"The University of Illinois is also in turmoil. The university sports an Interim Chancellor, an Interim Athletic Director, and an Interim Football Coach; the game will be played at Soldier Field, making this an Illini Interim Home Game."

Really unfair. I'm pretty sure Coach Durkin wasn't out on the field, missing all those tackles. He did a great job this year, and I'll think well of him no matter what he chooses to do.

I went two years ago for the 4OT crapfest. I believe it was a 3:30 start, and we drove all the way from Detroit that morning. I don't recall the traffic being all that bad on the way in, but leaving was a different story. We stayed about an hour west, but it was a slow and painful drive, made worse by the outcome of the game.

They used the duck tape on Oregon. Now they're using duct tape.

Personally I'm done buying bowl tickets from the AD. Been screwed too many times, most recently for the 2012 Sugar Bowl. Requested the best, most expensive tickets possible, and got stuck in the nosebleed section in the endzone. Meanwhile, there were much better, empty seats everywhere. I'm a season ticket holder, but I don't have a zillion points, which I assume is the problem.
If I'm going to make the trip, I'm not going to skimp on the tickets. Way better off buying direct from the bowl venue or, if that's not possible, buying on the secondary market.

Giving credit to the M alum from ICCT for uncovering the VW fraud is a bit of a stretch. ICCT actually contracted the research out to the Center for Alternative Fuels Engines and Emissions at West Virginia University. The guy who led the research team is Dan Carder.

A little OT, and this goes way back, but I remember sitting in the student section with my older sister when George Cavender was the band director and the band had just started the "let's go blue" song and chant. The band was playing it seeminlgy between every play, and the students were getting so sick of it, that instead of chanting "let's go blue" they started chanting "fuck you George." Now that's original AND classy!

Personally I chant "Go Blue" at the end. I hear a smattering of people doing the same in section 36.

I'm pretty sure you were being sarcastic, but I actually think "nice try" would be awesome. Maybe the Daily could run a contest for the best two syllable ending?

Sorry, it's a new day in Michigan football, so the "thousand" previous threads don't apply IMO.

Wow, Ed Rothman is still teaching stats? Had him for 402 - in Fall 1978! He was one of the best profs I ever had.

Brian, why is it so disappointing when a federal agency actually respects its authority instead of trying to overstep it? Maybe just a matter of perspective, depending on what side of this issue one is on.

My immediate thought is that they had a very viable second choice. When you asked for the significant increase from the initial offer, they may have thought it would be easier (and cheaper) to go with the alternative than to negotiate with you.

Homestead Resort or Grand Traverse Resort may be your best bets for this summer, given how many people you want to house. I have a big rental property on Crystal Lake that sleeps 10-12 but it's been booked for the entire summer since December. The resorts can split you up in 2-3 condos and you'll still be near each other.

Schools in Royal Oak and Farmington are meh. If schools are a priority, for the kind of money you're looking to spend, I'd suggest the southwest corner of Troy, in the Birmingham school district. You might also want to consider the western suburbs of Northville and Novi, where the schools are gigantic but highly regarded, plus you can still find parts of both those communities that are somewhat rural, if that's what you mean by "relaxed."

I might be an asshole. Having graduated - twice - and having had both parents, and both children, and my wife, and 6 out of 8 siblings and siblings-in-law graduate, entitles me to feel more "invested" than another fan who is not a graduate, or doesn't have the same connectedness. To be clear though, I don't think that makes me more of a fan, and in fact in some ways I would admit to being somewhat less, because I appreciate that the University of Michigan is so much more than just the Wolverines.

I assume you mean "hasn't" done jack. In that case, may I remind you he hasn't done jack except to keep the longest playoff appearance streak in major sports alive, while turning over the roster multiple times.

I'm not playing word games either. They recruit athletically, they recruit academically, they recruit anyone who has $12k to spend and wants the type of educational, athletic, and spiritual experience the school offers.

True, Brother Rice recruits every one of the 700 young men who attend the school, even the ones who don't play football. They have to convince 700 parents to pay $12,000 a year when those parents have an option at $0 per year.

I was in my late 30's when I finished my MBA in the evening program. I'd done my undergrad at Michigan too, so I had a ton of seniority (back when it mattered, I guess I'm not sure if it does anymore). Anyway, I was already a football season ticket holder, so I didn't need football tickets, but I did get a pair of student tickets for basketball, and it was a lot of fun. Usually I'd take one of my two young boys, who heard an earful, but the undergrads (especially the girls) were great to them.
