I should probably start referring to them as "new potatoes"
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Canham||
That's probably what they said about Don Canham, too, back in the day. Brandon is doing exactly the same thing Canham did, only in a different era. I agree that winning will make Brandon's crap entirely more palatable.

I wanted to reply that I have two for sale for the "Home Opener" as well, and for a lot less than $40 per ticket. Unfortunately it was from a no-reply address.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Seriously?||
There has to be at least a few thousand corporate and bankrutpcy lawyers in Delaware that graduated from Michigan Law School.
|11 weeks 1 day ago||Not trying to teach anyone||
Not trying to teach anyone anything, which is probably good since it seems like nobody is listening anyway. Just have no interest in that ridiculous game but was forced to buy the tickets if I wanted to keep my season ticket package.

All good points. Even "win some games."
Personally, I thought briefly about not renewing my tickets, which is kind of a big deal after 35 years (including my undergraduate years). The allure of a possibly better future schedule brought me around. Notwithstanding, I have already decided I will not attend the Appy State game and will not sell the tickets. Instead I will be flushing them down the toilet as soon as they arrive.

Frankly I don't care where he ends up.
Thanks for your contributions to the team while you were here, bro, and good luck in the future unless and until we play against you.

I don't ache for Morgan or anyone else. This was a great run, much better than ANYONE thought, including Beilein himself, after losing McGary. Sure I would have loved to see them move on, both selfishly and for the guys we're losing (and might be losing), but I console myself with the terrific accomplishments this year, the outstanding trajectory this program is on, and high hopes for next year. HAIL!

Wait til they get a W-2 for the value of their scholarship.

And the follow up was even better - "er, I mean, great having me on."
Gotta love this guy!

Spoken like a true Seaholm grad!
|23 weeks 3 days ago||Of course||
Of course he can recruit, he's been the school's Director of Admissions for years. He recruits 200 8th graders every year and convinces their parents to pay $11k in tuition, when the alternatives are excellent public schools in Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills that cost nothing. I will grant you, the job just got a little tougher when you lose an icon like Al Fracassa.
- sincerely, tired of whiny public school alumni

All-American Brad Cochran
Fracassa was definitely a Spartan, but he didn't steer his players there, at least later in his career.

Best form tackle by a punter ever:
|25 weeks 2 days ago||Lighten up||
This is hilarious. You can't really take the Lions seriously, can you? I may even buy a ticket package now. It'll be fun now whether they win or lose!
|25 weeks 3 days ago||Wouldn't piss me off||
Hiring Tress wouldn't piss me off at all, in fact I'd find it highly entertaining - more fun than the Caldwell hire, that's for sure.
|26 weeks 2 days ago||Yes, absolutely.||
And frankly it gives me more confidence in Brady Hoke.
Might just upgrade the season tickets this year!
|26 weeks 2 days ago||Tom Brady||
1. Must retire at some point, why not now?
2. Does not need the money - not even the breadwinner in his household!
3. Let's face it, he's already an OC
4. Loves his alma mater
|26 weeks 3 days ago||About the BCS||
I think it's a big mistake going to the playoff format, and it'll be a bigger mistake if the playoff field is expanded. It doesn't end the debate about who should be in the national championship game, it just changes it to who should be in the semifinal games. And if the field expands and the season gets longer, why don't we just start paying the players and call it minor league football? I am convinced that as a result of our society's desperate desire to have an undisputed champion, we're going to kill the uniquely appealing aspect of intercollegiate football that is amateurism.
|28 weeks 4 days ago||Not meaningful anyway||
I wanted to fight some of those aholes that night too. If I was Taylor Lewan I might have.
But what difference does it make? Other than his pro career, and I wish him the best obviously, he's got one more fairly meaningless game in a Michigan uniform.
|30 weeks 2 days ago||Winters||
Getting the Department in the black again had at least as much, if not more, to do with Jason Winters, a turnaround guy from AlixPartners who joined the Department as CFO a few months before Martin did in 2000. The first budget surplus was in 2001-2.
|32 weeks 2 days ago||Wrong||
What was "weird" about the blog post? It's a blog in support of a head coach, and encouraging fans to be patient and support the team. And do you honestly think it was in response to a single tweet? Or maybe more accurately it was in response to the thousands of posts here and elsewhere, and endless media speculation, about the future of Brady Hoke? Probably best to just let that fester, huh? IMO, it was exactly the right thing to do, and gives me hope that we WILL hold people (read Borges, Funk) accountable after the season is over.
|32 weeks 2 days ago||I don't hate Brandon||
All in all, he's doing a great job supporting and promoting the long-established values at the University of Michigan - winning with integrity, including academic integrity. He is a major improvement over our previous AD (did BM ever write a blog in support of our recruiting efforts?).
I do not agree with everything that Brandon has done, as I consider myself more conservative and a traditionalist, but there's no doubt in my mind he's the right guy for the job. If you don't agree, who would you replace him with, and why?
|32 weeks 6 days ago||Rich Rod||
was criticized for a lot of things, but I don't recall his manner of speech being among them. In fact he is many times more articulate than Brady Hoke, not that it matters much.
|32 weeks 6 days ago||Arizona's still 7-4||
and 4th in their division. Sound familiar?
|32 weeks 6 days ago||Don't be ridiculous||
He made billions for his investors by managing people and making more good decisions than bad ones. Are you so self-centered that your definition of success is whether or not they made products you liked?
Whether he "practiced" or "played" for Bo, the point is that he knows a little more football than BM.
|32 weeks 6 days ago||Truth||
He was known for how bad it was
|32 weeks 6 days ago||Way too harsh on Brandon||
You guys are being way too harsh on Brandon. The guy has been incredibly successful running large organizations, and there's no reason to think he won't be successful running the athletics department.
Exactly what failures are you referring to over the past three years? Replacing Rodriguez, which everyone wanted him to do? Finding a staff to turn the football team around in one year and win a Sugar Bowl? Rebuilding Crisler and Yost arenas? Going to the NCAA basketball championship game last year? Finishing 2013 with our highest standing in the Directors' Cup since 2007? Raking in another cool $100 million from Steve Ross?
Do I agree with all of his decisions? Of course not. Has he made some decisions he has probably regretted himself? I'm certain of it. Everybody makes mistakes.
We are very fortunate to have a guy who played football for Bo, and went on to be a successful CEO at two different large companies, leading our athletics program. He is a gigantic improvement over Martin, who knows nothing about football and has no idea how to manage people (and is an egomaniac to boot, which seems to go with the territory).
I am with you on coaching changes being needed. But nobody's going to talk about that in the middle of the season, and rightly so. It's too soon to give up on Hoke, especially with the recruiting success, but I think you can count on Brandon to counsel Hoke regarding the performance of his assistants, something Martin never would have been capable of doing.
