Coach Nuss & Staffing Decisions

Perhaps what Brady Hoke told Coach Nuss was that he could not come in and restaff the offensive coaches . . . . .

until he had spent at least one season getting to know them and evaluate them.

Heresy?

I think the offense would be better if DG stayed at quarterback and Denard moved to a slot receiver/"man of all purposes" position?

I ask that because the passing offense seemed to work better under DG, plus the backs will take handoffs going downhill, instead of that "veer" system which has the running back going sideways.

One Player

This is the problem with building a team through recruitment that over-relies on one player.  Because of this over-reliance on Denard, we run an ofense where the running back is running sideways for a handoff.  The running back should go sideways for a pitchout sweep, but for inside the tackles, quickness and power are key elements so the running back should be powering downhill.

I als think the ND interceptions did a lot of damage to our passing attack, so guess where defenses are focusing?

We are running our backs sidesways into a defense that is looking for just that.  If the D linemen hold their own, the linebackers fill the gaps and ..... that's it, folks.

I know I am not a coaching/tactics guru, so this is just my simplistic view.

Offense Problem

The offensive running game seems to be built around:

running the back sideways, and

Denard countering North-South

The problem with that is that it seems to be designed around the Q-back.

Why do you want your running back running sideways?

If Denard is injured,

a sideways running back is not much of a threat with a backup quarterback in the game.

My suggestion:

Build a solid offense, make the players play to that, not one built around a single player.

That is the way the M defense is developing.

Michigan will be

. . . . . .   Businesslke.

That says it all.

Hoke-speak.

Can't suceed because

He won't get Greg Mattison back.

DEFENSE wins championships.  Greg is a builder of championship defenses.

Buckeyes

That's typical behavior for those cretins.  Expect no less when you go there.  They will throw full beer cans at old women in Michigan colors.  They wil slash the tires of car with MI plates.  It's a war.

OHIO Fans

Are so anal and childish, also rude and inconsiderate.  Completely obsessed.

ManBall Part 78

Do you not believe in heaters on the sidelines?

“Um … I don’t know. I mean, if they had heaters on the sideline, they’d build them into the sideline, right?”

Great Quote

It’s a finishing game.”

Translation:  We will finish Ohio.

Great Interviewer

Everybody knows about the losing streak. How much does that hang over your psyche?

“To be honest with you, I haven’t talked about that at all with our team, and I probably won’t. We’ve got educated young men. They’re here at a great university, and I think me telling them that would probably insult them and their intelligence.”

How smooth to the radioheads, and complimentary to the players.

Coaches who "Get It"

Don't forget DC Greg Mattison.  He gets it.  Big time.

Defense 2011

Trust in Greg Mattison.  He knows how to build.  Whatever happens in 2011 will be an improvement.  As will 2012.  As will 2013.   Reach for the stars . . . . . . .

Michigan's Response

Drop your pants and prepare for a tatoo.

This Fall

A comment:  "I think that one of the biggest if not thee biggest improvement for this coming Fall will be the play of our special teams units especially our kicking game."

Remember that Brady Hoke has an excellent reputation for developing teams that are very solid in the basics.  Tackling, fielding punts, kicking field goals, punt coverage,  . . .  etc.

Special teams SHOULD show a significant improvement this year.

TP

Give it a rest!!!!!

We are so lucky to have gotten Denard Robinson.

F*&% TP!!

Hoke & Mattison

They only need to be themselves.  No negative recruiting.

The Michigan traditiona and excellent academics will do just fine in the recruiting arena.  We need  . . . .

Student-athletes with character, integrity and intelligence.

Exactly the opposite of characters like TP.

SI Article

I wonder if OSU traded Tressel's head for the SI article, and the article wil be withheld/not printed???  It may have had so many ugly facts that OSU wanted the NCAA to do their own digging.

On Memorial Day

Buckeye nuts, roasting on an open fire . . .

JT

Haven't we all noticed how a vacuum attracts dirt and debris?

JT and OSU live in a moral vacuum, and they reap as they have sowed.

Even Kirk Herbstreit can't surivive it.

Denard's Productivity

Denard sat on the bench his first year.  Denard was B1G player of the year his second year.

That demonstrates a tremendous rate of growth, development and maturity.

So I have no fear of Denard falering.  If his demonstrated growth rate continues, he will make a lot of great and key plays, while spreading the ball around for more offensive productivity.

A better offense with an improving quarterback.  An improving defense.  Almost all the starters returning.  There's a lot to like about this upcoming season.

