If anyone ever needs to…

If anyone ever needs to explain the concept of concern trolling, this thread is it.

Really? Going 15-0 seemed to…

Really?

Going 15-0 seemed to be a decent harbinger for Joe Burrow, and he was throwing to generational talents at WR, unlike JJ. But even that's comparing apples to elephants. LSU gets talent we only dream of getting. Without GA winning multiple national championships, Stetson Bennet probably doesn't even get an UDFA invite. You're kind of self-owning yourself without even realizing it.

I am 100% doubling down. I don't care if whiny posters want to pick nits. JJ MF-ing McCarthy led Michigan to the becoming the first and only B1G team in history to post a 15-0 National Championship. If that's a lazy take, I'm freaking Rip Van Winkle.

The accomplishment is mind-boggling. No amount of revisionist history will change this notion. I still can't believe it happened. But it did. JJ was the starting QB. He was clutch at the biggest moments. He learned from past mistakes (TCU). He played team football. He played unselfish football -- see chapter entitled "Penn State Second Half." He took full advantage of our great OL, RBs, TEs, and coaches, like Top 5 picks should do. If you want your QB to play "hero ball," have at it.

Entitled Buckeye slappies and lazy fanboys can obsess over the stats. A QB's job, above everything else, is to win games. JJ wins. Full stop. Throughout its history, Michigan has arguably had several more talented overall teams than 2021-2023. None of them went 15-0. Some of them didn't even win the conference.  NFL franchises use Top 5 picks on franchise QBs. NFL franchises want Lombardi trophies. JJ is a Top 5 pick.

He's a top 5 pick (which he…

He's a top 5 pick (which he wasn't at the start of the draft process) because IN ADDITION to leading us, along with Blake, along with the OL, along with the D, and along with the coaching staff, he has NFL arm talent, size, and intangibles. JJ showed out bigtime at both the Combine and the Michigan Pro Day.

By writing 27-1/15-0, I admittedly did not include some of the obvious context, but still, a Michigan starting QB with those records is mind-boggling. It should never get old. It should never be diminished. It's an astonishing record given our talent disadvantages against the elite teams. JJ McCarthy led Michigan to a 15-0 National Championship! He played some his best football late in the game, in the Rose Bowl, against freaking Alabama, trailing by a TD in the 4th quarter.

This is not routine stuff. We can't pretend like Tim Tebow or Ken Dorsey or Stetson Bennett ever did the same thing.

I'm guilty of lacking nuance…

I'm guilty of lacking nuance in my post, but come on with this nonsense. Ken Dorsey was part of some of the most talent-laden teams in college football history; teams that were stacked everywhere with future All-Pros and even future NFL HOFers.

The JJ McCarthy Michigan teams barely crack the Top 15 in the talent indexes.

Ken Dorsey had JJ's physical skills (arm talent, athleticism, strength) only his wettest of dreams. Living in Miami at the time, I watched many games live at the old Orange Bowl when Ken Dorsey was leading The U. Dorsey was solid. Dorsey played smart football. But mostly everyone could see Dorsey's NFL limitations because his arm strength, unlike JJ, was average, at best.

It is 100% a data point. But…

It is 100% a data point. But I didn't disrespect or diminish the rest of the team. That's nonsense.

If Stetson Bennett had JJ's physical tools, I would have very much supported him being drafted higher. I admit my post lacked nuance, but I completely stand by the fact that JJ McCarthy led us, a team that never ranks in the Top 10 in the talent indexes like UGA, to the first 15-0(!) National Championship in B1G history. I'm still in awe. I will always be in awe. JJ belongs on the Michigan football Mt. Rushmore.

JJ is the most accomplished QB in Michigan history. He's got a cannon arm. He's super athletic. His decision-making has improved each year. He has NFL height. He has NFL mechanics. He now apparently has NFL weight. He's a Top 5 pick.

Yes. This post gets it.

Yes. This post gets it.

I think this conflates two…

I think this conflates two different questions. Is JJ worthy of a Top 5 pick. I say "YES!!!" Will JJ risk being a Top 5 bust of he goes to an organization filled with clowns? Sadly, the answer is also probably "yes."

I agree that it doesn't matter to us/Michigan fans where he goes unless we are fans of an NFL team that needs a QB. But I want every member of Team 144 to be drafted as high as possible

I didn't say JJ single…

I didn't say JJ single-handedly carried us to 15-0/27-1. Come on.

I agree with you somewhat regarding credit being shared with EVERYONE, certainly to include Blake, the OL, the incredible defense, and the coaching. But unless you started watching football yesterday, it is an objective fact that the QB is the most important position. Winning football teams overwhelming are led by the top QBs. Exceptions are rare. Physical traits, which JJ has in spades, are crucially important, but imho, intangibles are even more important -- see chapter entitled "Thomas Brady."

JJ, time and time and time again, demonstrated he can lead a winning football team. My biggest criticism of JJ is that he sometimes throws dangerous passes against his momentum/across the field when a play breaks down. That won't fly in the NFL. He also needs to refine the outside-the-numbers passes to his left.

