It wouldn't be a "knee-jerk" tantrum if he had a response prepared in the event this ruling came down.
If he did his homework.
His anodyne response coupled with the results suggests that this is not a case of him fighting a good fight and losing, but not fighting at all.
I strongly disagree with your characterization of Delaney declining to give a passioned response of disappointment nor one of potentially considering the B1G's options as a "knee-jerk tantrum."
Whether it is a tantrum or not is dictated by the wording. Whether it is knee-jerk is dictated by the preparation (or lack thereof), both of which were under DeLaney's control.
If you have low expectations, you will have administrators who will meet, but not exceed, those expectations.

Yeah I would pay to see a Batman movie with Affleck (without Cavill's Superman nor Gadot's Wonder Woman).
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Movie not as bad as the||
Movie not as bad as the reviewers if you understand the feel of the Miller comic. I do think Snyder is a mediocre (AT BEST) director.
Affleck was best part of the film, hands down.
Wonder Woman completely irrelevant, totally pasted on. Gadot's performance was about as dramatic as her presence on the movie poster. In fact, they could have just put a poster up for her scenes.
Cavill is a walking Superman costume. Only marginally more relevant that Gadot's Wonder Woman.
So, "B" grade for the movie. "A" for Affleck. "C" for Snyder, Cavill, and Gadot.
A+++ for the comic book.

I admit I'm not a good college bball authority, but correct me if I'm wrong: wasn't this a crazy year across the board for pretty much EVERY team? And didn't we get hit with the injury bug pretty hard?
So isn't this kind of questioning maybe perhaps possibly a wee bit premature?
Hell, maybe we can hire Duke's coach - I hear they might fire him because he's having an off-year. /s
|7 weeks 5 days ago||Actually, I think Lovie's||
Actually, I think Lovie's biggest potential problem won't be the quality of his game, but his reputation as an accommodating "player's coach."
He'll need some disciplinarian skills to manage the college kids, I'm afraid. So that, I think, might be his biggest challenge.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||I don't know how outdated he||
I don't know how outdated he is. Especially relative to Illinois.
Besides we're not going to run something too dissimilar from a cover two with speedy LB/secondary hybrids, as I understand it (though we're certainly not calling it that). It's a flexible defense. Definitely bend-don't-break, so should keep other teams from running the score too much on them, even if they're undertalented. With a little luck on the offensive phase, I think Lovie will do just fine with that in the B1G.
Not a bad hire at all for Illinois.
|8 weeks 3 days ago||With Peppers in there (and||
With Peppers in there (and perhaps other members of the secondary), it really wouldn't surprise me to see Michigan D going "46" on the defense every once in awhile. Usually you want LBs that can play secondary... but if you have secondary that can play LB, well, same difference.
Remember, Harbaugh began his pro career as a Bear, after all.
46 is weak against a quick passing game with a quick release QB, but we shouldn't see a lot of teams with that this season.

I think Harb's tweet was more a excuse to raise awareness of SEC hypocrisy rather than Kirby's potential hypocrisy.
In other words, I think JH is saying that he can push back when pushed, and that the SEC is vulnerable to crticism.

|11 weeks 14 hours ago||It has massive implications,||
It has massive implications, including philosophical.
It means that we can potentially "see" the initiation of the Big Bang itself, since RF energy, the current only means we have of observing the universe, only allows us to see up to about 400k years after the Big Bang. Why? The baby universe was too dense prior to that to allow the propagation of RF energy necessary to allow us to observe today.
But gravitational waves should have been able to travel unabated even through the dense initial stages of the universe. They're just so darned tiny and hard to detect! But we now KNOW they're out there.
Who knows where this might lead? A means of interstellar communication? Another way of detecting life? A more efficient way of explaining/detecting dark energy/matter? The universal boundary is the limit.
Once in a generation type discovery.

I don't think Gary has much to worry about in terms of being skewered by the media (any more than he already has been).
Read what Hackett said CLOSELY. He said he "THINKS" Gary "MIGHT" have been offered incentives.
There's nothing to pursue here. You know what? We ALL think Gary, and just about every one else worth serious look, has probably been offered SOMETHING by SOMEONE at SOME TIME during the recruiting process.
That and a quarter will get you a quarter.
Reporter: "Mr. Gary, someone says you might have been offered incentives to go to other programs. Is that true?"
Gary: "No," or, "I can't remember," or, "I'm just glad to be at Michigan so I can now focus on the NEXT step."
End of story.
But the culprits involved can read between the lines: Michigan knows what you're doing. We're hunting for big game and big name recruits now, and if you engage in this kind of behavior, you have been warned: you will be called out on it.
How nice would it be if, in the future, when we were pursuing a promising high school player, the other programs withdrew illegal incentives because they knew there was a fair chance that the player might ultimately come to Michigan and spill the beans?
I think that's what this is all about.
Gary is no stranger at this tender age to media attention. And with this one, it's all smoke, no fire, so no legs to this story unless someone produces evidence. Gary is the only one likely to provide a substantial eyewitness account, so that is unlikely to happen without UM blessing. And to act like he is a neophyte to media attention is ridiculous. He is NO stranger to attention and thrives just fine under it.
This story will make our recruiting lives easier in the future.
|12 weeks 14 hours ago||I think this was just the||
I think this was just the right amount of response.
Nuanced, not directly accusatorial, but enough to serve notice that future high-profile recruits that we pursue that are illegally incentivized by other programs MIGHT have those programs called out.
Hackett served notice that we are not part of any Code Of Silence, so don't phk with our recruits illegally.
I'm okay with that.

Amazing to watch such dramatic culture change happening right before our eyes.
I want to remember this as we become a program that recruits this well EVERY year.
