Brian, I have always loved your writing, it's absolutely fantastic and these pre-season previews are always chock full of good things.  I have been on the blog since near day one and this line may be one of your best ever, "He had a ton of production in O'Korn's Flowers For Algernon game".  I almost fell out of my chair, its just one line in thousands of words of preview but it is truly awesome on about four different levels.  Huzzah to you sir.

Yup I am local (Keego Harbor) my pleasure to help,

It was several years ago, and I am not sure he is still out there but the name was Keith Lacourciere. He was truly a one man operation, I think doing wiring and such was his side hustle, but I have been very pleased with his work.  His number was 248-525-8700.

Seth, go to youtube and…

Seth, go to youtube and research filelinked...for your Star Trek needs.

Been researching for years…

Been researching for years and finally made the switch.  Couldnt be happier so far.  I went with PSVue which after considerable research was about equivalent to Youtube TV, the tipping point for me was I am a firestick guy and at this point they (youtube tv and the stick) dont play well together.  If that changes in the future, I can always revisit my decision.  My Comcast bill was creeping towards $200 a month, and by dumping their TV service I am now at $130 for internet and TV.  Quality is amazing so far, my wired TVs are reporting 4K native on many things I watch.

Couple hints -

1. Get wired.  I can do basics, but decided to have a pro come out and for a couple of hundred bucks he put wire lines from my router to my family room and bedroom.  He then put a signal booster in, to provide better signal to parts of the house that werent as strong or didnt have the wire.  Streams are rock solid so far.

2. Own your own equipment.  Get a modem, get a good router.  They will pay for themselves in just a few months.

3. Look into getting better connection devices, it does make a difference.  For me that meant getting the 4K firesticks (rectangular) instead of the regular ones.  Once I truly decided to pull the plug, I grabbed Nvidia Shields for my main TVs as well.  The quality here is outstanding.

4. TVs right now are stupidly inexpensive.  I got a bunch of the cheapo insignia 24 and 32 inch firetv's for a song so you dont even have to pay separately for the stick.  They are only 720p, but for my kids rooms they are a cheap and easy.  Plus prime day is about a week and change away so the prices on these TVs and any Firesticks will be super cheap then, buy them that day.

5. Finally no one has mentioned it yet, but in 2019 there is no reason to miss any show you want to try out, no matter what platform its on.  Go to youtube, research an app called filelinked is all I am gonna say.

In addition to the coaches…

In addition to the coaches show at Pizza House, I know that Mike Spath from WTKA has mentioned that Devin Gardner does a film review live at a bar once a week in Royal Oak, and once a week in Ann Arbor.  I dont remember the exact details though, I sure someone can chime in.

Hey Jacoby,

I post…

Hey Jacoby,

I post something about this every year, so I figure its about that time.  If you would like to watch the Michigan game video with our radio audio you can do it.

So here is what you need to know; if you have the game on live on your tv the terrestrial radio is ahead of the video, so you are sort of out of luck.  Here is where the magic of technology comes to your rescue.  First thing, you have to have some sort of DVR to make this work, you must also have a relatively strong internet connection as well, most likely wireless.

The secret is that the internet radio feed is delayed by about sixty seconds beyond the video.  So using your phone/tablet or whatever go to the mgoblue.com site and load up the game audio.  Sometimes it takes a couple of tries as I imagine their site gets absolutely barraged during game time.  Also the feed will most likely drop out at some point during the game, usually happens once or twice per game for me.  Still its not a huge problem to set up, and I personally then run a wire from my tablet to my stereo to make it loud.  So now you have video that is running about sixty seconds ahead of your audio.  At this point you can use your DVR to sync things up, its a bit of a pain but after a few plays and timing out the snap you should be able to get it pretty dead on.

ONE BIG WARNING though.  You are now watching the game about 60-90 seconds behind everyone on the net, so Twitter and Mgoblog game chat will tell you things before they happen.  This isnt a huge deal for me, but I could see it driving some folks nuts.  I try not to look but when its a big 3rd down I know from the tone of the chat whether something good or bad happened, so be aware.

