Just to clarify, Brian's reference to sickle cell trait doesn't relate directly to rhabdomyolysis, it relates to the linked article at EDSBS stating that most of the non-traumatic deaths of football players over the last several years have occurred during offseason conditioning, several of which resulted from sickle cell crises in people previously undiagnosed with sickle cell trait. So the overall point of that article and the reference is the lack of oversight and screening for these things in general.
A buddy of mine got that a while ago and asked me to fix it for him. I just remember that the virus kept telling him he had to pay to get rid of it (which, of course, was bogus but he kept clicking it). I also remember it being a bitch to remove.
You say Michael Rosenberg doesn't "hate" his Alma Mater, which is fair; I don't think he hates his Alma Mater either; in fact I enjoyed "War as They Knew It". This doesn't mean that he's above selling it out for his own personal gain. Put yourself in Rosenberg's position: if someone were to give you some potentially (albeit marginally) incriminating facts about your alma mater, what would you do? I personally would not start a months-long quest to have those facts brought to light.
In regards to the Free Press as a whole: I think that the vitriol towards the paper stems from the fact that the Free Press has continued to sensationalize their now-flawed story in order to justify its initial publication. The right thing to do would be to provide a balanced review of their information and sources; the prudent thing to do would be to downplay their lopsided portrayal of the situation by limiting the visibility of the story in their publications. They did neither; in fact they are still trying to make the story more than it is (see the 8 page feature on it yesterday).
I like the fact that they're denying Freep interviews now; there's no possible way that can be spun against the University. Denying press passes, however, would just make the Freep more sensational in their stories and make UM look vindictive. In the future, everyone in the Athletic Dept will know which reporters to ignore when the requests for interviews come about.
Find a friend who knows something about golf and who is willing to help you find some clubs on ebay. Should be able to get them dirt cheap. If you're just starting to get serious, whatever you get should be able to tide you over until you get addicted and will know enough to know which clubs will fit your game. One caveat if you get used clubs: plan on getting the clubs re-gripped. Grips may not seem that important, but if you start out with a set that has worn grips, it can spell bad news for your development as a player. Oh, and always spend at least as long chipping/pitching/putting as you do hitting full shots at the range.

One of the best (and funniest) CFB blogs around, with mgoblog and Dr. Saturday. The "Fulmer Cup" and "Digital Viking" offseason features make the blog a quintessential offseason read. The author is a UF fan, but rarely delves into partisanship.
If you're not familiar with the Fulmer Cup, it's a "tally" of offseason criminal offenses for college football programs, complete with an established point system for severity of the crimes.
Tonight's game sucked because we had so many chances to win (and should have won if it weren't for ANOTHER untimely whistle) but let's take a step back for a second: 3 weeks ago, Michigan was in 7th place in the CCHA, their starting goalie was injured, and there was a slim (if any) chance for us to make the NCAA tourney.
In the last 3 weeks, we've been able to watch a phenomenal story develop. My girlfriend flipped the channel to "Rudy" today; I told her that we've been watching a story that blows that out of the water.
We all need to take a step back and appreciate what Hunwick and this team accomplished over the last 3 weeks. The story that starts with a team in the bottom half of the CCHA working their way through LSSU, arch-rival MSU (on the road), #1 Miami, and then winning the CCHA championship behind a walkon goalie is unmatched.
Did anyone else notice that they took the time to paint all the logos on the ice, but didn't bother to paint the trapezoids behind the net?
Are there any rule buffs out there - is the trapezoid area not universal in college hockey?
You'll want a Medium for a 15" MBP. I've had my Timbuk2 bag for 5+ years and I still love it. If you're picky about colors, you gotta build your own, but I'd recommend the Black Commute 2.0 if you want more of a bargain.
Next year the game switches to Thanksgiving weekend, so I'm not sure how that will affect the ticket situation. Single game tickets won't be available to the public, so your best bet is probably ebay or stubhub. Tickets for this year's game were around $200 apiece for most of the season, dropping a little bit right before the game because we sucked.
As for seating locations, closer is not better...I'd try to stay away from anything lower than row 10-20 because it's not a good viewing angle.
If you can snag a room at the Bell Tower hotel, go for it. That's one of the few hotels right on campus. If you're looking on the cheap, go for one of the hotels down state street near I-94.
IIRC, an extra $5/month will get you the whole sports tier (including BTN and the extra Fox and CBS college sports channels, which come in handy if you enjoy watching UM hockey games) if you already have one of their digital packages. The only caveat is that you will not get the secondary BTN channels if they air more than one game at a given time. In my experience (in Atlanta), the UM games were almost never pushed to the secondary channels. It sucks to have to give Comcast the extra $5/month, but well worth it if you ask me
I feel for you in SEC country
It seems to me that OSU doesn't have much to lose. They locked up their Big 10 title and Rose Bowl bid...I'm planning on OSU sleepwalking into the game and M playing their asses off for the upset. Foolish? Yes.
A headline/link that reads "Rumors: Tate Forcier may be transferring", accompanied by an article behind a paywall probably does more to spread a rumor than quell it, IME.
Just got a macbook pro and I love it as a supplement to my older PCs, but it just doesn't have the flexibility of the PC. A mac does just about everything I need it to, but I miss actually being able to find a way to fix a problem myself when one pops up.
On another note - I know 7 has multitouch support, but doesn't seem that too many windows machines have deployed the technology - I can't underestimate how awesome the multitouch gestures have been so far on the mac.
Jivas,
I'm part of the UM club of Atlanta - check out some of the upcoming events at the website. The Line (as mentioned earlier) closed down, so now we watch the games at Stats (downtown) and Pepperoni's (Alpharetta area). Feel free to contact the board through the website if you have any more questions. Too bad you missed the wine tasting with Charles Woodson last month
Both Duke and Pitt are at home vs non-conference opponents on ESPN2 tonight. Maybe they were just hyping it as "see if Duke and Pitt can hold on to their non-conference home win-streeks"?

I believe that is Greg Hardin, associate AD.
I know you've already fixed it, but is this by chance the virus that you got? http://lifehacker.com/5499124/how-to-remove-xp-antispyware

Glad malwarbytes fixed it for you.
I've always used some sort of combination of Ad-aware, Ad-watch, and Spybot. Does Malwarebytes cover the territory of all of those?
I've never been into the Packard Pub, but the first thing that needs to go is the sign out front.
