I live in Columbus and I promise you that all of the horror stories about the treatment of Michigan fans down here is way overblown. I've been to games wearing Michigan gear and I wear it around town all the time. I never get threatened, spit on, etc. Just use common sense (i.e., don't pick fights) and I assure you that you'll be fine. The most you'll have to deal with is people yelling "fuck Michigan" at you, which, c'mon.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||Why no Josh Jackson?||
My apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, as I follow football recruiting a lot more closely than basketball recruiting, but isn't the consensus #1 high school player in the country from Detroit in Josh Jackson? I haven't seen a mention of him, and I'm surprised we wouldn't give him a day-one offer. Is this because the conventional wisdom is that he's headed elsewhere, or is it because he hasn't come to capus yet?
|12 weeks 10 hours ago||What?||
Doesn't Mack play basically the same position as Mingo? Can you have two pass rushing OLBs on the field at the same time?
|22 weeks 13 hours ago||I agree completely||
I live in Columbus and have for the past 5 years. I wear Michigan stuff everywhere, and have never had a problem. I've had maybe 1 or 2 instances of someone joking that they are going to charge me more for something because of my shirt, but that's the worst I've ever gotten.
The best comeback, I've learned, is to just ask them what year they graduated from Ohio State, and watch them reply awkwardly that they never went to school there.
|25 weeks 3 days ago||He did||
If I recall he put up pretty decent numbers his senior year, bit when I saw him against my nephew's high school in the playoffs (Tiffin Columbian), I wasn't all that impressed.
|35 weeks 5 days ago||Never||
Never have I called for Hoke to be fired. But rationally thinking, how is he in any way outperforming Rich Rod? Sure, he had the 11-2 debut, but he has regressed to equal RR's output, where at least RR progressed to that point.

But I totally agree with this sentiment. I played line in college (albeit in a lower division) and based on my experience, it usually takes until your third year in college before you get used to the strength and speed of college D-line competition. There are obviously exceptions (Lewan, Boren) but year three is typically the time. I think coaching or not, we will see significant improvement next year.
|45 weeks 4 days ago||I think this is very ignorant...||
Trust me, I hate Ohio State football as much as anyone, and while they aren't rated as highly as UM academically, they are a quality school. In the latest US News rankings they were 52nd in the country and 18th public school. Knocking that education and saying things like OSU students only live for football is incredibly elitist and pompous and what gives Michigan fans a bad name.

Any idea why here hasn't been an offer to Settle yet? Seems like there must be some interest on his part if he came to campus, and given his recruiting profile, it's a little surprising. Also, any news of reaction from him for this weekend?
|50 weeks 6 days ago||Yes||
Those were my favorite unintentionally funny jerseys of all time. I prefer what UConn did when it had two sisters with the same first initial. They went first initial, second initial, last name. Simpler.
|51 weeks 5 days ago||I just don't understand the need for this comment.||
Is it really affecting your life if there are two posts on the same topic? Especially if the second one adds personal interview questions with the topic of said posts?
|1 year 4 weeks ago||On Scott committing to Clemson,||
my point was just that since he was a strong Michigan lean just a couple of weeks ago, why not hold off taking his replacement until he actually commits to Clemson? It seems as though if we were going to change his mind before the Opening, this would be the worst thing we could do.
|1 year 4 weeks ago||Also||
I hope you've never bitched about the play calling of any of our past or present coaches, unless of course you are, yourself major college football coach. What a douche.
|1 year 4 weeks ago||So just to be clear||
everyone bitching about Joe Dumars passing on Trey Thursday night needs to shut the fuck up because he's an NBA GM and they're not, right?
|1 year 4 weeks ago||The 4 major recruiting services have watched them||
and they like the other options better.
|1 year 4 weeks ago||I know I'm going to get hammered for this,||
but I just don't see it with either of these guys. These are the kind of recruits that make sense to me in January if we miss on some other options, but not now. Why not put the full court press on Artavis Scott and/or KJ Williams at WR and see what happens with them before offering Canteen, or see how things work out with Westphal, etc before offering Watson? Are we really that worried about losing them to Rutgers int he next month? Add with that the considerations about thier hign school (not to mention their rankings), and it just makes more sense to me for these two to be back-up plans. And please, before anyone starts with the "you don't know, trust the coaches, they know more than you" standard reply, that only works if the coaches are never wrong and fans are never right (not to mention recruiting services). We've seen enough bad decisions in the past where that argument just doesn't hold water to me anymore.
|1 year 24 weeks ago||What drives me crazy||
about Urban is that he is complaining about the level of recruiting from other BIg Ten teams and simultaneously poaching committed recruits from them. I don't really have a problem, honestly, with going after committed recruits in conference (we do plenty of it) but preaching about other teams stepping up their game is pure hypocrisy.