Hope this helps!

Bring it on Mechwarrior! Battletech is awesome fun, and yes Mechwarrior 5 is supposedly coming out this year as well. It’s a banner year for all things Mech related. Now if they could just get MPBT - 3025 back we would truly be in business.
I dont know

Personally I always just found uptight band nerds annoying, but hey whatever floats your boat.

My Man

If its summer get your butt over to Dominick's and Sangria your cares away.

Simply Perfect

Or in the alternative, I say go Fuck Lion.  Anyone know how to draw a Fuck Lion?

Miller and Shep Not a huge fan of either Miller or Shep, but how about Mark Champion, he will always be the voice of Lions for me.
UM radio with TV If you want to watch the game but listen to our announcers it's pretty easy.

1. Stream the radio on any internet device. The stream has about a minute lag to it, I think I used TuneIn radio app for week one

2. Because of the lag you can use a DVR to sync up the video and audio. It takes a few plays to get it dead on but after that you are good to go

Hope this helps!
Psychology?

Actually Skinner, but close enough and dont even get me started on the positive punishment versus negative reinforcement angle...

Feels

Well the game did have a very Brady-Richrod esque feel to it...

OSU

From 1998...

"Lots of people with nothing better to do are holding their collective breath in Columbus, Ohio, all because a certain All-American linebacker is taking three summer-school courses that will determine whether he can play college football this season.

Ohio State star Andy Katzenmoyer is tackling golf, music and AIDS awareness, separately of course."

It can happen

Sig Ep got the boot right after I graduated so the kids trashed the house, it then burned, and they sold it off...One of the nicest old houses on campus is now just one more random building.

Tradition

The Tradition for many many years before both Phi Delt and SAE had some issues was that they would play each other every year.  It was a huge deal for both houses.  That changed when Phi Delt got the boot in the mid-90s.  I was sad to see it go, I played in the game twice for PDT, it was something we really looked forward to every year.

Bummer it took 20 posts before OP got an answer to his question, do we always have to wallow in fraternity hate every time something vaguelly related to them comes up?

Have to say I am quite saddened by all the folks who hate fraternities simply for the sake of hating fraternities.  If you lump them all together and simply point out all the negatives you are being just as closed minded as the folks most of you seem to dislike so much.

Fantastic Content

Wish I would have known about these before, gold star for you OP, gold star...

stream it The online stream is always a minute or two slower than the radio. Using that stream and a DVR you can match things up pretty easily. I do this every year.
Funny! My best friend is a personnel guy in the NFL. He worked with Balke several iterations ago, and still can't quite comprehend how he is in the league. Apparently before the 49ers Trent got the boot from his last job because he was such a giant douche-nozzle. He was basically begging anyone in the league for a job. An old pal threw him a bone at the 49ers. The Niners were terrible and basically fired everybody, the only person to survive the blood letting was the new guy. He then fell into Harbaugh, it was about as lucky as a human could possibly be. My buddy says Balke is literally one of the very worst people in the entire league. The funny thing is I heard this story years ago and no had no idea who this Balke guy was, my buddy was just telling random war stories.
They are close...

I have quite a bit of experience in this exact area.  I began my teaching career at probably the best IB school in the midwest, and now teach AP at a high ranking suburban high school.  As most have mentioned both are fine choices, either one is going to give you a huge leg up when is comes to college application time.  Both programs are going to be full of the highest achieving kids, and they will all push each other.

