An investigation? Dude…

An investigation? Dude wanted to leave and could leverage SD or UM for $$ and control. Even if he wanted to stay BUT.... then he was already on the fence and the Athletic Department could not extend him given the optics of Burgergate then Stalions. It sounds bad in hindsight but the athletic department couldn't give a guaranteed contract to a coach with multiple investigations. I won't deny ineptitude but I think it was prudent to let him go if he wanted and you don't want a Mel Tuckerlike contract for a coach that could be suspended.

Jay Harbaugh's loss big on…

Jay Harbaugh's loss big on Special Teams. That unit has been pretty good, especially kicking and punting and fun blocks and tricks. I hope they can find somebody with high attention to detail and creativity there.

The first route seems to…

The first route seems to make sense to me. Hungry, smart young coaches that want to be a head coach someday has worked well lately and there could be other talent out there with more budget available for assistants, unless Warde does something completely out of left field and hires Bill Belichick or something.

Corey Schlesinger, Johnnie…

Corey Schlesinger, Johnnie Morton, Mark Carrier, James Hall, Terry Fair, and David Sloan. Schlesinger cracked his helmet at least once and just seemed built to play FB in that era.

"Big bowl game" is some 80s…

"Big bowl game" is some 80s or 90s stuff. They would have played if they were in the playoff. They are under no obligation to risk injury or draft status to win one for the gipper or whatever. NFL pays and bowl games are basically exhibitions with no incentive.

He's right. CFB is basically…

He's right. CFB is basically dead and has been for like ten years but it has come with more money and concessions to the players. It's pretty pathetic that the NCG pulls in fewer viewers than a typical Sunday Night Football game and kind of shows the ceiling the TV money will offer. Expanding the playoffs may help bring more relevance to certain bowl games but there's no contracts like the NFL so postseason is kind of optional and without substance aside from playoff teams.

Maybe bowls should be able to offer cash prizes for the winning teams or something beyond just the swag bags but I really think it comes down to the biggest programs are carving out a bigger slice of player and monetary resources and need to stop playing stupid games against Bowling Green and Middle Tennessee St. Raise the profile of the biggest 30-40 teams and their followings may increase and viewership along with it. College football will never match the NFL but it can at least elevate its best teams to what they really are (semi-pro) and end boring bowl games with no meaning and hollow rosters.

Pay them too. Athletes…

Pay them too. Athletes become professionals out of high school in baseball and hockey and still go to college and compete at a high level. Football can still chase the most money and then utilize the financial support and assets to pay and train the athletes at a market appropriate level.

Iowa will definitely lead…

Iowa will definitely lead the nation in hitting if true.

Well it wasn't long ago that…

Well it wasn't long ago that UM fans were saying the same about Wilton Speight, John O'Korn, Brandon Peters, Shea Patterson, Dylan McCaffrey, and Joe Milton.

Maybe not this game but…

Maybe not this game but Rashan Gary sat out the Peach Bowl and Jabrill was "injured" right before FSU.

Damn that's like 70mm/person…

Damn that's like 70mm/person in attendance.

Of course, same with Women's…

Of course, same with Women's Basketball. I think the problem is that some sports clearly make money and the ones that don't are already subsidized by the revenue sports so if forced to make equal payments, some sports will be sacrificed and schools will have to choose which ones will get the revenue split therefore making those that choose to offer compensation more attractive (e.g. School A stops at water polo compensation but School B emphasizes it, School B will have more attractive recruiting pitch. School A decides it no longer can compete and drops the sport resulting in fewer scholarships for everyone).

Plus, I don't think there is a women's sport that has 85 scholarships like football. It automatically imbalances the ability to split based on gender because one men's sport that attracts the most revenue also has the most scholarships and must be offset. It's not like basketball where men's and women's teams are both limited to 15 scholarships.

I may get bashed here but I…

I may get bashed here but I don't think Title IX should have anything to do with this. It is not the fault of Men's Football and Basketball that they have higher TV ad revenue as well as money from things like bowl games. Just as Men's water polo or tennis isn't bringing in the eyeballs, assuming that everything has to be equal based on straight numbers is concluding that every athlete faces the same risks and that every sport derives the same post-amateur prospects.

Jim Harbaugh makes probably 20x what the women's volleyball coach makes and we are okay with that because of the profile of the sport. Why does a different logic have to apply to the athletes, especially when the sports themselves have different rules within the NCAA framework?

Exactly. What else could…

Exactly. What else could they possibly do besides not have late-season injuries? To claim it is because they lost their QB makes it seem like they know the outcomes of an unknowable future.

