What is going on over there?!  They have 3 QB commits right now, plus this/VA3 last year.  I am not sure if this is on Helfrich/Frost or whoever, but it seems like they haven't recruited a QB since the class of Mariota (little known fact, at one point they had both Mariota and Manziel committed).

I suppose, on the other hand, this either shows faith in O'Korn (which seems likely based on the hype) or a confidence in getting Hill.

I am gonna go with racist

but only because I think Spike's best comparison is not a guy who can't really shoot...  Though i do agree they are both white.

MSU does hate Michigan

But Michigan hates MSU too.  That is how rivalries work.  Michigan fans don't want MSU to be good because college football tends to be a zero sum game.  This fake air of superiority is somewhat annoying to MSU fans because at least they are honest about it.  You think Alabama doesnt take time to mock Auburn (they do), you think Texas cares about Texas A&M's recruiting (they do).

The point is, have fun with it at least.  I don't hate Michigan, but I certainly think it's fun to get all riled up.  Why not?  If you don't care about your rivals, then you are rooting for a team in a vacuum which, at least to me, makes little sense.

Connor

First things first, he is a member of the leadership Council at MSU, so he is respected enough to be a leader (voted on by the players).  So any comment that he isn't a captain so he must be hated must be put in that context.

Second, he literally immediately apologized to Archie Griffin when he saw the video because he realized that the optics were much worse than what he realized at the time (when he, umm, shook Griffin's hand awkwardly?).

Finally, I am sure everyone loved every Michigan QB ever (Devin Gardner actually was a super nice guy the three times I met him, so lets leave him out of my sarcasm here...).

Regardless of Sports

This is the type of thing everyone can get behind and it was a very nice gesture from MSU and OSU to support it.  Praying for the Carr family.

The Why

Michigan hates MSU for a lot of reasons.  It goes back a century and a half to when UM wanted MSU to be a sattelite campus, and continued to UM's opposition to MSU's entry into the Big Ten.

But recently, UM hates MSU simply because MSU is better.  Not necessarily academically, though MSU is world class in many areas (I have 2 degrees from UM [B.A. and J.D.] and 1 from MSU [M.A.Ed], but let's be honest, if this was only about academics, UM would hate Northwestern) but as an athletic department.  Their basketball team has been dominant since Robert Traylor rolled that SUV over, and their football team has been dominant since Ryan Mallet transferred.  MSU is better at being Michigan in football than MIchigan is.  UM had the tough teams, the big running backs, the maniacal defenses, the QBs who got drafted... now MSU does.  Kids who are Juniors in high school were 8 years old when Lloyd Carr left, and it is occurring to Michigan fans that their whole "MSU will go back to being MSU" might refer to MSU of the 50's and 60's (where they completely dominated UM).

Many here like to say that MSU is Staee (has anyone noticed that the car was a junker in that photo?  Often the type of junker than kids would beat with a sledgehammer?  Like... the rivals of that team?) and mock MSU for various reasons.  The reality is, its a rivalry.  Michigan's rivalry with OSU is like a country club rivalry (each team wants the other to be undefeated coming into the Game) whereas the UM-MSU rivalry is a gang war where any fan of either team would rather their opponent never played again... You tell me who the bigger rival is.

Since MSU joined the B1G

And the series turned into a true Home - Home rivalry (well... sorta, Michigan still was getting 2-1 until the 60's), the record is 35-29-2.  It would help to be intellectually honest about these things.

Let me Try

If you take away John L. Smith/Bobby Williams and Muddy Waters, then the record is...

26-24 so... yeah, you can't re-write history to pretend that things didn't happen (especially recent things)

68-34...

Guys, maybe we need to have a pow wow.

Since MSU joined the Big Ten, the record is 35-29 (in favor of Michigan).  I am not sure that Michigan superiority should be championed when 37 of the first 42 games took place in Ann Arbor (Michigan record in those games? 33-6-3).

Yes, we are all super impressed by wins that happened before the Korean war (and National championships too) but maybe it's best to have some reality about what MSU was.

Though MSU can (and does) claim all of the games played, MSU was not even MSU until 1955 (they were MSC and MAC beforehand).   This is to say nothing of the wins over Albion, Carlisle and Beloit.

If Michigan is really the leaders and best, why does it bolster that claim with wins against schools that would, today, be considered D3 or lower?

