"He's a hard worker, and he watched me and Tim (Hardaway Jr.) and Nik (Stauksas) put work in to become (first-round picks), and I'm just happy he's getting better," Burke said. "It's great for the program, too. It shows what type of program the University of Michigan is and the direction it continues to go in."

I don't disagree, that is why I am nervous about the game. I actually follow maryland pretty closely, they were my team until I went to Michigan for college and I'm super pissed that they moved to the big ten because now I don't really get a second team. I think they will surprise a lot of people in both football and basketball this year. I know my siblings are pretty excited for this football season, they know they have a good team and Michigan and penn state are still below were you would expect them to be historically and get msu at home. This is probably one of their better chances at the division.

I'm so scared we are going to lose to Maryland this year. Grew up in Baltimore and both my siblings went to UMD, I'll never hear the end of it if we lose. This must be what its like for most people and MSU.

So glasgow is getting suspended by Hoke for the year right? That's what I would do, anything less than 6 games is a joke.

Does the AP still plan on giving out the crystal ball? cause I want a crystal ball for Michigan.

I worked at zingermans while in college and to this point I can easily say they cared more about me as a part time undergrad than any of my friends or I at real jobs in a variety of fields. Beyond that thought comparing it to maize and blue is just dumb, I lived across from maize and blue and enjoyed it, it is a good sandwich, but if all you are doing when you go to zingermans is eating a sandwich you are doing it wrong. There are cheeses and meats that you can maybe get at one or two other places in the country that you can sample no problems, the people working the stations have spent hours training so they can talk to you with knowledge about these ingredients. They are two different places and shouldn't really be compared.

If the match fixers knew that 4-0 was what was published and didn't change it to a new scoreline than they are pretty dumb.

I think Purdue and Minnesota already have that one on lockdown. I'm here for the negbang, this will be a good long term move for the conference and for michigan, rutgers and maryland will not be any worse than the irrelevant crap currently at the bottom of the big ten and will bring in more money in the long run. It's nice to yearn for the past but it's also filled with rose colored glasses, it probably wasn't as great as you think it was and the future isn't as bad as everyone here says it will be. And don't look now but Maryland has the most recent basketball championship from a big ten team.

Yeah thats scary. Cameroon was at fualt for the second goal because of ball watching, that is pretty much omars biggest weakness.

It depends how you define a gain for consumers. Is paying $60 for five chanels better than paying $90 for 120? What does unbundling really mean? Disney owns a few different channels, do you think they won't package those together? This article sums up my thoughts pretty well http://www.slate.com/articles/business/moneybox/2013/05/mccain_s_la_carte_cable_bill_is_bad_deal_for_consumers.html .
Pretty much it sounds great in theory, and if you live alone or with a group of friends that watch similar shows you can save money. If you have a family where you want to watch sports, one kid wants to watch disney, the other wants to watch nickolodean, a third wants to watch cartoon network and your wife wants to watch bravo (or switch around the wifes role and your role, top chef is great and women like sports too). The point is by the time you get all of these channels you won't actually be saving very much and when march madness rolls around you will miss the all the games on tnt or trutv.

Is identity theft a violation of copyright law then? Your original identity still exists, you are able to use it and have not been deprived of it. Sure its value is lower but if you don't think being able to easily get free copies of things doesn't lower their market value then I don't know what to tell you.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||Ok but my point is that||
Ok but my point is that illegelly streaming or torrenting is theft, not a violation of copyright laws. In many cases laws don't have the specific language to necessarily deal with the realities of digital theft so I guess it is somewhwat subjective but illegally torrenting a season of show is still depriving someone of a sale, it may not be 'physical property' per se but stealing a persons identity is still theft so clearly physical property isn't the defining charecteristic of theft.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||sports is the only reason you||
sports is the only reason you and most people on this blog have cable, that is not a representative sample. According to wikipedia (I know grain of salt, whatever) the top 10 cable providers combine to subscribe over 59 million people (and this number doesn't include dish or direct tv customers, just cable). ESPN was the number 3 cable network, behind the usa network and disney channel at 2.3 million viewers for primetime viewership in 2012. I think ESPN actually dropped to sixth in 2013 with an average of 2.05 million. Monday night football is incredibly popular but even still isn't appreciably bigger than walking dead, duck dynasty, or other big cable shows.
Also people always seems to assume if cable is unbundled streaming sites like netflix and hulu will stay the same price, or amc will continue to stream for free on its website. If these networks lose the funds of basic cable subscriptions everything for online streaming will cost more, you won't be able to stream the walking dead for free anymore. Cable won't just unbundle in a vacume that doens't impact internet streaming services.

The rental box is some shit, I'll give you that. I just don't get the moral loopholes that people must go through to convince themselves that downloading illegally and streaming illegally isn't stealing. The difference between that and taking a dvd off a shelf is just whether you are likely to get caught, not the actual act.

Most economic studies done on unbundled cable show it being more expensive for the average customer and terrible for sports fans, not sure why so many people on this blog think it will be so great.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||I think you overstate the||
I think you overstate the viewership of espn. The number of people who have cable is significantly greater than the number of people who watch sports on espn. If espn was dropped from basic cable and overall cable prices were lowered and espn was a charge I don't think you would lose tons of cable viewers but espn would lose money. I think its in both the best interest of cable companies and espn to keep espn on basic cable for the reasons you mentioned but I think espn would struggle more not on basic cable than basic cable would struggle without espn.
Also to your last point I think the reason abc fights to keep espn on basic cable is because that is necessary to keep espn alive, not to keep cable alive. espn is the leech, not vice versa.

