If Sparty had not beaten Urb and taken OSU out of national title contention, would we still be falling all over ourselves for the Rose Bowl today? I doubt it. It is like this is their reward for defeating Ohio State. If OSU was in the NC game, we wouldn't be so happy for Sparty, I am guessing. Would we congratulate OSU for a similar feat?

Karma, bitch

That's what you get for selling out the Michigan program to the Free Press to start practice gate.

I guess I am thinking

more about the money side of things. The higher ticket prices, PSDs, etc. Some people on this board have said that they can't afford to take their kids to games anymore. That is the next generation, and they simply may not care enough to spend the money, either. Get the money while you can, I say, but at what cost to your current and future fan base?

Agreed

A good product will still carry the day. It is the next generation of fans that I worry about.

Probably right

But there is a breaking point for everything, and they are pushing a pretty thin envelope.

I hear ya

We have had season tickets for more than 20 years, gave two back last year, and aren't going to a single game this year. It is not a protest thing, just that we do, indeed, have better things to do with our kids. I said about 10 years ago, I just hope they make it so the average fan can still attend these games. I think that line has been crossed. More power to the AD if they have marketing research that shows there are 10 people waiting behind me to take my place. I don't feel it.

I could not agree more

I think 2013 will tbe the first season of gaping holes in the crowd. And then people will say, "they aren't Michigan Men," or something stupid like that. The tipping point has been reached. Just watch.

And the OSU investigation

now has its version of Ed Martin locked and loaded and ready to sing. Throw a box of popcorn to the NCAA, too, as we enjoy thtis together.

I love it how

it is always an "incident."

Sums up the next three years perfectly

"Cutting Rodriguez loose right now sets the new guy up to look like 2006 Ron English after he replaced Jim Herrmann and inherited Woodley/Branch/Hall/Harris: a freaking genius. We'd find out during The Horror that he was not, but for a year the guy was untouchable. Hoke is going to get all the rope left over from the Rodriguez era and then some."

Anything that goes right will be Hoke's magic; anything wrong will be Coach Rod's fault. It will be a tie at the end of the Year 3, and I will then make my judgment.

God, I love how MGoBlog

went from a community for discussion and discourse to a place where negative opinions are criticized. I fully support Brian and his right to say what he feels.

We just like our

warm, fuzzy, cookie and milk, dictionary-reading program that we had under Lloyd. And that is what we will have now. For those that say we should fall in line and support the coach, I fully reserve the right to judge after year 3. The same time Coach Rod got.

Umm, the NCAA event is a hearing

then they come back with penalties later in the fall. I am guessing nothing has been decided yet.

2005-2009

Part Coach Rod, part not Coach Rod. Mixed feelings, but this will have A LOT to do with our institution. We are under NCAA scrutiny right now, esp. Coach Rod.

Wow, just imagine ...

... if we had made that 23-point field goal to send the Toldeo game to overtime. Can't miss those.

In the long run, maybe this is best for DD

Yes, he is now behind in finding a new school, but what if he had come here, struggled and then become academically ineligible of flunked out? Then, he might have been banished to the levels of D2 or NAIA. I give him all the credit in the world for busting his ass to try and get here, but if he turns out to be as good as everyone says he will, he will go somewhere else, become and All-American and go to the NFL. Surely, some high-profile DI school will have him.

And, in related news, a junior back-up tight end at Alabama just hurt his back and probably will not be able to play football again.

OK, OK, I retract!

Thanks to everyone for pointing out all of the great successes of most of the teams. Maybe it was just today, but it seems like when we lost this year or bad things happened, they were pretty gut-wrenching. Here's to 2010-11.

I see your point on Zook

But, Coach Rod can coach. Zook is a tool who has made his name as a great recruiter. Now that is a program I wouldn't want to be a fan of this year.

This is spot-on!

If any of you have seen this movie, this is the perfect scene. Great work! I laughed out loud at my desk!

