7 years, those are rookie…

7 years, those are rookie numbers, Cam McCormick is pulling his 9th year.  Gotta bump those years up!

10 years ago I'd have…

10 years ago I'd have expected grad transfers to follow their coach, especially if they went to a big named school like UM.   However, now in the age of NIL and teams opening their wallets for hired guns I'll be surprised if they do.  Don't blame them either.

Man, I hope I'm wrong though.

Tell that to the people in…

Tell that to the people in the northern artic and northern tip of the Scandinavian countries who never had reliable internet that can now actually have medical files sent, email, use the internet to learn, and keep in touch with supply shipments in real time.   Yeah it may not affect you with your multitude of companies offering internet, but for them its a lifeline they've rarely, if ever, had.

Their loss.   If they can't…

Their loss.   If they can't see the value of NCAA XX stats then what else can you do really?

I'm one of those outliers…

I'm one of those outliers that didn't personally attend UM, being Canadian it just wasn't overly realistic in the 80's to think of US universities as opportunities.  However, I grew up surrounded by the block M, as far back as I can remember my Grandfather and Uncle would regularly wear something UM related.

Every Saturday growing up I'd watch cartoons until noon, then my Uncle and Grandfather would stop by to watch Michigan play on channel 13, sometimes we'd see Notre Dame as well on NBC, but it was primarily UM.   My Grandfather worked at the Michigan University campus, and my Uncle went there for a year or two.  All I know is it was a great bonding moment for the family cheering on Michigan as they told stories of games they watched and life in Ann Arbor.

I remember I could sing both verses of the The Victors well before I could sing normal French Canadian kids nursery rhymes like Frère Jacques, Alouette, or Au Clair de la Lune.

On an ending note, fuck all those people - especially the ones on here- that say I can't be a Michigan fan because I didn't go to the school.  I've been cheering for Michigan longer than some of them have been alive.

Some people just don't get…

Some people just don't get it, like how Auburn toilet papers their own trees after a win, and how MSU burns couches after a loss, and a win, and on a tuesday...

Social media feeds a…

Social media feeds a component of society that was never before seen until these group platforms became mainstream, the ability to not be held accountable for your words.   This gave people the opportunity to say whatever they wanted without the risk of getting punched in the mouth.

As a Penny Arcade comic once showed the John Gabriel's Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory:+

"Normal Person + Anonymity + Audience = Total Fuckwad"

Something about this tweet…

Something about this tweet is comes across as "I've just been threatened by lawyers for making claims about rumours as fact through conjecture and opinion, so I'm only going to report a fact and use the word alleged to cover my ass"

Especially since he went silent for 3 days.

Seems to me somebody got their pee-pee slapped.

I wasn't giving you a hard…

I wasn't giving you a hard time, I was genuinely curious as well. Thought I'd have some fun with the wording.

Not only does casual sports fan know about SignGate now, but seems like they all suddenly became a expert on rules, violations, and electronic monitoring.  I agree completely, W&C are going to carve through this without a care for what ESPN, TwitterX, or Bleacher Report says.

I was surprised to see that they lost some, even to actually take the Theranos gig when a few minutes in her files would show she was guilty, but I agree they probably helped in the sentencing, and also a high profile case can put your name in the media ever hour.

I just looked them up…

I just looked them up wondering this myself.

A couple of cases, nothing too big.  They represented...

- Barack Obama

- Defended President Clinton's Impeachment

- Represented Lieutenant  Colonel Oliver North during Iran-Contra Affair

- John Hinkley, would-be assassin of Ronald Regan

- Vioxx case in United States v Microsoft antitrust trial

- and most recently Elizabeth Holmes in the Theranos trail

Oh, and they're also corporate lawyers for Google, Disney, Samsung, Intel, BoA, and 21st Century Fox.... to name a few.

