The reason why schools of lesser academic quality get repuations for having more attractive women is because those schools have a higher percentage of women who spend more time on their clothes and make up than their studies; that's why they are there instead of at a better school.

The 2012 recruiting class had already been signed the previous january, so Hoke couldn't go back in time and add a QB in response to the Nebraska game.
Doesn't mean it wasn't a stupid decision not to take a QB that year, ater taking a flier the year before.

Which I believe is an amazing high school.
However, a lot of the ones you listed are good, and honestly I wouldn't go to any that are more than a 20-30 minute drive away
But in all honesty, if you are in a decent school district (Rochester, Ann Arbor, Bloomfield, Troy, etc) just send em to public school and pay for their college tuition down the road.

We return 8 on offense; the only losses were Gardner, Funchess, and Miller.
and don't we return 7 on defense too?
|43 weeks 1 day ago||Everyone here banging on about how RR's defense was his downfall||
remember that when he was hired (and hired his second DC) Michigan was being incredibly stingy on assistant pay.Jeff Casteel would have followed RR except it would have meant taking a big pay cut.
RR nonetheless did have a number of missteaps. He actually did have a decent DC (I think) in Schafer, but Schafer was a 4-3 guy and RR had a bizarre insistance on the 3-3-5 despite not knowing anything about coaching defenseive, probably due to his cronies on the defensive coaching staff. He could have also been a bit more tactful about certain aspects of being the coach at Michigan.
But dear God please don't pretend that he wasn't undermined as badly as any new HC has ever been at a P5 job. Before he even coached one game he had most of the local media gunning for him due to BS like the WV document scandal and Boren transfering because RR shouted and swore (like 90% of college coaches). Lloyd and the alumni players did at best nothing to help him and at worst did crap like encouraging players to go to Sparty. The Freep created a massive controversy out of nothing with practicegate. Oh, and lets not forget the ossified husk of a roster that he was left by lloyd carr, which had a terrible back 7 on defense and something like 2 remaning starters and 6 olineman on offense.
You hire Jeff Casteel at the beginning and RR is probably still coach here. Heck, you hire Jeff Casteel after 2010 and RR is still coach here, at least if you removed all the off the field submarining he took.

but that's kinda irrelavent given that the GOT justice system is six degrees of f'd up by our standards (See eg: trial by combat)
If you agree to have a crime perpetuated against you ONLY BECAUSE YOU HAVE BEEN COERCED INTO DOING SO, it is unquestionably 100% rape. And yall are dense as all get out if you think she agreed to either the marriage or the sex of her own accord.
|1 year 1 week ago||No, its pretty clear she didn't willingly marry Ramsay||
Oh wow, she discussed it with Littlefinger. And what do you think would have happened had she said no to Littlefinger? Sansa is smart enough by now to know exactly what happens to people who cross Littlefinger.
She was forced into marriage, and the sex was essentially coerced, since refusing to consumate the marriage would likely land her in a session of Ramsay's Super Happy Flaying Fun Time. Even within the context of a coerced sexual encounter, Ramsay violently and aggressively took her and used her in ways she was not prepared for, or okay with, because he knew that she couldn't say no.
It was absolutely, 100% rape and the fact that you can't see that is profoundly disturbing.

I did, in fact, happen to notice that the article portrays sexual assault as a phenomenon that exists independently of greek life. I also noticed this part: "Studies have shown that fraternity men are three times as likely to commit rape".
So while it is obvious that sexual assault happens outside of the greek context (a point neither myself nor anyone else was disputing) , frat bros are far more likely the commit rape, because even ones that don't encourage gang rape as an initiation ritual have plenty of misogyny baked into the system.
In any case, none of that was present in my comment, which was about how supposed oversight of frats is a joke (see: this article, where the system did nothing or next to nothing to numerous and systemic sexual assaults from the greek system, and in fact did plenty to protect them).
