Interesting article, DrewGOBLUE. Thanks.
There's a tremendous amount of controversy in the medical field regarding Osteopathic medicine. Not long ago, Chiropractors were vilified by Allopathic practitioners. The growth of Integrative Medicine, established at such places as Duke University, the University of Arizona and Scripps, raises all manner of debate among physicians. There is no set course to which all agree.
In general, younger S&C coaches would be more in agreement with the methods I'm proposing than older coaches. It would be interesting to talk with Aaron Wellman and see if his approach to training is entirely based on his own understanding of the best methods and practices, or if he is being constrained to work toward predetmined objectives from another level of decision making.
Do you know what I mean?
|17 hours 49 min ago||If this diary were a research paper||
If this diary were a research paper, it could be conservatively titled "Factors contributing to the statistically high incidence of injuries in the University of Michigan football program".
But from what I've observed, heard from inside the program, and learned through 24 years of intensive study and practice with clients, I'm speaking up for a higher level of competence which our football players deserve, and sticking with "Reason for so many injuries".

Athletic training evolves over time. Your question is legit.
When you study practices such as Olympic training, body building, power lifting, martial arts and yoga, just to name a few, you find tremendous diversity in methods people use to improve physical performance.
Who's right? This question must consider the practioners aims and goals. I find that martial arts and current Olympic training, which is centered on flexibility and dynamic movements that generate power (force with speed), is a much better model for football conditioning than widely popular but less athletic body building practices.

I would like to win against MSU, and beat Ohio, and be victorious in a bowl game, then celebrate by sending Der Schlockmeister and Uncle Hoke far, far away.
If DB brings back Vince Lombardi and Hoke wins the Super Bowl, they still are incompetent nincompoops. They smell like losers. We need a fresh start.
|3 days 15 hours ago||Hypo-thetic-ally speaking||
IF DER SCHLOCKMEISTER hired John or Jim I'd be pleased with his acomplishment, and still want him gone.
But then again, he's been good with the non-revenue sports. If he were to make a full confession that his policies have led to degrading and devaluing the U of M tradtition, which we've been building for almost two hundred years, and commit to totally change his ways, he might deserve another chance.
But now we're talking beyond the realm of hypothetical, and into the stratosphere of lunacy. Not gonna' happen.
Bottom line: The sooner he and Uncle Hoke are gone, the better.

Looked like the whole team came ready to play against Penn State. Now if they can take the intensity up even higher, we'll have a competitive game against MSU.

This young man has gotten up off the mat more than Rocky. His courage is a bright spot in this season.
Thanks again Devin.
|2 weeks 18 hours ago||The next AD||
The next AD needs to RESPECT the contributions of the many people, who over the course of almost two hundred years, have made the University of Michigan what it is today.
|2 weeks 18 hours ago||Okay, so Urb is smart and articulate||
Okay, so Urb is smart and articulate. That still leaves him light years behind people like George Allen, Paul Brown, Vince Lombardi or John Wooden. These coaches had a philosophy of life, a comprehensive sense of reality, a worldview that was fully integrated with their actions as winning coaches.
As a counselor and instructor, I study this. From what I've observed, John Harbaugh has that quality. If you take some time to listen and read his statements, you'll see why he is a perfect fit for Michigan, and you would not want to settle for less.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||John U Bacon||
John U Bacon guesses Brad Bates AD,and a Harbaugh for coach. Schissel cracks open the door for DB SCHLOCKMEISTER to walk out.
We are generating some SERIOUS positive waves here today, folks. I like that.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||With all due respect Voltron||
With all due respect Voltron, life is not factor analysis. As every gambler, or statistician knows, the best bet is that something which no one considered important becomes the deciding factor. That is: Expect the unexpected.
People downvoted me 10 months ago for talking about John Harbaugh becoming our coach. Look how events are trending now, regarding both John and Jim.
Have faith, bro.

Derrick Green, thank you for the great work you did.
Hold your head up, get good grades, and we look forward to you coming back even better next year.

That writer Bryan Gruley just topped Shakespeare, Edward R. Murrow, and Walter Kronkite put together. Don't you get it DB SCHLOCKMEISTER?
What each Wolverine has contributed for nearly two hundred years to build up the University of Michigan, you're trying to drag down to the commonplace in just a few.
Repent, and change your ways. Or go down in shame and ignomy, for evermore.

