I've been really excited to see this team play. Due to the roster turnover and I think sometimes we underestimate how much a player can improve in an off season. I always enjoy seasons more when just winning is enough without crazy expectations. As opposed to a season that even wins are picked apart. I understand analysis and critique is part of it, sometimes it's almost to the point of feeling like a loss. I know that comes along the more they win. I'll just enjoy it while I it lasts.
It's funny reading through the comments because living here in the metroplex listening to fans and pundits they were hoping for Michigan. They believe the offense is terrible and one dimensional, plodding all the usual Michigan/Big ten tropes. I have not read anyone mention of their RB Miller a tough explosive runner. He will be a handful. I have been pulling for them all season that obviously ends now.
So you're saying TAMU is what they always have been as long as I can remember. A really talented, underperforming, undisciplined team. They have two ten win seasons since 1995 equal to that football powerhouse Kansas.
Exactly their best seasons in the SEC have been an Orange bowl win in a weird 2020 abbreviated season. Then a Cotton Bowl win, something they could have done in the Big 12.
Only thing I change is to let recruits know if committed before the early signing period and they don't sign I assume you're not sure so I will recruit other guys and there may be no room for you. Hopefully you get guys that are ready to sign like Zeb. If a kid's not sure I understand but no need to hold a spot you will never use from some other kid that wants it. Maybe I end up with a lessor talent that stays 2-3 yrs. At least I'll know what I need to do going forward with recruits and the transfer portal.
I have no problem with him saying it. What are they going to do whine more about being disrespected? Replay his comment with Mike Hart's? Screw them, I'm sick of the constant chatter and cheap shots. Stop acting like a little brother.
Exactly, it's funny how good that line became when Emmitt got behind. Before that they were a bunch of castoffs. Not to mention he missed two games after the first Superbowl in a holdout, they lost both and couldn't run the ball.
Everyone is back accept the guy he threw most of the arm punts to, Godwin. The reason they have been stomped by Michigan back to back years is they've had no plan after Barkley is stuffed and the arm punt doesn't work. I still don't believe that OL can block Michigan's top front 4. If they can do that it will be a game. We will see.
I agree PSU got better, however I don't think it was the leaps and bounds most claim. They scored over 30 points in the 3 games prior to Michigan. Then after getting crushed went back to scoring over 30 against everyone besides OSU(24) and Minnesota(29). Maybe when they faced a good defense they were not good.
Yet they scored 30 or more every game before playing Michigan and 24 or more every game after. Those defensive players really screwed their offense for one game. Ridiculous.
They use the same injury argument for blowing out Colorado in the second half but, ignore Washington blowing out the same injured Colorado. It's just a statement win for Washington. Forget that PSU's offense put up big numbers before playing the Michigan D and immediately after. Same goes for Colorado with/without their starting Qb. It has annoyed me for weeks because it has been used to discredit Michigan blowouts.
My first time watching as well. After reading threads from the first two games I expected to lose both games by double digits. Glad to see it was a massive overreaction. This team is playing unbelievable defense. Great start to the season!
Nik has always seemed to me like he would fit perfectly with the Spurs or a team that doesn't let that ball stick. A player that is not featured but plays a knockdown shooter role off draw and kick. Like Matt Bonner or Steve Kerr.
The tournament is so easy to make, somehow UCLA missed it. Anytime you get to the tournament I think it is an accomplishment. Not the greatest season ever but should not be disregarded.
I hope to see a little more Higdon. I thought he had some burst with the few carries he received. Hopefully after a full year/off-season he will have a better grasp of the position at the college level.
I've read this attempt at revisionist history before besides McGary they were mostly under the radar at the time they committed. Just from memory and quick googling.
Hardaway Jr.: 3 star unranked on Scout and Rivals. Only major offer Miami(YTM) Most posters wanted Zeigler or Prather.
Burke: 3 star #22 ranked PG on Scout and Espn #27 ranked PG and 127 overall on Rivals. Major offer: Penn State. Most expected Carlton Brundidge to be the starter at PG.
GRIII: 3 star Scout NR and Rivals 118 overall Offers from Missouri St,IUPUI, Indiana St, and Valpo. No Indana and Purdue offered after he committed. Sir Dominique Pointer was the guy most wanted.
Stauskas: 3 star #106 overall Rivals,Espn #32 SF. Offers from Kansas, Stanford, Oklahoma St., Wake, Butler, and Iowa St. Not many blue bloods there. The Kansas offer was thought to be uncommittable until other guys decided.
So none of them were the blue chips at signing that they became by the final rankings. Seems like a great job at evalution.
Exactly, I don't remember watching the Elite 8 game against Florida and wishing we got highly ranked Casey Prather instead of 3 star Hardaway with his best offer from Miami.
LeBron is a great player and one of the most physically dominant players ever. I just have a hard time saying a player that put up 8 pts. in a finals game against the Mavericks while struggling to guard Jason Terry all series better than Jordan. I think it's ok to possibly be the greatest player of your era without all the comparisons to past greats. Just a few years ago so many were saying Kobe now he's jumped over him straight to Jordan. Now he's just ignored and I can't stand Kobe.
Yet I won't be surprised if at some point in the season we hear how difficult it is to get all the new players on the same page. Or how they really miss the leadership from last year. Then they will get a lower seed and beat overseeded teams to make the sweet sixteen. What a tremendous coaching job by Izzo.
I believe youth is part of the issue. The main thing is when teams that shoot a lot of jump shots they tend not to drive the ball. When teams to into a cold streak you want drive the ball and get to the foul line or get it into the post man and let him operate. The goal is to get a closer shot or get fouled. A veteran team or player will usually attack the basket when the jumpshot stops falling.
Since Groce has been their coach I take extra joy in beating them. I know I should move on but, I refuse to completely get over losing to him in 2011-12.
I know no one claimed it was foolproof. I think today, in this game and the MSU game shows why coaches are hesitant to tell players to foul because sometimes they panic in those situations.
I think guys leave because they always believe the most positive view of their chances in the draft. A lot of players think the longer you stay the more holes scouts can find in your game.
Recruiting a stretch four or big men in general has been weird because I've seen so many players 6'8 and up want/attempt to play like a guard offensively. Yet they don't want to play for Beilien because they don't feed the post enough. So many of these guys want to be considered versatile players. I think Beilien's offense encourages versatility. Maybe I'm confused hearing players/fans make these claims and I rarely see a consistent post game with good footwork in college basketball.
Funny thing is a lot of people said he shouldn't have taken JMo. Most big men need time to develop unless they are going to be lottery picks. Even some of the lottery guys are just taken for potential. It's frustrating but the way it goes.

Hopefully it's the same plan he had for Taron Vincent.

Go Blue!

While they finish 3rd or 4th as well in their division. As Jimbo gets another 10 million. With nothing to show for it.

They also lost to two 5-3 teams. Miss St. and Arkansas. Jimbo will usually get one win a year to get the heat off.
How about inside the 5 staying spread out and running instead of loading the box with a big formation. Just once. Please

That's the thing it, I don't think it will ever go away. They are still replaying Hart all these years later may as well lean into it.