I don't know why it would matter if I knew someone that went to one of those schools or not (although I do) or that you knowing a victim of sexual assault somehow invalidates my opinion if I did not (I know several, victimized in both greek and non-greek situations, and I find it incredibly offensive that you would try to wave their experiences in my face like a badge of authority).
Please try to read this post more carefully than you did my last one.
|1 year 26 weeks ago||Yeah, no.||
Did you even read the article? The current oversight provided by universites over greek life is a joke.
Sure, people might form secret organizations, but in order to grow to any degree they'd have to add more members....which would lead to discovery of the groups, and the prompt suspension/expulsion of the members.
At that point, joining a secret male organization would become more trouble than it's worth, and they'd fade away.
|1 year 32 weeks ago||I pry should have phrased it better||
I'm including everyone after Henson too.
|1 year 32 weeks ago||Two points||
First, no, John Navarre didn't get as much crap as Gardner gets. He definitely got a lot (and it was definitely out of proportion given that he lead the team to back to back 10-3 seasons) but while people grumbled when he struggled it never approached anything serious except when Drew Henson was on the team.
Second, while everyone loves Denard, many people who love him trip over themselves to qualify that love with "well he may not have been a good passer, but...", questioning his ability to actually be a QB.
Here are Denard's passing stats from 2010, when he had a real QB coach.
Completion Percentage: 62.5%
Also pretty comperable to Henne, except Denard also did this
1702 yards rushing, 6.6 yards per attempt, 14 TDS
But Denard was the one who was/is criticized as a terrible passer, not Henne.
|1 year 32 weeks ago||I think that only helps my point||
Gardner puts up equal/slightly better numbers despite the train wreck around him. Yet people wanted to replace him with Morris, despite there being nothing to demonstrate that Morris would be ready. Now why is that?
|1 year 32 weeks ago||Hmmm||
I'll give you Minor, and Toussaint seemed like he could have been good with an oline that gave him space
But that's what, two guys going back to 04 (given that Hart came in being what he was)? Pretty terrible track record.
|1 year 32 weeks ago||It's pretty understandable if you think about it||
Devin Gardner 2013:
Completetion percentage: 60.3%
Chad Henne (best season, 06):
Completion percentage: 61.9%
So, almost identical (or better) numbers for Gardner, yet he was torn apart last year. Henne gets praised as probably the best UM qb since Henson.
I wonder what noticeable characteristic would cause one of these two to get blasted and called incompetent while the other one recieves praise.....something about Gardner (and Denard) that hasn't generally been true of UM QB's in the last 40 years...
|1 year 34 weeks ago||Actually now he is! :D||

Dave Brandon, Brady Hoke, and the rest of the football/athletics leadership are all incompetent hacks, but this is what our program inbreeding has done to us.
|1 year 37 weeks ago||Did they?||

|1 year 37 weeks ago||Yeah, I was actually||
Student section shrank by a third. and general admission for hockey now means "get there 1.5 hours before hand or be prepared for the worst seats in the house". The scoreboard is nicer, but the end result was huge areas devoted to "disabled seating" that inevitably are never used by the disabled (only for recruits).
Meanwhile, the areana feels half empty because of the huge space allotments to luxury upper deck seating that is never filled.
Half of the hockey threads this past season were complaining about how the quality of Yost has nosedived in the past four years.
Sure, but in actuality, the only ones that matter are football, basketball, and hockey. And he has had a direct role in making two of thsoe worse (and bball is only better because the coaches and upgrades were already in place before him. I shudder to think what will happen when/if there is a coaching change for bball).
|1 year 37 weeks ago||So let's break this down||
1. Has nothing to do with being an athletic director or managing Michigan sports in the 21st century (this is the disease I have been talking about; if you played for Bo people will worship you even tho it means diddly squat anymore)
2. Regent's don't do jack beyond making sure the Uni is profitable. Michigan has been profitable for almost it's entire existance. A for effort Brandon!