2014 OSU loses to Virginia Tech and manages to get #4 in final CFP despite Cardale Jones having to fill in for J.T. Barrett in the B1G championship game and only 2 wins over ranked opponents (MSU and Minnesota). That same year Baylor loses one close game at West Virginia then wins the Big12CG and TCU loses just one close game to Baylor but had 4 wins over ranked opponents yet neither make it to the playoff. FSU deserved to be there that year, as did Oregon and probably Alabama. OSU didn't seem to fit, had a new QB and was shaky on defense yet they win it all.

If you win all your games in a major conference, you should have a shot.

Mixed feelings about UGA-FSU…

Mixed feelings about UGA-FSU. If FSU wins after getting screwed then the committee will look even worse and if they lose it will be "vindication" for leaving them out of playoff. UGA's loss should put them below OSU so I think it should be OSU-FSU and UGA-Oregon with somebody like Missouri or Ole Miss vs. Liberty.

1973 + 50 = 2023 - - I think…

1973 + 50 = 2023 - - I think you are right.

I feel like 35 fumbles, 120…

I feel like 35 fumbles, 120 sacks, and 27 INTs through 35 games is pretty much collapsing. Maybe not a Zach Wilson or Bryce Young kind of bust but just not somebody you can trust with the ball.

Not sure but JJ has chance…

Not sure but JJ has chance to beat OSU 4 times which I don't think has been done by any other Michigan QB since the times of Biff.

Which I imagine looks like…

Which I imagine looks like this:

So humans aren't part of…

So humans aren't part of nature?

Yep, deer hunting is an…

Yep, deer hunting is an important part of the ecosystem and God help us if we don't let people use those past-ancient human instincts and desire to hunt. It's not my thing but it is that or we have a bunch more car accidents, destroyed crops, ticks, and less money for conservation.

NFL but Mike Zimmer and Matt…

NFL but Mike Zimmer and Matt Nagy were both fired after the 2021 season. Probably happens often in the NFL on Black Monday.

Yep. Let the NCAA keep the…

Yep. Let the NCAA keep the Tulsas and MSUs and bring the top programs to a new place that isn't governed by kangaroo courts and star chambers.

Yeah, agree on NCAA. I think…

Yeah, agree on NCAA. I think it is time that useless organization is put out to pasture and we acknowledge what college sports has become.

Also, why on earth are the NCAA and B1G both able to govern? Are there any other sports where a league and the parent organization are both able to issue a bunch of antiquated rules and enforce them unevenly? Time to blow them up and get players paid.

I think they should consider…

I think they should consider leaving the B1G but also consider leaving the NCAA entirely. Quietly work to create a model for schools that want to be able to transparently contract with athletes and has rules more in line with pro/semi-pro sports. Get some of the biggest schools on board, negotiate distribution for revenue sports, drop the "academic" enforcement, and find ways to enhance the profile and competition of non-revenue sports. If you get 30-40 of the top schools, you can still have playoffs and brackets and rivalries and stuff but you can also channel the resources to the schools that really get the eyeballs and are committed to athletic excellence.

Eventually more schools would see the benefits and want to join but it would at least stop the conference dilution problem and offer better ways to properly compensate athletes.

And fight the fine if you…

And fight the fine if you are Michigan.

Dude, none of that matters…

Dude, none of that matters. 2014 Ohio State lost to Virginia Tech at home and needed OT to beat a .500 PSU team. Last year UGA squeaked by Kentucky and Missouri. In 2018 Clemson nearly lost to Syracuse and Texas A&M and two years before they lost to Pittsburgh and almost lost to Auburn, Troy, NC State, Florida State, and Virginia Tech. All national champions yet they lost games and won some close ones. You can't identify a team's postseason viability or current strength just based on having close games.

And I thought I was crazy…

And I thought I was crazy thinking FSU should be No. 1 and Washington No. 3.

Thank you! I tried to edit…

Thank you! I tried to edit OP to change to this link but couldn't get it to work.

He says "Iowa Dad five…

He says "Iowa Dad five points"

100% I was on the fence…

100% I was on the fence about his first contract given they had still not beaten OSU but he swallowed his pride, made necessary changes, and started winning big games. He also did this without much institutional support and weird interference by possibly the worst governing body in the country.

Why would anyone take …

Why would anyone take "College football nerds" seriously? Sounds like reddit conspiracy crap.