My main concern with IB is that it is simply too time consuming.  We worked the kids extremely hard, we constantly were pushing the limits of how much they could actually do, and many of them dont make it.  The loss rate of kids leaving my IB school was very high, something like 1/3 of the students dont make it past sophomore year.  I cannot comprehend how a school would try to do that in just three years.  Our kids already had no lives, they were studying constantly, very few did sports, and while there were clubs, they mostly existed as ways for kids to polish their college resume (and yes dont forget about the giant two year long research paper you have to write).  If they survive all that, they did get into fantastic schools, but you can also get into fantastic schools by taking AP, and still having something of a normal high school existance.  Leave room for the student to have a life, there are so many good lessons to learn from playing sports, or volunteering, or whatever interests your child.  If your child is a high achiever they will achieve anywhere and as long as they are taking challenging courses they should be fine.  We send just as many to Harvard at my current school as we did in my old school.

Wow! It simply felt like home, like things were put back where they belong.
International Academy I used to work at IA, it isn't impossible to get into to. Admissions is a pure lottery anyone can get in. Staying in once you get there is a whole different proposition. It is the most challenging school in the state, the standards are incredibly high. It blows DCD and Cranbrook out of the water, and I graduated from DCD, so I know what the private schools can offer. Finally it's free. If you want the best go there, if your kid doesn't make the lottery then look at the other schools.
Still the king That will always be the hype video playing in my head. So much pain and yet so much hope...
Be a bit careful I really like Jalen and what he has tried to do here as well, it's truly a wonderful thing. But beyond the two second background of this school you get in the video, there has been some shady stuff reported about it. Things like constant staff turnover and massive failures of leadership. Apparently there was 100% teacher turnover at one point and the teachers really lit up the admins on the way out. It's a very difficult situation and I hope it does have a happy ending but reality may not be quite as rosy as portrayed.
Johnson? Mr. Johnson I presume?

It's one thing to lose the house or car your lottery ticket child gave you, but to actually erase his entire net worth is a special kind of evil. It's one thing to screw up your own life, but you have to do right by your own children at very least. Nice or not, this is a terrible person. They didn't do this by accident, the dad was buying Ferraris for god sake...

I have no idea how you can even begin to defend him.

But hey he's nice!
ESL? English motherfucker do you speak it?
Long Beach State?

When I was a kid, about one game a year wouldnt be on TV. (70s-80s).  The games not on TV would go so fast.  It was just awesome watching play after play with no real interuptions.  The last time I remember this happening was when we played Long Beach State, I have no idea what year that was.  But it was a long long time ago.

This. In my head every hype video has Rilo Kiley singing that song. Things may not have turned out well that year but damn that got me going for the new season.
haha The comment for the Indiana .gif was just perfect, I about fell out of my seat. kudos to you sir.
ND 1991, Desmond's catch

Wow, I had no idea I was one of the old guys on the site, LOL.  Shocked no one mentioned the Desmond ND game yet.  I was a Senior in High School when the catch happened in 1991, not sure if I had been accepted to UM yet or not...Desmond's 4th down catch was thrown directly at me sitting in the end zone.  It was the anti-Michigan play, going for it on fourth down, and going big instead of running it up the gut.  Everyone in the stadium was shocked, and all I could think was OMG Elvis overthrew it!!  Only to see the crowd rise up as one and go crazy an instant later...I dont think newer fans understand how much ND was our true nemesis for much of the 80s and 90s.  They would seem to luck out against us every freaking year, it was heart break after heart break.

70s-80s Wasn't always the entire offense but Bo ran it to some degree for many years. The last team I recall running it was with Mike Taylor at the helm.
20th century American Wars Maybe I had a different prof (early 90s), but I found American Wars hugely disappointing. Walked in hoping to learn about guns, bombs, and battles. What I actually got was a semester full of how minorities and women truly won the wars for us, sigh...
Another Vote Triple yes to Life and Sports in Ancient Rome with Potter. Workload was low, and Potter was an outstanding lecturer
Cant agree more

Champion was just fantastic for the Lions.  He was the true voice of frustrated fans everywhere.  I loved the "Oh you just cant have that" type lines...Cant believe that a franchise the hired Matt Millen and kept him around for so long removed Champion just for telling it like it is.

Sigh... Reading is fundamental LB.

Shocked no one had deployed this yet,

" what you've just said... is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul..."
