I'd go with Notre Dame, even I'd go with Notre Dame, even though Texas Tech's loss is a lot more relevant. I'm not sure Michigan State deserves to even be a contender; they got beat by a better team, plain and simple. They already exceeded expectations, and it was obvious their coach didn't want to go to the Rose Bowl.
Agreed. Minor stepped played a bigger role this year than I had expected due to the beginning of the season given the freshmen and lingering injuries. I also believe he will definitely step up next year which is good because our offense will still be fairly young.
I guess that would be I guess that would be hypocritical of me to say that I wouldn't root for them even if it helped us. I don't know. I haven't been put into that situation, thankfully. Though I think it's different for a fan than a coach, but maybe not. I have rooted against them in the NC game - that's more what I meant. Even though it sucks for the Big Ten's image, I can't willingly hope they win - won't be a problem this year, thankfully. I think it's just more telling of the rivalry in general between us and MSU when I would root for Michigan State out of conference any game, but it isn't the same in return.
I have faith in Barwis. What about the Wisconsin comeback? I feel like there have been a couple games when we have played better in the second half (we have also fell apart, occasionally), but then again that could just be attributed to inconsistency. Given the struggles this year, I'm not sure we can make any definite conclusions, but I still feel Barwis is definitely doing better than our previous S&C and will live up to expectations if he hasn't already. Just looking at our defensive line should be proof enough.
This is actually a valid This is actually a valid point. Now I have a mixture of mostly hate and bewilderment with a dash of pity mixed in since this is simply further proof that he (and the rest of the MSU fan base) suffer from significant inferiority complexes. I can't wait until I see some of my friends who (sadly) went to MSU, just to see what they can possibly say. There aren't too many ways to defend Dantonio. He's obviously just catering to the fans who hate Michigan so much they can't see the potential benefit for themselves with a Michigan win. Win or lose, it's still the Rose Bowl at the end of the day. And for the record, I wouldn't need to think twice about rooting for MSU in a bowl game. If not because we share (sort of...) the state of Michigan, at least for Big Ten. OSU is the only Big Ten team I'll never root for.
