The Homefield quality used…

The Homefield quality used to be incredibly good. Have a pair of Michigan joggers and a couple shirts and hoodies that are amazing. About a year ago, I think they switched suppliers- had to go up a size (had a few friends commenting the same, so wasn't just me) and the material wasn't as soft or comfortable...and the shirts are definitely thinner than they used to be.

The end of the 3 hr Mgoblog…

The end of the 3 hr Mgoblog podcast felt like the last episode of Cheers. Hoping this is like when the cast showed up drunk on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno after the last episode aired.

Sorry about your brother-…

Sorry about your brother- know it’s painful, but a shared bond like this also keeps his memory alive, so there’s some joy with the pain.

Big fan of Garrison Bros (their Guadalupe is my most recent after-dinner go to). I do a version of a coffee old fashioned that’s similar to this w/ Mr Black instead of Kahlua, and some homemade coffee pecan bitters. Will make this for the game and will raise a glass to you brother and rest of the mgofans who are there with us in spirit to see us win a championship.

Seth, echo what everyone else has said. As a parent, you would instantly take on 1000x pain suffered on behalf of your child.

If the mgoblog community can provide you any financial or meal delivery or any other such support, please let us know. For all the infighting among the Michigan fanbase, we are the best when it comes to a time of crisis. And for all you and the rest of the mgoblog team have given us, literally for free, over the years we'd all be happy to support in any way we can. Don't be shy and don't hesitate to ask for help (if it's needed).

Never thought we’d get…

Never thought we’d get Harbaugh starring in his own Hallmark movie, rejecting the big city job/fiancé in favor of coming back to his hometown, but here we are.

Agree with everything said here. Madison is an excellent town and everyone is pretty friendly. Apart from the suggestions on food/drink a couple more-

1) if you do the farmers market, Stella’s cheese bread.

2) chocolate shoppe ice cream

Can’t fault him or Mayfield …

Can’t fault him or Mayfield (or Paye it sounds like), but sucks to lose these guys...meanwhile no defectors from OSU’s roster and the NCAA will probably retroactively grant both Bosas eligibility.

Lived in St Charles for 8…

Lived in St Charles for 8 years after school before moving to Glen Ellyn (wife works in the city, I work in Geneva, so split the difference after we got married). Great area, and the relative convenience for home and away games is great

Just shows that Howard is willing to go the extra mile to win. Beilein never slept with any recruits’ moms at Michigan.

It's out of print but Lords…

It's out of print but Lords of the Realm is probably one of the best baseball books I've read. Discusses the history of baseball, particularly from the viewpoint of owner-player relations, and the last half of the book is devoted to the player unions and how that evolved the game. For a Tigers fan, the collusion among owners in the mid to late 80s is really interesting (Tigers didn't want to pay Lance Parrish big bucks so he explored free agency to find no suitors, except a lowball Philly offer, which he ended up taking). The book covered through the 94 strike, but it's still really interesting.

Looks like you can get for around $20-25 on amazon.

Western Suburbs of Chicago…

Western Suburbs of Chicago for about 10 years

PROS:

  • Great football culture and a mix of a lot of B1G alumni
  • Easy to road trip to home and away Michigan games
  • Chicago is a great city for food, culture, sports...easy to get in to the city from burbs
  • Not too difficult to find a decent job

CONS:

  • Illinois is a horribly mismanaged state
  • Property taxes are really bad (depends on city, but 2-2.5% of home purchase price yearly seems about average around here)
  • Same weather as Michigan- 100 days of summer etc etc
Zach Johnson

Would be nice to get a one year grad transfer to open up more spots in the 2019 class. Aside from Mooney and Cremo (who seems to be the hottest grad transfer in terms of big names recruiting him), Zach Johnson from Florida Gulf Coast makes sense.

6-2, ORating of 111, 79% FT,  51% 2PT, 41% 3PT and a 3.2% steal rate (91st nationally).  Would provide instant shooting and FTs.

