Just in case, it may be time to start getting comfortable with the locution "Michigan Person."

After all, does anybody think Schlissel just realized today UM might be looking for a DB replacement?
If any current candidates were a woman, is it not plausible the word "person" would have been used instead of "man?"
I don't think there is anything harmful intended by the above post.
However, "Slip of the tongue" and "inadvertent" are pretty much the same thing. I still wouldn't expect to see 29 negs over a tautology like that.
|12 hours 56 min ago||Isn't DB||

I don't want an ugly divorce, but I just don't think DB was in this for the money or that he cares about severence.

I'm letting my EEE BARWIS little schoolgirl side out of the bag for this one.
I can say it now -- I wasn't that impressed by the Hoke introductory presser. It sounded to me like a bag full of empty slogans and mortally wounded sentence fragments. But I kept my mouth shut, until now. It might still be heresy.

Where are you quoting this from? For starters, it will bring this straw-man argument closer into the ballpark to say "or any other top defensive coordinator with whom RR had an established successful working relationship, which is part of the real issue. Contradicting this straw-man argument as stated really doesn't accomplish anything.
I believe the Casteel saga has already been treated at book length, but it doesn't look like you have read it. It might save time if you acquaint yourself with the documentary record before trying to set everyone else straight.
|1 day 6 hours ago||In 1998||
RR coached QB Shaun King to a 3495-passing-yard undefeated season at Tulane as OC and QB coach.
Mallet was already out the door in any case, but Lloyd steered QB recruit Weinke to Iowa, where he ultimately ended up trying out for kicker.
I don't know why both RR and Threet were so futile in 2008, but I see no reason to suppose RR didn't use Threet in accordance with whatever talents he might have shown. 2008 Michigan was destined to stink up whatever offensive system it attempted.
Crumbling defense, recruiting weakness were already lurking in the background; Freepgate and a nonstop uphill recruiting climate and whatever else turned M's trajectory into a tsunami of shit.
Maybe Schlissel is the change we really needed to finally get the ship rightside up again.

|1 day 18 hours ago||Au contraire;||
our clock management should get us a good part of the way toward no time left on the clock. He'll just have to do it from the M 3-yard line starting with 3 seconds left.
|1 day 18 hours ago||I always thought||
the proof that RR was the true Michigan Man to the end, as well as the complete anti-LLoyd, was that after the transition to Hoke, D-Rob and Gardner were both still in Ann Arbor rather than in Eugene.
No one knows what would happen in what-if world, but it's hard to escape speculating that D-Rob and Gardner both would have come out miles ahead somewhere other than here in Ann Arbor. This suggests that RR took the opposite tack from what Carr took with Mallette and Weinke (recruit), and hence showed UM much more class than UM ever showed with him. I still don't think he gets enough credit for smoothing the path to Hoke's first season; I also thought it was dubious to ditch anyone after only three years, but this has been discussed elsewhere. I think we have taken our lumps and should round the corner sometime soon, and I think RR is better off in Arizona for now.
Fortunately, Gardner is far more than just a brilliant HS QB prospect, and I think he'll find a deeper level of success overall due to the harder road he has been fated to travel.

Haven't seen this elsewhere, from comment section:
Smith et alia really brought the Falcons alive for a few years after the Vick/Petrino debacle; I haven't stayed clued in so I have no idea what happened since.
|2 days 11 hours ago||It may sound worse out of context.||
Or maybe not.
In the name of fairness, I might as well make a public show of my side of the interaction. (This was before RR's third year, when DB's main datapoint was the response to the Freep jihad. Four years later, Michael Rosenberg is in Hoke's office for a one-on-one interview, so, yeah, perspectives change. Not to get off-track.)

you can be persuaded to change the word "forever" to "until we get a proper AD and really qualified HC in the saddle."
I suppose you could argue that Bo's seven initial bowl losses were cold comfort to those who endured up-and-down years after 1951 hoping for a return of the Mad Magicians and annual MNC contention of the late '40s, yet we look back on it as a golden age and the beginning of the sellout-crowd era.
Watch our the boys in our colors stack up a few exciting and courageous victories in the next few years and see if the old feelings don't start coming back.
|2 days 13 hours ago||"I think . . .||
The waitlist was unharmed by 3-9. What nuked fan support was a continued shitty product combined by unmistakeable communication from the AD that it was, after just a product, and that the AD intended to soak every last penny out of anyone who was sucker enough to continue buying it. That is what we have to get out the door. A losing team deserves support; a predatory program hawking a shitty "brand" doesn't. Brandon has inserted himself between the fans and their team, and shat all over both.
I would replace the word "contrition" with "shift in tactics"; "contrition" would be the case if he had shown it four years ago, or at least before he became the cause of embarrasment to UM in the national press.

