Everyone has their opinion on this matter. We all have different expectations and I believe as we get older we might even change on how we participate when attending a football game. Our priorities take emotional shifts. We don't become less of a fan, we may just change. I still get up when those around me stand, but I also can cheer from my seat.
But don't be the idiot that is the only one standing and yells at those around him to be a "real fan" and get off their butts to watch the 2nd down and 15.
If I am not mistaken the Kentucky program before Calipari was not always considered the most clean program. So when you mix a questionable unethical program with Calipari's history, professional skepticism tends to pull me towards the majority on this one.
And anyone that wants to play on the edges tends to slip.

Without a potential specifically stating they have had contact, I'm along for the ride. Most of us assume based on circumstantial thought that some individuals may be contacted and that is fine. But to say he hasn't or has seems equally a guess.
I think JUB was floating his name and it got some legs.
Maybe Les was contacted to be an assistant coach! We are going to accumulate the most premier football staffs in the football world!

But I would prefer if they searched a bit harder around Payton's house in New Orleans and maybe looked around the Baltimore Raven's complex.

My second best case scenario is that Jim does not want to come but is willing to pull all the attention for Hackett's benefit as he works out an agreement with John Harbaugh.

Sam needs access and giving the thumbs down to the next head coach may shut his door. So my guess is that Sam has heard enough that gives him some comfort to neg Schiano.

The buy-out is a great move. San Fran would have the high probability of getting squat for any NFL trade for Jim and he could walk to Michigan and they are stuck. This way they get something for a coach that their management wants gone.
Speaking of Sean Payton. I see he could be a target. His son is a huge Michigan fan. He just went through a divorce and it sounds like he would consider a fresh start.
I will add him as number three on my list -- behind John and Jim Harbaugh (yes I would take John before Jim -- I think John would look for a long-term home to raise his family, etc).
Either way I want a successful NFL head coach. Something that seperates us (amongst athletes) from Ohio State, Penn State and MSU -- our division rivals.
If Harbaugh is coming to Michigan, why wouldn't he announce ASAP?
First it gets a huge early move on retaining and gaining recruits for a successful kick off to his new job. Second he gets the last stab at some rather dumb SF management.
In fact either Harbaugh could drop the announcement soon. I could see Mattison being retained by John to run the show until he finishes the year or Ravens let him go.

I'll take a "mess" that could be (likely not) coming -- it can't be worse than what I witnessed the last three years.
When Hoke spoke at his first press conference after he was hired about "pro style football", "running downhill" and "road grader offense line recruits". I got very worried. My immediate impression was that Michigan hired a puppet to appease some power brokers in the program.
I like the guy, but I lost plenty of respect for him -- I really think he was more worried about developing a program to meet somebody else's expectations, and not what is really competitive in today's game.
I think some will be shocked if either Harbaugh is our coach. As I think both will be very flexible in their offensive design -- and give a rat's ass to anyone's expectation.
Okay if not Jim, I'll take John in a heartbeat. It will be a Harbaugh!

I may get down voted, but if I had my choice I may select John over Jim.

2. The transition may be smoother with recruits and current players, etc. by possibly keeping Mattison.
3. His demeanor may work better in the long term.
4. He is a competitor, driven and will really want to win the college championship.
Either way -- Either Harbaugh will make for plenty of popcorn time.
Quick -- someone that is good at detail research -- find out if Hackett has any relationship to York. Possibly sold him a nice office desk system on discount a couple years ago??

We had so many let downs this year. So many things that should have never happened in hindsight.
For instance, Funchess should never have worn the 1 jersey. Sorry, even if he comes back that goes into lockdown and earned by a player after or during a "huge" year - not earned on expectation.
Also I'm sorry but I had to listen to the radio broadcast. That is painful. Moving Jim Brandstatter to play-by-play was a big mistake. Like the guy, has been with us for years - but man he is a mess when following a play. Sad thing is Dan Dierdorf is good and should stay.
The one thing I did gleam from Dan's comments was very sad..during the first half Norfleet made a fair catch. Dan pointed out for the season we had something like 26 fair catches and our opposition had like 6. What the hell.
Hopefully we won't have too many attempts at comparing Harbaugh to Hoke. Most of their similarities end when they walk on the field.
One prediction -- clapping will be for truly good plays, not for nice tries.
I'll give you three very close ones -- Harbaugh, Saban and the other Harbaugh. I'll take my chances with either one and I'll be more sure than about any other college team.
