and everyone would be happy happy."
Actually, that was Brandon's idea, and I was against it at the time, mostly because I didn't want Michigan to become what ND had become before they got better again and stomped us 31-0.
So actually, that is another point against Brandon.
I'm aware there are factions. Some of those factions are willing to betray the current team, the coach and the program, going as far as conspiring with opportunistic and unprincipled journalists in order to sabotage Michigan football in order to pursue their partisan objectives. (It would be nice to see these unprincipled journalists iced out of the AD and true advocates of the program, like JU Bacon, welcomed, rather than the other way around.)
Do you not see how you undercut your own argument?

Oops, I mean "probable, mild concussion."

two years of 7-6 represents at least a temporary halt to his downward trajectory, a sort of critical point.
How many years can he go 7-6 and still say he is turning it around?

31-0 is a blowout loss, and 30-14 to Minnesota at home is unless semantics.
Or do you mean more of them?

Especially after firing the predecessor after only three seasons.
If we're going to be fair, let's not just include the good things, like gutting the non-yes-men in the AD, alienating the fans, debasing the game-day experience, and treating the whole thing like his own personal playground.
|1 week 6 days ago||I wonder||
if the Daily will print "Daily screws up" as a story because it appeared here as an OP?

for Hoke to realize Brandon was sucking his guts out.
Film study, Woow Factor, Unimformz.
Brandon said early on that football was the goose with the golden eggs, and that he was going to focus on it.
Maybe this is the outcome of an egoistic know-nothing giving the football program his brand of TLC.
I may be going delusional here, but could Brandon have mandated Bo-era style ball on his handpicked coach in his dream job?

