King of Belch.....good thing you are not in control of the football program or we'd really be screwed. Looking at this season, given we start so many freshman and sophomores, and our defense is young and extremely thin (and generally lacks talent beyong Graham, Warren, Martin and Roh), I think 5-5 is right where we ought to be. Problem is everyone expects RR to do so much with so little.....and everyone wants everything now. I'd rather take two steps back, albeit painful, and come out better in the end. RR deserves the time to build his program, and going from an obsolete, stale style of football to what he wants to do will take time. Anyone who wants a winner in year 2 should hold on....next year will be the year we make strides. Those calling for RR to be fired just don't get it.
I got banned from creating new diaries because I brought up the topic of people bitching on this site about spelling and GRAMMAR! This is a football blog and you should be able to say anything you want (short of threatening somebody).
Guys - did I mis-spell anything?
There's various articles on the web this morning on this.....he has a sore ankle and supposedly he was feeling some pain, so RR decided to keep him out. 3 rushes for I think 21 yards, then he sat.
So you place the same level of scrutiny with what you post on this blog as you do with how you communicate at work?
Apples:Oranges here…don't you think....
This is supposed to be a freakin' football blog!!!
Good question, and I guess my answer is both (to find out about the freshman and to take a shot at the pettiness of this site).
I guess I've been reading this blog for over a year now and it's gone down hill...from being focused solely on football to now taking shots at blog's that contain typos.
Big M Football fan...
Not so much a fan of this blog anymore...
I would recommend changing this from “MGoBlog” to “Webster's Blog” or something similar as I have obviously mistaken this for a football blog....
Brian - can you make that happen?
Seriously - who, gives a f&*% about a typo! Good God!
to tell, but Beilein has done a good job to date making sure the team is prepared each game. I don't think we'll know much until we get into the Big Ten season. I think the Maryland game is winnable, Duke is more than likely a loss (but it's at home I believe and anything can happen, especially since they have seen the Dukies once already), and I think UConn is a definate loss - too many athletes on that team. Anyhow, 5 wins to date is a great start and the field of 64 is a definate possibility.
Fair weather fans suck.....I still love my Wolverines. I have no doubt the program is headed in the right direction and can't wait to see UofM hoist the Nat'l Championship trophy again.
I hope they keep chunky around....I like my "Charlie Weis should probably eat less" t-shirt too much for him to get fired. Great recruiter but his bariatric ass can't couach a lick.
Baleedat is right...dude, you can't talk shit until you start kicking some ass. I know you're probably tying to "keep it real" but have some fucking sense!
Nice write-up and I agree - next year will be completely different. I can't wait until RichRod throws 70 on someone and also can't wait until he gets his first win against tOSU. I guarantee most educated tOSU fans are apprehensive about the future of M football and would rather have Lloyd than RR running the program.
The good thing is they all were redshirted so they all have 4 years of eligibility. Also don't forget about Dan O'Neil. I think a lot of these kids come in with the right frame but may lack the strength to play based on their position. For example - Dan O'Neil is 6'8" and weighs 290+ lbs. But he only benches 275 lbs. By comparison Will Johnson benches 550+ plus lbs., so you see how much strength Dan O'Neil lacks. I think a lot of freshmen who plan on the O or D line, or who play linebacker, are not strong enough to play and require a year of intense weighlifting at the college level to get them prepared.
You are correct that the only players we lost were Hill and Weatherspoon.
That's the hand that RichRod was dealt. When he has a real quarterback to run the offense (sorry Nick - god bless you but you just don't have the talent it takes to run this offense) you'll see things opened up a bit. I tell you, RichRod won at WVU with 2 and 3 star recruits. When he has a team loaded with 3, 4 and 5 star recruits watch out. He'll get the last laugh.
Things will get better. Look at the talent tOSU has and they were averaging 333 yards per game going into the game today - 10th in the Big10 (we all know who is number 11...). RichRod has proven to do more with less throughout his career and with the Michigan brand and facilities will have in the next year or two I think things will be turned around soon as he will have no problem recruiting athletes to A2.
I too hate losing to Ohio State, and I hate Jim Tressel. Thank god he had a heavy coat on today so we did not have to see that fucking sweater vest / tie combo.
Are there any other kids on the fence? I think Forcier is solid (Michigan roots, he knows he can come in and compete right away) so I'm not concerned about him. What about Beaver? I know there's a lot of recruiting left to do but we've had nothing but bad news for the last 6-8 weeks on the recruiting front. I'm holding my breath that we have a strong finish and get Will Campbell, Jelani Jenkins, Reuben Randle, Vladimir Emilien, etc.
Rich Rod will be fine......we've been in every stinking game this year, we just can't make the plays when the game is on the line. When we have a mobile QB (think Chase Daniel or Colt McCoy) who can run this team things will click. Remember we have Top 10 recruiting classes every years so it's not like we have a lack of talent. We just need the right talent for the scheme Rich Rod wants to run.
Jelani Jenkins, Rueben Randle, Eugene Smith, Dre Kirkpatrick, Donavan Tate....all top notch recruits that have M listed as in the running. We could end up having a stellar class yet. Remember, RichRod pulled off some late magic last year on signing day.
Yes there will be improvement - I'm just not sold that Threet will make the offense click. Defenses know he's not a running threat on a consistent basis so that shuts down the rest of the running game as the D can put more focus on stopping our running backs. And with Freshmen QB's (Forcier or Beav) there will be some growing pains. The upside is that both will be on campus in December which goes a long way in terms of adjusting to college and learning the offense. It should be interesting.
Regarding the D - I think Van Bergen and Martin will be stars (same with Cissoko). And there are some freshmen who haven't played that I think will be solid as well (Demens and Fitzgerald). But linebacker could be scary...we lost 2 strong recruits this year ('Spoon and Hill) so we're not as deep at LB as you would think.
Good point.....I think Threet has shown improvement this year, he'll just never be the mobile type qb this offense needs. Ideally we need a McNabb-type qb (great thrower and runner) and I don't think Threet is that guy.
I believe Forcier will be on campus in December.....plenty of time to learn the offense and push Threet. But still a freshman.....!
Huh? The kid's dad is from Michigan and has been a M fan his whole life. He sees this as an opportunity to come in and play right away. How well he does, only time will tell.......but I don't think this kid is going anywhere else. Unless you know something I don't....

Now regarding Schafer, he needs to go. Now.
What about the positives?

Uccello's is a great place to watch the game.
Go downtown by the Van Andel and there are plenty of sprts bars too and a good crowd once the sun goes down.
