Same here on the taking sides point. Strange, but numerous things are like that for whatever reason.

Freshman year for me. All downhill from there. Good ole days....
|2 days 6 hours ago||Personal preference. Never||
Personal preference. Never had duffs or anchor bar, but lived across the street from spots for 2 years. Smoked every. day and never really craved Spots more than once a week tops (BLASPHEMY!). Ate a ton of quickie burger and btb though. Since moving, I eat the shit out of some BWW and crave them way more than ever did spots for whatever reason.

People rage quit on Crawford assuming he will flip to Ohio. Because that is what all Ohio recruits committed to Michigan do....

A compromise between eating healthy and eating something delicious maybe. Which is the same as all compromises required in eating delicious things pursuant to the inverse healthy/delicious relationship.

Yea the comments here have taken a nose dive last few years. See the state of the blog front page post. Hopefully we can get back to some rational thought soon. I have renewed hope that is possible wit Brian taking a stand. Don't lose faith.

Obviously this comment is a ridiculous overstatement, but remember last weekend when we collectively sold 25-30k tickets to Ohio because people didn't want to go to a game in the state of Michigan?

Very much this. This installment of THE GAME has grave potential to be utterly humiliating for the fan base.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||Maybe I'm not communicating||
Maybe I'm not communicating well but in not sure what more you want explained. I have 3 or 4 posts in this thread about this. My "opposing view" is that removing the best offensive game from the calculation to try to prove how bad the offense is makes the stat misleading because the best game happened and represents over 1/7 of the data points. It is a bad argumentation style that has little value. Thus, if one is trying to prove the offensive is extra bad, taking that game out makes sense if your goal is to fit the stat within your already formed opinion. However, if you merely wanted to look at the facts in order to then make a conclusion about those facts, there is no need to remove the the data points and one would look at the whole season.

