I strongly agree with both…

I strongly agree with both of you. The fact it's falling on fans/alumni to basically pay the player salaries is A JOKE, and I think many people feel the same. Hence why I don't think the idea of large amounts of small donors ever making up a massive collective will ever be comparable to a mega donor who wants to just throw millions at football.

I don't disagree with your…

I don't disagree with your premise. I'm just stating that's not what is currently happening at Michigan or the majority of schools at the moment. The collectives are fine, but in the pay for play recruiting game (which we reportedly aren't even participating in as is) it's not groups of well funded collectives with thousands of small donors leading the way.

It's a couple ultra rich individuals spending millions of their own money (and also being able to have the most control over the process, unlike a collective).

The amount of articles,…

The amount of articles, tweets, message board posts regarding those 3 schools specifically (and the mega donors funding the recruiting at those places) are pretty widely circulated.

I am not saying that collectives with a bunch of small donors can't work or don't help or that Michigan shouldn't pursue that strategy. I'm saying by all indications the schools spending the most, and having the most success with the pay for play recruiting version of NIL, are the ones with an ultra wealthy mega donor leading the way.

Indeed it is very…

Indeed it is very unsurprising, as most have expected him to head to Iowa a few weeks now. Even before he hit the portal. Basically same with Cade.

Assume there's a bunch of "tampering" stories going around on twitter and via CFB media? No? Interesting those tampering claims most only get clicks when it's Harbaugh/Michigan

Okie is not coming back. Not…

Okie is not coming back. Not sure why the writers here even insinuate that. He will be 24 in June, he was already a guy on draft radars before transferring here just based on his sheer potential and talent. He's already shown enough this season (on field and from a maturation standpoint) where he's a lock to be drafted, and probably higher than most people assume.

Yeah I should have included…

Yeah I should have included that quote in the OP.

From the article:

"The thinking is that the Jets plan to make Harbaugh a financial offer he can’t refuse, well in excess of the $7 million he earns at Ann Arbor."

FWIW I'm a degen and follow…

FWIW I'm a degen and follow this prop (and many others) weekly. Just FYI, this isn't a coin flip. The movement and price every week on this reeks of known outcome. Dimes doesn't have the inside information, but it's very likely staffers on the production show do. Word leaks, and either they or people they know/tell hammer it. Best to avoid this one.

Would agree on McElwain

Would agree on McElwain overall, but glass half full, Florida had no problem recruiting talented receivers (QBs not so much), but WR should likely be his focus.

Warriner maybe not elite, but he did put a ton of guys he recruited at OSU into the NFL FWIW.

Couldn’t close

Truly didn’t think he was a terrible OL coach. But we missed on pretty much every single elite tackle recruit under his watch. Couldn’t close. As a college position coach success is so much about recruiting, and he was frankly a below par recruiter during his tenure at Michigan.

Has nothing to do with

Has nothing to do with sympathy. He's not a hero, he's a victim, and contributing (and more so encouraging others) to a GoFund me because of his actions is honestly ridiculous. Beating up Nassar does nothing to help his daughters recovery, it does nothing to prevent this type of crime from happening again, it just satisfies some temporary emotion that has no beneficial result.

Nassar got the just punishment he deserved of life in prison, there is no need for a raging father to physically attack him. This is not how modern healthy societies function, and it should not be promoted.

Yeah there’s no need for the

Yeah there’s no need for the scorn. I still think Greg Frey is a really good football coach, his system and style was just not a fit for our personnel. He prefers lighter guys who can pull and move, it’s more of a natural fit for a spread system, should transition well with Taggart’s offense. He’s put some lightly recruited linemen in the NFL, and I respect his track record, it just didn’t work for this team, this year.

My only heartburn is we recruited a couple tackles in the Frey mold, who may or may not fit our new running system.

He didn't go to a conference

He didn't go to a conference rival. He went to Minnesota.

I feel like these tactics

I feel like these tactics have worked elsewhere in this country recently, just can't put my finger on where.....

I want to hate your comment.

I want to hate your comment. And I do, because it's so fucking stupid and nonsensical.

He was never a great

He was never great in coverage, via man coverage, or playing read and react zone as a safety. He's also not big enough to play true LB in the NFL and take on blocks. You almost have to customize your defense to have him play as a hybrid space player with limited coverage responsibilities, but most teams/coordinators wouldn't even consider that.

Love Jabrill, he was a great Wolverine, but he's more of a speciality player in the NFL. I don't see him growing into a real impact high level player, the role is not there to match his skillset/size.

Congrats!

So where did you meet him?

Could definitely be

Could definitely be considered overly harsh but "tranny maybe" made me LOL.

Huh?

