Solomon is a must due to lack of Solomon's the past 2 years.
Gay would be a gilded treasure if we get but not quite as high on the position need list as Solomon.
If we could get those 2 and Martin I'd be content with filling the rest of the class with Wolverine Devotee and his 2 goldfish.

The team has not won a legit road game this entire year. That's probably going to be a minor issue the rest of the way. (Yes some neutral floor wins in there)
First 2 are our house of horrors, NW has a solid team this year, MN is ok at home. So that leaves RUT and NEB as our chances.

The way this is titled I though the spring game was in Rome and was thinking that is going to be a long drive....
|1 day 19 hours ago||Huh?You can go and win a||
You can go and win a game you are not favored in. This year there were very few opportunities as the schedule opened soft, UM was winning big, MSU on the road was down, so OSU was the really only chance to win a game UM was not favored.
Next year? I see @ PSU UM not being favored and very much potentially OSU at home could be a toss up. @ Wisconsin depending on things fall we could be an underdog. So those are 3 opportunities where I'd like to see some Stanford vs USC magic start happening -- this is the year we need to see it. (UM is an early 7.5 favorite vs FL which I find a bit startling based on roster losses but as we all know UM gets a lot of money on them)
OSU is absolutely critical at this point too; as someone else said going 0-3 in your massive rivalry to begin your career, and losing 2 of those 3 opportunities at home and then going into the Shoe in 2018 with all these 5 stars lining up all over the field @ OSU would get some of the natives restless. And it's starting to get stupid how often we lose to OSU - even MSU withs its stupid array of 2 and 3 stars has beaten OSU more often the past decade.

On front page this week Brian said his dad noted LSU OL was rated #1 by PFF and OL development was a huge key to him. Plus that's a lot smaller change in culture from Clemson than UM would be.
I also question why Clemson is letting this guy walk - good OL is a place you usually don't just let prospects walk out the door. Especially in the south where a lot of things you look the other way.

I think missing out on all DT targets not named Dwumfour was a big miss too last year. You'd like your interior linemen if they are not top 50 caliber to get a year to bulk up and improve S&C. So last year's miss on ANY major DT now put this year's interior line under major duress. If you got a top 200 type guy last year he could have sat and gotten bigger, stronger, faster, and been able to be a nice combo with Mone this year and emergency policy if Mone goes down. Now we are relying on a very lightly recruited project guy.
We've addressed DTs in general this year but now you have a major hole in depth chart due to 'crootin 2014/2015 classes in terms of depth there. Like safety it's not a position you really want to stuff freshmen in.
Specific to NT types, if Solomon is not landed your only true NT type in 2 years is Dwumfour. Solomon is simply a must get.
So I'd say DT misses of 2016 class along with inability to get a prime time NT in any class (yet) combine to create a thin margin of injury error. And forcing Gary inside a lot more this year IMO as you can't count on Mone to stay upright and even if you can, you need non true freshman in those spots in the interior.

+1 for beating me to it.
And the whole winning the Big 10. There is a very good chance we are talking year 4 of JH era before we win the conf and even then it's going to be an up for grabs case vs OSU. If someone had told you that when he was hired in our euphoria people would have been mighty disappointed and negged to infinity and beyond for suggesting it would take nearly half a decade.
This is the year JH needs to pull some Stanford year 3-4 shit and pull some upsets over teams we won't be heavy favorites against.

Not that JH needs any more incentive but Franklin at this point has won the Big 10, and beaten OSU. Things JH has yet to do. And PSU is going to be a conf favorite next year as well, while UM is in "retool" mode.
I'm surprised he is not trying to rip every PSU 'croot out of the class and 2018's early commits as well. #JiveTurkey

Why is next year going to be better again?
Irvin and Walton are known commodities - not high end commodities but known. X was going to be "the next Burke" per the msg board a year ago. Now these 2 guys are going to be the next Burke or GR3 as a freshman? What guy has come in and been a legit Big 10 impact player as a treu freshman, since those 2? There are no guarantees on those guys.
With the development of DJ you probably have 2 legit Big 10 starters next year in Mo and DJ. That is down from 4 this year with the 2 seniors departing. You are looking at X and MAAR as your backcourt. Oh yeah, and the freshman "stars" we are bringing in. If 1 of the 2 true freshman hit I'd consider it great, and that would get us up to 3 legit players. And a bunch of meh players around them.
Next year has a great chance to be the same as the ceiling.

That's impressive for Speight considering half the MGoblog has him shining Peters shoes this next year.
How many guys did OSU have on this sort of list last year en route to a playoff appearance? It's time to prove people wrong.
I know we are subject to poop on everything ESPN does but Hurst was a backup; we lost all 11 starters off the defense, our top 2 WRs, 3/5 of the OL, our starting RB and TE. Generally a list like this is going to be about returning starters, not projected backups ascending. (Specific to Hurst he benefited from playing limited downs and being well rested, many DL in the Big 10 played on less stacked lines where they have to play every down - let's see how he handles playing 3 downs and being worn down or being the of an OL beofre annointing him 1st round in the NFL)
Who would you take off the list to calm down the outrage about all this? The only argument I could see is Cole for Brian Allen of MSU. The rest of those guys look really legit to me and proven. Grant was hurt mid Sept and already had 20 receptions, and if put on a legit roster would be a terror on special teams.
Creating fake outrage about everything on the internets is getting old.

Heading has been banned at young ages as of last yr.
As to OP, even being in the opposite conference he was a favorite for sure with great flair. It's amazing to me how some guys in these eras walk away with what seem little damage and are broadcasting or doing other public appearances 30 yrs later and others have such devastating impact.

So in the end if the top 35ish in the country are 5 stars, 36-150 are high 4, 151-300 are low 4, 301-500 high 3s I'd look at it like this:
p.s. I show Drake Johnson in this class, for some reason not listed above in OP.
|4 days 22 hours ago||Yes, re-reading these old||
Yes, re-reading these old posts I remember now how we always waited for the updated height/weight updates each year and Ross spent a few years at nearly exact same weight. I think he added a few lbs his senior year finally.
|4 days 22 hours ago||I enjoy these posts a lot||
I enjoy these posts a lot just as I like to re-look at NFL drafts 3 years after the fact. I actually did 4 diaries on this group re-ranking them over 3 time frames. First very early in their career post 2013, then second in early 2014, then in late 2015 as most were exited or had 1 year to go. That is not the point of THIS specific post (i.e. which rating system did the best) but it's good to see the class as a whole.
I'm rereading these now to see what I missed and hit on. One thing I noticed is you can tell 80% of the time who is going to be good early - very few players sit around for 3 years and then make a big impact later i.e. Mike McCray. Post 2013 I had Richardson in bust territory, Pipkins underwhelming, RJS meh, Willie Henry way ahead of the curve, Funchess looking good, etc.
Fun reading in retrospect but yes that LB class and OL class were supposed to be fucking glorious. I do think Ross played more than you give credit to - I think his 2nd year (??) he played all the time and started and had a ton of tackles, then mysteriously fell off. And a year ago at this time we thought Chesson was headed to All American - that damn injury.