Yes. That is exactly what makes sense if your goal is to go from facts to conclusion as opposed to going from conclusion to facts.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Sadly, this is the perfect||
Sadly, this is the perfect lead off reply to a post titled "State of our open threads . . . ." For someone who has been around here since approx 2006 and on his way out, this fact is way more depressing than anything the team could possibly do. Really used to love this pace. Go compare the game recap comments from mlive and here. Mlive comments are much much more reasonable, which, hahaha.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Also interesting...that||
Also interesting...that current YPP number is one spot ahead of MSU. Also, if you remove the MSU game from our season numbers that makes a YPP of 5.469 moving us ahead of northwestern, Minnesota, and Iowa thus giving us the 7th best offense in the big ten
|2 weeks 4 days ago||This more or less is how I||
This more or less is how I feel with a couple exceptions, one being I don't necessarily think fairweather is the proper term and a better term would be delusional/irrational. Don't know about you but I have also been getting texts/calls with these same sorts of comments from people that don't read mgoblog (I don't think anyway). Thus, I think it is more of a state of the fanbase thing than an mgoblog thing, though mgoblog tends to be a gathering point for the most outspoken, pessimistic, whiny contingent of the fanbase nowadays.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||All about perspective. You||
All about perspective. You can say the IU game is worth 9 points [actually it is 7 but whatever that is not important] alone but one could also say the MSU game is worth over 10 points alone as the average is 34.3 with that game removed.
EDIT: Saw OP took out overtime and defensive stats so MSU game will not move the stat 10 points but rather something less than that. Point still stands.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Unsurprisingly, I'm with you||
Unsurprisingly, I'm with you on your point regarding overtime inflating our ppg numbers. I'm not trying to say our offense is good (because obviously) but just wanted to point out the misleading nature of the "if you take out x, y, and z" argumentation style.
[EDIT]: Actually overtime and defensive scores were not included in these stats. From OP "My numbers do not include any yards, points from OT and defensive scores. We have had 7 OT periods and I will not give Hoke and Borges the benefit to use those numbers to boost their god awful offense."
|2 weeks 4 days ago||These sorts of arguments are||
These sorts of arguments are a pet peeve of mine for whatever reason. The Indiana game happened making it is disingenous to present the stats without that game. What are the Big Ten stats with the Indiana game included and the Michigan State game removed? Probably not that bad right? [EDIT: 34.3 ppg by my calculations].
Similarly, I went through the Vikings box scores last year and took out Adrian Peterson's longest run of each game.
Attempts 348 (2nd)
Yards - 2097 (1st by 484 yards)
YPA - 6.0 (2nd)
W/O Longest Run
Attempts - 332 (2nd)
Yards - 1467 (5th)
YPA - 4.419 (19th)
So without these "outlier" long runs it looks like Peterson is only the 19th best running back on a per touch basis. It is disingenuous to imply that though because those long runs happened.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||That was what people thought||
That was what people thought last year too, but you know how that story ended. I certainly hope they can take a step forward. It looked like they took one in the Northwestern game last week but no so much today.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Specifically on your comment||
Specifically in reference to your comment on the schedule next year I have been thinking the same thing. It is difficult to call out a bunch of gimmies when we are probably the dog in every road game on that schedule. Along those lines, I've seen comments around about how Hoke needs 9 or 10 wins + beating rivals or whatever next year to keep his job. If that is the standard, not looking good for Hoke.
Appy State - Do I even have to?
AT Notre Dame - We have seen this team play away games and we have seen Michigan recently lose plenty at Notre Dame specifically. ND will be competitive, at least, and probably favored.
Miami - Can pretty much chalk this up as W. However, see Akron, University of.
Utah - Ask Stanford.
Minnesota - Currently ranked though we beat them handily at home. Beat Nebraska, Northwestern, Indiana, Penn State. We are probably favored by less than 7.
AT Rutgers - Road game struggles. Still could be favored, but how our OL develops will dictate whether we are favored or not and by how much. Pick em or slight dog most likely.
Penn State - See 2013 at Penn State. Also Hackenberg second year.
AT Michigan State - Never truly in the game this year and they will be pretty big favorites.
Indiana - Couldn't stop them and they couldn't stop us. One of those things is more likely to change than the other and you can guess which one. Seems obvious that this is no gimmie.
AT Northwestern - Decimated by injuries this year but looked promising early season. They beat us both of last two years without desperation last drives inluding some luck elements and also seems obvious that this is no gimme.
Maryland - Haven't watched them but they look firmly mediocre. We will probably be favored.
AT Ohio State - Yea
Further, the above is contingent on the submission of the impending shit strom that will come down if we lose a couple early games. We all should know by now the affect that has on the team.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||No doubt when they are||
No doubt when they are juniors and seniors that line sounds promising. Problem is, they have to get there and with with the ridiculous implosion going on within the fanbase it is hard to say we will see all of these guys playing for Michigan as juniors and seniors. If this mindset ever infects the alumni/boosters that matter (i.e., Stephen Ross people of his ilk) and Hoke gets fired, then lookout. We are not getting any upper echelon coach to sign up for this job if the mob runs 2 coaches out of town in either 6 or 7 years unless we are paying a ton, which is not something Michigan has historically done. Even then, we are probably getting a "count my money and then retire" type guy and the accompanying issues with that.
These offensive line issues have been difficult to navigate the last couple years. Does anyone objectively, honestly see the offensive line improving from the one this year getting annihalated every play by taking out a NFL tackle and a servicable though firmly mediocre tackle and replacing them with sophmores?

|4 weeks 9 hours ago||Lower, yes. Much lower,||
Lower, yes. Much lower, unlikely. There are very few surprise onside kicks. The other team is prepared for a very high percentage of onside kicks so doubt it would change the numbers much.
This team's opponents probably get more onside reps in during the lead up week though which may affect the percentage some. But "more reps" is probably 9 or 10 reps instead of 3 or 4.
