Yeah but the big ten sucks at softball, any loss we pick up now puts more pressure on needing to be perfect to host a super regional. Unless we finish the non-conference part of the schedule with under like 4 losses we are looking at a situation where 3-4 losses in big ten play could easily knock us out of a super regional host spot. That is a really small margin for error.

I understand the difference between correlation and causality but just saying that doesn't make it not true. Pretty much everyone who studies these things agrees that an increase in the availability of student loans led to an increase in college tuition because it led to more money being available and higher demand. You can certainly argue that benefits outweigh the negatives as more minorities and low income students are able to get college degrees which yes are a huge need in todays economy though aren't super helpful if you are defaulting on loans 2 years out. However the fact that you can raise prices because of increased demand does not excuse the fact that Michigan more than tripled its administrative staff and costs while raising tuition and has recently spent billions on renovating building that didn't need it. I lived in south quad for 2 years in 09-10 and 10-11, it didn't need to be renovated but they spent the money to do it because of the facilities rate race.
|18 hours 18 min ago||You'd think wrong, there is a||
You'd think wrong, there is a direct correlation between the increase in loan avaialability and increase in prices. Most middle class to upper middle class families are still taking out loans if its 50k a year for tuition. Loans became readily available in the 80's and there was a huge spike in prices in the late 80's and early 90's. Loans also allowed many more people to go to college period, driving up demand and the increased perception that college is necessary has led people to paying whatever is necessary to get a degree. Colleges took advantage of this mindset to jack prices.
|21 hours 19 min ago||I don't think that's the||
I don't think that's the case. College costs exploded when student loans became readily available. Schools don't care if you default on your loan 10 years later they already got the money. Administrative costs have surged and there is now a huge arms race for having crazy nice buildings. There is no need for south quads dining hall to look like it does and that is true across the county.

Significantly less than 50% of community college kids wind up graduating from accredited 4 year schools. It's really easy to never make it out and is a really risky road. Also the connections you build in college can be crucial for future networking and thus earning potential, especially for kids who grow up in situations where they don't already have that network. Community college is a dangerous game to play. I'd do a lot of research and make sure you have a really motivated kid. All it takes is one bad grad at a cc to ruin your future.

Out of state to Michigan probably isn't a great financial choice but getting a college degree isn't just about increasing potential revenue. It's about doing something you want to do. Most jobs most people want to be in require higher ed degrees now. For every one bill gates there is a million people who dropped out to work and get stuck in dead end jobs with no happy future. I want to work in non profits, that means probably max 75k salary if I'm high up at a large non profit and I probably will need a graduate degree too. It's about opportunity also.

I think the big ten is going to be rough for this team for a long time. Hopkins and Maryland are just have too many horses and Michigan just doesn't have the talent or discipline to run with that. Penn state and OSU also have more advanced programs with better coaches and players. You are looking at probably max 2 more wins this year and that probably involves an upset and I don't see that changing in the near future. Freshman can have a big impact on lacrosse especially at middie or attacker, Maryland's best player last year was a freshman.

Its called talking to people. We joked about the class a couple times. I know its hard to believe that michigan players actually talk to people sometimes but it happens.
|2 days 5 hours ago||I gave a couple specifics but||
I gave a couple specifics but ok they get recruits into bars where they get free drinks is at least one I was there when it happened. Is that actually a bad thing? No. But the coaches know it happens and it's still a recruiting violation.
|2 days 5 hours ago||Also tried to edit to remove||
Also tried to edit to remove name but had been responded too, mods feel free to delete this post, people can believe me or not but bringing up specific players was dumb on my part. Half these rules aren't even done by the AD, the list is just passed around by students and the AD just doesn't step into stop it
|2 days 5 hours ago||All this is from players.||
All this is from players. Devin Gardner had a credit card he was told nobody would check receipts on, he got my friend a dress with it. I saw the list of classes. I was in a class with Taylor Lewan and Chris brown from the hockey team, blue book final, Lewan came in, brown handed him a blue book he sat there without writing a word for 15 minutes turned it in and left. I was in a class with trey Burke first semester of the year he left, he slept through class everytime he showed up, it was a 30 person class with participation being 30% of the grade and he got an A. We cheat, so does everyone.
|2 days 6 hours ago||They contact recruits when||
They contact recruits when they shouldn't callore than they should, allow current players to do things with recruits on visits that aren't ok. It's petty stuff that every program does but we do it too. And lol at the guy who said provide proof.
|2 days 6 hours ago||Also lol at the people who||
Also lol at the people who don't think we cheat regularly. It might not be to the extent of some places but Michigan violates recruiting rules all the time, has payed players, the athletes all circulate a list of easy A classes and tutors do their homework for them on the reg. it is what is but we cheat every day too.
|2 days 6 hours ago||Tonight wasn't about talent.||
Tonight wasn't about talent. We have more talent than northwestern on the floor, or should at least. Tonight was all Michigan choking. Another long scoring drought, another night of failing being able to inbound the ball. Another coaching blunder by beilein to not foul when up 3 twice. We had no business losing this game. It wasn't on injuries, it was choking and bad coaching. Northwestern had 2 true freshman playing major minutes too. This team is a dissapointment, even with injuries included and has probably been Beileins worst year of coaching at Michigan.
|2 days 6 hours ago||I only saw part of the game||
I only saw part of the game but just a couple observations.
The defense was bad, slow rotations, easy ground balls, and worst of all terrible d play from the midfield. Any team with a quick attacking middie is going to carve this team up like notre dame did. Jacksonvilles guy weren't even that good or quick.
The more worrying thing when judging the coaching rather than talent was the complete lack of movement on offense, just nothing going on, that's not a great sign.
|2 days 17 hours ago||I'd be shocked if given 10||
I'd be shocked if given 10 half court shots a professional player would hit one even half the time. I remember in high school somedays we would 'practice' half court shots as a break. 6 guys on that team played d1 basketball and two are in the nba and not one of them was hitting at 1 in 10 rate and that is with no pressure.
|2 days 18 hours ago||Its not about who was better||
Its not about who was better in college though. When Maryland won the national championship they had 3 guys go pro, wilcox, juan dixon, and steve blake. Of those 3 blake was the least highly touted and least prolific. Blake is still in the NBA, Dixon lasted 6 years before going to europe and now coaches at maryland and wilcox had a solid but unspectacular career that is now over.
|2 days 19 hours ago||He really probably should go||
He really probably should go if he gets a first round pick. If he comes back next year and has a bad year or is injured again he is gauranteed to fall out of the first round, that is a lot of risk and pressure when you can take the first round this year.
|2 days 19 hours ago||GRIII is on an NBA roster||
GRIII is on an NBA roster making more money than most of us ever will. He didn't make a huge leap between years while here and didn't believe Beileins system suited his game to raise his stock profile. He believed in his ability to make a roster even without a gauranteed contract and he was right. GRIII made the right call for him.

