I think Brian Kelly and Greg Schiano's layer of dirt is too low. Way too low for Schiano. Bucs players and administration hate him.
|1 week 4 days ago||I wish Brian's official||
I wish Brian's official stance were that he wanted Stitt as OC. I haven't heard a word about what he can do for defense, he's admitted he'd be interested in a carte blanche OC position, let's face it--he's not proven at anywhere close to the Div-I level, and it's 10 times more realistic, which is to say a 1% chance of happening. He could be Gus Malzahn 2.0 or Gerry Faust 2.0. Malzahn was an OC first though.

This is why I don't trust anyone from Saban's coaching tree. I do think Nussmeier is a good coach, but only because of his extensive track record.

Devil's advocate here. Fast food companies can actually flourish in a recession. There are many reasons I won't get into why this is so. For examples, see McDonald's and Little Caesar's Pizza. So I think Domino's absolutely dropped the ball in 2007.

The best way Hoke and Brandon can earn their salaries until the day they are fired is to stop talking to anyone that is recording what they say. Not even a word.

Remember when Dave Brandon wouldn't humor any coaching candidate other than Hoke? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||You should add "has a||
You should add "has a coaching tree". This means he knows how to mold coaches and should have a smooth transition to the next guy. That's one of the most desperate needs right now. No more scandalous and divisive coaching searches. Let's know who's up next ahead of time for the first time since 1994. I don't know if he's the best candidate, but he's miles better than any other older guys.

Translation: We haven't fired Brandon yet, wink wink.
I mean, connect the dots. Nobody's heard from the AD (including Coach Hoke) since the loss. It all makes too much sense.

As a confessed aggressively reasonable person, I still don't get why, as I was reminded on twitter this morning, the coaching staff hid Taylor Lewan's helmet from him last year to keep him off the field after a head injury but they didn't use anything approaching a decision flowchart here. I think the only explanation is the pressure has gotten to Hoke and his decision making is suffering for it (see: holding Morris in too long just purely on a performance level).

Tom Brady and Bill Belichick made Charlie Weis a LOT of money.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||That's why the rivalry is so||
That's why the rivalry is so good. It isn't either school's #1 rivalry, but it is consistently a good game and an interesting game, and the bragging rights are much bigger. Everyone M fan knows an ND fan and vice versa, but every ND fan doesn't know a USC fan or vice versa.
I don't think many schools have a rivalry like MICH-ND, but a lot of schools have a rivalry like MICH-OSU, ND-USC or MICH-MSU.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||You throw it up for grabs||
You throw it up for grabs 15-25 yards downfield in a place where somebody is guaranteed to catch it, hopefully your guy. But if not, the DB won't be able to help himself if it's there, so it's easier and better than a pooch punt.
Clock stops on change of possession, so running doesn't matter unless it's your best chance at a first down. The actual running of a long pass play probably kills more time than anything but a 50+ yard run.

Haven't heard anyone mention the 2013 NC game yet.
Compared to that game, which ended 42-14, ND's defense is worse all around and Nussmeier's offense is worse in the OL, better at QB and #1 WR, same-ish everywhere else according to this guy. It will be an interesting game.

I'm not sure that's the analogy you want to use after Borges was just quoted above as saying he didn't want to get into a game of chess.
|7 weeks 3 days ago||The worst thing about Borges,||
The worst thing about Borges, especially with the tackle over stuff, was when his logic would be so transparent that there would be no question why he was doing something. It was only then that you could under no uncertain terms tell that his decision making did not go more than one level deep.
"What if we put our least effective linemen on one side of the field and run to the other so that they can't hurt the play?"
"What if we draw a big arrow on the field like John Madden, indicating exactly where the play is going?"
Even in tic tac toe, there is the concept of a counter move, but not in Al Borges' version.

To piggyback on this, most think the DL is better this year than last year and the OL certainly didn't play any worse than last year's scrimmage, faint praise that may be. Can/should this information lead one to conclude the OL is in fact incrementally better than last year?
|8 weeks 6 days ago||I would love to see this site||
I would love to see this site move to Drupal 7, as the interface has kind of run its course. Or, it would be really neat to see Brian leverage his stature in the blogging scene to start an open source sports blog project based on Reddit's open source codebase or something. I mention it in part because he once singled that out as a commenting system he likes. I imagine that a lot of coders that wouldn't necessarily donate their money would donate their time to making this the best sports site on the Internet if this site went open source.
On the other hand, this is already a great site, so rocking the boat is a gamble.

Next year I expect explosions and velociraptor attacks in your offseason "worst case scenario" prediction. The worst you could come up with this year with was clearly not pessimistic or imaginative enough.