the "intersex" door?
I admit I had to tear myself away from contemplating the medical, human rights and social implications of the following from the WIKI article:
Depending on standards of definition, it appears this population is between 0.1% and 1.5% of the total.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||I ditto.||
I saw the following attributed to B. Cooke:
"At Alabama, this is an aberration. It Michigan, it's a pattern."
The three days of apparent cover-up attempts prior to the Schlissel statement made it worse. This is the real topic of discussion: why we can't address a fuck-up and move on like a normal competant AD.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||It appears||
we have conflicting goals here.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||I think||
that is more accurately subtitled as "Do not want."
|2 weeks 5 days ago||RR's smooth||
transition to Hoke helped make 11-2 possible.
He might also have screwed Gardner's career by not telling him to run as fast as possible from Hoke's coaching staff. This is the opposite of what Carr did with QB recruit Weinke.
RR had no selfish reasons to want to help us out.
Lloyd, on the other hand . . . .
|2 weeks 6 days ago||My bad --||
I was thinking of a recruit, Scout #21 and Rival #14 QB Weinke.
Weinke "played sparingly" and competed for punter his senior season at Iowa. I wonder if he would have done better with M starting in '08?
|2 weeks 6 days ago||What if RR||
had taken that slant with D-Rob and Gardner?
Gardner, for one, would be a lot better off these days.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||You||
should try it again now.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||The folks who "blew up the fort"||
were the Lloyd's 5th-column spys who fed Michael Rosenberg the idea for his "do you have any idea what countable hours are" football-season-opening 2009 "stretchgate" "exposé."
I am ashamed to admit that, after seeing bitter denunciations on rival sites, I investigated a Brandon-suckhole Rosenberg piece at SI. I was prepared for sickness, but I was not prepared for the bitterness and sense of betrayal I felt when I read the first sentence of Rosenberg's as-always infantile and faithless text:
"This summer, I sat in Brady Hoke’s office to discuss the state of his Michigan football program."
IN JEST, I propose that this is a firing offense right there.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||True Mallett.||
Nobody has brought up the transfers incident, though.
If RR had wanted to treat Hoke the way Lloyd treated him, he could have screwed us badly. Imagine DRob finishing up at Oregon, or wherever but here. The smoothness of the RR-Hoke transition, or for that matter, the Bump-Bo transition in '69, gives us an idea of the type of class and sense of responsibility to the program we were looking for from LLoyd in '07 after years of doing things the "Michigan Way."
The depth of the character he displayed at that point is indirectly (inversely?) measured by the depth of the shit we are in now.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||The compendium of instances||
is nice to have in one place.
I'm not sure I follow your apparent central point:
I think not being "high-and-mighty" is good advice for anybody at any time.
Until you are more specific about how you mean it in regards to the Morris incident, though, it sounds like you are saying "Shut up about Morris because concussions just happen."
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Thank you||
|2 weeks 6 days ago||How do you really feel, Mrs. Canham?||
|2 weeks 6 days ago||I'll think we'll be fine when Brandon leaves.||
But I've started distancing myself from appeals to authority through proverbs, as in "Look before you leap/He who hesitates is lost." In that vein, we have:
Death by a thousand cuts.
Chinese water torture.
Heat death of the universe.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||"Or loyalty is more important than performance in Hoke's||
heirarchy of needs."
Change "Hoke" to "Brandon," and this exactly explains his hire in the first place.
I wonder if there is a recursive element to this institutional failure? It seems like a metaphor for the times.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||From the outside looking in,||
these kids seem well-instructed (off the field, at least).
I don't know if this is a part of their instruction set, but they do seem to avoid any ringing endorsements.
Their performance is, I think, in its way, a Schlissel-level performance. I think they are getting an education of sorts.
|3 weeks 11 hours ago||The real opposite||
of love is apathy.
|3 weeks 21 hours ago||"was corrected pretty quickly."||
I have to differ on that. In fact, that's where the guts of the problem appear to be, although not just on Hoke.
Someone quoted Canham elsewhere on the board: "Never turn a one-day problem into a two-day problem." Or four- and counting.
|3 weeks 21 hours ago||Is that all you've got?||
|3 weeks 21 hours ago||"What did the President know, and when did he know it?"||
I believe that was Howard Baker's line.
|3 weeks 21 hours ago||As I hear it,||
they favor "guidelines" over enforceble rules. The critics say they try to keep things vague in order to minimize potential liability for the NCAA and member schools, and then just hope nothing horrible happens.
A successful lawsuit, of course, can change everything.
|3 weeks 21 hours ago||It's like -palooza.||
It's a form of metaphorical annointment of a scandal that has come of age. If you try to stop a natural human behavior lke this, it'll turn out like Prohibition.
But I don't think you should feel like you have to do it if you don't want to.
|3 weeks 22 hours ago||In the activist world,||
that's what we call "networking."
You can also call it "leveraging."
|3 weeks 22 hours ago||For starters,||
we need to go directly to the doctor's testimony.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||That's what I always thought.||
One of the recent articles on the Morris "incident" appeared to reverse the timing, as per OP, so I looked it up.
According to an AnnArbor.com article, of January 5, 2010, Brandon served as Chairman and CEO of Domino's up until he was appointed AD on that date; he continues to be connected with Dominos per WIKI. A WaPo article of January 13, 2010 (Wednesday) states that the mea culpa campaign started "this week." It appears he must have been the one behind it, although the timing furnishes the OP and others an attractive narrative.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Seems like old times . . .|
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Captioned incorrectly.||
Should be "Do not want."
|3 weeks 1 day ago||"Michigan"||
has an "i," or, technically, two.
Do you mean "exactly one 'i?'"
|3 weeks 1 day ago||I'll||
walk to Ann Arbor.
To be fair, the last time I was in Ann Arbor, I always got picked last on every team.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Same is true||
for the un-named predecessor as well.
I've always wondered. Does "predecessor" mean "one who died before you," or am I misreading the etymology?
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Too much going on right now.||
Time to forfeit.
We'll make it up to you later, somehow, Rutgers.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Morris||
was visibly wobbly after a severe head shot.
If Hoke isn't up to it, SOMEONE needs to intervene and get him off the field for a timely evaluation.
If Hoke has no recollection of a conversation with anyone about a evaluation, then it means that no-one intervened on Morris' behalf in a situation that clearly warranted it.
If this is the way it is everywhere, then CFB is extremely lucky not to have been sued into oblivion by now.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||I know this isn't the main point,||
but doesn't this mess seriously with one of either UConn or Boston College?
I suppose our desperation outweighs anything that may happen to them, but . . . .