3. Former CEO: See, "rips off model of business competitors and why that doesn't work in college football"
4. Being AD in and of itself doesn't mean jack. I could be hired AD tomorrow, doesn't mean I'd suddenly be qualified to run the department.
5. "Father of four". Congrats, he can procreate. So can any drunk in a bar on a friday.
6. "led U of M out of stretchgate": "didn't f-up the conversion out of the non-controversy that was stretch gate (which only existed because MICHIGAN MEN working at the freep decided that Rich Rod didn't deserve to coach at U of M)
7. "unparalled financial success": The department was profitable before him. It'll be profitbale after him. The university literally has nothing to spend that extra profit on (besides administrator pay and worthless upgrades to the facilities of non-money sports)
|1 year 37 weeks ago||You root for the team nonetheless||
It isn't their fault at the end of the day. They are mostly all top recruits who figured they'd be able to dominate their compeition. They didn't know what they were getting into.
|1 year 37 weeks ago||He attended UMich||
and even played football under Bo, thus making him a "Michigan Man" (TM) even if every action he takes indicates a soulless corporate sponge who only cares about short term profit and BRAND PROMOTION instead of what makes Michigan Michigan.
I hate, hate, hate, hate HATE the concept of a "Michigan Man" and the sooner it dies in a fire the sooner we as a program can move on.
|1 year 37 weeks ago||Hmmm||
1. "renovation of Yost" slashed seat amounts (particularly in the student section" in favor of high end seats that are never filled (and these renovations were in the works before him anyway)
2. Renovation of Crisler: (also approved before he took over)
3. "countless other things for non revenues sports": Who gives a crap. No one other than the participants and familiy members of those participants cares about those sports.
Obviously Dave Brandon isn't responsible for the Oline. But he IS responsible for so much else.
And by the way, I actually didnt hate how the oline performed tonight.
|1 year 37 weeks ago||That's a joke, right?||
His claim to fame is turning Dominoes Pizza around, which he did buy copying the recipe of similar pizza chains. Customers came because Dominoes suddenly didn't taste awful.
Unfortunately, Brandon has no idea how to apply his policy of "rip off the success of the market competitors" to college football.
Michigan graduates 6,000 students per year. Let's stop pretending that one is a special snowflake and deserves deference just because one did so.
|1 year 37 weeks ago||Defend your statements and offer a reubttal||
What good has Dave Brandon done other than increase "profit" margin (read, more pay for athletics administrators)?
|1 year 37 weeks ago||Cause being a man of Michigan||
has meant SOOOO much amirite?!
Our program needs to get over this disease where being associated with the program suddenly makes you God's gift to man. Dave Brandon is a joke. Jury is still out on Brady Hoke, but in year four we are getting blown out by ND.
Rich Rod was in all likelihood gonna fail cause of his inability to coach a defense, but at least that guy didn't get hired based on his tangential connection to a program that hasn't truly existed for a decade.
|1 year 37 weeks ago||All I can say is||
This better be the last I ever hear of the concept of "Michigan Man". ***k me with a stick. Our arrogance almost deserved to be punished with this. Dave Brandon can't be fired a moment too soon
|2 years 5 weeks ago||Oh yes||
One factor you don't see discussed enough is that over the past decade U of M has slowly been admitting more and more rich east coasters and less and less in-state students. And the in-state students they do admit anymore come from rich suburbs like west bloomfield and rochester hils (in-state tuition has skyrocketed and Michigan is terrible at offering grant aid).
The out of state kids havent grown up with Michigan football in their family most of the time, and even if they follow sports all their memories of Michigan football are of mediocre teams.
