im starting to feel better about the hoke hire and i hope like hell he recruits well and wins, but if DB had hoke as plan A and never offerd JH i think i my hart would just stop beating.
i dont buy it for a second tho JH was target number 1 and he turned us down plain and simple.

he just led sdsu to there first wining season in 12 yrs! and first bowl win in 40 yrs!
plus his O was ranked 19th in scoring this year putting up 35 ppg and sdsu was ranked 12th in passing O.
ok at first i was unhappy with the hire, i wanted JH then i wanted LM. but after calming down and doing some research i think hoke is a coach on the rise. i know his 47-50 record does not sound good but keep in mind that he has coached at bsu and sdsu!
both teams have been long time door mats in there conferences and in one way or another hoke turned them around. i know it took a while to turn bsu around but in his last season he did lead them to a #12 ranking at the end of a 12-0 season (12 wins most in the schools history) heading in to the mac champ game. he was named the 2008 mac conference coach of the year.
then he goes to sdsu who had not enjoyed a winning season or been to a bowl game in 10 years! and they were coming off a 2-10 season.
hoke went 4-8 his first season but then this year goes 9-4! all 4 loses were by 5 pts or less including a 40-35 loss to #2 tcu. he led sdsu to there first wining season and bowl game in 12 years and led them to there first bowl win in 40 years!! with a 35-14 beat down of navy and he was named the 2010 mwc coach of the year.
so in the last 3 years at bsu and sdsuhoke has gone 25-13 and been named the conferences coach of the year twice!
you raise a good point, but i think he would recruit just fine at michigan. he's won alot and he's a big name put him at michigan and i think plenty of recruits would flock here.
Hey, long time reader first time poster. i don't understand for the life of me why brian and some other people on this board think miles would be an awful hire. I like everyone else wanted JH but he didn't want us so nothing DB could do about that. HOWEVER with JH off the table, miles is as good of a hire as anyone else we could have gotten. Sure there's other good coach's like patterson peterson mullin ect, BUT after researching miles a little further i think he's the right man for the job, anyone who still thinks miles is a bad coach cus of a few clock management issues should read the the facts listed below.
read this and tell me les miles is not one of the best coach's we could hope to get.
miles record against jim tressel, bob stoops, urban myer, and nick saban, is 10-10 (I'll take a .500 record against those 4 guys any day of the week)
miles is 62-17 overall at LSU over the same time frame myer went 65-15 at FLA, (myer did win one more NC then miles but still pretty close in terms of overall record)
miles is 5-1 in bowl games and has out scored opposing teams 215-87!!!
he's 2-0 in BCS games! and how sweet is it that his NC came in the form of beating THE VEST!!!
plus his other BCS win came against ND! i know ND sucks but stiil cool that both BCS wins came against michigan rivals.
miles overall record as a head coach at LSU and OSU (not that osu) is 90-38 not too shabby a record when your playing in the SEC and the BIG 12.
SO EMBRACE THE CRAZY!!!! AND BRING ON THE HATTER!!!!
