those are all great points. But consider that some may have the view that Michigan has had some RB talent in the last 7 years and really could not find a complete back that could run effectively, block and move the chains. No difference makers and no guys that really very drafted high in the pros. Michigan has had some good guys (V Smith, etc.) but some criticism of the RB position post-Hart does seem warranted.

If only we had hired our first choice, Cutcliffe ...

He probably was considered, the question is was he available?
|3 weeks 6 days ago||And just to be clear, that||
And just to be clear, that did not start with Jake Ryan, it was used with Jack Johnson before that (Michigan hockey player).
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Well, it's reported on the SI||
Well, it's reported on the SI website. I tend to take those reports a bit more seriously than random twitter stuff. Sure, it contains some hedge language but looks to be pretty solid.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||I get that but a bigger part||
I get that but a bigger part of me just wants a win however it happens. MSU losing Narduzzi makes that more likely.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||So you are saying that||
So you are saying that Michigan is eliminated if he reclassifies? I don't have any idea why that would be the case but you obviously have a solid source for that so I hope he does not reclassify. Does that mean Battle would reclassify also?

Not Spartans or Buckeyes.
|5 weeks 4 days ago||At this point, I am not sure||
At this point, I am not sure even Harbaugh can live up to our expectations. It's like everyone assumes he will come, we will have the #1 ranked recruiting class, every starter will be a #1 pick and Michigan will win the national championship (Obvs). Michigan does have a few holes in its roster let's not forget.
But it it's not him, there is going to be a huge letdown.

Because Gruden is always at the center of every coaching search. Obvs.
|7 weeks 2 days ago||Yep, that sure is a "Scoop!"||
Yep, that sure is a "Scoop!" In summary, Michigan may or may not be waiting to talk with Harbaugh. If they wait on him and he doesn't choose UM, it may hurt Michigan's recruiting class. They may have asked to talk with Jones and Whittingham.
Where can I sign up for the Football Scoop newsletter?
|7 weeks 2 days ago||Totally agree, is there||
Totally agree, is there something about OSU's offense right now that we would not LOVE to have? OSU ran the ball right over our "Manball" defense in late November many years counting. Miss St. would do the same, probably much more effectively than MSU. I hope the new coach will be more open to this versus the "coaching search consultants."

Let's see, I wish we could point to a 6'5" or 6'6" Canadian player that has thrived at Michigan and gone on to become a lottery pick.....

Stop drinking and go to bed.

But also with better facilities (and less of a DB for a coach).
|7 weeks 3 days ago||Did you say above UM? I fail||
Did you say above UM? I fail to see why that is the case. I mean recruiting advantages and weather yes, but less tradition, alumi support, harder SEC path and facilities are nice but probably lag behind Michigan's. And it's not like FLA is coming off good seasons. Maybe that job is about on par with Michigan's but I wouldn't put it above ours.
|7 weeks 4 days ago||Exactly.||
|7 weeks 4 days ago||But not likely as JH's||
But not likely as JH's damages would be offset by his new salary. Assuming a "normal" buyout clause, the 49ers would owe nothing if Michigan hires him.
|7 weeks 4 days ago||I am not familiar with JH's||
I am not familiar with JH's contract but normally even if JH were fired, his compensation would be reduced (or in this case eliminated) to the extent that he gets another job and earns money. Assuming his Michigan comp would be greater than his 49ers contract, there would be no cost to the 49ers (again, assuming he has a standard type of buyout).
|7 weeks 4 days ago||I assume this is sarcasm?||
I assume this is sarcasm? There can be no tampering because Ross /= Michigan (despite his donor status). The NFL could not touch Ross for that unless there is some NFL ownership regulations of which I am not aware.
That's all crazy talk anyway. I could see the possibility that Michigan asks for permission (or is willing to pay for permission) to talk with Harbaugh. Everything else seems bizarre.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||The one problem I see is that||
The one problem I see is that the bigs probably have a limited ceiling this year and much of the improvement typically comes from the permeter players. That said, if the bigs can get to something approaching solid and useful then a very good year is likely.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||I think that's a bit harsh.||
I think that's a bit harsh. Michigan was very ready to beat Nova (a solid ranked team).
I think it more accurate to say Michigan is not ready to beat elite teams right now but can slug it out with ordinary ranked opponents and at times overwhelm unranked opponents.

Apparently I was twice as sad as I thought. :-(
|7 weeks 5 days ago||Agreed. It would have been||
Agreed. It would have been great if he was successful. Good guy, cares a ton for the program and did things the right way mostly. I am relieved that Michigan will be getting a new coach but a bit sad for him that it didn't work.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||If that's true and Miles is a||
If that's true and Miles is a viable candidate (from the Michigan perspective), that's great news because it allows Michigan to conduct a complete search (even wait for Harbaugh possibly) and yet still have a very good candidate in Miles as your Plan B (assuming Miles would only leave LSU for Michigan).
Now, is he is not a possible candidate, then I am a bit more worried.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||Thanks for this. A nice||
Thanks for this. A nice breakdown that let's us see the critical plays and breakdowns. Good play by Larkin to draw the attention of 4 guys.
|8 weeks 4 days ago||If the job is really that||
If the job is really that easy, do we need to be paying guys more than a million dollars per year to perform those ministerial functions? Or maybe there is more to it than that.
|8 weeks 4 days ago||In one sense you have a point||
In one sense you have a point but what if Michigan football hired a coach tomorrow that had zero coaching experience (e.g. he was a school superintendent). Would your approach be the same? Let's see how he recruits and the plays he designs before we react? Or would you wonder what the hell was going on even if you allow that it could work out?
|8 weeks 4 days ago||I am curious that you think||
I am curious that you think Martin failed as an AD. I think he did a good job. You can criticize the football coaching search and hire but ending up with RR looked like a good result at the time (and moreso everyday) and he totally turned around the finances of the AD without pissing people off the way DB did. Plus he made some other good coaching hires (including basketball which was a home run hire although the Amaker one was a dud).

No, sometimes teams actually miss a free throw and still win. Yes, Donnal needs to make those but don't try to pin the loss on him.
