In unrelated news, let's talk about Michael Sam showering some more.
|15 hours 44 min ago||Yeah||
Read Ace's recruiting article from yesterday. I think you should be more confident than ESPN is suggesting.

On the assumption that I would be otherwise occupied this week.

that there is no practical way to provide the kind of insanely in-depth analysis we did on every player, including the differing opinions held by the four of us on those players, and their styles of play and the nuances of their fits at various positions, that wouldn't look an awful lot like the way we did it.
|3 days 16 hours ago||I didn't take it as dickish||
And your complaints are legitimate. I was just trying to explain why we did it in this INSANELY LONG format.
If we just put a list out there and say "We put Shilique Calhoun at #7 because be think he's a little overrated," that's not terribly helpful. But to do a really deep dive into all of these players, it takes a lot of time and research, and it really takes all four of us to write everything up with the video links, article links, stats, and analysis. I agree that the articles are incredibly dense on each player, which is why we interspersed some (okay, a metric shit-ton of) snark.
|3 days 16 hours ago||Eat your vegetables, dammit||
If we just list 100 players, you'll just read the list. And it'll be the same list you can read on any of a dozen sites with a simple Google search. And it would probably look pretty similar, all things considered. I'd bet you good money that Bleacher Report has six of those articles available.
But we want to analyze WHY a player is #17 and why another player is #37. And we want to challenge the arguments about why a player is or isn't good. We disagree on some players, and there are good reasons to disagree about those players. If you can find a more in-depth discussion of Michael Rose and Nebraska's linebacking situation from any non-Nebraska site out there, I'd be shocked.
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the series. But if you want a ranked list of who we think are the top 65 or so offensive players, give this a read. There is also a hyperlink to an in-depth discussion of every Big Ten player we think was really worth discussing.

Based on the headline, and the content... yes. Yes it is.

He has as many games played as any other outside receiver other than Funchess
He had the highest 247 composite ranking of any outside receiver on the roster other than Drake Harris. That includes Funchess, Chesson, and Canteen.
If Chesson finishes with more receiving yards than Darboh, I will come back and declare you "right" (even though, again, we didn't have the luxury of choosing "the field" when ranking guys, and the guy you picked when pressed is ALSO a second-teamer). But I would make the same prediction today as I made when I wrote my prediction, iron-clad depth chart notwithstanding.
And, again, you're basing your being "proven right" on a thing that can't possibly prove you right.

I HAVE BURNED MYSELF ON THE #HOTSPORTSTAKE.
|4 days 14 hours ago||I still don't get your point||
If the accusation is "groupthink," we all came to the conclusion independently, I disagree. Brian answered first, I named Darboh my breakout player candidate in HTTV, and I've had conversation with both Ace and Seth at separate times in which they expressed similar thoughts before the topic was even floated to the group. That is also combined with a healthy dose of insider-y information (for the others, not so much me).
I guess I'm confused if we're conflating a "unanimous" vote and a vote that isn't subject to criticism. Of course Darboh isn't a lock to be #2 the way Funchess is a lock to be #1. But there is a reason we all came to the same conclusion.
|4 days 15 hours ago||#TeamLard||
|4 days 15 hours ago||I guess that's kinda the point||
You can't say "see, I was right, Darboh is #2 on the depth chart" but then say you think Canteen will be more productive at the end of the day in spite of the depth chart.
|4 days 15 hours ago||Wait?||
|4 days 15 hours ago||Fair...||
...but then again, do you REALLY want to declare victory based on a pre-opener depth chart, when (a) Hoke already undermined several aspects of the depth chart in thye press conference that took place 30 minutes after the depth chart was released, and (b) there are still 13 games to go and we have seen 0 games?
(Also, I would assume that the "shallow and pedantic" line is a Family Guy reference).

Would it make a difference for the quarterback, though? If he has a better sense of who is unaccounted for, does that help him read the defense?
As an example, Gardner calls out Max Bullough as the MIKE, and in doing so knows that if Denicos Allen is coming, he's a serious dangerman?
|1 week 1 day ago||FWIW||
The mods (and I, when I jump into the fray) are pretty pragmatic about this stuff. Some major world events will be left up; if we re-animatethe corpse of Osama Bin Laden and kill him again, that would be worth a discussion. If it involves the word "Kardashian," though, not so much.
Unless a Kardashian kills Zombie Bin Laden. I guess we would talk about that.
|1 week 1 day ago||Depends||
Major events (Wrestlemania, etc.) are fine.