No way you are 10% chance to hit a half court shot in 10 tries.
|2 days 20 hours ago||Its not that shocking to||
Its not that shocking to anyone who pays attention to K. He does what he has to to win and look good. This is the same coached who managed to get duke to start giving his basketball players bullshit 2-3 year degrees so he could preach about graduation rates.
|3 days 14 hours ago||His quotes over the last two||
His quotes over the last two weeks actually paint a pretty clear picture. His two favorites are USC and Stanford, its been really tough flipping back and forth between them but he thinks he is almost there. Harbaugh has also been pushing for him to go out to Michigan and he likes Michigan so he is going to try to make it but its not a priority and they are clearly not in the top two.
|3 days 16 hours ago||Not suprised by Costello. I||
Not suprised by Costello. I was confused that people thought the quote from last week meant Michigan was the favorite since he pretty much said Stanford was the favorite with USC making a push.
|3 days 19 hours ago||The idea is also to try to||
The idea is also to try to crown a champion in an era of unbalanced schedules. Let's say for arguments sake Wisconsin finished 1 game behind maryland for the big ten title but played a harder league schedule because of 1 offs and only got to play at Maryland. Well they can make the finals of the btt and prove the reasons they lost was because it was a road game. Every team doesn't play the same schedule, giving teams a chance to play it out on the court in a neutral site is a way to try to balance that out.
|3 days 19 hours ago||We built a a lead but then||
We built a a lead but then lost it all. We still went into the half losing. We had an 11 point lead, Beilein should have put Burke back in to stop their run to take the lead back, the momentum swing from them erasing an 11 point lead in the last 4 minutes of the half was probably the reason we lost.
|4 days 13 hours ago||It's also distinctly possible||
It's also distinctly possible his policy caused us to lose the national championship game. This isn't a one game situation, it's a policy he refuses to budge from that has cost his teams many games.
Beilein is great and is developing this team well but it hasn't been his best coaching job. This team lost to njit and emu at home even with a healthy team. The insistence on the 1-3-1 and inbounds plays cost us the Illinois game and the two foul policy has let up huge runs against msu Indiana and now Maryland
|1 week 15 hours ago||I'm happy teske is looking||
I'm happy teske is looking good but this team could really use an athletic freak who blocks a ton of shots. The 5 doesn't play a big offensive role for beilein. It's pick and pop or rolls mostly, no real feeding the post. That means his defensive presence is going to be important. Especially when guys like duncan Robinson, good shooters poor lateral quickness needed for d, are on the perimeter.
You can get away with slower/poor defensive gaurd play if you have an eraser at the 5.

Actually most rapists never even get charged because it is probably the hardest offense to prove in a court of law but yeah. Also how does forced impriosonment only carry a $750 fine?
|1 week 2 days ago||No I mean Jake Layman. The||
No I mean Jake Layman. The 6-8 guy who shoots 50% from 2 and 40% from 3 and average s 6.6 rebounds a game while also adding over an assist a game. The one who put up 23 points the last time he faced off againt brandon dawson. Who is going to guard hiim? He has 2 inches and more lateral quickness than Irvin. Not to mention we will have to put Spike on melo trimble, probably the third best guy at getting into the lane in the big ten because there is no way he could deal with the physicality of dez wells. Our only hope is to play a crazy packed in zone and pray they don't hit their 3's.
|1 week 2 days ago||We would have 16 wins, d 2||
We would have 16 wins, d 2 teams don't count. If we win out we might have a chance at an at large if we make it to the championship game with a win over wisconsin on the way but even that would be sweating it out.