Because of all this, plus the skyrocketing ticket prices, many U of M students from lower income levels can't afford t ickets when they are already borrowing money for education. This means that those same disconnected rich east-coasters make up a larger percentage of the students who buy tickets, and many of them would rather get wasted outside a frat than go to the games. The sunk cost of the tickets is nothing to them; they can afford to buy and not go. If they do go, they are disinterested and spend the time socializing instead of watching the game.
|2 years 11 weeks ago||The big question for potential applicants, then||
is, to what degree is Michigan Law's slightly worse placement due to less effective placement/reputation, or to self-selection into the less sexy PI jobs?

(Fed Clerkships using 2012 data)

|2 years 11 weeks ago||True true||
And I don't think either one of us would say going to a top school in those regions (or a top X school with national reach) is a bad move, particularly with a scholarship
It's all the other schools that are the problem. Florida doesn't need 12 schools. Every school in Michigan except U of M (and maybe Wayne) does a horrendous job of getting their grads any kind of job, let alone a legal one.
|2 years 11 weeks ago||I mean, it's not that Michigan isn't a good law school||
It is, and is one of 17 or so schools with national reach.
However, it does appear to be performing a tad worse than its peers in the job numbers.
|2 years 11 weeks ago||It is possible that this is true.||
However, I've met my share of big types who are equally anti-social. Sometimes more so. I don't think PI or big law people have a higher percentage of these types.
|2 years 11 weeks ago||Only 8.5% of Michigan grads got federal clerkships||
An additional 3.4 % got local or state clerkships, perhaps you saw the total number?
Gunning for dem federal clerkships is uphill sledding unless you attend a top six school in any case.
|2 years 11 weeks ago||This is objectively wrong||
Big Firm %, Class of 2012
University of Michigan: 43.3%
Anyone wondering why Harvard, Stanford, and Yale do less well than expected should know that many of their students (especially at Yale) do equally prestigious Federal Clerkships/Legal Academia/other awesome things.
Michigan really only places better than Georgetown out of the T14
|2 years 11 weeks ago||Michigan is indeed at a disadvantage for that very reason||
Most of the other schools have a large home market (NYC, Chicago, Boston, DC, SF) that they can send grads too. Michigan only has Detroit, which most U of M grads don't want to work in anyway (only 12.5% of Michigan Law grads stay in Michigan)
I've heard the law school has recently made some efforts to reform the placement office. We'll see when the new employment figures come out in April if that worked.
|2 years 11 weeks ago||When you are paying 50k a year||
being able to pay back your debt (i.e employment) is really the only figure that matters. USNWR's rankings are indeed flawed but their recent inclusion of employment numbers was a rare good move for them.
I mean, these are the top law schools in the county. They ALL get heavy scrutiny. And Michigan has lagged behind its peers in two very important catagories for several years now:
1. placement into long term, full time jobs for which a JD is required
2. placement into "big law" and federal clerkships, which are generally considered to be the most prestigious (and high paying) forms of legal employment.
|2 years 11 weeks ago||Both are pretty terrible law schools||
but Tennessee does place almost 10% more of its grads into full time, long term legal jobs, which is fairly substantial.
Not that either school is worth attending without a full ride and the desire to never work outside of Tennessee.
|2 years 11 weeks ago||Actually||
law schools are getting a deservedly bad rap because they collectively graduate 50k students per year when there are only around 25k legal job openings each year. So many law students are paying 40-50k to end up unemployed, or underemployed.
There are almost no law schools worth paying full price for outside of Harvard, Yale, and Stanford. And probably only 25 or so law schools worth attending at all.
|2 years 11 weeks ago||Its a completely warranted||
Its a completely warranted drop though. Michigan Law's employment statistics have been 12th or 13th for the past couple of years now, sadly. It's actually a bit overranked at 10th.

|2 years 38 weeks ago||See, I never saw latecomers as much of a problem.||
Only once in three years have I had any arguments with people about seating, and that was because drunk frat bros misread their ticket and thought we were in their seats. And I usually would jump up into rows 15-40 on a regular basis.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||I certainly won't,||
I bet a lot of people will though. Freshman with too much time on their hands, perhaps.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||Current student, and I am not at all pumped for GA||
maybe if it was a general "let everyone in whenever" where you show up and walk in to wherever there is seating, I wouldn't mind but this whole business with the queue and wristbands is terrible.