I was dead wrong when I argued in early-2022 that Cade should keep the starting job. I assumed Cade's intangibles were superior to JJ. I was naïve to the fact that to win a national championship, you need plus-talent AND plus-intangibles. If JJ would have made the wrong mistake at the wrong time (cough, TCU, cough), it would have rendered our incredible coaching and defense void. Instead, he rose to the occasion when it mattered most. That's winning football. That's worth a Top 5 pick any year.

Yep. 15-0. 27-1.

A "little brotherish" tidbit would have included a reference to either Walmart or the super-duper-mean TUNNEL. Instead, this post seems more akin to getting #PumpItUpped over Michigan jerseys selling like hotcakes.

Either way, screw them. They're entitled, whiny, Just For Men customers that prefer coolers for pooping.

Boulder at #2 is dubious. I live as close to Boulder County as a person can live without actually living in Boulder County. It's difficult to argue that Boulder's natural setting is anything other than world-class. The Flatirons are iconic. There are parks and open spaces galore. Three hundred days of sun is real. But underneath the surface, Boulder has MANY problems.

Real estate is grossly expensive and often aging. The middle class has essentially disappeared from the City of Boulder. Property taxes are increasingly untenable. Good restaurants/bars struggle to find their initial footing and then longevity. Homelessness, open drug use, mental illness are commonplace. Boulder Creek, which runs through the heart of Boulder, is no longer idyllic.

And the worst part of all is the Boulder population itself. Boulder generally does not welcome dissenting voices. Only one type of life philosophy is welcome in local Boulder government. This homogeneous approach to all issues is causing a worsening rot. Political complacency and corruption is taking over. This is not intended as a partisan statement -- any one party town, regardless of which party is dominating, will inevitably cause unchecked corruption and eventual stagnation or decline.

Your post sucks.

To suggest a parent, or parents, or guardians, or friends, or teachers, or counselors cannot vicariously enjoy the crowning achievement of a child's secondary education is asshole Level 10.

I agree on both fronts.

I agree on both fronts.

Healthy Paul George has a game that fits perfectly into FIBA-ball. I always worry about his health, which is a bit unfair considering how his major leg injury occurred while playing for Team USA.

Embiid declared for Team USA several months ago. I personally was expecting him to play for France. There's no international player capable of guarding Embiid right now 1-on-1, whether it be Gobert, Jokic, Sabonis, etc. With Kerr as the head coach, and Spoelstra as an assistant, I imagine a weaponization of the shooters playing with Embiid that will be akin to a destruction of the Multiverse.

[T]he national team doesn't…

[T]he national team doesn't need wingers who can shoot 3's but don't really seriously contribute to the D

I agree, but I think it may be a bit more nuanced. I'm not an expert on the international game. My sense is there's a greater need for catch-and-shoot three-point-shooters compared to ball-dominant/create-your-own-shot shooters. The three-point line is shorter. Someone like Robinson should shoot 50%+ from 3, which is game-changing. Games are only 40 minutes, so 3-point shooting takes on an even greater level of importance.

You bring up Harden and KD, both of which are all-time scorers. I cannot imagine Harden morphing into an elite catch-and-shoot/come-off-screens type of player. KD, on the other hand, is world class at using screens in addition to his own shot-making capabilities. KD with space is virtually unstoppable. Not really a hot take, but I wouldn't include Harden on the final roster.

I think a player like Robinson could help enormously with a player like Embiid, or even Tatum. With a player like Robinson spreading the floor, double-teaming Embiid becomes incredibly problematic. And as of today's date, there is no one on Earth that can guard Embiid 1-on-1. Fouling Embiid is problematic because you only get 5 fouls under FIBA rules. Embiid is the best offensive player on the planet right now. Full stop. When you add in Embiid's rim-protecting abilities, Robinson's defensive shortcomings can be somewhat mitigated.

Embiid + Robinson (as a second or third unit) = massive 2nd or 3rd quarter runs. For the first unit, I like something along the lines of Haliburton, Steph, Kawhi, Tatum, and Embiid.

We’re about to play for a 15…

We’re about to play for a 15-0 National Championship. Ohio State has never, EVER been 15-0. Let that sink in. The only time they were 14-0 was in 2002, and that required a phantom 2OT pass interference call against Miami in the Fiesta Bowl. They are freaking out right now.

It does not piss me off at all that they are having daily message board melt downs. If the Buckeye program and their fanbase want to obsess over excuses, including advance scouting that they knew about before the ‘22 beatdown, let them. Those entitled *ssholes are one Iowa or Purdue loss away from a self-induced mega-implosion of biblical proportions.

Why any Michigan fan gives a flying f*ck about anything Ohio State related this week is beyond me. None of them are worth a second of our time, especially the circle-jerking dumbasses that litter their message boards. They’re like a bunch of 8-year-olds that still laugh when someone says “booger.”

They’re entitled brats that have become more obsessed with excuses than accountability or introspection. And their leader has fooled a gullible fanbase into believing advance scouting is the reason their obnoxious reign is over.

We should let them be. They’re ironically helping us. The more they desperately try to convince themselves someone, anyone cares about Connor Stallions, the more they are avoiding the hard reality of their own on-the-field demise.

