Miami in Super Bowl XXIX and Denver in XXIV just weren't in the same league. Not to say Montana wasn't damn good, though, but I think the 49ers would have won with a lesser quarterback.
Of the two close Super Bowls Montana and the 49ers won (both against the Bengals), Montana played more of a game manager role in the first one. Many of the big plays in that game came from the defense, including a goal line stand. It was only in the second game against the Bengals that I think Montana was critical.
All of Brady's Super Bowls, on the other hand, were close. The Patriots could have easily lost five or even all six with an inferior quarterback.

Old Vine Zinfandel. 2013, I think.

The recovered fumble was in the first quarter.

As he said, he saw it first hand with Jake Rudock.

Caused him to leave in the first place. He might have been concerned about that situation (which would not have been unreasonable), and with the opportunity to work under Harbaugh he took the Michigan job.
Now that the USC coaching situation has cleared up, he may be missing the weather out west.

Aside from that early win against Stanford, anyway (and I guess the 27-0 win over Minnesota). They won a lot of close games and got routed by Michigan and Iowa.

There is no way he's going to be using anything except real goddamn butter.

"They [Michigan] were very predictable. When they got down to the goal line, anytime they went in motion, it was an 100 percent tendency that they would run to the motion. We knew exactly what they were doing."

It was a disaster. If I remember correctly, Bo started recruiting scholarship kickers for the next season. He apparently had used walk-ons before.

After Denard in the depth chart was Nick Sheridan and then David Cone. He'd have burned it in the Iowa game when Tate was hurt and we still had a chance to win.
Besides, Denard ended up playing in all 12 games.

For destroying the Lions.
I think Batch was one of his best draft choices, and he was a career backup.
|6 weeks 6 days ago||Did you see the Utah-BYU game?||
Utah put up 35 points thanks to turnovers without getting 200 yards of offense.
I'm not saying this will happen by any means, but if they win that's their path to victory. Turnovers, and big plays on special teams (like the 85 yard punt return they had against Alabama).

Remember, they were 12-1 in 2010 and had lost their senior quarterback, their coach and several other key players for all or most of the season. They also didn't figure out until mid-season that their best option at quarterback was a freshman Braxton Miller.

I think it's safe to call it a near loss.

From Hoke's perspective, this is a step down and a bitter reminder of his dream job gone bad.
From Harbaugh's perspective, bringing in the previous head coach so soon is likely to lead to problems. Remember, Hoke just got fired. Why take the risk that Hoke doesn't get along with the new coaching staff? Why take the risk that Hoke is still bitter about being fired? Why take the risk that Hoke undermines his authority (consciously or not)? There's really no upside for Harbaugh to hire Hoke.
Also, Hoke hasn't been a DC at the college level (per Wikipedia he was for two years at an Indiana high school in the early eighties--link).
Mattison is a different story; he doesn't have his ego invested in the DC position the way Hoke did in the head coach position and is more interested in staying close to his family in Ann Arbor.

They scored a touchdown with a couple of minutes left, but needed to go for 2 to tie. They couldn't get it and lost by 2.

Who were wrong about Harbaugh in both 2011 and 2014. Even if they are talking (which I'm inclined to doubt), I won't believe this happens until there's a signed contract.
Even if they *are* talking, the most likely explanation is that Meyer or his agent want a big fat contract extension.
|9 weeks 1 day ago||He was already gone by then||
More specifically, he was already the DC at Colorado in 1968, so he couldn't have been retained (link).

Whatever it was.
Remember, the reason that Tressell ultimately lost his job was that he found out what Pryor and crew had been doing and proceeded to lie about it.

I guess he was fine as long as he wasn't talking about Notre Dame, or teams that had played Notre Dame, or teams that might play Notre Dame, or schools where Skip was coaching, or the schools Skip was coaching against, but...
