Heptarch lacks knowledge

Heptarch lacks knowledge understanding football.

Zero 5 stars played in the Super Bowl. Plenty of 2-3 stars DID play in the super bowl. The type of "stars" Jay Harbaugh should "check" his enthusiasm on...

Coach Brown, any idea if you

Coach Brown, any idea if you will be able to get in touch with Sills to hear his thoughts on the offer and how much he will consider it? Thanks!

Lol

Lulz at all the people trying to tell BB how to do his work. This is hilarous, so many recruiting experts in this thread! Wow, what a gong show this thread is...

So are you trying to tell me

So are you trying to tell me that our LB's, heck one of them out of the 5 that played this year was better than Frank Clark this year? I almost want to be a dick to you, but I won't.

It doesn't take much to be bettter then what that unit brought this year, but Frank Clark by him self was far and away much better. Heitlzmen and the likes played right on par with the LB unit. And then when you factor in Clark's play it wasn't close.

And yes Magnus if he is indeed a football coach, which I believe to be true should never be using stats as an indicator of O or Dline play. Shame on him... Truth be told I don't think you'll understand what I'm getting at though.

Hmmm, a guy that coaches

Hmmm, a guy that coaches football who is a stat's watcher. Not good...

Simple, a position that only

Simple, a position that only has two bodies on the field at a time one of them was solid. That is 50%.

When Michigan had 3 LB's on the field this year not one of them was solid, and that includes Jake Ryan who really lacked his lateral, and quick twitch explosiveness coming back from the injury. The LB's weren't a position of strength this year what so much ever.

DE and CB were the best units

DE and CB were the best units on this squad defensively this year. S, DT, and LB were the weak spots.

Ben Gedeon was right up there

Ben Gedeon was right up there with Delano Hill as two of my favorite recruits last year. But Gedeon did not play well against OSU. He was a huge problem out there defensively.

As far as the LBing unit goes, any one who thinks this unit was decent doesn't know what good LB play looks like. They were a sub par unit all year.

I'll try to break these Oline

I'll try to break these Oline calls down. If SC comes back he can clear them all up, because I could be wrong.

Blunt- The backside Tackle is going to protect the void that the backside Guard is pulling from. His first step is going to be playside with his right foot, he will check the 3 tech to make sure he doesn't shoot on the pulling Guards hip and disrupt the play and then hinge step with his outside foot to kind of form a pocket and take on the weakside 5 tech.

Me- Means the Center has the 1 tech or 3 tech to the backside all alone.

Now the combo block.

Eat Back- "Back" says that either he(playside Tackle) or the TE are going to work back to the Will. If the LB comes underneath the Tackle will have him, if he works over the top the TE will come off the combo block and he has him. "Eat" refers to him having to step playside and reach the 5 tech first with the TE before one of them can leave. "Eat" means the TE is working with him.

Tag Back- "Back" same thing as above but now he is working with the Guard to the Will. "Tag" refers to stepping down right away instead of out like he would to a DE. The Guard is now the covered man so he is going to Tag with the playside G and that is the combo block back to the Will.

Stack- Means that the playside Tackle is covered and that this is where the combo is going to occur with the TE on a 5 tech. If you look at the shades(alingments of the defenders) and use uncovered or covered rules, if the Tackle is covered by some one, for eg a 5 tech that means he and the TE are working together. If the Tackle isn't covered, but rather the guard is by a 3 tech, then Tag Back comes into play.

Really what needs to be concentrated on and is the most important call is between playside Guard, Tackle, and the TE. Based upon whether or not the Tackle is covered or not covered by defensive alignment is going to determine the differing line calls.

Hope this helps, SC can probably clear some more up if he comes back.

52's Mike

Calling out the Mike is actually on Olinemen related thing. Based upon the game plan for that week and protection's that have been drawn up saying who is the Mike tells the Olinemen where to begin there pass protection slide, and where the RB is going to help if he is.

The Mike when being called out by the QB or Center doesn't always have to be the actual Mike backer, for eg a team could call James Ross or Morgan the MIke even though one is the Will, depending upon how they want to protect and what 5 guys the Oline are responsible for.

Then again you probably already knew all this.

Funchess: Occupy a safety

Funchess: Occupy a safety without going downfield as an ineligible receiver. (Wait what?)

Well actually because the play is a run Funchess is allowed to release downfield. No such thing as ineligible receiver downfield when the play called is a run.

Make the block

At the end of the debate it is as simple as this, Kerridge needs to make that damn block. The play call was perfect. Now the question is, did Michigan practice Kerridge making that block vs a force player, and a blitz player? My guess is no, and that falls on poor coaching. Not a single one of Fred Jackson's position players can block. Is this a coincidence, or just plain old bad coaching by Fred Jackson? I say bad coaching by Fred Jackson. A FB needs to be able to make that block.

Btw poster who went into a long tangent about Stanford's simple run scheme a page back, their power run scheme is pretty much identical to Michigans. Backside guard pulls to playside Mike or Sam, H back or F Back kick out the EMOLS if the play isn't some sort of read power. Gap back to the Will, yada, yada, yada.