But back when, I remember commenting that Hoke would be the signpost of the Brandon era, either way.
I think when Brandon goes, the hostility engendered by his degradation of the game-day experience and four additional years of futility will go with it.
And I don't think we can afford to give any aid and comfort to anyone anywhere who might still nurture a hope that everything will just blow over and return to normal once the riled-up fans find another shiny object to obscess over.
|2 days 15 hours ago||I suppose||
Schlissel has the inside scoop on donors, regents, contract negotiations, etc., etc. etc. Your question can not be answered meaningfully without access to this inside info.
You should ask Schlissel.

MSC was here for three years while Brandon alienated the M fan base.
|4 days 5 hours ago||I checked --||
They played all their games in 1941.
After beating Stanford 49-0 in 1902, M didn't go to another bowl game until defeating USC 49-0 in 1948. M won its first four bowl games (all Rose Bowls) and then lost its first seven bowls under Bo Schembechler.
The 1941 team is overshadowed by the 1940 team (Harmon). They beat MSU, tied OSU, and lost to Minnesota. Minnesota was a major rival to UM in the '40s when they played the same spoiler role as did Chicago in the aughts of the 20th century.
As far as I know, they did not then call it "Team 62."

I also assume that vindication in this case won't give him impunity for any future transgressions.

Actually, that was Brandon's idea, and I was against it at the time, mostly because I didn't want Michigan to become what ND had become before they got better again and stomped us 31-0.
So actually, that is another point against Brandon.
I'm aware there are factions. Some of those factions are willing to betray the current team, the coach and the program, going as far as conspiring with opportunistic and unprincipled journalists in order to sabotage Michigan football in order to pursue their partisan objectives. (It would be nice to see these unprincipled journalists iced out of the AD and true advocates of the program, like JU Bacon, welcomed, rather than the other way around.)

|4 weeks 1 day ago||I ditto.||
I saw the following attributed to B. Cooke:
"At Alabama, this is an aberration. It Michigan, it's a pattern."
The three days of apparent cover-up attempts prior to the Schlissel statement made it worse. This is the real topic of discussion: why we can't address a fuck-up and move on like a normal competant AD.
|4 weeks 1 day ago||It appears||
we have conflicting goals here.
|4 weeks 1 day ago||I think||
that is more accurately subtitled as "Do not want."
|4 weeks 1 day ago||RR's smooth||
transition to Hoke helped make 11-2 possible.
He might also have screwed Gardner's career by not telling him to run as fast as possible from Hoke's coaching staff. This is the opposite of what Carr did with QB recruit Weinke.
RR had no selfish reasons to want to help us out.
Lloyd, on the other hand . . . .
|4 weeks 2 days ago||My bad --||
I was thinking of a recruit, Scout #21 and Rival #14 QB Weinke.
Weinke "played sparingly" and competed for punter his senior season at Iowa. I wonder if he would have done better with M starting in '08?
|4 weeks 2 days ago||What if RR||

Gardner, for one, would be a lot better off these days.
|4 weeks 2 days ago||You||

were the Lloyd's 5th-column spys who fed Michael Rosenberg the idea for his "do you have any idea what countable hours are" football-season-opening 2009 "stretchgate" "exposé."
I am ashamed to admit that, after seeing bitter denunciations on rival sites, I investigated a Brandon-suckhole Rosenberg piece at SI. I was prepared for sickness, but I was not prepared for the bitterness and sense of betrayal I felt when I read the first sentence of Rosenberg's as-always infantile and faithless text:
"This summer, I sat in Brady Hoke’s office to discuss the state of his Michigan football program."
IN JEST, I propose that this is a firing offense right there.
|4 weeks 2 days ago||True Mallett.||
Nobody has brought up the transfers incident, though.
If RR had wanted to treat Hoke the way Lloyd treated him, he could have screwed us badly. Imagine DRob finishing up at Oregon, or wherever but here. The smoothness of the RR-Hoke transition, or for that matter, the Bump-Bo transition in '69, gives us an idea of the type of class and sense of responsibility to the program we were looking for from LLoyd in '07 after years of doing things the "Michigan Way."
The depth of the character he displayed at that point is indirectly (inversely?) measured by the depth of the shit we are in now.
|4 weeks 2 days ago||The compendium of instances||

I'm not sure I follow your apparent central point:

I have to differ on that. In fact, that's where the guts of the problem appear to be, although not just on Hoke.