Thanks for the honest answer…

Thanks for the honest answer. Sorry for your troubles. What a bummer coincidence.

Did you get a chance to look at the 11W "Carpetbagger" account? What a gigantic loser that person is, amirite? I mean seriously. That pathetic-mommy's-basement-dweller spends literally hours and hours each day circle-jerking with anonymous friends on 11W, really the same 20 mouth-breathers, convincing themselves that the #WorstScandalinCFBHistory is going give them their happiness back.

My favorite part is how mad they get when someone brings up the reality that no one outside of the Ohio State message board slappies are even talking about the advance scouting scheme anymore. Hilarious! It's like a sad-face-echo-chamber for entitled-increasingly-overweight-middle-aged-males who just want their woobies (cough, Urban "Urbs" Meyer, cough) back.

Actually, I'm wrong. That's not the best part. The best part is that the 11W circle-jerk is led by these two gigantic D-List-celebrity-wanna-bees:

Honest question. Do you go…

Honest question. Do you go by the same Username (Carpetbagger) on 11W that today wrote:

I partially agree/disagree…

I partially agree/disagree with your take. Ryan Day is an above average offensive coordinator based on his pre-HC record. So far, he's an average, at best, head coach. Ohio State's talent advantage, which has existed for decades and decades before Ryan Day was even a coach, virtually guarantees Ohio State 10 wins each year.

Of course 99% of schools would die for 10+ wins each year. That's not Ohio State. As much as I despise their program, I (used to) respect it. Their stated goals are:

(1) Beat Michigan.

(2) Win the B1G.

(3) Play in the CFP.

(4) Win the National Championship.

Ryan Day's performance is below his/their own expectations. Fact. Full Stop. Ryan Day has failed to improvise, coach with timely aggressiveness, and create a team-first culture that can handle adversity. He's become the leader of "The Excuse University." Day's biggest current claim-to-fame is duping his gullible fanbase into online circle-jerking over shiny objects rather than actually engaging in meaningful introspection or self-scouting.

Ryan Day is good for us. Ryan Day Forever!

They would rather circle-jerk on message boards all day about #WorstScandalInCFBHistory than engage in a morsel of introspection. They take talent advantage as their birthright. And Mr. Third Base is their perfect storm of underachievement. A coach incapable of accountability, improvisation, and timely aggressiveness, yet wild successful at distracting his gullible fanbase into shiny object infatuation.

Because the band is adjacent…

Because the band is adjacent to the students near the North Endzone, the band's volume in the South Endzone, where I usually sit, is not great. I'm suggesting adding speakers to the South Endzone scoreboard to specifically amplify the band's volume when they are playing. There were several moments during the Ohio State game this year when the Ohio State band was playing at the same time as the Michigan band. I could barely hear the Michigan band when this happened. And in general, it's sometimes difficult to get the full band effect on the south side of the stadium.

Maybe this is not possible, though. I guess the delayed band sound coming from the South Endzone could cause the sound in the North Endzone to be muddled? There has to be some legitimate reason why they decided to not include speakers on the new south scoreboard. https://247sports.com/college/michigan/article/michigan-stadium-new-scoreboards-lights-audio-system-the-inside-scoop-about-the-big-house-upgrades-213537934/

My question is:  What do you…

My question is:  What do you think of Michigan Stadium and the environment?   Is it loud - when it needs to be?   Can you tell a difference?  (Especially if you go back a few years to "before" the boxes were added.)

It can be loud when it "needs to be," but Michigan Stadium unlikely will ever be the "loudest." The somewhat flat bowl angle, even with the angled structures, is just not acoustically conducive to maximizing volume. I've been consistently attending games since 1992, and yes, there is a noticeable difference since the sideline structures and giant scoreboards were added. This seems fairly obviously and not really in dispute.

Another contributing factor, imo, is the cramped nature of the bowl. I find it difficult for larger folks to truly unleash their excitement because many cannot freely move their arms.

If it were up to me, and money was not an issue, I'd widen all of the bowl seats, and I would add additional suite/covered structures in the endzones so that the scoreboards were fully framed. I'd aim to keep capacity the same or increased despite the seats being widened. In addition to angling the new endzone structures down, I'd also add additional noise-deflecting materials on the existing sideline structures. Finally, the South Endzone needs added speakers to increase the band presence and the piped-in music across the entire stadium.

Deja vu all over again.

Deja vu all over again.

Even assuming Tressel was breaking "rules" with impunity, his Ohio State teams were juggernauts. They played us without fear.

I see how ridiculously pathetic it is to search out every imaginable excuse when my team loses repeatedly to its rival. I also see how ridiculously pathetic it is to argue against players being reimbursed for their talents, sacrifices, and value. With time, and now with Ryan Day, Tressel is still a vallian in my mind, but a respected one.

Do you really want to play for a head coach that is so incredibly lacking in self confidence that he has to rely on a PI and PR firm to fool a fanbase into thinking he's not in over his head.

Watching the body language of the Ohio State players, it occurs to me they know exactly who they are playing for. Anyone who can find a way out and save face likely will.
