I'd like to think you're…

I'd like to think you're right about the D, but if Minter goes, who knows what scheme we'll have and how successful it will or won't be.

If we win, you'll have some…

If we win, you'll have some basis for trash talk.

However, win or lose, I'm pretty sure you only get negative lifetime achievement points for trash talk to people you don't know... except for in very rare circumstances that I hope you don't find yourself in.

Too many negative lifetime achievement points, and the next go round if you're fortunate enough to wind up attending a University, it will be one with a moniker including the word 'State'

Yes, I'm dug in that win %…

It's true. I'm dug in that win % should reflect the % of times a team wins games it's played.

It's a simple concept regardless of which team one is rooting for.

Call it pedantic or whatever…

Call it pedantic or whatever judgement you like.

The statistic is inaccurate as named when it comes to all time stats and is irrelevant for season stats since a point system like the NHL uses would suffice.

Yes, I do want UM to be #1 all time like many on this blog. Doesn't change the fact that the stat calculation/naming is bogus.

Thanks.  Ill leave my…

Thanks.  Ill leave my proclamation of SID ignorance unedited.

To clear up confusion for those of us who dabble in both accurate math and English, I recommend they change the term to 'Win-Loss-Tie percentage' for the stat and add a second column for 'Win percentage' at least when it comes to all time stats.

Thanks Quailman.  I don't…

Thanks Quailman.  I don't know what SID stands for.  Internet searching SID in the context of statistics didn't shed any light after 30 seconds or so of effort, and I assume you aren't insulting yourself with that acronym which rules out some of the results. 😁

It makes sense that both the NFL and NCAA would value a tie more than a loss, but if I understand English correctly, they're not doing the math right.

Or conversely, they aren't using English correctly for the math applied.

That's more like a 'points per game' percentage where a win = 1 and a tie = 0.5.

Or call it a Win-Loss-Tie percentage.

The main point is, Michigan has won a higher percentage of the games they've played than any other team on the list.

Those percentages might…

Those percentages might reflect what the NCAA officially recognizes as win %, but as with virtually everything, they corrupt it.  They're counting ties as half a win, which they are not.

If you divide the total number of wins by the total number of games played, you will see that Michigan has won over 72%, while Bama is at 71.8 and OSU at 71.4.

I don't know about you, but it seems pretty obvious to me that actual win percentage is what percent of the time a team wins when playing games of football.

OSU has never been #1 by this measure, nor Bama

I agree with all of your…

I agree with all of your points.

In the Carr era we also wound up winning a lot of close games that didn't need to be so nerve-wracking down the stretch.

Perhaps we have it backfire on us and lose some games for being too aggressive and turning the ball over or leaving too much clock, but I'd rather go down trying to score than going into an offensive shell when the game is still in doubt.

I think so.  Living in…

I think so.  Living in Oregon, I've been rooting for the guy ever since he QB'd an underdog OSU Beaver team to a massive beat down of Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl 20 or so years ago.

There have not been any issues with violence or criminality within the program with him as coach (that I'm aware of) and he's such a calm, even tempered coach that I expect his positive influence will start to repair the culture there if he's given enough time to turn the program around.

Best MSU hire of my not insignificant lifetime.

Unfortunately, for us and…

Unfortunately, for us and the Beavs, this is a good hire for MSU.

On the bright side, I don't think we'll see a continuation of the last 15 years or so of Sparty violent idiocy.  Barring Izzo's corrosive influence staining Smith's approach, I think he'll bring a good culture to the program.

The parts where AI keeps…

The parts where AI keeps referring to 'us' and 'we' for human contributions, controls, and responsibilities is not encouraging.

I remember when I used to…

I remember when I used to like MSU enough to root for them most of the time as I do underdogs or the underprivileged.  But that memory is growing faint.

The last 15 years or so have been annoying.  We've been finding ways to not win against them (with ref help or without) more frequently than we should for even a bit longer than that.

I'd like to see us play with a little more fire in our bellies vs MSU.  They've lost my respect and garnered my concern.  I'm hoping Harbaugh is finally developing a similar attitude.

How often have we covered the spread against them in the past 20 years?  Not sure if anyone here has the data, but I'd guess our performance vs the spread is worse vs MSU than any other B1G team over the past 2 decades.  That said, I don't care if we cover vs the spread so long as we win.  This year, next year, and for many years to come.