Please ignore my points

I had a friend use this account once, made a joke about Rich Rod, hence the remarkably negative score

The thing I am most worried about is that the class will likely not be certified in a post Comcast v. Behrend world where class certification for wage/FLSA cases (which this almost certainly is) is functionally impossible. The problem is that Justice Scalia, in his opinion, made it so that the damages must be uniform across the class which means, either the players are going to be paid uniformly across the sport (which doesn't really help the difference between Denard Robinson and Mike Kwiatkowski- I can make this comparison because I love Mike like a brother) or there is individual damages (Johnny Manziel gets money from jerseys) which will kill certification.

Though this is just one opinion, I would not be too optimistic for certification beyond the trial judge stage

Accuracy

Just for accuracy sake- Izzo didn't make a name for himself beating Michigan, he made a name for himself by winning a National Title. In addition in the last 3 years he has 2 Big Ten Championships and 2 Final Fours.

Michigan isn't actually that rich in talent, and Amaker recruited well, his teams just never got better.

MSU

Its the reverse for MSU. They view Michigan as a secondary nuisance in basketball like Michign views them in football. They want to beat Michigan but its more because its annoying to lose to an "inferior" program. For MSU the team they hate the most is Wisconsin and its not even a conversation. Bo Ryan pisses off the fans. The style of play pisses off the fans. And not being able to win in the Kohl center (until this year) pisses them off too.

In football its just the opposite obviously. MSU hates Michigan 1. then Wisconsin and ND in some order

I agree 100%. Whether or not these kids are what they appear to be in the video doesn't matter. They have to understand that if they claim Judaism then they claim everyone who is jewish. As someone of that persuasion this shit makes me sick. Granted I have a bias (I really hate greek life) but its really stuff like this that annoys me most. Alot of people on this campus have a negative view of us as is and then they start talking about their bmws and patron, they are an embarrassment to our people.

+1 all around

I think the best example of a

I think the best example of a confusion based offense is really in what people are seeing with the wildcat offense. Since denard adds in the whole "throwing the ball" wrinkle, it would in theory create more havoc. My question is whether or not Rod has ever extensively used motion (I think Brian said in the main page post that he did rarely) and also whether or not there is confidence in the team in allowing a slot to run the ball (obviously with a Justice Hayes this becomes moot)

Northwestern had 7 turnovers in that game... how would persa not have helped them?

Every Wisconsin Forward

Jon Leuer at Wisconsin. It could be that he has been there since 1998 or it could be that Bo Ryan always has a 6'10" white guy who can kinda shoot and works really hard

Could Be Worse

I am not sure where, but I am sure Kovacs could forget how to tackle and Avery could realize he is actually a converted QB and demand offensive reps?

At this point I think humor is best for all

Rucker and Rather

Is the OWI (not DUI as routinely claimed) worse because of a previous violent offense? I am not sure that the rather hall incident speaks to a .10 driving. I am not saying drinking and driving is okay (it is absolutely not and should be punished with 10 days in prison... as it was) and certainly this kid should have toed the line. But let's remember something here. He had just beaten his chief rival, it was his birthday and he went out and had a few drinks. He had a .10 (.02 above the legal limit which we all know is about a half a beer).

Had this been his second alcohol related offense, throw the book at him. But he made two independent mistakes. One was peer pressure (once again, he was 21 at the time) and the other was irresponsibility (on his 22nd birthday... totally unheard of). He should not play this weekend, or even against minnesota. But I don't think this needs to ruin his life. Being away from the team for 4 games (1/3 of his senior season) is painful and 10 days in prison is not easy either.

State

I know that the feeling is they are a joke and don't deserve anything, but the comparisons to '02 OSU and '94 colorado aren't that far off, and both were nat'l champs. Granted they haven't played like a top 5 team against NW for the first 45 minutes and for the first half of illinois, but the reality is only 7 teams are 8-0. And for the record, even though they don't play OSU... neither have 7 teams in the big ten. They aren't the best team in the country and may not even be the best team in the big ten (OSU is good but how good is pryor really?). They have a veteren group and a favorable schedule. I don't know if they are a team of destiny or if i even know what that means, but the story lines are certainly there for a bad movie

For the record, I don't think SixZero's offense will be as effective closer to the post thanksgiving shopping season. The cold makes the spread less effective...
