Don't give up on Gibbons

He's only a RS Freshman and Cornblue, I believe, has said it takes a HS kicker 2 years to get used to kicking the ball off the ground.

Would love to know if anyone has any statistics on recent BSC kickers and what class they are in.  Got to believe that like many other positions it is unusual for a underclassman to excel early on.

I'm not saying we shouldn't be looking to add another kicker, just that Gibbons still could surprise us.

Competent DC???

I think Gerg is more than competent, but I believe not having his own staff and being able to run his own defense puts him at a clear disadvantage.

With RR bringing in most of his defensive staff from WV, I think it puts any DC at a disadvantage unless they are all on the same page.  I think the best senerio for RR is to bring in Jeff Casteel.

I know some will say that the 3-3-5 will not work in the Big Ten, but I think it would work much better than what Shafer and Gerg have been able to do with a staff that may not be in sync with.

I believe bringing Casteel will bring some synergy to the defense.  They all know each other from their WV days and this in itself would, in my opinion, make our defense more competitive.

Check out this OSU Tattoo article from last year

Something tells me this has been going on for a while!

Kicking off the Ground

I seem to recall someone, possible Cornblue mentioning that it take a HS placekicker two years to get acclimated to kicking off the ground.  If this is true, what are the possibilities that another true freshman comes in and can kick?

I'm curious if anyone can dig up who the best current placekickers are in the BCS and what class their in.  I would guess that most would be Juniors or Seniors.

Another Question for Researchers

Can anyone find any current info on placekickers?  Specifically, are there any good kickers presently in D1 that are Freshman or RS Freshman?  Reason I'm asking is because many people want to write off Brandon Gibbons, but wonder if it is realistic for a kid to come right out of HS to kick well.  Seem to remember someone saying (could have been Cornblue) it takes a HS kicker at least two years to get used to kicking off the ground.

Is there any place to find the present top placekickers and what year they are?

Could he lead the team out on

Could he lead the team out on the field in Columbus?  Not sure how this would come across to the bucknuts.  They could give him a standing ovation or would they deem him a traitor?

They'll play for...

The Little Brown Cornhole

and will crown a "Miss Corn Teeth" at halftime.

A Cheer for Brock

I'm hoping to get a ticket to the game, so I can see Brock lead the team out of the tunnel.  Something that my brother and I were talking about that we think would be way cool, is to start a cheer,

"Brock Mealer clap, clap, clap, clap, clap. Brock Mealer clap, clap, clap ,clap, clap."

I get goosebumps just thinking about it!

Go Brock and Go Blue!!!

How about...

Graham

Fritz

Carter

Blue

My favorite is... when he mentions how smooth an infielder is and spells it out, "He's S-M-O-O-V-E smoove!" And Rod going all Yakety Sax in Japan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSxFl3le25o Almost as fun as listening to Harry Caray saying a players name backwards. "Doc Gooden,,,,Gooden spelled backwards is Nedoog" Man, I miss Harry!
Wish you well Manny, but Wish you well Manny, but believe another year would have done you good. (Just ask Eric Turner) I know I just dated myself with that statement. As for the team, possibly a blessing in disguise. I have thought about the fight that Manny got into a couple of months back in practice and wonder how much more of this was not talked about? The team needs to be unified and if Manny was getting in the way of this, then I say it's time to go. Michigan needs someone to come in and lead this team!
Great Post, Question though Excellent Post! I've been a viewer of the blog for a long time, but felt with all the negative comments on RR, I needed to register with the site and give me two cents. Question for you and I apologize if someone has already asked this, but of those that left the team, how many were before RR was even hired? I think this would be an interesting stat. Again thanks for putting in the time to get us this info! Go blue!
