First, they schools would not necessarily have to pay the players directly although that's probably the best way. Players could either get paid directly by boosters or by a booster club.
Second, if you think that the UM AD just breaks even, that's because it has a pile of money to continue building outrageous facilities and huge salaries.
Although a minor league system could work in theory, much of the fanbase is associated with the game because of the affliation with the schools. Take that away and watch the fanbase dwindle. Plus you basically have an established minor league system right now with the NCAA and the "kids" get a benefit of an education (if they want to use it).
I do agree that the NCAA cannot continue to have very strict rules but very selective and pathetic enforcement.

Um, I see that call made about once during the entire college football season.

Yes, we just cannot identify which one.

It may not sound middle class but when you consider that the starting price for a base Ford Explorer is $31K and an Explorer Sport starts at $43K (different class vehicles I get it) a $35K price (before tax incentives) sounds in line with what many people buy.

I am not sure what "driver" would have a hands-on review since the Model 3 was just "released" and no one was allowed to drive one (only ride alongs). Hard to say it's not a driver's car when the reviewer has not driven it.
And you really need to drive one before deciding that. The Tesla Model S is plenty of a "driver's car" although admittedly its not as jerky or loud as a traditional sports car. But it does put you into the back of the seat and because the battery pack is located at the floor, the center of gravity is very low and allows for good, responsive handling.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||Yes, agree but some you worry||
Yes, agree but some you worry about more than others. I don't see players like Dunaway, McCaffery and others being much of a flight risk. Sure, anything can happen but those would be a shock. I think the point is that Samuels may not be in that "totally safe" category especially with two other RBs committed.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||I am fully on board with this||
I am fully on board with this technology. Full disclosure - I have a deposit in on a Model 3. Having driven the Model S several times over the years and I am a full believer. Sure, the technology needs to keep improving and getting cheaper but right now the Model S beats most of its competitors on most measures other than re-fueling convenience (and that is tipping closer to neutral). The performance and looks of the new models are compelling. I see a shift coming in the next 5-10 years with full electrics will be a significant share of the market. Obviously, the vast decline of fuel prices are slowing down adoption right now but if prices go back up, I feel the technology will be there to support a paradigm shift.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||Not sure that is accurate.||
Not sure that is accurate. Right now there are performance electric cars that go over 200 miles. Maybe not as affordable as you want but the technology is there.
I have been waiting on the Tesla Model S but trying to be practical so I put down my deposit on the Model 3. It's not cheap but $35,000 for a car that goes 0-60 in under 6 seconds (semi-performance) and gets 200 miles on a charge sounds pretty enticing. Oh, and it looks pretty cool also.

|5 weeks 4 days ago||Yes, I kind of got hooked as||
Yes, I kind of got hooked as a student season ticket holder with the Felsner/Robers years including Tamer and Ward and Shields. Those guys were rugged and paved the way for the later glory years of Morrison, Turco, etc.
I have to vote with Morrison but I will say than Connor is in the conversation. It's just that Connor's play I think is actually understated for his level of production. None of his skating, size or moves are off the charts but he is basically a leathal sniper with really good vision and a great set of hands. Without all of the dangling, that doesn't always translate to flashy but it's just as effective.
|5 weeks 4 days ago||Agree with you on Madden but||
Agree with you on Madden but I am not sure he is better than Larkin or Hagelin if we are comparing somewhat similar players. Larkin had the "disadvantage" of having to carry the offensive load but could have been quite the terror on the PK if used in that role. Madden's defensive anticipation and positioning was better than Larkin's but Larkin's hands are definitely better and remember we are talking about freshman Larkin.
Also, surprised that no one has mentioned Billy Muckalt at least in passing.

Kind of a dumb punch by Martin. How many games did the OSU guys get? Also, no mention of the fact that there were two groups where it was 2 OSU guys on 1 UM guy? Wasn't exactly a fight but they were throwing rabbit punches in a 2 on 1.

Of course you are not (and I was not) thinking about potential undergrad transfers that would normallly have to sit out a year but can apply for hardship if close to home. No idea if there are any of those but that got Arnett to MSU without sitting a year.
|15 weeks 4 days ago||Wow, not sure that Brian has||
Wow, not sure that Brian has ever claimed to be an expert but he is a passionate hockey fan, follows the team and offers his opinions. Not sure he has ever claimed to be a former player. Just because he is writing as a fan does not mean he should stay silent on the subject.
Apparently you are too serious about hockey to even cheer for the team. Maybe it's time to take a step back.
I assume you think that all sportswriters should have played the game as appropriate levels - otherwise why are they fit to offer opinions?
You can disagree with Brian's opinion on these things - fine. But to then say "stick to football" to him and imply that he cannot write about his opinions on his own blog is lunacy.

For Henry: "If he does depart move him to #1 in the departing category."
Not true for me. He would probably be #3 behind Wilson and Morgan. Wilson because of obvious hole without him and Morgan because of the LB depth problem. We would love it if we could say at worst the LB crew would be Morgan and Gedeon.
While Henry is good, we have the depth to weather that loss, especially if Gary arrives.

Are the basketball teams going to start hanging banners for making the NCAA tournament? At that point, it's basically a participation award. And yes, this is different from the Final Four in basketball because that requires winning 4 games in the tourney, not just being selected.

|17 weeks 3 days ago||Well, as effective as he was,||
Well, as effective as he was, I don't think many people are going to be double-teaming him in the post any time soon. Most of him points came from dump offs and rebounds. But just to have another credible player at the 5 spot would be great.
|18 weeks 4 days ago||I think he is just||
I think he is just acknowledging the reality that that is a very competitive business and that, until the NCAA enforces rules against doing this, you are putting your school at a competitive disadvantage if you do not. I don't have to like it but I acknowledge that's a reality.