but I think that is him famously vandalizing a cease-and-desist order from Subway after he had MicroSoft-Windowed one of their sub recipes.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||Sorry to switch cultural references||
in the middle of a metaphor, but
when do we get back control of our TV sets?
|3 weeks 2 days ago||Hoke||
stole the thunder.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||There was||
the Urban-Tebow incident a few years back, and there was another during a M-ND game a couple years back. There was a noise, and then it went away; life went on.
But, as a general rule, I don't think it is possible for shit this egregious to happen on a team well-coached enough to be undefeated in the first place. There is simply no way this discussion could be taking place if the coaching was competent enough to meet the proviso for your argument.
This has now gone from being toxic to M football to being a threat to the safety of the players in the program. It is time to stop the devolutionary carnage.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||Heaven forgive me for saying this.||
Maybe this will get the NCAA involved. Maybe this will insure that DB doesn't ride this one out.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||You might want to move||
to Western Ohio; it is a more solid OSU environment.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||"Jump down Hoke's throat"||
is a vague formulation somewhat on the safe side.
For comparison, I'm pretty sure we "jumped down Hoke's throat" last year after 27-for-27 at PSU; this is clearly a different category of complaint.
I'm sure there will be more as this developes.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||I think||
that's skirting the "no politics" rule.

RR sat Hagelin against OSU for the sake of team discipline, and avoided burning Devin Gardner's redshirt even as his job was on the line.
We still don't know what RR's role in the Gibbons fiasco was, but does anybody think that in 2009 Gibbons was such a prize that a coach would twist rules for the sake of having access to his proven skills?
|3 weeks 2 days ago||Kipke||
led M to to consecutive MNCs early in his career, then to the (T-) worst season in M history in 1934 (Gerald Ford's team). (I'm sorry, but for the mathematically challenged among you, 1-7 is worse than 3-9.)
That year, the student body was wrent down the middle when M pulled its black players from a home game (A - 20,901) to meet the demands of visiting Ga. Tech. (Gerald Ford had to be talked out of boycotting that game.) This was M's sole victory that year.
Kipke tied his 1934 mark two years later. He was back up to .500 by the time he was fired for violating Big Ten rules and possibly for cavorting with gangsters themselves associated with Henry Ford and his violent suppression of labor unionism.

|3 weeks 3 days ago||I think||
there's too much circumstantial evidence that Lloyd was behind pulling down the program starting with the coaching search in '07.
I don't want him put in a position where he can reprise his role in first getting RR hired, and then sabotaging him.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Yes.||
Yes. Yes. Please yes.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Couldn't resist.|

|3 weeks 3 days ago||I sort of like||
Nebraska and Penn State.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||At last||
someone is asking the right questions.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Goes back further than that.||
If rumors posted elsewhere here are halfway correct, Lloyd told Bill Martin not to get Miles, and then Brandon didn't want a coach who would overshadow him and didn't approach Miles or Harbaugh in any serious way.
Since then, RR was fine at UWV and, depending on the outcome of tonight's game at Oregon, good or very good at Arizona despite looking a fool here.
Shafer did better after leaving here.
Gerg didn't appear hopeless when brought in as DC at Texas after the UM debacle.
Gibson doesn't appear hopeless at Arizona.
And actually, Hoke seemed to be getting better at SDSU.
Look at the waste of 5*s here.
It's a pit. Some of the problems must be hidden. It's hard to take pride in anything around the football program these days.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||How did this staff||
beat Nebraska 41-17 in 2011?
Hoke seemed so focused back then. I can't believe it's the same guy.
BTW. F*** D. Brandon. He needs to go first.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Actually,||
we have the talent.
But it is hard to tell.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Beat me to it.||
You, and three "502 Gateways."
|3 weeks 3 days ago||The problem is||
that, for football purposes, "Michigan Man" is being defined by the mental and moral midgets that inflicted the last 7 years of misery on us.
Before we look for another "Michigan Man," we need to rid ourselves of the self-styled "Michigan Men."
|3 weeks 3 days ago||"Should demand that Dave Brandon personally calls"||