If so, then this is the…

If so, then this is the first time a B1G team has set a 6 game scoring streak record in 5 games. AFAIK.

But yes, if we turn out to be a damn good team, we'll still have our work cut out to slow OSU's offense down.

Hey Mr. Chuck,

Thanks for…

Hey Mr. Chuck,

Thanks for your heartfelt post.  This is a good one.  I empathize wholeheartedly.  How can I not after the few games that we coulda shoulda won - but didn't quite (due to Evil having to win a bunch so that Good can really appreciate building character) - in the past 15 years.

I see your response as acknowledgement of the pain of losing games that matter more, not of the RB's performance.  Let's face it..it doesn't matter all that much to finally lose once after so many years and a few games OSU should have lost if not for referees, Michigan's panty-bunching, or a combination thereof.

I don't disagree with you.  Tshimanga was a man amongst buckeyes (toxic tree-fruit, FYI).  But I think the reason his performance stands out to buckeye fans, was due to the gut punch you all felt based on expectations (which Eddie George didn't meet in The Game because he was always overrated) and the then-recent history of frequently losing The Game.

I totally get it.  Losing again and again to the team you hate sucks.

But this opinion about TB as having the more dominant game is not because Haskins didn't plant the field with lost, disheartened buckeyes. Lo, he planted many. No.  The very reason Hassan's performance could be considered more impressive is because he was the Eddie George bulldozer the buckeyes never had in The Game, plowing furrows through the feckless OSU defense.

The Wolverine O-line completely owned both games for the rushing attack.  The key difference was that although Haskins may have only Eddie George-level talent, he achieved Tshimanga Biakabatuka-level results.

It's ok to once again feel the pain of your solar plexus being core-sampled.  But know Haskins performance should be more concerning for OSU than Biakabatuka's was, and for this reason, it was more impressive.

Anyone know of a viable radio stream?  Tune-In radio now requires a paying membership for sports broadcasts (when did that happen?) so I'm looking for alternatives to shelling out $$ for a few games/year.

Wait for the results of the MRI before getting the injection.  Why get an injection in the hand if you don't know the source of the problem?

I had 2 injections in my c8 nerve root 2 months apart in an effort to reduce inflammation.  I was having nerve pain and tingling in the arm and hand.

It didn't work because it wasn't inflammation compressing my nerves, it was bone.

Ultimately had surgery because I couldn't PT my way out of an osseous nerve noose.  Things are getting better now, but I lost muscle I'll never regrow.

Injection can also potentially help root cause the problem, but doesn't make sense 4 days after an MRI without the results being known.

For a lot of folks, there's…

For a lot of folks, there's a significant portion of life spent dealing with consequences of events beyond their control.

Meanwhile, everyone is faced with choices to make every single day which affect their quality of life and the quality of life of others around them.

I think that things like this entire thread and Applings heroin addiction fall within the scope of the 2nd sentence above.

Choose now, live the consequences after.  At least I think that's how it works.

I'd like to interject that…

I'd like to interject that OSU pantswaisting themselves into a close game that shouldn't have been close is a good sign for us.  First chance to play an extremely significant game under Day and they made life hard on themselves.

Who knows? Maybe they'll continue to expand on this newfound capability this Saturday.

The question ' What is it …

The question ' What is it ... where anything is acceptable as long as...' has a single word answer:  tribalism.

Looking at current events, we can see it clearly extends beyond just sports :)

I'm on board with this!

Just look what the MgoBlog 'Fire Beilein' movement did for the basketball team.  We can build on this.

Honestly, I'm a little disappointed that the respondees thus far are not getting the reference.  This is clearly anti-BPONE/counterjinx/reverse psychology/whateverthefukyoucallit

Fire Harbaugh! He doesn't even have an agent or a legal representative so why not?

Not saying Indiana wins, but…

Not saying Indiana wins, but if I had to pick one of the three to get us, why would it be any other?

What evidence is this based…

What evidence is this based on?

Patterson not throwing the ball in their general direction?  DPJ not throwing it away out of bounds on a blown trick play?

Black dropped a pass he should have caught that was behind him.  This is the only incident I'm aware of in the game where the big 3 receivers didn't come through for Patterson, albeit I might have forgotten some other drop or clearly poor route.

In contrast, how many times have we seen these guys running wide open while Patterson throws to Bell in double coverage or bails out of a clean pocket to flush the play?  Way more often than I can find any fault with the receivers.