Filiaga is 6'6 with a long wingspan, played T in high school, was recruited as a T, we are stocked at guard and have had a gaping hole at RT all year, why are you assuming he's a G?

We absolutely murdered them

We absolutely murdered them on the ground. Still can't pass protect with any consistency. Won't matter vs Maryland but we will need a little more through the air to compete with Wisky.

Baseball = WOAT

Sports I would rather watch than baseball:
Softball
Beach or indoor volleyball
Any Olympic event
E-sports
Hot dog eating contests
Grass growing contest

I have no idea how people watch/enjoy baseball, it is painfully awful. But if you enjoy it, more power to you. I'll be watching Tuesdayyyyy MACTION.

Paywall's and the internet

Not usually a successful combo. Email, storage, porn, all of these things tried to protect information and charge for it via paywall.

The vast majority of those models failed, as competitors come into the market and start offering those services cheaper or even free.

Even recruiting sites are feeling the pain. In this case with the Athletic, I don't believe their product is remotely unique or desired enough to justify a paywall, and it will fail miserably once investment dollars dry up.

On point

Had a convo with some people on twitter about this other day. I've never been drawn to any of their content, or thought it was unique in a way that it justifies a sub model.

Also, you outlined well the economics around making a sub model work, which is tough to begin with.

I don't believe you can protect information and charge for it, it is not sustainable. Someone will come along and do it better, cheaper (free), more efficiently, and make you irrelevant.

Exactly.

Outside of Big Cat/PFT, Barstool is basically a poor man's SB nation that steals/reposts a bunch of unoriginal content and uses its "bro" branding to create a loyal base of morons.

"They just think their

"They just think their analytics make them smart". (LOL)

"Comes to a Michigan centric blog, complains about homerism."

Yea great points, why listen to real data from guys who run a Michigan blog, when we can listen to hot takes from fucking morons like you.

O'Korn really wasn't as

O'Korn really wasn't as terrible as I thought he was going to be, and we still lost by 30, so that gives you my level of expectation for his performance coming in.

I don't think matching up

I don't think matching up McCray all night vs the dude who's going to win the Heisman trophy was a smart idea. But, I'm not a football coach.

The big issue is MLS has

The big issue is MLS has offered most of our key national team players huge contracts to come back and play in MLS (Bradley, Jozy, Howard, Clint, etc). Have you coincidentally noticed their international level play started tanking upon return?

Our best players NEED to be in Europe. On big clubs, with real managers, playing against the worlds best. The speed and skill is at a different level. Michael Bradley was at his peak when he was playing regularly for Roma. Not in a 3rd tier league. Even successful MLS players from major soccer powers don't even get a sniff for their own national teams (Giovinco, Piatti, Valeri, Jack Harrison). The Italian soccer federation basically came out and said they wouldn't consider any player for the national team who decides to play in MLS.

The best basketball players don't go to Europe, and the best football players don't go to the CFL. It's came a long way but our national team needs to be built from guys playing in the best leagues, not MLS lifers/regulars.

This is a myth, and simply

This is a myth, and simply not accurate. Books are fine have action shaded to one side if they feel a number is accurate or the action is coming from square bettors.

Spreads are only moved by sharp bettors (pros) or overwhelming money on one side (think Floyd Mayweather type bets).

The goal is not 50/50.

Not all of them are. But you

Not all of them are. But you know what, even the ones that aren't, what is wrong with taking money to play a sport or sign with a shoe company?

I'm middle class, I don't have kids, but if I did and somebody is offering 50-100k to my son to play ball, he's more than welcome to accept it.

Just because the NCAA has some ridiculous rules in place, that are designed to keep money at the top, why should kids and families follow them?

What the fuck are you talking about

"Shady money". It's a school/apparel company offering kids money to play basketball at a school or sign with a shoe company. Not money from a crackhouse that a drug dealer made selling to kids.

"Using it as an excuse starts them off on a poor path". This comment makes you sound so clueless. When you're poor, you don't have the option many times to be dignified, self-righteous, and make the right decision for a life pathway. You need money for food, bills, utilities, not a fucking life lesson.

I guarantee you're a middle class or higher white guy who has never dealt with ANY of this, so you sit on your high horse and try to spew "advice" for parents to teach their kid not to "break the rules".

Would love to see you in a situation where your family is flat broke and in poverty, somebody offers you or your kid 100k to play bball, and you turn it down because you want to be on the "right path"

Man GTFOH.

You will never make everyone

You will never make everyone happy, it is impossible. This is the ultimate lose/lose. Some people want all band, some all music, some rap/hip-hip, some current pop, some classic rock, some a combination of all, some nothing.

