I don't see how Stanford would re-hire Harbaugh and retain Shaw. That's more bizarre than people suggesting that Hoke is fired but stays on as DL coach for a new staff.
|8 hours 1 min ago||And it doesn't really make||
And it doesn't really make sense to put him on a depth chart if it was a discipline or eligibility issue. Bummer that it's a severe injury but relieved that it's not a discipline or eligibility issue.
|1 day 4 hours ago||okay but (1) a pick play||
okay but (1) a pick play almost always affects the play (that's why it's run), and (2) your position ignores many holds that are called away from the play on a run. I agree that a pick play should not be called on the other side of the field but assuming the ball is caught on the pick side, it should be called whenever it impacts the defense in any way. And that just isn't the case currently. On the other hand, there are many holds that are called (or blocks in the back) that never really impact the play. How many times do the announces call out a player's penalty where "there was no need to commit that penalty" but it's called anyway?
|1 day 7 hours ago||Agreed but we should be on||
Agreed but we should be on their case in the other 95% of the time that it is not called (similar to offensive pass interference, which they have started calling a bit more frequently). That's the problem.
|1 day 7 hours ago||Yes you have a point but to||
Yes you have a point but to take this to an extreme, you have no problem with someone being ticketed for jay walking then? People have a problem with the call because it's hardly ever flagged. Yes, techically it's a penalty but if you only choose to call it on a game deciding play, then it smells a bit. I am no Notre Dame fan at all but I can understand Kelly being sour about the call.

Great post, great perspective. Thanks.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Not saying you are wrong but||
Not saying you are wrong but (1) how was he treated so terribly, and (2) do you believe he might have done some things to "deserve" such treatment (as some rumors suggest)? Just wondering.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Agreed. Never say never but||
Agreed. Never say never but I think the timing would point to yet another assistant taking over, at least for this year. Next year might be a different story.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||I assume this does not apply||
I assume this does not apply if you are able to play but choose not to do so. E.g. basketball player plays for one year, voluntarily quits team (no health reasons) and just wants to stay in school for free. I assume the scholarship cuts off. If not, I see a big potential for abuse.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Anyone remember that Butch||
Anyone remember that Butch Davis is free right now? Probably some better names out there but probably some worse ones also.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Well that's not entirely||
Well that's not entirely accurate. Our DL is pretty good right now, yes that DL with a walk-on, 3* DT and 3* DE. Our defense is just fine and has actually developed into a very strong unit. Guess what, Roseboro play DL so looking at the current situation, he would be in great hands.
Even an offense, you could say that Funchess has gone from a low 4* to a potential first round pick and the OL is showing some signs of improvement. Let's not get overly dramatic and remember that the MSU offense was a tire fire only a year ago.

Pretty sure that OSU thinks that DG is a decent QB.
|4 weeks 5 hours ago||Agreed. I was just about the||
Agreed. I was just about to write the same. I do not really care much when they announce the decision, only that they make the best decision. It's a key decision and Hoke's job could be riding on it (or it could make no difference). Take your time, get it right if you are not sure.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Except that it's not. If||
Except that it's not. If Michigan loses on Saturday but somehow sweeps the BiG, it would be a great year and everyone would be happy.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||I don't think it's fair to||
I don't think it's fair to say there is some 8-4 ceiling given that Hoke's first year the team went 11-2. Granted, that may not happen every year but that's what a ceiling is. I can easily envision Hoke putting teams ont he field that lose no more than 2 games (maybe as soon as next year). I think the better question is whether he is good enough to go zero or one loss in certain seasons. I will agree that the jury is out on that.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||I don't think it's quite that||
I don't think it's quite that simple. Nonprofits are subject to reasonable executive compensation limits. You can't just be a CEO of a nonprofit and earn $1 billion per year. I don't know what these guys earn but I assume it's way more than reasonable. If the IRS closely examined it, those items would be on very shaky ground I assume.

|5 weeks 5 days ago||Interesting. I learned that||
Interesting. I learned that MSU has more talent on its roster. Up until now, I was under the false impression that UM had more roster talent.
|5 weeks 5 days ago||Agreed.||
|5 weeks 5 days ago||Gosh, people are such babies||
Gosh, people are such babies around here this week. It's like "Johnny took my toy and I am going to cry until I get it back or he gets punished." Pathetic. (not aimed at Reader obviously)
The score was terrible but the players gave good effort, many of the schemes were decent. We just got beat on the road but a better team (at least right now). Does it really matter that much if the score was 31-0 vs 31-14? I wouldn't feel good either way but people need to get over it.

Replying... just because.
|6 weeks 7 hours ago||Sorry, not buying the "DG||
Sorry, not buying the "DG doesn't perform in big games" statement. Look at OSU and ND last year which were his best games. I think what you mean is DG is not performing at a consistently high level. Or maybe not performing well in big road games. I would agree with those but the sample size on the latter is not very large.
|6 weeks 1 day ago||Ace, thanks for posting. My||
Ace, thanks for posting. My son (first child) has anaphylaxis to milk and dairy. As a one year old, he got ahold of another kid's milk. I got a call at work asking me to rush to the emergency room. Got there just in time to see my first child being wheeled into the ER with an oxygen mask and getting epinephrine shots. Thought I was losing him. Changed my life forever. Fortunately, he is now in high school and is responsible and smart dealing with his food choices and we have avoided major incidents since then.
Best of luck to you and I am glad you are feeling better these days.
|6 weeks 1 day ago||Exactly. Those twitter||
Exactly. Those twitter comments are completely overboard. What person sends obnoxious tweets to players right after the game?
|6 weeks 5 days ago||I would rather that both do||
I would rather that both do it and that it results in an MSU train wreck.

I actually want to see a defense that terrorizes the QB and outscores the ASU offense.

|7 weeks 6 days ago||Not saying you are wrong but||
Not saying you are wrong but I do not like posts that speculate about 2015 transfers when the 2014 season has not started. Besides, I am not sure that the waiver denial makes a transfer more likely. If anything, it probably makes it less likely.

I am not blue either. Although a few days ago I was feeling a bit depressed.