What's the Problem?

Tosu can distribute and sell their pants.

Just give out Brown Underwear.

Denard and New Offense

What Mandel forgets is how much progress Denard made his Sophomore year.  He began as an adequate starter and ended up Big Ten POY.

Asuming this demonstrates Denard's tremendous ability to grow and develop, then in 2011 he will start as barely the pro-set starter and end the season @#$%^&*() whoa.a.a.a.a.a.a. turning out the lights on some really good teams.  Do not think Denard will be in the Fall where he is now in the Spring.  He will develop handsomely and be great.  That's my belief.

From BB to FB

If Bruce Pearl gets fired for what he did, what might happen to Sir Teflon Sweatervest who lied many many times over an issue of far greater significance than "who attended my barbeque...".

2 Ways

Coach Tressel:

"I also apologize because I'm going to have some sanctions. But the mission doesn't change. That's the pledge I have to you. The mission I've always had is we make sure we help young people change their lives".

We all know that there are two ways you can take that statement.  Learn here about Tattoo U!

NCAA Response to LiarGate

Slow . . . . . . . . . slow . . . . . . the slower, the better . . . . . . for the NCAA inquiry.

OSU needs to stew for at least 7 months, after which it will be very tender and juicy.

A NCAA ruling in early October 2011 would be just fine.

Defense

Very very physical, aggressive defense.

A defense that, when somebody comes out on that field, they know their in a war."

The other point of pride is having excellent technique.

-----------WAR!!!!!! on defense-----------

D & D

D (Denard):  If he progresses this year anywhere near his improvement from Freshman to Sophomore year (backup to Offensive Player fo the Year), then there is no reason to worry.  He needs to stay healthy for the second half of the season, when the going gets tough and the games get bigger.  T Pryor can dominate with his mouth, but Denard dominates with his performance, his attitude, his heart, and . . . that smile.

D (Defense):  Can only get better.  The only question is by how much.  If there was a lot of "misutilization" and under-coaching from the prior staff, then Greg Mattison will have a significant impact, since he obviously understands how to coach and run a defense.  It would be just a giant kick in the @#$%^#$%@ to see MM and WC clean some clocks next year.

Oversigning

Yes, those SEC coaches will defend oversigning, because they are protecting "The System" and their meat-market-win-at-all-costs attitude.  Hell, who wants a walk on?  Load up on the prime stuff!  Values?  Who needs values?

However, if there is some concern for the student athlete, as in "we want you to be a scholar-athlete, not just prime beef on the hoof" . . . .. then the Big 10 approach is more civiized, humane, and meaningful.

Respect?

This BB team plays with intensity, has a good transition game, can play good defense, and handles the ball well.  As they improve, they will get the respect.  Yes there isn't much of it available now, but that is due to past performance rather than where they are now.  They are also a young team, and need to learn some of the basic lessons of college ball (make your free throws!!!) before getting the media attention.  I think tht if they had beaten Wisconsin, tonight's ESPN coverage would have been different.

Brady Hoke

This is my first post.  Here are a few opinions I wanted to share.

The BH hiring shows me that RR was an offensive expert but mediocre with special teams and really poor with defense.  This years games against Michigan State, Wisconsin, The ohio state (Tosu), and Missisippi State prove this.  David Brandon believes that "Defense Wins Championships" is a mantra that will always be true, and he decided that RR was not of this ilk.  Hence the Brady Hoke hire.  Look at the staff assembled, and their salaries, and all of that is consistent with the "Defense Wins Championships" mantra.

I would like to add one other thing in response to all those blue-bleeding fanatics who are ravenous for wins at all cost, National Championships and all that, and so BH was a poor hire.  Much as I like to see wins all the times, I have to say CRAP on that attitude!  If you look at quite a few programs that have pursued the win-at-all-costs attitude, you will develop a list that includes USC football, Tennessee football and basketball, TCU football, tOSU football, Oklahoma basketball.  All of these have shown that absolute power ($$$$$) (or the blind pursuit of it) corrupts absolutely.  Returning Michigan to a solid winning football team, one that competes for championships, but is not corrupted by the gigantic temptations that surround big time college atheltics, requires a tremendous amount of team and coaching staff discipline and integrity.

I believe that BH "fits the bill."  It looks like he has assembled a very good staff, with a defensive coordinator that I think everyone will respect as absolutely excellent.  Also, the current team remains intact with no attrition.  BH didn't scare anyone off.  That speaks greatly for the near term future of this team.

So lets provide some support!!