About a week ago I was…

About a week ago I was listening in on the drive to work, and not sure which one it was has pretty much judge jury executioner'd Jim Harbaugh and the Team.  Saying they're guilty, and pretty much was "end their season, vacate all of the last 2 years of wins, hang Harbaugh, I got a noose right here"

Most of the time I enjoy their show, but that one was so "don't care about evidence or investigation, they're guilty" and every guest that they had on that disagreed with them they got mad at.

Guess this is the way forward with ESPN towards anything non-SEC.

The question though is…

The question though is Minturn remorseful because of her actions, or because she got caught?

In the end I hope both of them accept the punishment they deserve, a punishment without emotion on either side that would make it either a slap on the wrist or a career death sentence.

Once that happens I also hope they both see the error of their ways, get help for the hate they feel towards another group, and rebound from this to become better people that they are both capable of.

Careful Icarus...

With that idea, and their…

With that idea, and their close proximity, maybe start sniffing north of the border and offer the Canadian universities an invite.  Travel time is great, of course border rules can cause hiccups, but Simon Fraser university football did it for a number of years, they played in the NIAI for nearly 40 years, eventually transferring to the NCAA in D2 before they couldn't find a conference and due to costs they cancelled the football program, but 18 other sports still play in the NCAA in the GNAC D2.

You can easily get half a dozen Universities up there that already have football and stadium contracts, sure they'll be Rutgers level of football for a few years but who knows what the future could hold.  Not like the Canadian November is much difference than a brisk Michigan November.

1. Blue. Since I live less than a mile from an airport, a bright maize house could potentially blind pilots when the sun is at the right angle, and if any of those pilots are tOSU grads....well it would make too tempting of a target to dump their toilet over.

2. Airport.   Stadium would bring you typical fans of whatever sport venue that is currently playing, limiting your people watching to a selective group, same goes for a concert, but an airport has a wide array of people to get a greater scale of enjoyment.

I wouldn't fret too much…

I wouldn't fret too much about it in the greater scope of things.  Sure ChatGPT can whip out a pretty good novel/screenplay easily, can hold a conversation online, or create an image you'd swear was a real picture of x celebrity walking down a street, but the end of it is this AI doesn't know what its doing, its just following a premade script.

When this AI writes the novel, it doesn't know what its writing, its just pulling data in sets that its told to, when chatting with people its pulling common answers to key words and has no idea what you're actually asking and what its actually responding, and the images have no meaning to them its just code processing.

I remember reading them say that we're 50 years from cognitive AI or human level machine intelligence (HLMI), and that is being generous.  The big issue is Intuitive Physics and One-Shot Learning.

Intuitive physics is the ability to predict, based on knowledge and experience, certain dynamic changes in our environment, then react to it.   Like seeing a ball fly up in the air and predicting where it will land in a matter of seconds before moving out of the way, with One Shot learning being able to do the same thing with only a few examples.  These two things are exceedingly difficult for AI.  Lets say to differentiate between an apple and orange, Children can tell the difference within a few examples, but it will take AI thousands of data sets and algorithms to even get remotely 10% of them correct.

Remember the computer that was designed for years to beat the best chess players in the world?  it was beaten with ease by average players who didn't play using traditional moves, or played using chaos.  This is because the AI isn't programmed to adapt, it can't, it's reliant on its structured code.

In the end, we are a long way from HLMI, a painfully long way, but maybe we should question when your kid makes an essay thats University quality in 30 minutes, or question that strange image of Nicholas Cage riding a Rhino..

Exactly, heck even Marty…

Exactly, heck even Marty McSorley was charged after bashing Donald Brashear in the head with a stick, and that was during the game!  While he was suspended for the season (and playoffs), he was also charged with assault with a weapon (Canadian court) , of course he only did 18 months of probation, but still.

After the conviction they extended his suspension for a full year, longest in NHL history for an on-ice incident.  He never played in the NHL again.

Again, this incident happened on the ice during a game, using your equipment to inflict harm on another person after the game is different, and IMO much worse.  The felony charge reflects it perfectly.

