Nobody outside of Pennsylvania and Wisconsin believes that Penn State and Wiscy are even close to being the second best team in the Big Ten.

Rented a house on the bay in Delaware a few years back while my son was camping at Annapolis and watched those C-130s practice takeoffs and landings endlessly out of Dover AFB. Very cool aircraft! (GoWings2008, you'll also be happy to know my son ended up USAF instead of USN!)

I love "he had no chance to supplant O'Korn as the force majeure." That has to be the strangest use of force majeure I have ever seen.

That sounds high. According to the current win %s for the remaining games, we're about 47% to win out. I don't see how we get to the playoff without beating OSU, but the chances that we lose a game before OSU are so small that it doesn't affect the calculation much.* In the B1G championship game, I'm guessing we'd be about a 75% favorite. If you assume we're 50/50 in both games of the playoffs, that takes the overall chance of winning the whole thing to about 9%.
* If you assume another path to the CFP is losing to Iowa but still beating OSU, with everything else being equal, you can add 1% to the 9%.

It occurred to me a while back, after watching yet another ESPN promotion that uses a sports personality that I thought they purported to cover journalistically, that there is in fact no journalism at ESPN. It's the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network. There is nothing in its name that suggests they are journalists, and they are not. They are entertainers, pure and simple. If you're going to watch, you have to keep it in that context.

Wouldn't it be awesome if the radio broadcast and the TV braodcast was in sync so we could listen to Brandstatter and Dierdorf while watching on TV? Does anyone have any tricks or suggestions for making this work?

I'm in the middle of my career. I've hired dozens of people. I absolutely look at and consider undergraduate and graduate college pedigree. Obviously there are many other factors, and success post-college is way more important, but I can't say that it "doesn't matter much" to me, because it does. I also like to help fellow Michigan grads when I can.

I notice the band has become less reliable in terms of playing Temptation after every 3rd down stop. I wonder if it has to do with the unfortunate "you suck" chant. Personally, I like the ominous tone of the song and the hand motion (just because it looks cool when thousands of people are doing the choppy thing in the same rhythm), but I follow it with a "Go Blue". I hear a smattering of others like me in my section.

This time of year, I pay a great deal of attention to the media. I am not seeing a "media firestorm." A man is asked an off-topic question during a press conference, he tries to answer the question as best as he can, and then follows it up with further clarification. Big surprise, our coach is a social conservative. Aside from the debate itself which CK launched, for better or for worse, why does Harbaugh's view really matter?

I'm glad you don't know anybody like that, and if you asked the gentleman who wrote the letter, he would probably tell you he wasn't questioning the valor of anyone individually either. But he took the time to write a lengthy diatribe about how it's inappropriate to celebrate the military before a football game. He's welcome to his opinion, but there was no doubt in my mind after reading it that he takes his freedom for granted.

I am with you StephenR, thanks for the post. My son is a Michigan grad and a lieutenant in the USAF - members of the military are always in my prayers.
A recent letter to the editor in The Wolverine questioning the need for Military Appreciation Day at Michigan Stadium was a stark reminder that not everyone values what the men and women of our armed services do each and every day to protect our country and the freedom it stands for - including the freedom to disagree. My son is a brilliant young man who could be doing many other things, and making much more money than he his, with his Michigan Engineering degree, but he chooses to give back to his country.
God Bless America, and Go Blue!

Go back and watch Denard highlights. They are un-effing-believable. Utilized properly, Denard would make ANY college football team better.
