What's Going On?

I don't get it.

These are generally 4 star players. They dominated at the level below this. With or without coaches they naturally know their positions and are able to learn others.

Instead they look terrible out there.

Same with the coaches. This is not their first assignment. They have excelled elsewhere

It's not just the won-lost record

We could fill the schedule with Akron, Connecticut, etc. and have last minute and overtime wins every game but not be a good football team.

Our offensive and defensive play both stink no matter what the record shows. One or too lapses and lucky wins maybe but that does not describe this team.

There is a standard of play we need to look at. If we play up to that standard and still lose to a better team, I think I can live with that.

Why?

Why are our 4-5 star recruits getting pushed around and outplayed by everybody's 2-3 star recruits?

Comparison Nationally?

With two nationally top ten recruiting classes, it's not just a Big Ten or regional title Michigan is competing for. It's a possible national championship.

Why not a comparison as well with national leaders for the 2013 class and whether key positions are filled, why the talent is going where it's going, etc.

Underappreciated Factor

I figure Shane Morris is in a large way responsible for the recruits in 2013.

Wishful Thinking

Would love it if Tressel started competing with Ohio State for recruits. I know, not gonna happen.

You're Probably Right But I hated it when my Univ of Wisconsin friend referred to us as "The Baby Seal" of football teams.
Defense While there were earlier comparisons of our defense to Alabama, etc., we are losing to Illinois, Purdue, and almost to Indiana. Surely our defense is significantly better than these teams. Our recruiting class has enough quality athletes to rank consistently in the top 20 nationwide, but in reality we are playing around 50 or lower. Given the raw talent recruited, the coaches should be able to teach gifted athletes what they need for the team to compete in the upper tier of the Big Ten. RR has brought the assistant defensive coaches with him from WV. After this season, more changes apparently need to be made.
Defense Comparisons Maybe just as interesting would be a look at the defensive talent compared to Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, etc.; teams we should dominate in the Big 10 not lose to or have a last minute win.
Defensive Coaching Staff Google says apart from Robinson there are three coaches on the defensive coaching staff: Bruce Tall (defensive line), Jay Hopson (linebackers), and Tony Gibson (Secondary). All but Robinson came from WV with RR. How much responsibility for the defensive performance is theirs vs the players?
Carnack !. Jimmy Hoffa 2. Amelia Earhart 3. The Michigan Football Defense Carnack: Name three things that mysteriously disappeared without a trace.
. The trend is encouraging. If we stay at 367 yards per game we would rank seventh in the Big Ten. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/stats/byteam?cat1=offense&confere… Michigan leads the Big Ten in points per game. If they could tighten up on defense there might or might not be two less defeats. Look at the defense statistics for the Big Ten. We rank tenth in total yards (388 yards per game), ahead of only Illinois (409 yards per game). Statistics don't tell the whole story but it's hard to argue one or two plays a game to say how good or bad the team is. Interestingly at the end of last year's 3 and 9 season we ranked ninth in the Big Ten allowing 367 yards per game. Along with that we allowed 29 points per game vs. 24.5 this year.
. Your point is ignore the stats, the defensive performance last night was great? And that if Michigan did not have such a great defense we would have lost by a lot more. Short yardage scores don't add much to the total yardage stats.
Newbie?, Troll?
To date Mich
Newbie?, Troll? To date Mich defense 388 yards per game To date Iowa offense 363 yards per game Last night Iowa offense 367 yards. Not improving in leaps and bounds after 6 games.
Defense Read the various articles on Georgia's defense for the Georgia - Tennessee game. It sounds like what's been said about Michigan's defense. Georgia has superior recruiting as well. The blame is put on the coaching staff. RR doesn't have the time to let things play out 2 or 3 years to see if Robinson is right for the job. 28 points should be enough offense to win.
Special Teams Why Don't they consider putting D Robinson in on kickoff returns?
28 Yards Rushing? What is the analysis of this? Offensive line not blocking? not opening holes? Running up the middle too much? Sparty doesn't have a better recruiting class. It wasn't the weather or they wouldn't have gotten 197 yards.
Fundamentals Last year there were too many blown tackles by the defense. Capers winning run in overtime was notable for two blown tackles on the way. Was it just the rain?