Watched an interview with…

Watched an interview with Taylor and he mentions a "floating" feeling and he remembers the ref telling him repeatedly not to move because Stephenson was unconscious on top of him.  He said it felt like minutes but was really only seconds.

Glad to see they both are doing well and have successful careers doing what they enjoy.

I still go into the MgoBBQ…

I still go into the MgoBBQ site and try something different every few weeks.  I'd love for it to be back a day or so before game day as an idea for something to whip up for Saturday.

I'd rather see Calgary win…

I'd rather see Calgary win it (being Canadian I'm kinda biased), because the only bad thing about having Toronto win the cup, is having to listen to all my Toronto Leafs fans gloat all year.

You know, a lot of people…

You know, a lot of people talk trash about Hot n Ready like its some no name 2 dollar pizza in the bottom corner of the supermarket, but for 6 bucks its damn good.

1) No idea on the score, I…

1) No idea on the score, I flip-flop with every blink of my eyes.  I'll say 42-24 UM, since 42 has been a safe number the last few games

2) A win will cause me to spend the next 3 hours refreshing MGOBLOG just for the chance to post "Wooooo", which of course won't take, so I'll hit the Save button over and over, only to realize the next day that it posted 14 times, but I'll take my downvotes with a smile!

A loss will cause me to congratulate the winner, prepare for the long off-season, and avoid MGOBLOG until at least tuesday, when the mods have had a chance to purge it of the new account trolls.

GO BLUE

Agree with your conclusion,…

Agree with your conclusion, disagree with how you described coming to it.

When the Baby Boomers entered the workforce at 16+ they could do it with a high school education, if that.  They got paid to train, got a decent salary that allowed them to work 40 hours a week, and that allowed them to get a car, a house, 3 square meals a day, insurance, and buy some toys and set up their retirement fund, while the spouse stayed home.  They worked hard because they knew if they went to unemployment they'd be screwed.  The boss gave bonuses at Christmas, and the trickle down economy worked.

Come to this new generation, for the same job they need a university degree, unpaid training, a salary that hasn't changed since the baby boomers got it even though cost of living has tripled or quadrupled and they are told to work 40+ hours a week, weekends, holidays, no paid overtime.  This job allows them to barely pay rent in a tiny apartment, get a bus pass, eat ramen noodles 3 meals a day, hope they don't get sick or injured, and laugh at the thought of a retirement fund when they still have nearly 50k in University debt to pay off.  The boss gets millions in bonuses if the company is profitable, and to make it profitable they will lay you off at a moments notice.

People today are tired.  They are tired working for pennies while their boss buys a second yacht.  They are tired of living in debt just to get by, and tired of being told they have no work ethic and are lazy.

"So, don't be a cheap ass…

"So, don't be a cheap ass and give $3.42..."

Not everyone has 40 dollars to donate, especially during the holiday season where money gets tight, so if they can only donate 3.42 because it won't break their budget they don't need to be shamed by you.   Its a nice thing you posted and definitely a worthy cause, but why follow it up with being an ass.

If you can only donate 2 bucks, then donate 2 bucks and know that every penny is going to a worthy cause.

I must say the article was way better than I expected.   Thought there would be more snide comments, pokes, and insults, but this was well written by someone who watched the game and wrote what they saw, not what their feelings told them.

Was a breath of fresh air after reading all the self-deprecating posts on here.  Surprising it had to come from a Buckeye.

There is a Chrome extension (not sure about Firefox) called "MGoBlog Enhancer" which allows you to "Add to Troll Cave" which ignores every comment from that person until you remove them from the list.   All you will see is their name and "Comment Hidden" or something similar.

It is summed up best in the angry OSU man-child flipping a double bird at the Oregon player celebrating in front of him after the interception.

Stay classy OSU.....

Even though OSU looked…

Even though OSU looked mortal, and Stroud showed a problem with overthrowing his receivers, they did make scoring look easy.  Not sure if this is because of the depth issues at Oregon but they took huge chunks of yards easily.