Uh, oh. Here comes the next wave

"Aw crap, now the NCAA is probably going to call me!!" I can see the headlines: "Rodriguez jokes about serious NCAA investigation and sanctions"

With all due respect, what do you want him to say?

"Rich Rodriguez will be our coach for the next two years?" Then, heaven forbid, we go 3-9 or 4-8, or something similar, and I think everyone knows that is probably the end of the line anyway. Then, everyone can go back at DB and day, "but you said he had two more years." Brandon can only go one year at a time, because that is the nature of the business. If he fires Coach Rod after 2010, it will be for obvious reasons (losing record, no bowl, no improvement, etc.), and not because of this investigation and sanctions. That is what he is trying to make clear. That is why I laugh at all the columnists who say, "Well, Brandon said he would be the coach ONLY this fall. Uh, oh."

Good eye!

Wasn't there a discussion about this on the board a few weeks ago? I was surprised how big they were up close. Do you think this is a permanent location?

I am coming around

It is growing on me, but some of the first passes for new gear after the change was made were truly heinous. Some of the stuff at M-Dean still makes me cringe (too many fonts, futuristic-looking lettering, etc.), but I think they do have some nice gear. Looking forward to the new stuff for fall.

Terry Foster

WOW! How clueless can a columnist wannabe really be? That is priceless. How do these clowns get inches in that rag?

I admit to being a little

curious about the follow-up to the NCAA allegations, so I spied it for a few days after that. But, no more.

"My name is

______ and I used to read the Free Press"

For a while

I had all of the SE Michigan media tabbed: News, Freep, Annarbor.com, Mlive, etc. Just for easy looks.

Just throwing out a response

to a few people who wondered if RR would be fired for what happened today, especially with the word MAJOR being lobbed all over the place. No, I do not want him fired, but I don't think they could have done it when all these are is allegations at this point. Down the road, they may have to make a decision if the allegations stand and are booked as major violatons.

Well, not so sure

legally. I had someone ask me, "If you were marooned on a deserted island and could have one person with you, who would it be." I can't remember my answer, but I remember telling my new colleagues, after I was hired, and they all said she could not ask such a question.

I think ...

... these types of questions (the vegetable one) are technically illegal. I think it must be related to the job in question.

Know the employer inside and out

They could very well ask you, "so, what is our mission statement," or "what can you tell us about our sales last year." These are fair game and will show them how serious you are about their company.

Also, ask a lot of questions yourself. You are interviewing them, too.

It's crazy

The four players who have transferred or are "considering their options" are scrubs, while the impact players are all fit to come back. Amazing how that works!

You had me until January 16

Under no circumstances does Charlie Weis leave a ham sandwich.

Yeah, forgot

about one fewer home game this year.

Depends on your location

I think it is a minimum of $125 per ticket on the lowest area and goes up from there.

Similar to the thread throughout this post

Are you willing to pay the PSD for those seats, or just for the tickets?

Math

I don't have the tickets in front of me, but if I am not mistaken, the actual cost of tickets was about $900 last year when you added them up, so $1,000 is not far off. Not sure what it will be this year. It all depends on if you want to pay a little more (the holder's PSD) to have the tickets for a year or two. Is there a price for convenience and knowing you won't have to go looking for individual games? I know some peaople that wouldn't pay it, and some who would pay more.

Perks

Part of the perks are having them when the team is really good again and it will be hard to buy them on the street at face value. Every two years, when the schedule is ND, Penn State and Ohio State at home, those will be hard to get tickets for. The off-year isn't bad either, with MSU and Wisconsin coming in. It all depends on how bad you want to be there and season tickets allow you to sit in the same seats for every game.

About right

A grand is about right for 2. I think they froze prices at $400 for each ticket last year (even though the individual games were higher when totaled up), and my PSD is $125 per ticket. The "all-in" pack for last year was most likely a one-time thing because most of those seats were near aisles. During the next few years, as renovations continue, they will be trimming those seats off the ends of aisles in order to install hand-railings. So, they wanted those seats filled for 2009, but they will literally disapper in coming years.