And this is coming from a senior who pretty much never pre-gamed last year, was always in the stands by 20 minutes before the game, and has never missed a game and only left early once.
In the past I knew I could start walking down to the stadium 4o minutes before the game and be in my seat before the band took the field, and I could use the morning to get some crucial studying done. Now I am going to have to show up hours before hand just to get halfway decent spots.
This won't solve the sparseness of the upper levels of the student section, not with the way they've jacked up the prices from 26 dollars per ticket when I was a freshman to 40 dollars per ticket today. The people who only came because its a social event just didn't buy tickets this year, as we saw by the fact that the studen allotment didn't sell out.
Shrinking the student section would have been better. What we currently have just punishes those of us who have always been loyal fans, but don't have 4 hours to kill sitting in a queue on a saturday morning/early after noon on top of the 4 hours already dedicated to watching the game.
|2 years 49 weeks ago||Sadly, overcrowded dorm rooms are NOT a thing of the past||
North Quad opened, it's true, but that only added about 400 beds; its a relatively small dorm despite its size (lot of academic space in that building.
In addition, Baits I closed down for good due to problems with the infrastructure, removing 571 beds.
IN ADDITION, the University is going through a series of dorm renovations right now, meaning that for the near future at least one dorm will be closed per year. Last year it was East Quad, next year it will be South Quad, year after that West Quad, and I think they are doing Markley after that.
The university is so squeezed for dorm space that they actually flipped housing priority; whereas in the past Seniors chose before Juniors, who chose before sophomores, ect, now the freshman are assigned first, then the sophomores pick, THEN the juniors and seniors. It is almost impossible now to get housing as an upperclassmen. This isn't THAT bad, as most upperclassmen didn't live in dorms anyway, but it still sorta sucks that the current upperclassmen get hit with both reversed housing priority AND general admission to football, hockey, and basketball.

|5 years 16 weeks ago||Even tho it was a 1-1 period||
Michigan played really well. Miami had 4 power plays in the period (to our 1) and only scored on 1. Considering we are on the road and they are the #3 PP in the country, thats not bad. There were tons of penaltys in that period, and I doubt there will be many in the third, which favors us, as Miami has been completely outplayed in this game during 5 on 5. As someone else mentioned, the third is their worst period as well. If we can get the next goal, this game is ours.
|5 years 18 weeks ago||um, what?||
"At this time, allow to express a slight fear of a second-straight commit with a meager offer sheet. Say what you will about Rich Rodriguez's on-field product, but he generally recruited very well, with only a couple prospects per year worthy of the "sleeper" label. So far, Hoke's staff is 2-for-2 among commitments, with a few higher-rated commits jumping ship so far."
I have a very different memory. I remember the vast majority of RR's recruits in the last two classes having MAC level offers, and he didn't even have the excuse of having 3 weeks to recruit.
|5 years 18 weeks ago||This Alaska series is important.||
They are one of only two teams to have beaten us in regulation CCHA play this year, and it was our worst loss of the year. If we can get a sweep that would be huge.
|5 years 19 weeks ago||Oh,||
But what's up with all this tiger droppings malarky?
|5 years 20 weeks ago||I would love it if he is hired.||
who would you prefer, him or hoke?
|5 years 20 weeks ago||Seriously?||
Jim Harbaugh's comments were about how football players are steered into programs that are tailor made for just getting the football players through school; ie, not what the overwhelming majority of students take.
The type of education one is recieves is dependant on three things.
1. Faculty: Michigan has a much larger endowment, and just recently was able to continue poaching away the top professors from the Ivy league. State just had to slash programs because they are in terrible shape financially. ADVANTAGE: Overwhelmingly Michigan.