Since he was the WR MVP at the Columbus NFTC, does that mean he got an invite to the Opening? Would be great to have another Michigan representative there.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||One thing...||
I work right around the corner from the arena and while I agree that Red Wings games usually have more Detroit fans than CBJ fans, and that CBJ fans usualy aren't too in your face, there has been a real buzz about the team trading Carter and trying to deal Nash today. People might actually show up tonight / be a little more frothy than normal.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||I agree but||
I think there is definitely a distinction between allowing visitors in case someone decommits and actually accepting another commitment when you said you wouldn't.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||Pocic||
Would you say the same thing for Pocic? I only ask because while I've never held my breath for Tunsil, I think Pocic was / is a real possibility, and once Kugler committed one of the first things I wondered about was if that meant we were out of the running for him.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||Disagree||
I know this was largely covered in the "do we allow other linemen to visit" thread, but I really don't think we could accept a commit from Tunsil or Pocic if the coaches really told the linemen we have signed up that 5 was the number of linemen in this class. With Hoke and the other coaches selling character and molding of young men (which I buy, BTW), I think taking a 6th would undermine that and hurt them down the road more than they would benefit in adding one of these guys.
|2 years 42 weeks ago||Best of luck to him||
If the coaches cooled on him, I trust them that Godin / Wormley / Strobel can play the 3-Tech. I'm just happy that he's not going to Sparty. I guess good outcome overall.
|2 years 43 weeks ago||Why neg me?||
Negging for posting an honest opinion that many people here share? Bush-league.
|2 years 43 weeks ago||COMPLETELY agree as to recruiting||
First, I agree that this would be phenomenal for recruiting, which by itself would be enough for me to support this. Second, shouldn't we care what the students want? I can't stand the constant push-back against "new" traditions that appeal to younger fans (mascots, recorded music, etc) in the name of keeping every tradition imaginable for the sake of the older fans.
FWIW, I logged on and signed the petition. Thankfully my username and password still work after all these years.
|2 years 43 weeks ago||I agree as to Pop Evil, but..||
I'm no fan of "In the Big House" becuase I think it is lame and unoriginal, but at the same time, I don't think that just playing the standard marching band list is what a younger audience (myself included) wants for our game day atmosphere. Playing recorded music enhances the atmosphere for a lot of people and gets people pumped up.
Personally, I would love to have the music of Eminem / The White Strpies / some other good Michigan artist used for our pre game. My personal dream is that Jack White (an Ontario / SE Michigan native) would tell Penn State, Ohio State, et. al that they can't use "Seven Nation Army" anymore the way rock stars do with politicians when they use their songs without permission. We could then keep that little dandy for ourselves.
|2 years 46 weeks ago||I've seen it...||
At Tennessee John Henderson was 6'7" and Albert Haynesworth was 6'6". That height also allowed them both to play at 325+ lbs. I'd take that here.
|3 years 9 weeks ago||I need some clarification||
I keep hearing that if a 5-star player c wants to commit, the school will "make room for them". Does this mean that if a 5-star announces at the all-star games in January (or on signing day) that we will quietly be telling one of our 3-star recruits who committed in May that they are SOL?
I, too have been concerned with this point. If, for example, 3 or 4 of the lower ranked linemen we have commit, and then come January Peat, Diamond, Magnuson and Banner all announce, what will the coaches do? Take 8 O-Line prospects?
|3 years 9 weeks ago||I also suspect||
that the fact that he had a 3.24 GPA and no real world work experience while applying to MBA programs helped in his decision making process as well.
Just a hunch that he wasn't getting into business school at U of M, Northwestersn, Stanford or Duke (the other schools he considered) with those credentials.
|3 years 9 weeks ago||Penn State design||
I disagree. If you look at what Happy Valley has, they put that massive upper deck on the one endzone, and it looks pretty intimidating, especially if you do it with a deck and some overhang, instead of just extending the bowl. We could do the same thing, and either put the Godzilla-trons on top or surrond them with the seating.
As for doing it for 1 or both endzones, I would obviously love it for both, but I think one could work. We could pile the whole student section into that endzone and it would be crazy loud.