BTW, wouldn't it be nice to be good enough to say "We have become ND?"
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Sort of||
Certainly Brandon and Hoke both have to go, at this point.
And if rumors are correct, once this is accomplished, we can now have nice things that have been denied to us since '08.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Sort of||

|3 weeks 3 days ago||"Rage or ennui? Who gives a fuck!"||
Actually, that is modelling ennui.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||I like the verb||
You need a functioning AD to "kiffin."
First we need to "kiffen" the AD.
Schlissel, are you getting any of this?
|3 weeks 3 days ago||David Brandon||
needs to go first.
He should not be allowed another opportunity to further annihilate the culture and tradition of 130 years of Michigan football.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Rumor has it||
that Lloyd's behind-the-scenes perfidy is why we don't already have Miles or Harbaugh (I have mixed feelings about this one, but anyway)as of '08 or at least '11, and part of why the RR regime crashed and burned.
I hope that when Brandon and Hoke are swept out the door, that there is a gracious way to get this inscrutable saboteur out the door as well.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||I don't think||
Brandon sees a low profile for an AD as a virtue to be cultivated.
I wonder how this will all play out for his gubernatorial ambitions?
|3 weeks 4 days ago||I wonder||
if Popular Mechanics will have instructions on how to Fix It?
Although, hopefully not in the manner of Jimmy Saville. (Speaking of Penn State.)
|3 weeks 4 days ago||I think||
an article on the Pravda.ru English site would be a powerful acknowledgement of Brandon's success in creating "buzz" around the program.
Is it possible that Brandon was actually referring to the sound made by flies feasting on dead flesh?
|3 weeks 4 days ago||How about||
a dramatic re-enactment, with extra Wow Factor, of the Decline and Fall of David Brandon?
|3 weeks 4 days ago||It is the insight||
that a reading audience half as big as that of Ladies' Home Journal now knows what a headache Brandon is to us.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Not yet --||
Before you go, don't you want to see a post I found ripping us on 11 Warriors Tuesday?
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Reading comprehension problems||
are a form of denial.
These are people who want to believe that if you just give them time, Brandon and Hoke will deliver an MNC in year (whatever year it is + 2).
|3 weeks 4 days ago||While we're||
redesigning the NCAA, can we shitcan the 19th-century elitist BS about "amateurism" as well?
If I pursue a music degree under scholarship, I still get to play payed gigs while I'm not in class. What the fuck business is it of the NCAA what a guy does while he's not in class or at practice?
I know this isn't happening, but all this hypocrisy annoys me.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||So||
if you go 11-2 against a cupcake schedule you are an elite team, and if you go 2-11 against an elite schedule, you are still an elite team?
If you had tried that same argument 4 years ago in behalf of RR getting a fourth year, the reaction wouldn't have been pretty.
|4 weeks 3 days ago||We can compare||
performances against Utah on November 22.
|4 weeks 3 days ago||In all likelihood,|