2. Facilities: Again, due to the larger endowment and better financial situation, Michigan will always be able to outperform state in this capactiy. A recent visit to the MSU campus will tell just how bad the infestructure situation is at state. ADVANTAGE: Michigan
3. Quality of your peers: Michigan has the toughest admissions policy in the state, and will admit under 40% of applicants this year. In addition, 36% of UM students are out of state, despite OOS tuition being over 50k. By contrast, MSU is 94% instate (ie, no one outside of michigan thinks it is worth attending) and their admissions rate is over 70%. Getting into state is literally a joke. Michigan's ACT range was 28-32, while State's was 24-28.
Oh, and every single ranking out there will give Michigan the advantage by a huge margin over state, but why let facts and statistics get in the way of letting this tool think that State is even remotely comparable?
|5 years 20 weeks ago||actually, you are wrong. You can dispute the divinity of Jesus,||
but virtually all respected historians would agree that he at least existed as a historical person, and that there is roughly the same amount of evidence for his existance as there is for Julius Ceaser.
|5 years 20 weeks ago||everyone bring the noise tomorrow||
boo especially loud when the refs skate out. I know I will.
|5 years 20 weeks ago||I don't know the ccha rules very well||
do we get any points for losing in ot?
|5 years 20 weeks ago||They were totally trying to find ways to disallow it||
state will pry get a "make up call" in over time.
|5 years 20 weeks ago||YES!||
Suck it refs!
|5 years 20 weeks ago||and they score||
if I'm berenson I'm complaining after the game. 5 of the 8 penalteis have been soft.
|5 years 20 weeks ago||this is bullshit||
State has had 8 penalties now to Michigan's 3. with two 5 on 3's
|5 years 20 weeks ago||anyone else think the announcers are being total homers for||
state tonight? I feel like anytime state is close to or makes a big play, the announcer freaks out, but when Hunwick has a great little section of two awesome saves, the announcers focuse on "OMG STATE TAKING SO MANY SHOTS"
|5 years 20 weeks ago||Brian didn't say he was in the mix though, did he?||
The impression I got from that update was that he thinks Fitzgerald would be a good second choice, not that it was necessarily happening or even on Brandon's radar.
|5 years 21 weeks ago||He gave no comment because he doesn't know what||
will happen. anyone thinking this means he is gone is reading way too much into it. For all he knows, charlie weis could be the coach. For another, he might think its bad to talk as if his coach is being fired when it might not happen.
Heavens to betsie, I really, REALLY don't understand the whole "new coach= no more denard meme".
|5 years 21 weeks ago||If you are wondering if this thread makes me happy or sad,||
it makes me.....sad :(
|5 years 21 weeks ago||Michigan gets the win 4-2||
shocked that it wasn't worse. Michigan completely outplayed them
|5 years 22 weeks ago||Sooooo what we're saying here is that||
Jim Harbaugh may or may not be coming to michigan, and Rich Rodriguez may or may not be fired?
|5 years 22 weeks ago||It souldn't and it won't||
Short of coming out and destroying them like 50-0, this game won't change my opinion at all.
|5 years 24 weeks ago||Wisconsin would roll MSU if they played today||
as would Ohio State. I'm not too worried, it'll be difficult for them to whine about how they were robbed once Alabama has their way with them.
|5 years 24 weeks ago||When are we getting our new recruits?||
The way we keep dropping is making me very sad :(
|5 years 24 weeks ago||I was in the student section..||
I have to say, as much as I see people poo pooing the announced attendance, there weren't THAT many gaps in the crowd. I think there were one or two spots along the outer edges and that was it. Maybe 5,000 less than capacity AT MOST. Student section was packed too.
