That's a solid observation…

That's a solid observation. I hadn't noticed Colson until you mentioned him. It seems like he breaks down expecting McCully to use his blockers and take off up the sideline, but from the sideline view it seems like if Colson didn't breakdown he definitely would've influenced the throw.

Last I looked the O/U was 39…

Last I looked the O/U was 39.5, so I might have to take the under. Nevada is bad, but I could see a 28-0 Iowa win.

I've only ever driven…

I've only ever driven through Ft. Collins, but I'd imagine it's pretty dang similar to Reno aside from the casinos. Definitely has that big-small town feeling where there's always stuff going on but not very hard to probably get 4 degrees of separation for 90% of the population.

So many Nevada Ns. Stovall…

So many Nevada Ns. Stovall and Horton are pretty good for MWC standards, but thankfully Doubs went to the NFL instead of taking a 5th yr and heading to CSU.

It caught my eye right away,…

It caught my eye right away, and as a Renoite it was sort of like nails on a chalkboard.

Makes a lot of sense. Where…

Makes a lot of sense. Where some kids are early bloomers and look like men amongst boys in H.S., there's probably plenty of later bloomers that don't come near that ceiling until a year or two out of H.S.  Definitely not a recruiting strategy to bank on, though.

Might have to check it out…

Might have to check it out for his perspective on Reno as a fellow Renoite. The area doesn't produce many FBS recruits, so it's interesting to follow their careers.

I agree, that punt return is…

I agree, that punt return is a good example of that athleticism. That burst from the 30 to the 15 seems pretty impressive for a kid coming to man the middle of the D.

He'll learn soon enough…

He'll learn soon enough. Interested to see if Wilson's results are closer to Polian or Norvell.

Yeah, he's Allen's cousin. …

Yeah, he's Allen's cousin.  I recall a bit of frustration that he wasn't offered earlier and recruited harder as a legacy before ending up at OSU

Vilain. Hopefully overcome…

Vilain. Hopefully overcome the injuries that hampered him his first two years.

Was looking for someone to…

Was looking for someone to say rugby.  Played in college, and for a local semi-pro (not sure what to call it honestly, but not rec league) for a few years, before I had too little time and too many injuries.

I enjoy league and union but prefer union rules - maybe I'm just a sucker for a good ruck or set off a lineout. I think the poster blow mentioned 7's and that is a blast to watch as well especially since the USA Eagles are competitive in 7s. The Eagles also have the lightning in a bottle duo of Carlin Isles and Perry Baker who get the adrenaline pumping whenever they have the ball in space.

I agree! I honestly always…

I agree! I honestly always wondered what an effective play looked like from the Swinging Gate.

A couple high schools in our division always lined up in the Swinging Gate, but never seemed to run anything from it as they always shifted back. It seemed that as long as you took 30min in practice to learn the defensive alignment for it, and did so correctly in game they just shifted and kicked.

I have little technical…

I have little technical basketball knowledge, but the turnaround the Coach Muss was able to make at Nevada was fantastic, and seems to be a solid coach. It was painful to lose him, and to add salt to the wound they hired Alford...

I completely agree. Until…

I completely agree. Until there is a tidal shift in the college football landscape, 10-2 and 9-3 seasons will be the norm. I'd be extremely happy if we could at least go .500 against OSU while dropping the occasional clunker in conference, get a shot at the B1G championship game and the Rose Bowl over the next 5-6 years, but I just don't see it being a consistent scenario every season.

I'd prefer to go 13-0 winning the conference championship with wins over OSU and an appearance in the CFP, and that kind of season is definitely a possibility, but I just don't see it consistently happening. Hell, maybe Day will end up like Larry Coker and fall off a cliff, but I can't see into the future, so I'm not going to presume it happens.

Dan Carlin's Hardcore…

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History podcast has six shows (50-55) on WW1. It's a solid 20ish hours of great info on WW1.  I'd recommend it for anybody interested in the topic as well as the podcast in general.

