that if not for the class of the staff we would know much more about how far the program had fallen. It started with the death of Bo, the fading Carr who had wanted to quit a season before and the naming of a coach who had no natural affinity for the culture and tradition of the program. (I am not a RR fan but he was put in a bad position...a downward slope that he didn't understand.) I don't think many people have a full understanding of what Hoke inherited. A busted culture and a roster recruited for another system along with serious shortcomings for any system.
The detractors say Hoke can't coach but job number one has been to recruit and rebuild a culture. I hope like hell he gets some dividends this year because he's been doing the thankless work quietly without lashing out.

surprised if they don't miss Morgan. It's hard to replace his experience, smarts and leadership on and off the court. It looks like the Double D's are going to be good fits and ultimately bigger offensive contributors than JMo but it's too early to think the Wolverines won't skip a beat. On the other hand, I don't think they will miss Horford. He just wasn't fluid or quick enough to be a plus on the offensive end (at least in a Beilein offense) and he never was the defender JMo was.
What I am anxious to see is who provides the floor leadership. Who is going to be the guy who collects them on defense and offense.
|5 days 7 hours ago||I have always liked||
that most Michigan coaches (since I've followed the Wolverines) didn't try to be the story. Harbaugh is the opposite of that. I don't want a situation where he comes in to save the program. I'd prefer Hoke, like Beilein, has quietly been building a program that will explode. And like Beilein, he won't spit at his critics/doubters like I am sure Harbaugh would.
|6 days 8 hours ago||Anyone who||
follows Beilein knows that the purpose of this trip is practice time and team chemistry. I honestly believe that JB thinks those two things are critically important to success. (One of the things they look for in a recruit is if he's a gym rat.) Contrast that with Izzo who stages slumber parties and calls out his players when he's looking for team chemistry and motivation.

Everything I've read here made think they had done better than that.

is being made. Sitting on the sidelines yelling it's not going to turn out is bad enough but now you're patting yourself on the back too?
|2 weeks 7 hours ago||That team was led||
by some key guys from the tailend of Carr's career. GM is telling you what was missing when he talks about the culture Hoke has built. Carr was running on fumes (he knew, it's why he retired) and Rodriguez never connected to the tradition and identity of the program. The program was in sad shape.
|2 weeks 16 hours ago||Your situational||
radar should tell you that the team he inherited did not have the depth, cultural consistency and talent not to struggle. Hoke and company did just fine their first year with the tail end of a Carr class.

ways to interpret it and you can't find one positive? I don't give a damn who lines up, I am not around practice or off season workouts. I don't know the work habits or commitment of a single OL. I don't know what adjustments the new OC will make beyond building out from competence. Do you think he came here to be a casualty of Funk or Hoke's weaknesses? And seriously, how it's going to play in public? People care about how they play in public not not whose name got mentioned in early August. Lineup 5 DBs for all I care...as long as they can block and execute some semblance of a consistent offense.

let me know. I hope like heck he has a season that shuts all of this kind of stuff down.

greatest physical efforts I've ever seen from a Michigan player. That they couldn't make the last play still haunts.

having guys on the floor who the defense has to account for. The kid doesn't have to be the number 1 or 2 scoring option...he has to keep the defense honest.

Doyle are an inch taller than Morgan and 10 and 5 pounds lighter (respectively). That won't make up for experience but there is some size at least.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||If Michigan saw||
him as a center there was no reason not to red shirt him last season. I don't disagree on Morgan though. I tend to think Michigan will miss him more than any other departure. Who replaces his smarts and veteran leadership?

Burke were both poor defenders. Walton, Irvin and Caris should be the best group of perimeter defenders Michigan has had in some time.

Don't they have enough to keep them busy?

is still in that phase in many ways. And yet they have enjoyed a lot more national attention than State and play in a conference that in recent years has more BB prestige than FB prestige.

people were saying the same thing about Beilein. He kept his head down and continued to build the program he envisioned. Understanding what Beilein did and seeing how Hoke is recruiting and making coaching adjustments, there is no way I'd say no way.
|8 weeks 4 days ago||After watching him||
defy those who said, in his last few games, that he'd be destroyed by his opponent's bigs it's hard to bet against him now. He makes up with smarts what he lacks in athleticism. It would be great to see him get at least a couple of years in the league.
|8 weeks 4 days ago||I don't think||
there has been a Wolverine I've respected more than Jordan Morgan. I will never forget that after the humiliating way his junior season ended, when it seemed he'd lost all his minutes and could have moved on, he decided to come back and do whatever he could to help the team.
In many ways I think he will be the hardest Wolverine to replace.

|9 weeks 16 hours ago||Is there a coach||
ranked above him that's as creative? Beilein has been stereotyped incorrectly, from zone defense to Princeton offense. NO. Beilein is an incredibly creative coach when it comes to assessing his opponent and his own roster's strength. He's also confident enough to know that a 3* kid of character, smarts and passion for the game can be a better get than a higher ranked kid who doesn't grade out well on his full list of qualities.

|9 weeks 1 day ago||I don't think Bacon||
has any idea who the average Michigan season ticket holder even is. Brandon may have helped people take a second and third look at renewals but he didn't start it.
You want to know what started this slide? The Rodriguez era. The bad record, the lack of identity with his style, the busted bowl streak, the NCAA investigation, etc. THAT'S WHEN PEOPLE LOST THEIR CONNECTION. Add higher prices and a bad economy with all of that and you get a spiral.
Since Bacon seems to have some empathy for Rodriquez he seems to miss this component in his rush to keep stabbing Brandon.