Best of all, there were almost no sparties :)
|5 years 24 weeks ago||*sigh*||
this is all getting oh so very old....
|5 years 25 weeks ago||I am going to be bummed if he signs this..||
I think he would be great as a coach here.
|5 years 25 weeks ago||Here's a fun one||
|5 years 25 weeks ago||so in other words...||
there wouldn't be a size problem if Jim Harbaugh was coaching eh? so there wouldn't be that much of a transition on the oline right?
|5 years 32 weeks ago||This is what I figured||
when I confronted said fan with no less than 6 different undergraduate rankings, he started going "well, but State was a better FIT for me"
whatever that means...
|5 years 33 weeks ago||well this is just super||
At least I resisted the urge to fight every msu fan I could see
|5 years 33 weeks ago||well..||
I got in this past year with a 3.6 unweighted (4.2 w) and a 31 on my act. Extra factors that helped me out was attending a fairly prestigous private school (40 kids accepted to U of M out of a class of 160), taking the hardest possible courseload I could (including the IB diploma program) and possibly my position as track captain.
|5 years 35 weeks ago||I've seen him three times||
People never make a fuss over him, he's usually with one or two people. I heard him humming a tune one of the times, which was kinda cool.
|5 years 36 weeks ago||Total delay of game..||
and sparty also scored a touchdown where the reciever stepped out (not forced) and came back in and scored.
|5 years 36 weeks ago||Really OP?||
We are 3 and effing 0. Please man up.
|5 years 37 weeks ago||Michigan wins||
|5 years 38 weeks ago||Not gonna lie||
It may have been a mistake to play devin. Burned his redshirt and put the nail in the coffin on tate.
|5 years 38 weeks ago||Definitely 8||
Uconn, Bowling green, Umass, Indiana, MSU, Iowa, Illinois, Purdue
|5 years 38 weeks ago||hey||
|5 years 40 weeks ago||well then..||

|5 years 41 weeks ago||one public university in the||
one public university in the top 50....unbelieveable.
|5 years 42 weeks ago||we have to start winning this||
we have to start winning this year, if only because I am tired of the stupid media taking cheap pot shots just because they can
|5 years 43 weeks ago||thanks! can't wait to see us||
thanks! can't wait to see us pummel Uconn in the opener! :)
|5 years 43 weeks ago||I'm trying to look at the||
I'm trying to look at the seating charts, but they don't show where the rows are. how far back, roughly, is row 39?
|5 years 48 weeks ago||I think we are all forgetting something||
The op said that he took the ib. If that's the case, he is in. Michigan loves the ib. From my graduating class, there were 20 ib students who applied to Michigan. All but 1 got in. I was accepted this year with a gap of 3.6 unweighted and a gpa of 31, very similar to the op. I would be very surprised if he was rejected. As for backups, msu isn't that bad, but foremother good options, go out of state
|6 years 13 weeks ago||As a current senior in the IB prorgram AT Notre Dame Prep||
I can tell you that it isn't easy, and is definitely harder than the AP classes I have taken due to all the extra requirements IB throws at you. I am somewhat unsure as to whether it helped me as far as college admissions goes; I got in to Michigan, Miami (Fl), Florida, Loyola Chicago, and Aquinas, and am still waiting to hear from USC and Boston College. I feel like I probably could have gotten in to these places taking AP.
One of my fellow IB'ers is the #1 ranked student in our graduating class this year; you probably know him. He has a perfect GPA in the toughest possible classes, and scored a 36 on his ACT as well. He got into Notre Dame, but was defered from MIT and Cal Tech.
IB does not ruin your social life, but you life DOES revolve around it. You have virtually no flexability with choosing classes, and senior year is unfairly hard, as you have to watch your fellow classmates, even those in AP, take it easy while YOU take care of all the extra, out of class requirements for IB. Not fun.
But, from what I have heard, all this extra work prepares you very well for college; I sure hope so, as I am enrolling at Michigan this fall, and I hear the classes are tough.
As far as GPA goes, mine actually went up, but that probably has more to do with my increased self-motivation junior year rather than IB.
That is my perspective, FWIW, and I hope it helps you decide.