Services like airbnb and uber are certainly numbered, those loopholes that allow them to exist without fees and regulations are going to get closed fast if the court even rules that they exist.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||What makes you say that?||
What makes you say that? Currently espn gets money from every cable subscriber in the country despite only a tiny portion of those subscribers watching sports on that network, the nfl is on network tv. If espn is seperated from that they would have to charge incredibly high rates just to break even with future contracts to the people who do watch sports. They might be able to get away with it but it would most likely be terrible for people who want to watch the sports that do get shown on espn frequently.
|4 weeks 21 hours ago||Listen I get that it means||
Listen I get that it means more to you, and to mgoblog people. Mgoblog isn't a representative sample of the Michigan fanbase. I get caught up in womens softball every year because michigan plays, I also don't watch a game other than Michigan, this isn't normal. Most fans who show up to football games don't watch the softball team partly because they are not as invested in Michigan. Dave Brandons job isn't to make mgoblog happy, its to run a successful athletic department and make sure that there is continued success for football and success for football means wins, if we win people show up, it really is that simple. Paying for nussmeir and mattison is expensive, the assistant coach salaries are higher than they have ever been, facilities cost more than they ever have and Michigan is actively avoiding thousands of dollars in revenue by not playing ads, Brandon is going to make that up somewhere, just like every other perosn running the AD ever would.
|4 weeks 1 day ago||Give me a break. Michigan is||
Give me a break. Michigan is Michigan because of 110k people at games and a winning history, not because we don't play ads at a game. If Michigan had a 40k person stadium and a history of being average the last 6 years would have led to a half empty stadium even if all you ever heard was the band, the crowd and the pa announcer. 90% of fans don't care if there are ads, that's why good teams sell out and bad ones don't. Michigan has a long enough history of success to survive a decade of average, but winning teams have good fans, it's really that simple and Michigan is no different from that. Just look how many people suddenly care about basketball again.
|4 weeks 1 day ago||You can both say that bradley||
You can both say that bradley is incredibly important to the team, acknowledge that US plays its best when he plays well and still say he has been bad at the world cup so far. We obviously can't bench him but the rest of our midfield has picked up the slack of Bradley playing poorly to this point. He played better yesterday than he did against Ghana but he still didn't play well and that turnover wasn't just another turnover in a game. His decision making would be like a team trying to run out the clock and the running back only putting one arm on the ball as he goes through the line. It was just dumb.
I also disagree with Brians optimism. Yeah 4 points is where we wanted to be but Portugal look done. Ronaldo is clearly not at 100% and they didn't even celebrate the goal yesterday that saved their world cup. I don't see a situation where Ghana doesn't score at least 2 on that defense. That means we have to tie germany or we are at. I think there is like a 30% we go through, if Ghana scores first its like a 15% chance.
|4 weeks 1 day ago||Yeah it was perfect cross and||
Yeah it was perfect cross and really good finish. Plus Cameron got caught ball watching and didn't mark his man. But when there is 30 seconds to go you don't take a touch with a man on, you kick it towards the corner. None of those things happen if Bradley does what you are supposed to do. This on top of trying to cross the ball in stoppage time of the Ghana game just shows a worrying lack of awareness from Bradley. He may make great passes but it doesn't seem like he understands situational soccer that well. If the same situation happens to Jones I bet he goes in for a hard tack on eder, takes the yellow and moves on, Bradley got picked and then jogged back.
|4 weeks 1 day ago||That goal was 100% on||
That goal was 100% on bradley, there is no reason to driblle the ball in that situation and its the second game in a row he has been dumb in a late game situation. That goal was crushing. Anyone who doesn't think that ghana is winning that game by multiple goals hasn't been watching the world cup. Portugals defense has been horrendous the entire tournament and ghana has looked incredible attacking. Most likely scenario in my opinion is a germany 2-0 win and a ghana 2-1 or 3-1 win, either way I see our chances of advancing at about 40%. That goal is going to haunt me for four years.
Also this is like being up 3 in the ncaa tourney with a chance to go to the sweet sixteen when the other team hits a half court buzzer beater. But instead of having 5 minutes to dwell we now get 3 days to think about what could have been. And instead of playing like the 4 seed in overtime we now to get play an all-american team. Fuck.

Hopefully this results in sellouts and convinces brandon the same thing for football is good. This is honestly the first I have ever heard of a sports team dropping prices so I think Brandon deserves some credit.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||This is such crap. That 11-2||
This is such crap. That 11-2 was more fluke and easy schedule than a true turning of the corner and we all know it. Rich rod hadn't recruited a cohesive team, he had lost the defense and beat like 6 teams that finished with a winning record while here. Maybe Hoke won't be a great coach either but that 11-2 year is not indicative of things turning around, the talent level matches more what has happened the two years, an about average team that is a few bounces between 8 wins and 6 wins.

|5 weeks 6 days ago||Well sure the United States||
Well sure the United States can't make other countries conform to our laws but that doesn't make our laws bad. A person can't survive on $5 an hour in the United states over the long term, whether or not a person in se Asia can survivor on $2 an hour is irrelevant to that fact. Even though you take your 5,000 jobs to se asia, the thousands of people who work in the US at minimum wage still benefit from that law and it is on overall larger benefit than the loss of your business. If every person currently working minimum wage was dropped to $5/hour so that you stayed in the US it would be an overall negative impact (I guess in my opinion). The role of government in this case is to work as a counter agent to companies who are driven by profit to ensure a basic standard of living. You can disagree with that being governments role but then all sorts of regualtions would be thrown out, like workplace safety laws.

Thats all fine until the university starts selling their jersey and they don't get any additional benefits. If a person at a big agency writes a good script they get paid for it, and they can go outside the agency to get paid if they need to. If a college football player excites a fanbase and sells jerseys and tickets they get no additional money and there is nowhere for them to go and still pursue football.