Those are all great points. …

Those are all great points.  I'm not sure who's been his QB coach for the last half decade, but I can't imagine it's someone exceptional. As a Reno local, I'm definitely pulling for the kid, but I don't see him as someone who's going to be a multiyear starter pulling in the Davy O'Brien or sitting in NY in December.  Given what I've read and seen live I figure he's going to be a great depth guy who when/if has to step in it won't feel like the world is going to end. But honestly who the hell knows?  Maybe he is a "poor-man's" Shea and lights it up in a couple years as a facilitator of speed in space.

P.S. it was pretty cool to see my old HS coach quoted on MGoBlog.

I felt the play should've…

I felt the play should've been a 2min minor - since the outcome was penalized rather than the play, but that's on the Knights for not killing the penalty. The second sentence of your comment is way off base. Granted every fan base of every team thinks the officials are out to get them, but the refereeing the Sharks faced down the stretch was absolutely atrocious (see the last 2 games against the Bruins).

Regardless if VGK was robbed or not, that penalty made for the most fun hockey I've watched. I really had no ill will towards VGK other than their in our conference and we need to beat them, but after seeing Gallant and his antics they're on the same level as the Kings and Ducks for me.

Didn't the investigation…

Didn't the investigation reveal that Urban was notified of McMurphy's story and at that time, asked a staffer how to remove messages over a year old? That seems like intent to hide something if you ask me.

Never played sports with a

Never played sports with a nagging ankle, hammy, or any other sort of workable injury?  Coverage picked up during warmups, when he was trying to work through his hammy issue.  Maybe a little adrenaline and stretching (perhaps cortisone shot) makes the appendage feel like new, but you’re not going to know unless you get out there and get the blood flowing.

Post Orange Bowl, Peppers was interviewed in the locker room and clarified that Coach wanted him in the booth as to not draw attention or create a spectacle regarding him not playing.

*Edit: I think Erik is more on point in regards to why he was in the booth.

No family connection to the

No family connection to the University or the state whatsoever, but I did have a Sega Genesis when I was 7yrs old, and my dad had bought me "College Football USA 96" (soon to become NCAA Football).  I was instantly attracted to Michigan's uniforms and the fact that Tim Biakabutuka was an animal and the only way I could do anything against my dad was through him.  Fast forward to Nov. 25, 1995 when Tim ran for 313yrds against OSU ending their National Champ bid and my love for Michigan was solidified.  That was just the start of my fandom and a string of my favorite players.

Fast forward again to 2005 when I'm applying for uni and get back my acceptance letter from Michigan; that was a bittersweet moment - sweet knowing I got accepted into a premier university and one that I desperately wanted to get into - bitter knowing that I couldn't afford tuition without a whole hell of a lot of debt.  Regardless of my lack of attendance to the school I’m still one helluva Michigan nerd thanks to this site.

I'd take Magnus's evaluations I'd take Magnus's evaluations over recruiting site writers any day. He and Space Coyote seem much more knowledgeable than any of the recruiting "professionals"

This is exactly where I fell.

This is exactly where I fell.  I didn't qualify for financial aid, but my parents couldn't afford to send me to Michigan. The scholarships I did get barely dented the costs, so I decided to stay home and go to school for free.  As excited as I was to be accepted to Michigan - I have no regrets in not attending due to the fact that I'm not burdedned with debt and my engineering career is doing just fine without the Michigan diploma.  Also, there's always grad school.

I'm surprised we're not apart of that BYU chunk.

Could've fooled me.

I very rarely receive any flack when I sport maize and blue around Reno.

I couldn't agree more.  While

I couldn't agree more.  While I associate specific players with the number they wore, his name is what deserves more recognition.  I don't refer to Woodson as ole #2 or Woodley as big #56, I think of their name and the plays they made.  They themselves are the legacy, not the number.  I'd love to see another great player wear #21 lining up in the backfield or outside the hash just I love seeing a hulking figure wearing #77 on the end of the OL.