we need to go directly to the doctor's testimony.
|4 weeks 3 days ago||That's what I always thought.||
One of the recent articles on the Morris "incident" appeared to reverse the timing, as per OP, so I looked it up.
According to an AnnArbor.com article, of January 5, 2010, Brandon served as Chairman and CEO of Domino's up until he was appointed AD on that date; he continues to be connected with Dominos per WIKI. A WaPo article of January 13, 2010 (Wednesday) states that the mea culpa campaign started "this week." It appears he must have been the one behind it, although the timing furnishes the OP and others an attractive narrative.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||Seems like old times . . .|
|4 weeks 4 days ago||Captioned incorrectly.||
Should be "Do not want."
|4 weeks 4 days ago||"Michigan"||
has an "i," or, technically, two.
Do you mean "exactly one 'i?'"
|4 weeks 4 days ago||I'll||
walk to Ann Arbor.
To be fair, the last time I was in Ann Arbor, I always got picked last on every team.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||Same is true||
for the un-named predecessor as well.
I've always wondered. Does "predecessor" mean "one who died before you," or am I misreading the etymology?
|4 weeks 4 days ago||Too much going on right now.||
Time to forfeit.
We'll make it up to you later, somehow, Rutgers.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||Morris||
was visibly wobbly after a severe head shot.
If Hoke isn't up to it, SOMEONE needs to intervene and get him off the field for a timely evaluation.
If Hoke has no recollection of a conversation with anyone about a evaluation, then it means that no-one intervened on Morris' behalf in a situation that clearly warranted it.
If this is the way it is everywhere, then CFB is extremely lucky not to have been sued into oblivion by now.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||I know this isn't the main point,||
but doesn't this mess seriously with one of either UConn or Boston College?
I suppose our desperation outweighs anything that may happen to them, but . . . .
|4 weeks 4 days ago||Not to be pedantic,||
but I think that is him famously vandalizing a cease-and-desist order from Subway after he had MicroSoft-Windowed one of their sub recipes.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Sorry to switch cultural references||
in the middle of a metaphor, but
when do we get back control of our TV sets?
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Hoke||
stole the thunder.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||There was||
the Urban-Tebow incident a few years back, and there was another during a M-ND game a couple years back. There was a noise, and then it went away; life went on.
But, as a general rule, I don't think it is possible for shit this egregious to happen on a team well-coached enough to be undefeated in the first place. There is simply no way this discussion could be taking place if the coaching was competent enough to meet the proviso for your argument.
This has now gone from being toxic to M football to being a threat to the safety of the players in the program. It is time to stop the devolutionary carnage.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Heaven forgive me for saying this.||
Maybe this will get the NCAA involved. Maybe this will insure that DB doesn't ride this one out.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||You might want to move||
to Western Ohio; it is a more solid OSU environment.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||"Jump down Hoke's throat"||
is a vague formulation somewhat on the safe side.
For comparison, I'm pretty sure we "jumped down Hoke's throat" last year after 27-for-27 at PSU; this is clearly a different category of complaint.
I'm sure there will be more as this developes.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||I think||
that's skirting the "no politics" rule.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||"And DB will be dismissed before the end of the year."||
I guess that's worth posting twice.
Your word in God's ear.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||By "glasses," do you mean||
|4 weeks 5 days ago||If you don't mind||
Firefox(R) freezing your computer, use it with Ad-Block Plus.
I haven't seen a You-Tube ad in ages.
On the other hand, I have to turn off the power at the power strip every 20 minutes to regain control of the computer (OS[u]X).
|4 weeks 5 days ago||I think||
by then we will have had a complete heat death of the universe, if Hoke and Brandon are still here.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Whoops.||
Nor am I.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||"I know things were awful under RR,"||
but not in this way.
RR sat Hagelin against OSU for the sake of team discipline, and avoided burning Devin Gardner's redshirt even as his job was on the line.
We still don't know what RR's role in the Gibbons fiasco was, but does anybody think that in 2009 Gibbons was such a prize that a coach would twist rules for the sake of having access to his proven skills?
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Kipke||
led M to to consecutive MNCs early in his career, then to the (T-) worst season in M history in 1934 (Gerald Ford's team). (I'm sorry, but for the mathematically challenged among you, 1-7 is worse than 3-9.)
That year, the student body was wrent down the middle when M pulled its black players from a home game (A - 20,901) to meet the demands of visiting Ga. Tech. (Gerald Ford had to be talked out of boycotting that game.) This was M's sole victory that year.
Kipke tied his 1934 mark two years later. He was back up to .500 by the time he was fired for violating Big Ten rules and possibly for cavorting with gangsters themselves associated with Henry Ford and his violent suppression of labor unionism.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||"You're."||
I know times are intense, but this is still Michigan.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Their site||
is advertising 5 home games for $72.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||I think||
there's too much circumstantial evidence that Lloyd was behind pulling down the program starting with the coaching search in '07.
I don't want him put in a position where he can reprise his role in first getting RR hired, and then sabotaging him.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Yes.||
Yes. Yes. Please yes.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Couldn't resist.|
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Nice||
to see you 'round these parts.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Brandon||
CANNOT be around for the next coach search.
Schlissel is going to have to get involved.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||I sort of like||
Nebraska and Penn State.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||At last||
someone is asking the right questions.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Goes back further than that.||
If rumors posted elsewhere here are halfway correct, Lloyd told Bill Martin not to get Miles, and then Brandon didn't want a coach who would overshadow him and didn't approach Miles or Harbaugh in any serious way.
Since then, RR was fine at UWV and, depending on the outcome of tonight's game at Oregon, good or very good at Arizona despite looking a fool here.
Shafer did better after leaving here.
Gerg didn't appear hopeless when brought in as DC at Texas after the UM debacle.
Gibson doesn't appear hopeless at Arizona.
And actually, Hoke seemed to be getting better at SDSU.
Look at the waste of 5*s here.
It's a pit. Some of the problems must be hidden. It's hard to take pride in anything around the football program these days.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||How did this staff||
beat Nebraska 41-17 in 2011?
Hoke seemed so focused back then. I can't believe it's the same guy.
BTW. F*** D. Brandon. He needs to go first.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Actually,||
we have the talent.
But it is hard to tell.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Beat me to it.||
You, and three "502 Gateways."
|4 weeks 6 days ago||The problem is||
that, for football purposes, "Michigan Man" is being defined by the mental and moral midgets that inflicted the last 7 years of misery on us.
Before we look for another "Michigan Man," we need to rid ourselves of the self-styled "Michigan Men."
|4 weeks 6 days ago||"Should demand that Dave Brandon personally calls"||
from his new job scrubbing toilets at Domino's.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Whew.||
That was a close one.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||This has to be||
a really pleasing win for the Gophers.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||ND||
tried a similar move with Gerry Faust.
BTW, wouldn't it be nice to be good enough to say "We have become ND?"
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Sort of||
Certainly Brandon and Hoke both have to go, at this point.
And if rumors are correct, once this is accomplished, we can now have nice things that have been denied to us since '08.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Sort of||

