|1 week 5 days ago||Successful team||
It seems to me he really doesn't care about sports, and he's definitely been emphasizing the fact the Michigan is a University first that has some students who also play sports. I feel like this stance doesn't neccessarily mean bad things for the football team, but it certainly feels more likely to mean bad things than good things.
How many programs out there compete for national championships and run a department truly based on integrity. If you're gonna say that letting athletes slide by or get held to a lower standard academically is a violation of integrity, than I think that answer is nobody, including us. Our offenses are probably not as aggregious as others, but still.
Schlissel's saying the right things, and so far I like him, just like it seems most people around here do. But the quotes from him in this article look like he doesn't recognize the importance of a successfull football team for the university, but then again maybe it isn't that important after all. Hopefully he's just navigating this situation with right amount of tact.

I thought we weren't calling it a CEO anymore, Brandon's out, he was the CEO. We want an athletic director.

I think Gulogulo is right here, even if he's being an asshole, especially because safeties are the last line of defense, watch the clip again, if Wilson doesn't make the tackle, there's nobody else there. If that's a quick and fast player, like a slot reciever, instead of a tight end, he's got a lot of yards because Wilson was in bad position.

Bring back Barwis!
Injuries happen, it feels like it's been a lot, but look at the NFL, countless injuries every team, every week.
But seriously, bring back Barwis.
|6 weeks 19 hours ago||Bo||
You mentioned Bo being gone and not coming back in the OP. It made me think, I guess you can say Lloyd's last years were a decline, which is mostly true, but we really fell apart when Bo died. I was born in '87 so I don't really remember Schembechler, I've seen pictures and heard recordings of the speeches, but I was raised and came of age on Lloyd Carr's teams.
I don't know what my point is, but, I guess we lost our way when he died. I've never really felt all that attached to Bo or what he meant to the program because I didn't experience him as a person or coach, but he obviously meant a lot, and I suddenly feel like I wish I'd had that experience. The kind of infighting and bad mouthing we've seen from everybody over the last few years is dissapointing. I agree we don't need a 'Michigan Man', whatever that is, and I've read opinions from others' on this blog arguing that Bo never really said we did. It seems too many of our community didn't learn enough from that man.

I seriously started doubting the coaching staff in year 2. When Denard got hurt, and Bellomy threw (4 or 5?) interceptions and the guy who should've been our backup quarterback was playing reciever and not prepared to take over. I couldn't believe that they seriously considered Bellomy a good enough backup.
Then they decided to use Denard as a running back, except they only put him on the field when he was going to get the ball. Maybe an overstatement, but it felt like ANY time he was on the field, he got the ball, and every defense we played knew it. For the rest of that season, if Denard was on the field, key on him because he's getting the ball. They only put him on the field when they were gonna give him the ball, than they took him off the field. In a way I thought that Denard's injury could be a blessing in disguise, because it would let Devin get experience and allow us to have an incredibly dynamic backfield with Devin and Denard out there at the same time. Borges and Hoke totally blew that situation.
Those two things put doubts in my mind about the judgement and ability of the staff, and, obviously, things have gone downhill since.

This is a totally irrelevent issue, man. Also, I think Hoke looks like he's lost some weight this year.
|6 weeks 4 days ago||Quote||
Don't remember if it was a quote, but there was definitely a line in that article saying he'd consider being an OC on the condition that he had complete control over the offense.

|6 weeks 6 days ago||I hadn't seen this yet||
I liked it, reading this made me want him at Michigan more. During last coaching search I just though he was a dick, which maybe he is, but assuming that article is true, he's really not. Reading that made me think he's exactly the kind of coach we need.
Also, I'm pretty tired of the whole 'no way Miles or Harbaugh comes to Michigan' idea. Why not? I'll give you that the AD is a mess right now, but there are boatloads of young talent on this team, I believe the right coach could turn them into a juggernaut. None of us really know what those guys are thinking, but for all we know they could be as dedicated to Michigan as many of us are. Then again maybe Jim hated growing up Ann Arbor and has no interest in returning. Finally, I think there are some guys that just prefer to coach college, look at Saban.

We got our asses handed to us by Notre Dame, Utah, and Minnesota. This program has not officially done anything because of this loss. This loss means nothing.
|7 weeks 2 days ago||Roster||
Look at the roster, man. All the offensive tackles on the roster right now are true freshman or redshirt freshman. Cole beat out a group other 18 year old true freshman. I'll admit that that fact speaks to a whole other problem, but your point here doesn't really make sense.
|7 weeks 3 days ago||BoR||
Good point about the politics of the BoR. Realistically Schlissel can include anybody he wants, right? I mean if he has a buddy who's an AD somewhere he can bring that guy in as a consultant. I would hope that if he feels over his head in this kind of a decision he would involve people who are not, and who are also not already involved in a way that would affect their advice.
|7 weeks 4 days ago||Loyalty||
I come from a family of Michigan grads. My dad, his siblings, my two brothers, myself, plus a host of other family members. Some of my clearest, earliest memories of life are at Michigan Stadium. I was at the Michigan vs. Alabama debacle in Dallas, and after that game, and more importantly my reaction to it, I decided that I wouldn't get too emotionally invested in the outcome of games anymore.
That being said, I'm dedicated and loyal to only a few things; my family, my country. One of those things is the University of Michigan. I work Saturday afternoons and evenings, so I won't be able to watch the game, but I will listen to it on the radio, and than download a torrent or take it off mgovideo and watch it knowing the outcome. I don't care who the AD is or who the coach is. I'm loyal to the maize and blue and the winged helmut. To walk away when it gets tough and come back when it's easy would be spineless.