Ran into them at the Utah

Ran into them at the Utah game.  Sad to say I didn't see or hear her past the 3rd quarter of that game, though.

Nitpicking

On the zone read with the FB arc block where the DE bites hard on the RB action; it's RJS, not Ojemudia.  With that said Ojemudia defintely had some horrible plays.  Far from the boring assignment sound DE play I was expecting from him.

Overblown

Living in Reno at around 4,500ft amsl, I can say I never noticed much of a difference in my endurance going to sea level in CA to play rugby matches. Nor did we ever hear anything in regards to the CA uni teams coming up here and feeling like their fitness was lacking.

Dancing around a pulling guard.

Instead of taking on the block and sitting in the hole, I tried to dance around or juke a pulling guard.  DL Coach kept telling me to, "tuck my labia in."

Rugby tackling

As someone who went from playing football growing up (learning form tackling) to playing rugby at uni; you nailed the differences pretty spot on.  The differences became apparent to me rather quickly as it took time to adjust to the rugby style, and I took quite a few forearm shivers to the face before getting my head behind the ball carrier became second nature.

Always appreciate your posts and input, and seeing this reminded me to visit your site more often.

Cheers!

Bummed to see him leave

Bummed to see him leave Nevada, but it would be fantastic to see him go blue.  He really stepped up his game this year, and became a nice compliment to Burton.

P.S. Her twitter TL has some great anecdotes

$$

I've always wondered how much money the NFL spent of getting pink accessories, and how much of that money could've been donated to research.  But then again, a straight donation doesn't get the NFL as much press and good publicity as wearing a bunch of pink crap does.

Victim of a hoax No way he's a victim. Allegedly a family friend behind the fake twitter and such. His parents tied into it. If deadspin's investigation is as thorough as it seems he had to have known. Te'o can't be that naive.
Praise is the only thing a

Praise is the only thing a lot of these guys ever hear, so what's it matter that Magnus gives them a little criticism?   On TTB he states that he's a high school coach, emphasizing on LB's and DL, which doesn't mean he's an expert, but he probably has a more technical understanding than a lot of us do.

I for one, appreciate his views on a lot of players.  My only complaint is, I wish he posted more content, but it's his hobby/side job so I understand.  The way he conducts himself reminds me a lot of my old DL coach in high school, who would tell you how it is.

P.S. - Coach Coombs, is that you?

Bittersweet

Did great things for Nevada, but so many frustrating in-game decisions.  Our AD is stepping down, so it's a pretty good bet he goes back to that role.

Hopefully Ault brings in some folks who will continue to run the Pistol effectively, but there definitely needs to be some change.  It would be nice if he brings in a defensive mind with an agressive, gambler type attitude/atmosphere.  Maybe take some chances rather than pussy foot around late in games with piss poor clock management.  I get it's Nevada, but 8-4 should be the bar.

Redshirts

I'm not too keen on redshirt regulations, but is it a possibility that they want to preserve Richardson's redshirt?

Falling apart Common theme with Ault these past 7 years or so. The only season he didn't choke away at least 2 games, was 2010 year we (engineering alum) had a RS senior Kaep. I'm not irrational, I'd gladly take 8-4 and playing second fiddle to Boise -please don't leave- but these choke jobs are infuriating. Whether it's shit clock management or crappy D, the conservative atmosphere the Ault has is sickening.

P.S. Ault needs to take some notes from a Redskins game.
New Coaches

Yeah, TomVH touched on the coaching situations in Tenn and Auburn during his recruiting chat.  They may make it more difficult if either makes a splash with big name hire.  A big name coach will probably do more harm then good in either of those locations.

Pretty sure it's a legal formation, but the inside receiver that is on the line is not eligible.

The offer

Does the coaching staff pull the offer completely, or do they just consider him uncommitted?  I mean, what if he visits Oregon, doesn't like and it wants to recommit?  Is the offer still there?

I'm assuming this has been discussed before, but the old Conley/Dawson threads are lengthy and would rather not scour through them to find the answer.
