Miami couldn't move the ball at all on us when we didn't hand them good field position. Do you actually believe Hoke was purposely not playing with urgency so we would score with no time left? If so you have a lot more confidence in the guy than I do.

What happened on 4th down wasn't the worst of it. The fact is that the entire last possession of the first half was played without any urgency to score. We had the ball with something like 4 minutes on the clock on Miami's side of the field. If we'd have managed the clock better in the first two minutes, the 4th down thing with a minute left probably wouldn't have happened. Instead, the tempo was as if there was no time constraint at all. I watched in disbelief as Gardner let the play clock run down to single digits on snap after snap. Hoke was either lost or has no killer instinct. Can anyone imagine Urban Meyer or Nick Saban wasting an opportunity to score in that situation, especially when we had to give the ball back to Miami to start the second half? I have been patient but I am rapidly losing confidence in our HC's ability to manage a game.

Thanks for the quote, I won't read a Rosenberg article.
Spencer is low profile, but a tremendous asset for Michigan. He knows quality young men and women, having served previously as the director of recruitment for the Air Force Academy. Clearly he and Rodriguez were not on the same page, so I agree that it's encouraging to hear him saying good things about the quality of our football recruits as people, not just athletes.
This is not a backhanded slap at Rodriguez. He brought in some great kids that represented Michigan well, too. It's just no secret that Rodriguez wanted more leeway than the University was prepared to give.

Great opinion piece in the WSJ Monday by Dave Revsine (including Michigan reference). Here's a link, although it's paywalled:
Bottom line is pay for athletes is not a new issue at all, having been debated for over 100 years. This is just a new chapter. My prediction is we will get through this with no significant changes to intercollegiate athletics, and amateurism being preserved in a broad sense of the word.

Sit in the north end zone, and don't buy tickets that are more than 10 rows from the portal, and stay close to the aisle. You can count on game days in September being really hot, and younger kids will get restless and be up and down the whole game. Being near the portal will be easier to get out for refreshments and bathroom breaks. Plus there is a grassy hill outside the north endzone that is a great, cooler place to relax in and let the kids run around. Personally I would recommend section 36, which is a small section that doesn't extend all the way to the field. As a point of reference, row 69 is the first row down inside section 36.
Hope this helps, and have fun!

Would bet two tickets to Appy State that the AD and the (accurate) perception of growing restlessness in the fan base is behind this. I am not against it at all, and I hope it generates some positive buzz.

Spoke to a regent today who is absolutely against this nonsense. Not sure if that view is representative of the group.

That's probably what they said about Don Canham, too, back in the day. Brandon is doing exactly the same thing Canham did, only in a different era. I agree that winning will make Brandon's crap entirely more palatable.

I wanted to reply that I have two for sale for the "Home Opener" as well, and for a lot less than $40 per ticket. Unfortunately it was from a no-reply address.

There has to be at least a few thousand corporate and bankrutpcy lawyers in Delaware that graduated from Michigan Law School.

Not trying to teach anyone anything, which is probably good since it seems like nobody is listening anyway. Just have no interest in that ridiculous game but was forced to buy the tickets if I wanted to keep my season ticket package.

All good points. Even "win some games."
Personally, I thought briefly about not renewing my tickets, which is kind of a big deal after 35 years (including my undergraduate years). The allure of a possibly better future schedule brought me around. Notwithstanding, I have already decided I will not attend the Appy State game and will not sell the tickets. Instead I will be flushing them down the toilet as soon as they arrive.

Thanks for your contributions to the team while you were here, bro, and good luck in the future unless and until we play against you.

I don't ache for Morgan or anyone else. This was a great run, much better than ANYONE thought, including Beilein himself, after losing McGary. Sure I would have loved to see them move on, both selfishly and for the guys we're losing (and might be losing), but I console myself with the terrific accomplishments this year, the outstanding trajectory this program is on, and high hopes for next year. HAIL!

Of course he can recruit, he's been the school's Director of Admissions for years. He recruits 200 8th graders every year and convinces their parents to pay $11k in tuition, when the alternatives are excellent public schools in Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills that cost nothing. I will grant you, the job just got a little tougher when you lose an icon like Al Fracassa.

Fracassa was definitely a Spartan, but he didn't steer his players there, at least later in his career.

This is hilarious. You can't really take the Lions seriously, can you? I may even buy a ticket package now. It'll be fun now whether they win or lose!

Hiring Tress wouldn't piss me off at all, in fact I'd find it highly entertaining - more fun than the Caldwell hire, that's for sure.

Might just upgrade the season tickets this year!

1. Must retire at some point, why not now?
2. Does not need the money - not even the breadwinner in his household!
3. Let's face it, he's already an OC
4. Loves his alma mater
