Really good article by Nick, and definitely worth reading.  The Athletic has some really great content on the Pistons, Lions, Tigers and Red Wings as well.  All of the Detroit teams have really good coverage there.

Likely not the closest relationship with an AD, but his personal track coach is a Michigan grad school alum whose son is currently a walk-on on the football team, and Nyck also views Ziyah Holman as a big sister sort.  We've got several relationships here that make a positive impression not to mention a host of good, successful, current players on campus that come from the DMV area.  Hopefully, with a good visit, we can get Nyck to call Ann Arbor home for the next 3-4 years.

I'm in Canada with my family now, and we crossed the border 2 days ago.  I can't speak to any other experience, but they didn't select any of us for testing.  We filled in all the appropriate stuff on the ArriveCAN app, showed our documents at the border, answered the normal questions about where we were going while in Canada, and that was it.  Hope you have a nice trip!

Thank you, Brian and Seth…

Thank you, Brian and Seth for stating plainly how obviously dumb Michigan's current NIL approach is.  Please, please if you are able to talk to any upper level administration, boosters, or others in positions of influence, please relay these frustrations.  We need to play by the same rules that others are.

It's a little crazy, but when it was in Detroit, it was a really cool experience to go.  I'd like to take my kids up for some of the Toronto matches if possible.

As I recall, we gave up the lead in that game because we couldn't run the ball effectively and couldn't throw after Speight broke his collarbone.  Having our best O-lineman available could've swung the run game more in our favor.

We 100% need to bring it in that same way for Ohio State.  I know it's an earlier game, but we need to find a way to have that energy in the stadium that day.

Nice update, Seth.  I can attest firsthand to your younger self having questionable facial hair decisions as many of us did; however it was a bit forgivable since that was the era of ridiculously long side burns for no apparent reason.  We were all there.  Welcome to the club, Ambry.

The more statues that…

The more statues that highlight the unique and rich history of the program, the better.  I believe we should have an area with a statue for every man named to the College Football Hall of Fame, all Heisman winners (although, as of this year, all of ours are now in the College Football Hall of Fame - but it would have given us license to erect a statue to Woodson before now), all former U of M players named as NFL Hall of Famers, Willis Ward, and Jerry Ford.  I think that would be quite a group, a cool attraction to see on campus, and something to show new recruits along with the All-American wall we have.

This is a good way to look…

This is a good way to look at it.  Also, that scholarship frees up again next year.  So, we're trading a guy whose only other offer comes from Missouri State for one season of a Pro Football Focus All-American plus 3 more years of another kid on scholarship who is likely to be a higher rated recruit than Hickson, statistically speaking, since he was our lowest rated recruit in this class.  I'll take that trade.

Does getting fired for killing a player automatically put Durkin at the top of the OSU coaching staff under Meyer?  I would think so seeing as he's worked with Meyer before and Meyer has collected a wife abuser, a player abuser, and a child rapist protector who were already on the staff.  Seems like after this, Durkin would be a natural fit in that group.

I rarely if ever login to comment, but...

This might be the comment of the year.  Basketball recruiting rarely gets me excited, and when we do finally land a 5 star like McGary, mitigating circumstances flame out his career in a bit of a parallel to MSU with Malik McDowell.  Both programs survive on making hay with "coach 'em up" candidates while the big boys feast on the top end talent.

The hands down the front of your pants pose is a good look for a prospective engineer.  It's what I had on my M card back in the day.

We're not good at this game

We got him a single ride in a go kart.  I'm pretty sure Tosh Lupoi probably peed himself seeing the pictures and knowing what Bama has to offer in that regard.

What a great post

It hurts me to see Da' Shawn Hand among the pictured.  Maybe this is the "earthquake simulator" that turned the tide to the Tide.

2001 Line

I logged in after years of lurking because I think that the O-Line coach that coached up that great 2001 line might have been available for hire...  Seems like his track record as an O-Line coach was pretty good.

In one of my dressers

I still have a piece of the 40 yard line in a sandwich bag.

Favorites

I lived in the land of Bourbon for a number of years, and if you really want a good one and money isn't tight, try the Pappy VanWinkle 23 year.  Fantastic stuff but the last I looked, a fifth was in the $80 range.  For more manageable pricing, you can't go wrong with Woodford Reserve.

The main difference in Graham and Suh

Graham put up his stats from Defensive End which means he is on the outside of the line and typically faces a single offensive lineman with the occasional double team (although the double team probably happened more often with Graham than most DEs). Suh on the other hand plays Defensive Tackle which in the traditional sense often demands double and even triple teams.

Often, a great DT will have next to no measureable statistics because his primary job is to occupy blockers to free up his DEs and Linbackers to make the tackles/sacks. The fact that Suh was able to put up those overall stats is amazing in the context of his position which is why I believe he's a freak of nature. If he put up the same stats from LB or even DE, they would be merely great. Just my take. I'm not a football coach, but I've watched stats enough over the years to know that Defensive Tackles, even the really good ones, don't normally do this.

Is it wrong to feel this way?

I'd like the Lions to sit their 4 or 5 competent players for the rest of the season so that we don't get a fluke win and disqualify ourselves from the Suh sweepstakes. I was fortunate enough to have been in the stadium in '97 for all of Woodson's performances, and I haven't seen a defensive player dominate the game like he did until this year with Suh. The guy is quite honestly special. Graham is awesome and should've been an All-American in my book, but Suh is at a whole different level IMHO.

By the way

Many, many congratulations on getting this community involved and doing a great thing. Keep up the fantastic work!
