"Northwestern fans can be both heartened and disheartened by the loss to Minnesota just like how nineteenth-century resurrectionists were heartened when they pried a heart from a freshly-buried corpse and then disheartened it when they sold it to a disreputable anatomist."

Correct. The regents would be stomping all over the President's authority if they openly called for Brandon's head. Bernstein's statement is about as strong of a stamp of disapproval that you'll get from the regents on this issue.
The president isn't going to put up with this shitstorm for much longer. I suspect they're already working with Brandon on his severence because everyone knows the writing's on the wall.

Get rid of the piped music completely. Stop trying to fill every second of downtime in football and basketball games with piped music, t-shirt canons,etc.
I also dislike the gigantic scoreboards, that mostly serve as huge distractions, but I'm sure they're here to stay.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||So, that would be a minimum||
So, that would be a minimum of a 60% price increase over 5 years. I think they were raised 30% in one year (this year or last, IIRC).
I recall 2 or 3 years ago Brandon saying something along the lines that if the students weren't showing up to the games, he'd find someone else who would. That would be a great quote to have on hand and really set the tone for the "special" relationship that he now has with the students.

I wish Brian had a few more grievences against Brandon to bring up. The noodle and spring practice stuff was pretty weak. Next time, I'd also bring up:
- The skywriting incident (where the pilot contradicts Brandon's statements)
- Monetizing the waitlist.
- HUGE price increases for student tickets. Emphasize the exact amount, I think it was somewhere around 30%.
I'm sure there are other good ones. And another larger point is that he makes the fans, and especially the students, feel like they're going through a shakedown everytime they attend a game. Brandon might be great with the current student-athletes and donors, but he treats the fans like crap and is openly hostile to the students.

No. Donors like Ross are going to have a little more influence over decisions, but if Michigan is giving him a veto on decisions, then that's on them, not on Ross.

If Schlissel wants to fire Brandon, the Regents are not going to get in his way. I think most Presidents would resign in a heartbeat if their board did not back them on such an important decision.

The modern day Ferry Field is only technically where Fielding Yost coached his Michigan teams, but all it really is now is an awkwardly placed grass field with a track around it with no charm or whiff of history to it.
The additional parking space is much needed and will make going to hockey, baseball and softball games much more convienent.

I don't like Goodell, but this is just a case of the media and politicians making sure they get their money's worth.
To me this seems pretty simple. Rice and his wife both said she attacked him first and he was defending himself. Goodell stupidly believed them and gave him a weak suspension. Not really much more to the story than that. I'm not buying any conspiracy since Rice was clearly on the downswing and not really ever a big draw anyway. Why protect him?
But we can now look forward to endless discussions on whether Goodell really did or did not see the video.
I'm guessing he resigns by Friday.

Not a big deal, but McGary's agent needs to give him a couple PR lessons. I realize McGary is justifiably bitter about his suspension, but "just don't get caught" is not a very smart thing to say in an interview. If McGary was LeBron, ESPN would probably devote 80% of their coverage over the next 48 hours to what was really just a dumb harmless joke.

Hmm, it says "presented by", not "sponsered by". Clearly our athletic department does not have the expertise to perform this analysis, so they contracted it out to the world's foremost experts in data analysis - Cadillac.

About a quarter of that list is highly suspect.

Doyle is expected to be a good shot blocker. If Wilson and him figure things out on defense quickly, Michigan could have 2 big time shot blocking threats on the court at times. That will be quite the change, even if they do not have Morgan's positioning. Of course, your concerns about foul trouble are legit.
The other big question is, can these guys rebound? From their HS tapes, I think so, but we'll see how they hold up in college.
|9 weeks 4 days ago||A lot to like in that video.||
A lot to like in that video. Irvin looks like he could be a legit 4, if need be. Holy crap did he get huge! Doyle shows more athleticism than advertised. Dawkins and MOAR both look very athletic. It seems like they defend with more intensity than they did in the games last year. All good signs.

I have trouble understanding how an offensive line with 2 senior offensive tackles, both NFL draft picks and a young, but talented, interior = WORST MICHIGAN OFFENSIVE LINE EVER.
Coaching? Maybe. Chemistry? Gotta say it's a very real possibliity.

Stanford's concern should be pretty obvious. If you let players sell their likeness, then the best players are even more likely to play at the highest profile schools.
Stanford, and really the entire PAC 10, would be huge losers in this regard. ND, Michigan and OSU would be the top recruiting powers, instead of the SEC schools (though they'd still do fine).
Really, Delany should be a big proponent of allowing players to sell their likeness.

I wonder if this is just the Regents reaction to the freep lawsuit, which is shining some very public light on their rubber stamping ways.
The other angle, of course, is that this reveals some serious discontent among the regents with Brandon. The Regents rejecting fireworks for a halftime show is totally ridiculous and should be viewed as a huge slap in the face to Brandon. I'm not a fireworks fan, and am glad they rejected them for after TDs during the PSU game, but the frickin' REGENTS rejecting fireworks during a halftime show is not about fireworks. It's about Dave Brandon.

Denzel's turned out better than average for a recruit in that range. Matt Castello is the better 4-star sparty recruit to pick on.

I thought Johansson played well though. Hard to say if the US is a better team with Jozy up there.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||It only takes a few bad||
It only takes a few bad apples to really create a hostile environment in a large group. If your team doesn't have leaders that can keep the bad apples in check, then you're going to have problems. If your leaders are the bad apples, then everyone is going to be miserable, and you'll likely have mutinous behavior, etc.
|19 weeks 2 days ago||That's all true, but I'm not||
That's all true, but I'm not sure if any of Beilein's recruits would have gone to MSU if Michigan was still terrible. I'm guessing maybe Walton, but that's about it. Irvin isn't really Izzo's kinda player. GRIII would have been just as likely to go to an Indiana school once he exploded on the scene. McGary would've gone to Duke. All the other guys are outside of midwest or not big enough recruits for Izzo (or previously for Izzo).
|19 weeks 2 days ago||What's interesting too is||
What's interesting too is that Beilein has never won a head-to-head recruiting battle against Izzo (although there's probably a few Izzo wishes he lost), so their decline in recruiting is mostly independent of Michigan's success.
|19 weeks 4 days ago||The only thing that seems||
The only thing that seems clearer is the reason why Lewan hasn't settled yet. The prosecution has a very shaky case. Nobody is going to believe the uber-drunk victims and Dileo's account doesn't really align with anyone elses, and she there's a possibility she's using this as some sort of revenge (not saying she is, but if you're a juror, you have to take that possibility into account).
|19 weeks 4 days ago||Well, that makes it clear as||
Well, that makes it clear as mud. Each person seemingly has a different version of events. Not sure how they get a conviction out of this. It all seems to rest on Miss Dileo's version of events, and whether a jury would view it as credible.