Most students like current music adding to the experience, most old blues long for 1960 when the band and only the band played after every first down.

The music in the stadium debate is an endless one, with no solution, because everyone wants their own personal music taste exaclty repilicated.

FWIW

This opened 7-7.5 and has been bet down to 3.5. So early money has been on MSU.

Notre Dame obviously has more talent, but they are on b2b road games, and MSU is off a bye and it is a home game at night.

You're right

My mistake, 2-1 record, 3-0 ATS.

I tend to agree, it's tough to lay 10 with our offensive struggles right now, but they will really have a hard time protecting the QB and they get almost no pressure on opposing QBs (1 sack on the season)

That is an incredible

That is an incredible stat/nugget, and I needed to log up to upvote and comment on how incredible I found it.

Sugarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Sugarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Shane

That's fair, but a lot of

That's fair, but a lot of other college QBs offer you mobility or something on the ground. Speight has good movement in the pocket, but if he's not passing efficiently he really doesn't offer much else.

He needs to be in the 60% range for the offense to be consistnetly effective.

I think above average is a

I think above average is a little strong when you consider the opponent. He wasn't the disaster some are making him out to be, but his accuracy left a lot to be desired.

Bottom line is O'Korn isn't the answer, if Peters can't beat out O'Korn then he's definitely not ready, so we can bitch all we want, there's nobody else.

While I agree on the surface

While I agree on the surface it would have been nice to see much more Isaac and power run game.

I believe (will have to see in UFR) Cinci was playing a ton of loaded boxes with single high. Basically daring us to throw the football.

So we did, mostly unsuccessfully unfortunatley. An experienced QB with our weapons should be able to take advantage of that kind of D and hit some big plays. Just didn't happen outside of one early.

If I told you 5 years ago we

If I told you 5 years ago we would dominate a top level SEC team using a 3-3-5, can you imagine your reaction?

Life is a trip man.

Cincinnati was outgained by

Cincinnati was outgained by Austin Peay this past weekend and won by 12 at home in a game they were favored by up to 49.

Austin Peay went 0-11 last year in FCS.

Going to be an ugly one on national TV.

I mean, I think this attitude

I mean, I think this attitude is a touch casual. The elite tackles don't, the good ones a handful of times per year. He was beat multiple times in the same game pretty clean. He held his own in the run game, but I think the staff did a lot to protect him so it wasn't an ugly performance.

It's not JBB vs Rutgers, but it will be an issue likely all season long.

I don't think you save a guy

I don't think you save a guy who is perfectly fit for defending the triple option FB dive and in general causing interior run disruption cause of past injury issues. That will be a game made for his skill set, Air Force isn't a cupcake. Last year they won 10 games and beat Boise State. Under Calhoun (10 years) they've only missed a bowl and won under 6 games once. They've won more games than we have the past 3 years.

We should obviously win, but this isn't a game you sit a starter.

Bad?

But wait........some posters on here have told me cutting the cold is better than manna from heaven, and I've made the biggest mistake of my life by paying an extra $20 a month for legit high quality cable....

The market doesn't change

The market doesn't change drastically based on one game samples. The GOY (game of the year) line on most offshore betting sites was OSU -7. (6.5 some places). It would be in that range if the game was next week, but I will assume that by end of the season it is closer to Michigan between a PK and +3.

I think the legitimate

I think the legitimate postgame snowflake threads are fine, and usually contain pretty fun/interesting banter, and of course some hot takes (what better time to dish the takes than when you're still irrationally emotional about the game).

It's the threads the next day or during the week, that people want to post the same thing we have been talking about for 48 hours (or more), but want their take front and center to "look at me, my take is so important and original" (it's not 99% of the time), in their own post.

Think officiating for the Ohio State game, 3 weeks later people were still posting "original takes" and it got so bad Brian had to ban it.

"There Are....."

Less than two weeks before those stupid ass threads taking up space on the main page are gone.

Really looking forward to next March when they start up again......................

Did anybody else find it

Did anybody else find it funny that 68 speaks like a diehard staunch conservative republican yet  he has been collecting disability for 15 years?

Things like that always amaze me.

Listen, we're on the same

Listen, we're on the same side here. I vacation In Tampa and the humidity bothers me, and I hate the racist ignorant scum that make situtions like yours very difficult at times.

I just tend to enjoy the darker humor a lot of people find offensive, but I see why you would not.

I thought it was funny, as I

I thought it was funny, as I hate the alt-right and MSU football.

Also, it's a solid twitter joke as the typical humor is much darker than say what you regularly see on Facebook or this blog.

Also, enjoying the overly PC and high horse crowd getting fired up about it in these comments.

Basically a hat-trick of enjoyment for me. Thank you Brian.