The interception on the throw to Black was 100% on Patterson and he had TE open underneath in the flat for almost certain first down yardage.

Yes, the receivers aren't producing as well as we wanted them to.  Clearly they're not good enough to inspire Patterson to throw the damn ball.

I've no idea how many of them will be pros in the next 3-4 years, but I'd give each of these 3 better odds than Patterson based on current play, skills and physical ability.

Shea's had more than enough…

Shea's had more than enough time almost every time.  He's got to get out of his own head and let his body do what his brain is preventing.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure he'll get to do that in his career at this point. Too late to learn a new offense evidently and this can't bode well for his NFL prospects next year.

Well... Indiana. Obviously.

Sorry, but your opinion is both irrelevant and annoying when you look like you're simultaneously giving and receiving a rim job.  Even if it's ironic.

One of the examples Brian…

One of the examples Brian cites for Onwenu looking like he might be getting dinged by PFF when Ruiz doesn't help with a chip on a slant... I also see as a ding.  Onwenu just didn't do anything on that play.

True, the DT was slanting to the inside of Onwenu, but Onwenu was moving that way too and just looked hesitant and slow on that play. Meanwhile, Ruiz was slanting away from the DT anyway which means this gap was Onwenu's responsibility.

Gotta ding Onwenu on that play... no idea how Brian doesn't give Onwenu a single negative particularly when he video highlighted that play.

Not saying Onwenu had a bad game... just saying that play should have been a negative for him.

Master and Commander series…

Master and Commander series of books by Patrick O'Brien is one of the best works of historical fiction or literature of the last 50 years.   Incredibly well written.  Disturbing, hilarious, exhilirating.  It puts you squarely in the bizarre world of life on the high seas in wooden ships in the age of sail when few sailors even knew how to swim.

Hard to imagine such an existence until you read these books.  Far better works of literature than Horatio Hornblower for that matter.  Lots of old nautical and ship jargon to learn, but even if you don't master that, you'll still have command of the excitement, desperation, danger and hilarity that is rife within these books.

Recommend to watch the movie after you've read at least several of the books.  It's actually very true to the detail and spirit of the books despite being a mashup.  With the exception of Dr. Maturin who is an ugly man as described in the series, but of course must be portrayed by a handsome actor.

True, Peters had more…

True, Peters had more disadvantages around him on offense last year.  But nonetheless, it seems to me that Dylan is bringing more upside as QB in the ways I mentioned above than Peters.

This is just my couch warming opinion of course.  Time will tell, barring injury.

I like Peters.  But last…

I like Peters.  But last year except for maybe a few of his best moments, he did not look as good as McCaffrey has looked so far.

Limited sample size... but I see more consistency, awareness, mobility, accuracy, and grasp of the offense from McCaffrey than I was seeing out of Peters last year.  And of course.. a higher ceiling.

And Peters was our best QB last year, McCaffrey is 2nd string this year.

Things looking up!

I don't see that.  McCaffrey…

I don't see that.  McCaffrey has looked waaay better in limited action so far than Peters did at any point last year.  Peters best game elicited a OK!  We have a functional QB!'  McCaffrey looks to be better than functional.

If McCaffrey of this year was able to magically go back in time and start all of last year (stay healthy), we win at least 2 more games... OSU and MSU.  And possibly a 3rd against Wisc.

in the 90's and have been paying for it with interest ever since.  This is why it's my fault.   Carry on for the hard truth.

People who think we were blown out and outclassed. Well, it's only half true.

If we hit our season average on WIDE fuckin OPEN 3's and they don't have red-headed step child hoop-shuei unconsciousness... not only is the score completely different, but the mentality of the game is different. They get tighter and we're less panty-bunched and it's anyone's game.

But... they had cold-blooded killers from range and we were not shooting well throughout the ncaa tourney (not counting the TxA&M aberration of joy).

Re-watch every 3-point attempt in the game and tell me who had more wide-open looks. Us or them? Yep. Us. 60/40.  70/30 before our hearts were ripped out.

Coulda been so nice.

But I had too much fun in the 90's.

6 or 11 seed

Well.. the 11 seed might not be realistic.

But if we don't win the B1G tournament and get a 3 seed, I'd rather lose the 1st game and get a 6 seed than win one or two games and get a 4 or a 5 seed.

Speaking from NCAA tourney matchup perspective anyway.