Early throws by Stroud look good as long as they are under 5 yrds, anything over seems to be well overhead.

"You hit the bingo card of asshole posts. Give people reason to shit on Harbaugh and team the day before the first game, and invite what I am sure will be a reasonable covid discussion. With that, I say, fuck off."

Oh man, its been a long ass…

Oh man, its been a long ass offseason and I cannot wait until tomorrows kickoff.   GO BLUE

I know its easy for us…

I know its easy for us sitting at home to debate this, but according to the NCAA targeting rules that apply to that hit specifically

  • Launch — a player leaving his feet to attack an opponent by an upward and forward thrust of the body to make forcible contact in the head or neck area
  • Leading with helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area
  • Lowering the head before attacking by initiating forcible contact with the crown of the helmet

That hit met each of those without question, it was to the side of the helmet, and at no time did he make an attempt to wrap his arms around the receiver and take him down.  Now, lets look at "Defenseless player" definition

When in question, a player is defenseless if:

  • A receiver attempting to catch a forward pass or in position to receive a backward pass, or one who has completed a catch and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a ball carrier.

So, with all that information I cannot sit by and say "naw, that was a clean hit" when it falls into direct violation of the targeting rule just because it looked good, and "but defenders still have to be able to play defense...."

Offset it with an upvote for…

Offset it with an upvote for honesty and necessity of a caffeine intake

Yeah, it could be viewed as…

Yeah, it could be viewed as clout chasing, but it can also impact other players getting NIL deals and they'll maybe follow suit donating a percentage to other local charities of their choice.  In the end, its a good move.

I appreciate the offer to…

I appreciate the offer to meet to grab it, but I think I'll stick with the delivery for this year.  Who knows whats gonna go on with the border over the next few months and "variants" popping up.

Just hoping to get to see a game this year in the Big House, last year was not possible (fortunately....) would love to at least see 1 this year, goal is 2.

While it used to be 30…

While it used to be 30 videos in 30 days "Countdown to Kickoff" that was the light at the end of the off-season tunnel, now its Hail to the Victors book that signals the end of the drought.   More than happy to back this year after year.

Unfortunately I have to go with "delivery" as with current border rules I won't be able to come down from Canada to pick one up, and who knows, maybe not even see a game live this year.

Also, I have a spare 2014, 2015, 2016 HTTV handy, so if anyone is missing one of those years and its driving them nuts to have that gap in their bookshelf, hit me up in a reply and we'll see about coordinating a send to you.  No cost of course.

Go Blue!

I watched both games last…

I watched both games last night, and will watch Friday and Saturday's games as well mostly because its football during a usual football drought.   Wasn't too bad and it kept me entertained for the most part.  No flashy lights, huge visual pop ups with every stat, none of that stuff, felt just like going to the local field to watch the local team play under the lights, except in a huge empty stadium.

The announcers, who were actually pretty good, explained that many players only got a week of practice with the team before the season started, so a lot of dropped passes, missed routes and assignments, QB yelling at players, and all that fun stuff.

Seeing Lewerke's kept me mad the entire Alphas vs Aviators game though, I will be a happy man when his name isn't on my screen anymore.

Overall it wasn't the best football I've seen, definitely not the worst, and I'll tune in to as many games as I can.

Had one in my shoulder and…

Had one in my shoulder and two in my knee, both relieved the issue immediately and I felt I could use the joint 100%, didn't need any time off but the doctor reminded me that cortisone isn't a cure, its a treatment to allow you to rehabilitate.  Cortisone can, and will, weaken tendons and other soft tissue.  So even though you feel fantastic, you've weakened the area and can cause serious issue if you don't treat the underlying cause of the inflammation.

Just my 10 cents worth (I'm Canadian, adjusting 2 cents for exchange rate and that we don't have pennies anymore)

Congrats gentlemen!  I wish…

Congrats gentlemen!  I wish you all a quick recovery and look forward to you disassembling the next opponent.