Could you redo my website?
|2 weeks 3 days ago||That kid with the headset||
That kid with the headset seems to have more going on upstairs than the man in front of him who's running the team.
I once referred to Brady Hoke as being "level headed". I've come to see: The flip side of that is being okay with losing. If Hoke stood up at a press conference and said: "Well, the kids played hard today. They executed with good technique. I'm not too concerned that it's our fifth loss in a row."--I don't think any of us would be too surprised.
While that might be emotionally healthy coaching grade school, or even high school, it doesn't stand the test of being measured against the spirit of Bo Schembeckler, who I believe set a standard every Wolverine must aim for.
There's a lot of "Quant Attitude" on this board; overemphasizing the analytical aspects of football. Whereas I believe conviction, determination and leadership rule the game.
This question could make for a very good, lively conversation.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||...that time is now. Good point.||
With Jim we could make the playoffs in 2-3 years.
On the other hand, with John we could build a winning tradition that grows stronger over the course of twenty years.
Considering the akward situations they're facing with their current teams, it would be human nature for both of them to be thinking about what it would be like: Coming home to be a hero.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||This entire discussion||
This entire discussion speaks to the ability of a head coach to install an effective system and instill a winning attitude. We all know our football players are not getting that type of positive experience. And they DESERVE such an opportunity. That's why they came to Michigan.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Interesting evaluation||
Interesting evaluation, but way too early.
When he gets a competent head coach, who doesn't leave him hurt and stumbling on the field, he will do okay. He's shown Devin Gardner-type courage. I like that.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||SCHLOCKMEISTER||
SCHLOCKMEISTER is now DB's official name. Thus it is written. Thus it shall be.
Please note: I am not trying to be unkind. This is not just about a loser coach who leaves people hurt and stumbling around on the field.
This is for DISRESPECTING our values and traditions, which we've been building for hundreds of years, and DB SCHLOCKMEISTER is trying to tear down in just a few.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Give DB a nickname||
Give DB a nickname that graphically and memorably sums up his identity. Everyone use this name when referring to him. Continue this until the media picks it up; they love quick, catchy quotes. Use this name whenever you refer to him. Chant THIS in the stadium:
D B SCHLOCKMEISTER
|2 weeks 5 days ago||I support our athletes||
I support our athletes in all sports, men and women, but especially football, through the ups and downs. I always feel fortunate to be a Wolverine.
Brady Hoke had his chance this year. I will not forget him leaving Shane Morris out there on the field, hurt and stumbling around. That was one of the worst moments in sports. Anytime. Anywhere.
For those of us who attended the University of Michigan, and all our fellow Wolverines in spirit, we have every right, even an obligation to request--to insist--to demand that Brady Hoke leave Ann Arbor right now.
I said now, Brady. Leave. Go away. Take schlockmeister DB with you, and let us pull things back together. We will do okay.

The University of Michigan is my alma mater. I always feel fortunate to be a Wolverine. I will stick with our athletes, especially football, through thick and thin.
Brady, it is time to go. Leave. And take that schlockmeister DB with you.
Brady Hoke, leave Ann Arbor. Go away. Now! We will pull things back together. We will be okay.

Or we're you just doing a great impression of Brady Hoke?

Thanks LSA Superstar. Nice work. Devin Gardner deserves our support. Hope he gets to see this.
I also hope Devin sees the field a little better, and can experience what the pros describe when, "The game slows down."
Incidentally, this is what martial artists train themselves to do, and which I personally experienced during a motorcycle accident when a careless driver pulled right in front of me.

|2 weeks 6 days ago||John and Jim||
John and Jim are both contending with problems that could make the Michigan job a welcome opportunity to step out of an akward situation, and come home to be a hero.
For a number of reasons, I would rather talk about a Harbaugh, especially John, than whisper about Les Miles, though Coach Miles does know how to win.

He was selected by the students for the 2009 Golden Apple award, which is given for being an exceptional teacher. That says a lot.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||You would think||
You would think that Dave Brandon would have a better sense of the University of Michigan's role in upholding and conveying important values.
I've been patient in my evaluation of DB. He has repeatedly positioned himself, not as a caretaker of values, not being of service to the University, but as a self-important, whiz bang, schlockmeister-in-chief. He has made his bed, and now he can "lie" in it.
I once noted here that "Maize is better than screaming-dayglow yellow." That's a graphic example of his deficient sense of vision, in every sense of the word.
Someone send Schlissel a big broom.