are all over it by now.
A screenshot is preserved at CollegeSpun.
|4 weeks 3 days ago||Coming from "UMForLife,"||
that is a funny comment.
|4 weeks 3 days ago||Although||
Lloyd might still do it.
|6 weeks 2 days ago||Most of the "breakdowns"||
in our much-maligned RR-era defense started with his vaunted O handing the ball over to quality opponents on the M side of the field and generally just not keeping up, or frequently, against opponents like MSU/'10 or Wiscy/'10, just never really showing up at all.
I say this as one of those people who thought ditching RR after three years would only consolidate our progress toward becoming the tire fire ND was for 20 years before hiring Kelley. Hope I'm wrong, but it is six years and counting.
|6 weeks 2 days ago||There is something unsettling||
about weaving dreams out of reports that Harbaugh isn't getting along with his players. It seems like a first step in the wrong direction.
|6 weeks 2 days ago||Poz||
for Groucho Marx reference.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||Makes me||
want to punch a dolphin.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||Last night's game||
just didn't put me in the mood.
Besides which, I watched it at a night club, and I don't think the employees and other patrons would have stood for it.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||You have||
to HEAR it.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||"You're Fired (tm)."||
How about making a reality show out of M's next AD and football HC hires? I'll bet they would make great TV; if life hands you lemons . . . .
|6 weeks 3 days ago||I never liked the idea||
of un-retiring numbers after 70 years in the first place.
It seems to defeat the point of retiring them.
What's wrong with letting an outstanding player newly immortalize whatever number they happen to be wearing?
That said, let's not do anything with numbers already in play this year; 37-0 is enough of a psychological hurdle to get over.
But this business of not being able to tell any more if a retired number is retired or not just shows that David Brandon doesn't get it, doesn't understand the tradition and isn't a real Michigan man (ducks).
|6 weeks 3 days ago||I bet I could;||
but if I try, it hurts.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||I like wanking||
to the '95 and '96 OSU games, myself.
I can't do it for too long, though, because the computer starts to look like a freshly-toasted Pop Tart and I can't see the game.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||That is very Zen.||
Or fucked-up; I don't know which.
I don't know if it matters which it is.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||Well,||
can we spread the UFR over 50 days?
|6 weeks 3 days ago||Tsar Bomba,||
|6 weeks 3 days ago||After the jabs at Hart in '07,||
it hurts to say this, but how about Dantonio AND Narduzzi?
|6 weeks 3 days ago||I must have asked this before,||
but how do you steal a firepit?
|6 weeks 3 days ago||Sarcasm||
doesn't seem to work as well these days, although it has always been a calculated risk.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||Always wait 4 hours||
after sustaining blunt force trauma before trying to extrapolate the future.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||Except||
for identifiable individual failures, the o-line seemed actually not hopeless.
I was actually at a loss to understand how we went down 37-0.
I have to go away now and let this sink in.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||Poz||
for Highway 61 Revisited reference.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||I will||
PLUCK YOUR BEAK!
|6 weeks 3 days ago||I think "Counterpunt"||
is obligated to contradict "Punt." It's like a class debate.
I'm sure Heiko doesn't believe a word of what he said; he's just making a convincing argument for the improbable.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||"Alouette"||
is also a word for "small lark," as in the eponymous children's song ("Je te plumerais").
I learned the words to the song at Thurston elementary ca. 1967, which was also the year of Expo '67 in Montreal. Based on this slim evidence, I'm going to venture that "alouette" was a lyric in a francophone children's song before it was the name of a creamy cheese spread in Montreal, but I welcome better-informed observations.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||Ditto||
for the beginning of the AstroTurf era, 1969.
|6 weeks 5 days ago||I agreed with him||
for the most part RE Michael Rosenberg, but I'm not sure he ever made the distinction between an educational institution administrative action and a criminal proceeding.
|6 weeks 5 days ago||I make my excuse for a living||
with my fingers, so I had to say something --
I've heard too many horror stories to EVER stick my fingers inside a blender while it is still plugged in. Better to damage the blender or a spoon than to accomplish a digitectomy.
That aside, Bravo.