George Jewett

Don't know if there is enough archival evidence, but his life story is pretty interesting, at least from wikipedia:

Because stupidity drives

Because stupidity drives traffic too. I've never watched First Take, but every time Stephen A or Skip says something especially stupid (vs their regular stupidity), I see it featured prominently on Twitter, Facebook, sports blogs, etc, and I end up clicking over to see what the fuss is about. Maybe I'm following the wrong people on twitter (my own fault for following Awful Announcing and Deadspin), but fake outrage/stupidity seems to outnumer quality writing at least 3:1

Got a cool story bro re: Got a cool story bro re: Hackett. Colleague of mine, a BYU fan, went up to the game last week. He had endzone seats, 2nd to last row. Behind him was a very knowledgable female Michigan fan. She knew all the players, even the backups by heart. He struck up a conversation with her, and asked her how she knew so much- her response, My dad is the athletic director. He talked a little more with her and asked why she had nosebleed seats, given her connections. She said- my dad says if we want free seats, this is the way it has to be. Epitome of the anti-Brandon

"Brandon's contract

"Brandon's contract stipulates that if he's fired without cause prior to Jan. 1, 2016, the university must pay him his remaining base salary and his remaining deferred compensation."

For the lawyers out there, is this debacle enough to demonstrate cause?

U of M- Dearborn

Highly recommend doing the classes at U of M-Dearborn. Much cheaper than Ann Arbor, and the credits transfer over. They're pretty flexible with offering night classes too if I remember right (from about 20 years ago)  I did Calc III and Linear Algebra there and only had to take Differential Equations at Ann Arbor to finish up the math requirement for engineering. Added bonus- if you set your sights outside of Ann Arbor for undergraduate, you still have the U of M name on a transcript.

Recruiting Goof

On the Bielfeldt/Pitchford note, IIRC the last scholarship came down to Bielfeldt and Larry Nance Jr. Nance is doing really well for Wyoming- top 50 defensive rebounding %age, good offensive rating and true shooting percentage, and he's a high usage player. For a staff that has had success with undervalued offspring of NBA players, always seemed like an odd choice to go with Bielfeldt over him.

I think that pretty much sums it up

If you believe the Ohio

If you believe the Ohio posters, the shadiness is due to Meyer asking him to delay his visit as they think they have a better shot with another TE prospect (Gesick)

Would love to get Broadus if for no other reason that we can say we've had sons of both Huggy Bears.

Smith Smith is in too
Really love the recruit

Really love the recruit ratings vs Nth best recruit plots...was wondering how someone could come up with a quick visual to show something like this, and this perfectly shows it off. Nice work!

There is an interesting post

There is an interesting post on thebiglead about how Michigan is actually better on defense than the defensive efficiency stat indicates:

http://www.thebiglead.com/index.php/2013/01/23/michigan-plays-better-de…

Crux of the argument is that they are up among the nation's leaders in "shutdown stretches" defined as a 4 min period in which the opponent does not score. The article doesn't speak to when these stretches occurred, so some of these could be biased to lower ranked opponents or less critical game situations, but it's an interesting stat...

Keep with the current system-

Keep with the current system- McGary off the bench, but keep giving him more minutes. Makes sense to have McGary in for Morgan when LeVert spells Hardaway. Hardaway is a much better rebounder than LeVert, so McGary's better rebounding over Morgan is needed.

Added bonus...I believe

Added bonus...I believe McGary's 20 min now qualify him in the kenpom rankings for rebounding

 already mentioned

I was wondering about that

I was wondering about that too. Big Puppy seems more appropriate for McGary, with the energy and excitable nature and youthful mistakes, but I've seen other places refer to GRIII as Big Puppy (http://thehoopdoctors.com/online2/2012/01/michigan-recruit-glenn-robins… for example)

According to some Iowa

According to some Iowa friends, he was always a high floor, low ceiling type of guy. Ideally an energy guy/6th man off the bench (which is his role now), but started because of total lack of talent at Iowa when McCaffery got there