Undisciplined is being…

Undisciplined is being generous based on what I have read. He seems more like one of those people who unfortunately is in a high position but has created problems everywhere he goes. Maybe he has (in his mind) good intentions, but boy does he seem to get it wrong every step of the way.

I think this is correct…

I think this is correct. There is a sort of unsaid agreement that schools won't tattle on each other because the conference winning NCs is more important. I also think they kind of look at it as a challenge to deal with rather than an excuse.

That's nothing, next they'll…

That's nothing, next they'll say Michigan was utilizing Gorgon Stare and tensor holography.

I agree but don't think…

I agree but don't think anyone is in a position to pick and choose what rules they like and will abide by and the ones they find anachronistic and not worthy of following. You know there are many SEC schools who thought it outdated to prohibit delivering bags of money to recruits houses. It is ridiculous that Michigan gets investigated for stuff like this and Stretchgate and clear that the NCAA is living in the past. Until a new governing body is established, we're stuck with inflexible rules written for a completely different landscape.

Diego Pavia - NMSU. Now idea…

Diego Pavia - NMSU. No idea if he'd portal but this dude is lighting it up for New Mexico State and keeps improving. He's pretty fun to watch, good pickup for Jerry Kill.

Lots of QBs will be picked…

Lots of QBs will be picked next year - Caleb Williams, Michael Penix, Bo Nix, Jayden Daniels, Jordan Travis, Sam Hartman, Taulia Tagovailoa, and probably more. To scouts, JJ's film probably holds up with the rest of these guys and I could certainly see him being a 1st round pick. A guy like Rising will be well-rested and it will be a serious audition for the NFL. Maybe he does move on from Utah but I doubt Whittingham would want to let an experienced QB like that walk.

Right or what if somebody…

Right or what if somebody starts filming the sidelines of games and posting it to youtube?

I really find it hard to…

I really find it hard to believe that even if this was true Michigan is the only school doing anything like this. Coaches get paid millions and I imagine some will pay somebody to scout opponents and decipher their goofy signs.

What this looks like to me is the NCAA trying to shift from player clearinghouse to institutional referee. The scrutiny has shifted far from player discipline and rules to the coaches and schools. They've thrown their hands up on transfers and NIL and find themselves bereaved of authority.

Right now JT Daniels is playing his sixth year at his fourth school and probably every power five QB1 is making more than Johnny Manziel did in college. NCAA has nothing to do and says: "Let's open up a tip line for coaches."

Thank you. Michigan sports…

Thank you. Michigan sports fandom has taught me that teams can look great and yet end up with no hardware at the end of the season. That year I was also convinced the Tigers would win the WS after beating the Yankees in the playoffs and that Brady Hoke would win multiple B1G titles at Michigan.

Straight dropbacks,…

Straight dropbacks, splitbacks, cowboy collars, perms on cheerleaders - very 80s football. Just missing receivers lined up in a three point stance.

I also thought it was…

I also thought it was illegal. Seems fine to me but slight advantage to the offense. The NFL sometimes makes big changes for weird reasons like Shea McLellin timed this FG block perfectly and then the league banned jumping the line after the season.

They're all sex toys.

They're all sex toys.

On Dec. 9, 2022, Tracy…

On Dec. 9, 2022, Tracy texted Alvarado, “I’m filing a formal complaint with MSU. ... Karen said after that we can let him know that we want to come to an agreement, then it doesn’t have to go to a hearing or anything unless he wants it to.”

The letter claims one week before Tracy filed her complaint against Tucker, she admitted to being “down to $5.” She also talked about realizing she was supposed to be paying down 2018 taxes, Tucker’s lawyers said.

“So apparently I was supposed to be paying down 2018 taxes and not staying caught up on the other years because now the IRS wants their money,” Tracy wrote at 7:58 p.m. Dec. 19, 2022. “I have to come up with $25K over the next six weeks.”

Could be out of context. Who knows. On certain levels, almost everything is motivated by money in some way.

You are right that some…

You are right that some never believed the victims in the first place. And I hardly think that even after Duke Lacrosse and The University of Virginia Rolling Stone article (not to compare them to this or suggest that is what is happening here) victims won't be believed. It is a huge mistake to use an individual case as some basis for all or some other unrelated cases.

RIP I first learned who he was when I was watching a Saturday morning TV show called Hang Time and my Dad said "That's Dick Butkus" and I laughed because I thought he made the name up to be funny.

Harbaugh would probably kill…

Harbaugh would probably kill it with the Bears. Cold weather, passionate fans, team identity around running the ball and tough defense, plus a bit of history. Better fit than the Raiders, Chargers, or Falcons.