|6 weeks 5 days ago||I still||
don't quite see Michigan going undefeated.
As Teddy Kennedy used to say, we'll drive off that bridge when we get to it. (National Lampoon joke; I'm not expressing any partisan affiliation beyond that for Michigan.)
|6 weeks 5 days ago||"Accept"||
is spelled correctly.
When referring to someone else's usage of it, you should probably wrap it in quotation marks.
I would only call it "accurate" if it was functioning as an adjective.
|6 weeks 5 days ago||This is where||
I learn all my current events.
|6 weeks 5 days ago||Yup.||
It's especially satisfying to see other comedy professionals thoroughly annihilated by a performance like this one.
|6 weeks 5 days ago||And if||
you're T Rex or Bing Crosby, don't sing with David Bowie.
|7 weeks 19 hours ago||Now that's||
a long-ago reference. I am intrigued to see how anyone under 50+ dug that one up.
FWIW, that's about the last thing he said before pardoning Nixon.
|7 weeks 19 hours ago||"Smart Football on the MSU defense||
is going to be worth your time."
If nothing else, for this stroll down UM memory lane:
|7 weeks 1 day ago||I||
had to google.
FWIW, via VMI; we have the following:
|7 weeks 3 days ago||Either||
the sarcasm has developed to a razor-sharp level of dryness and subtlety beyond my level of comprehension this year, or a tendency toward naive literalism has abolished sensitivity to sarcasm from the comment section.
Just in case, I'm keeping my smart remarks in the quiver until we see how this year's comment sections shake out.
|10 weeks 22 hours ago||Horford?||
Is that you?
|10 weeks 22 hours ago||I was||
pleased when Delaney brought Nebraska into the conference, then we found out it meant having OSU in a different division.
Finally we got that worked out, but it means playing Rutgers and MD regularly at the cost of historical rivals going back to the WWI era, as well as any potential improvements to the schedule like Nebraska. It is sort of difficult to keep a straight face when calling the result a "schedule."
By now, it seems that it is not just Brandon, but the B1G and CFB as a whole that is hell-bent on driving its historic fan-base out the door in its indecent haste to cash in on TV revenue. It's getting harder to maintain anywhere near the old enthusiam for a system being mined and gutted by a bunch of jerks.
|21 weeks 3 days ago||I had||
AT&T land-line service. Their work crews cut my service unintentionally more than once while screwing around with the box at the end of the street, and it was unholy hell to ever get AT&T off their asses to ever fix what they had messed up. It always took a minimum of 10 days to get service restored after they fucked it up, and they stonewalled the whole way. I got rid of them, but I probably have to look forward to seeing them in Hell.
|21 weeks 3 days ago||"Catch"||
First of all, objectifies the person you are referring to as a "catch," making them sound like a particularly large tuna you caught on a fishing trip.
Second of all, implies that you "caught" more than you really deserve to have, which implies that, unless you keep them drugged and tied up in the basement, you are likely to lose them, or at least find them all eaten up by the time you drag them back to harbor tied to the side of the boat because they are too big to haul into the boat.
Furthermore, I don't understand why ending a marriage at age 22 is worse than ending one at 23, 24 . . . , 109, 110, or whatever other age 50% or more of marriages end in the US. And I really don't care what they do, and I certainly don't consider myself better than they are.
Perhaps this argument is about whether people who remain entangled in a horrible marriage that they are capable of leaving should get a medal for refusing to admit they fucked up. I think they deserve a divorce just like anyone else. Or maybe those happily married folk deserve a medal for lucking out. In this case, certainly virtue is its own reward.
I only really responded to see how narrow the box will get. Anybody know where to go to discuss the NCAA commitment/recruitment system?
|21 weeks 5 days ago||If this||
is what the NCAA does when it's not scheming to deny medical care to people seriously injured while playing revenue sports, it's time to put it out of everyone else's misery.
|21 weeks 6 days ago||I didn't realize||
Zyzzyballubah was the name of the terrifying levitating fireball head thing from Wizard of Oz.
He actually seems pretty mellow when you get close to him. Intimidating visitors to the Wizard of Oz must have been a shitty job for him.
|22 weeks 1 day ago||Isn't a "firepit"||
a hole in the ground where you have fires?
How do you steal a firepit?
|24 weeks 5 days ago||Well, if it helps,||
there's also that "eye of the needle" quotation.
Some folks have tried to grapple with it, BTW, as follows:
Others cite OT passages to suggest a simple case of Hebrew/Aramaic hyperbole. More on this: http://www.biblicalhebrew.com/nt/camelneedle.htm .