|4 weeks 6 days ago||"Rage or ennui? Who gives a fuck!"||
Actually, that is modelling ennui.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||I like the verb||
You need a functioning AD to "kiffin."
First we need to "kiffen" the AD.
Schlissel, are you getting any of this?
|4 weeks 6 days ago||David Brandon||
needs to go first.
He should not be allowed another opportunity to further annihilate the culture and tradition of 130 years of Michigan football.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Rumor has it||
that Lloyd's behind-the-scenes perfidy is why we don't already have Miles or Harbaugh (I have mixed feelings about this one, but anyway)as of '08 or at least '11, and part of why the RR regime crashed and burned.
I hope that when Brandon and Hoke are swept out the door, that there is a gracious way to get this inscrutable saboteur out the door as well.
|5 weeks 10 hours ago||I don't think||
Brandon sees a low profile for an AD as a virtue to be cultivated.
I wonder how this will all play out for his gubernatorial ambitions?
|5 weeks 10 hours ago||I wonder||
if Popular Mechanics will have instructions on how to Fix It?
Although, hopefully not in the manner of Jimmy Saville. (Speaking of Penn State.)
|5 weeks 10 hours ago||I think||
an article on the Pravda.ru English site would be a powerful acknowledgement of Brandon's success in creating "buzz" around the program.
Is it possible that Brandon was actually referring to the sound made by flies feasting on dead flesh?
|5 weeks 10 hours ago||How about||
a dramatic re-enactment, with extra Wow Factor, of the Decline and Fall of David Brandon?
|5 weeks 10 hours ago||It is the insight||
that a reading audience half as big as that of Ladies' Home Journal now knows what a headache Brandon is to us.
|5 weeks 10 hours ago||Not yet --||
Before you go, don't you want to see a post I found ripping us on 11 Warriors Tuesday?
|5 weeks 10 hours ago||Reading comprehension problems||
are a form of denial.
These are people who want to believe that if you just give them time, Brandon and Hoke will deliver an MNC in year (whatever year it is + 2).
|5 weeks 11 hours ago||While we're||
redesigning the NCAA, can we shitcan the 19th-century elitist BS about "amateurism" as well?
If I pursue a music degree under scholarship, I still get to play payed gigs while I'm not in class. What the fuck business is it of the NCAA what a guy does while he's not in class or at practice?
I know this isn't happening, but all this hypocrisy annoys me.
|5 weeks 11 hours ago||So||
if you go 11-2 against a cupcake schedule you are an elite team, and if you go 2-11 against an elite schedule, you are still an elite team?
If you had tried that same argument 4 years ago in behalf of RR getting a fourth year, the reaction wouldn't have been pretty.
|5 weeks 5 days ago||We can compare||
performances against Utah on November 22.
